Lynxpaw shook his head. "Don't worry about it," he meowed. "I haven't been hanging out too much with other apprentices, either, besides my brother and sister."
Skyflower looked up at Cloudfoot. "No, he didn't hurt me! A rogue attacked him on our territory, so I decided to bring him back to camp so Slitherfoot could help!"

Gingerkit pulled away from her mother, her head tipped in confusion as she bounded to the weird-smelling cat. She sniffed him warily, sensing that he was hurt badly. “Well?” She asked, her innocent blue eyes wide. “Aren’t we going to help him?” She stared expectantly at her father and mother. “I mean, Auntie Skyflower likes him, I think, and even though he smells bad, he seems okay.” She shrugged. Fernblossom had the hysterical urge to laugh. Here was her daughter, so innocent and bold, defending someone she didn’t even know. Kits didn’t know clan from rogue. Border from border. The calico beamed with pride, appraising her daughter with a encouraging look. “We should help him. If only for Skyflower,” Fernblossom spoke up, giving her sister-in-law a steady look. If Skyflower loved this cat, she would support her. The calico knew herself tat she couldn’t live without Emberstar; if Skyflower felt that way about this tom, who was Fernblossom to judge?

"I've done about all I can right now. I've stopped his bleeding, now he just needs some rest." Slitherfoot meowed soothingly to Skyflower, noticing the she-cat's affection for the rogue. She took in a small, indignant sniff. "I will be watching him to make sure he continues to breathe just fine. If I may ask..." She looked away for a moment, "What do you know about this tom?"

Emberstar gave his mate and his daughter approving looks. "I'm glad you two agree with me," he meowed. He looked at his sister and the rogue. "I don't know what's going on between the two of you," he meowed to Skyflower, "but I won't ask while he is injured like this. We will have to talk about this, of course, but that can wait for later. For now, he is welcome to stay in our camp to receive treatment from Slitherfoot and Mosspaw. He is no threat to us in this state." He glanced down at the rogue, then at his sister again.

Skyflower looked at her brother gratefully, before turning to Slitherfoot. "His name is Rush," she meowed. "I... I was near the border when I heard fighting. There was a rogue she-cat attacking him viciously. When she saw me, she ran off, and I knew that I couldn't just leave him to die..."

"No, he didn't hurt me! A rogue attacked him on our territory, so I decided to bring him back to camp so Slitherfoot could help!" "Well, we can hang out more. I've got plenty of room to share my time." Rustlepaw offered bravely, avoiding a large tree root but purposefully flopping into the snow. "I lied! Snow's pretty cool!"

"I would like that," Lynxpaw murmured. He laughed when she landed in the snow, and chuckled even more at the 'cool' pun.

Slitherfoot nodded, looking back to Rush's wounds. Rogues... "Viciously is certainly a good word for it." She meowed.

"Alright. Well, I think we should head back. It's getting even colder, so I assume the sun is beginning to lower into night." Rustlepaw shook her fur, brushing past Lynxpaw as she walked back, muzzle searching for her Thrush. "Help me find the bird?"

Lynxpaw sighed sadly. "You're right." He flicked his tail and led the way back to where they had buried the thrush. He dug it up and dropped it at her paws. "There's your thrush," he meowed to her. He hesitated for a moment, before adding, "I really enjoyed spending time with you today. Maybe... Maybe we can do it again sometime?"

Rustlepaw smiled, scampering up to the Thrush. Before she picked it up, she felt that bubbling warmth and purred faintly. "Yeah. Yes, that sounds great, we can hang out again."

Rustlepaw carried her prey, slowly leading back to camp. She tipped her head at the sounds coming from camp, and the strong scent of blood...that she didn't recognize. She looked back at Lynxpaw.
Sootflame glared at the medicine den, the elder angered that they were allowing the rouge refuge here. He grit his teeth, wishing he could vent his anger to Sunstar like he used to.

Lynxpaw's eyes widened when he heard the commotion from camp. "Let's go see what's going on," he meowed, racing toward the camp entrance.
Emberstar leaped up onto the Highrock. "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey join here beneath the Highrock for a Clan meeting!" He yowled, deciding he should tell his Clan exactly what was happening with the rogue, and what he had decided.

Rustlepaw followed quickly, locating the prey pile and dropping the Thrush right as Emberstar called for a clan meeting.
Sootflame stood tensely, his good eye narrowed as he hobbled towards the rock, scowling up at Sunstar's son.
Yewberry flicked his ears with unsure anxiousness. He didn't want dangerous rouges but the tom had looked pretty beat up!

