plot ;; The Kingdom of Elaeis was not a peaceful one. It stood at war with its neighboring kingdom, Itezi, for hundreds of years. Neither wished to back down; they simply tore at each-other as much as they could. Many, many people died - towns and villages were burned, crops were sabotaged. Eventually, Itezi triumphed over Elaeis - the Royal Family were forced to flee and hide. The King of Elaeis remained behind, for he wished to serve as a distraction so that his pregnant wife could flee.
It is here that our story begins.
Muse A was raised in a humble town at the base of the largest mountain in Elaeis, hearing only stories of political conflict in the cities. They are aware of the fall of Elaeis and of the fact that the Royal Family in Itezi are the rules, but they know nothing more. They have worked on a farm and they've helped their family for as long as they can remember. They know they're adopted, and it is fine, because their family is kind and warm, the only people they know. The entire town is unaware that they are home to the last standing member of the Elaeis Royal Family, unaware that they are keeping safe such a person of importance. Muse A is the true heir to the throne and the only person who will ever be able to take it back, but they are just as clueless as their home is.
It is only when Muse B arrives in town that things start to unravel. Muse B is a member of the Royal Guard; the recently appointed Captain, young in age, but talented. They are unhappy with how Itezi treats the people of Elaeis, and they find it unfair that the once beautiful land is now poor and quiet, fearful of what happens if they step out of line. A revolution cannot happen like this. There are very few clues as to where the last remaining royal has gone; it is only through discovering a secret left by the late Queen, revealing where she, herself, was born, and where she wished for her child to be born. It is such a luck occurrence that Muse B dives on the chance, and leaves the castle to find the heir. They tell Muse A about what they are; that they're the heir to the throne of Elaeis, that they need to be present for Itezi to leave their land. Whether or not Muse A will believe them and follow through with the quest, however, remains to be seen.
characters ;;
muse a ; heir of elaeis Cedric Raine ; 22yrs courageous, determined, intelligent. Standing at an impressive 6’1, he is well built and muscular. He has tanned skin, but still relatively pale compared to his family. He has several scars on his hands and arms from dealing with sharp tools on the farm, and he has a birthmark on his abdomen of a light brown spot, just to the side of his navel. He has naturally wavy, golden blond hair that’s somewhat lengthy with short hair on the sides of his head. His eyes are large and almond shaped, and they’re the color of the ocean. He sometimes sports a short beard if he opts not to shave as often. He’s relatively skilled in dealing with smaller knives, considering that’s the experience he’s had, working on a farm. He’s also very good with animals and has a deep medical knowledge of different animal anatomies. He has a relatively deep, but quiet voice, but it doesn’t fail to receive attention.muse b ; captain of the royal guard Robin Bellerose ; 24yrs cunning. observant. stubborn. Though he stands at a completely unimposing 5' even, he's lean-muscled and knows how to handle himself. His skin is a light shade of brown, with a small mole dotting underneath his right eye, and he has some rather nasty-looking scars over his arms and torso. His tousled, wavy hair is black in colour, styled in something like an undercut to keep it neat-ish, and he has light green eyes. He's skilled in archery moreso than swordplay, but finds himself staying even in both. Robin has a very soft voice, but it tends to be noticed nonetheless.
more info ;; - this is in a medieval setting, though whether there's fantasy or not is up to you? i'm fine with or without, each has their own path and so on. the main idea of this is for the heir to learn about their heritage, etc, and be 'trained' to be able to get to the throne? yyeah!! i'm down for sideplots alongside the main plot, and i love talking plot ideas & character interactions. side characters are definitely fun, too. - i'd like this to be fairly advanced with multi-para responses (length depends on muse tbh) and i'd really like someone who's willing to stay active.

The little piece of parchment in his hand was all he had to go by - it was precious, aged and curling. He would not have realised that the numbers were coordinates had it not been for the fact that it had been hidden with a small map. It was these two items that he had left the Capital with, alongside essentials for himself. To his guards, he'd explained that he needed to leave for a while. They did not question him, for they knew that Captain Bellerose was prone to a need to explore the world, and it was so peaceful nowadays - considering Itezi owned both Elaeis alongside its own kingdom, there was no need for war. The Royal Guard only remained so as to keep the castle protected, but it was often uninhabited by anyone but the Guard and the servants. It was quiet, unfair, and they were the only people keeping the castle in good condition.
Most of the Guard were quiet supporters of a rebellion; the older men and women were from the late King's reign, they spread hope and encouragement to the younger members. When Robin had been appointed Captain, he'd carried those beliefs firmly within him, keeping it quiet so as not to raise