Lynxpaw dropped his squirrel on the fresh-kill pile then padded over to sit next to Rustlepaw.
Emberstar watched his Clan gather. Once they were all seated around the Highrock, he began. "I know that many of you are already aware of the rogue that Skyflower brought into camp earlier today. This rogue, Rush, was attacked by another rogue on SunClan territory. Skyflower witnessed this attack and chased off the attacking rogue. Rush was severely injured during the attack, and Skyflower believed it was best to bring him back to be treated. She couldn't leave him to bleed to death on our territory." He paused and gazed around at his Clanmates. "I have decided that Rush may stay here to recover from his injuries. His stay here is not permanent. Just long enough for him to recover enough from his injuries. While he is here, he will stay in the medicine den. The apprentices will be in charge of bringing him food every day, making sure he has fresh bedding, and clearing his dirt, and a warrior will be on guard at all times. I understand that many of you are wary about this rogue in our camp, and I share your fears. However, I also agree with Skyflower that she couldn't have just left him to die. She did the right thing." He paused for a moment. "Snaketail, you will be on guard outside the medicine den until moonhigh, and then Newtleap will take over. Rush is not to leave the medicine den."

Sootflame gave a light growl, calling up with a voice ripe with age and the strong fire he never lost. "Cats are right to be against it. The only good he'll cause us is trouble. Who's to say that rouge he was fighting won't come back? With other rouges too? Attack the young apprentices and lone warriors right in the territory?" He asked sharply.
"As admirable as her sympathy and compassion may be, is it worth helping him when we're already stifled with rouges right on our pawsteps? It's already bad enough I can't fight them like I used to, now I have to see them ushered into our home." He hissed.
Yewberry gazed at his grandfather with wide eyes, both agreeing and being a bit unsure about it.
Rustlepaw bristled in surprise, they had let a rouge in?

Emberstar glared at the elder. "Sootflame, you know I respect your opinion greatly. However, I think you are wrong about this. Rush is no threat to us when he is so badly injured. The other rogues could come into our territory, anyway, whether Rush is here or not. They know that we live here, and they know where our camp is already. Helping Rush is not going to change that, for better or worse." He paused for a moment. "We don't know that he is a member of the group of rogues that have been hunting us like prey. For all we know, he may be a victim of those rogues, just as much as we are. He may want to help us with our problem. And, even if he is a member of that rogue group, he will owe us for helping him. He may give us information in exchange for our help."

( Moonblazer ) Skunkstripe purred softly under the praise. She had thought her contribution to the catch had been rather clumsy, but she was glad be complimented by the she-cat. Skunkstripe wasn't exactly a senior warrior. "I'll bury this near the bramble," she meowed, carrying the limp shrew back to the berry bush. "and maybe we can catch more."

"Hah. Help us with our problem? I'll believe that when kits fly. I've got no choice I suppose, seeing as I respect your rank as leader and will follow the code, but don't think for a second that I will trust this tom. I've lost enough to rouges, my old friends and part of my family, so I hope to Starclan you don't end up regretting this." Sootflame grumbled angrily.
"And if, during this recovery, that rouge lays a single claw, puts a single hair out of place while my son guards his sorry hide, then the rouge that clawed his pelt will be the least of his worries. I can promise you that." He spat.
Leafblaze nodded in agreement to Skunkstripe, mewing smoothly. "We could try and look for some hibernating prey. Buried in their holes, we can paw them out."

Slitherfoot listened from the medicine den, only occasionally taking her eyes off of the rise and fall of Rush's breathing as she overheard the discussion between Emberstar and Sootflame.
Mushroompaw listened actively from his place toward the back of the gathered clan. He was trying to decided what his opinions on for the matter were, but he simply found himself agreeing with Emberstar.

Skunkstripe nodded, agreeing with the ginger she. "We can look near the bottom of trees, I've seen some small burrows around them on my recent patrols." Skunkstripe didn't often hunt prey out of their hiding spots underground. It didn't sound too hard, and she had done it a few times before.

Leafblaze gave another hum of approval, mewing to the other she-cat. "Sounds good. I tend to find pretty good prey when I dig in their burrows. Especially squirrels." She turned to set her nose to work, searching for scents.

Skunkstripe nodded to her partner, before whipping her black head around to gaze upon her surroundings. She obviously wasn't going to tell Leafblaze she wasn't very skilled at this type of hunting, but she would try her best anyway. It was always good to practice, especially before the prey got really scarce. Her jaw parted and she let the taste of the forest flood her senses.

Wolfpaw sat close to Sootflame, fur bristling. He wanted so badly to speak out in retort alongside the tom, but he knew barking at the leader would only end in trouble. He glanced at Rush laying beside Slitherfoot, eyes narrowed.
Rush's body lay motionless at Slitherfoot's paws, flank rising and falling very shallow. His cream body was stained with old dried blood, cobwebs strewn about him.

Leafblaze searched for a while, before finally she could make out a scent of mouse down a small hole. Narrowing her eyes, she began digging quickly, hoping to drive the mouse out so either she or Skunkstripe could catch it.

Moonfall sat nervously in the crowd, looking at Emberstar obediently. As a former kittypet, she knew how it felt to be an outsider in Sunclan. She glanced at Rush; the she-cat could only hope this tom meant no harm to their clan.
Dawnpaw listened wide-eyed to Emberstar, deadly curious to meet this new tom. She was an avid optimist, and wanted to believe this rogue had good intentions.
Pebblefrost's fur was on end, feeling afraid of letting a rogue into the clan with all the chaos they've caused to Sunclan. He wasn't ready to trust ANOTHER outsider again; not after all that the clan's been through...
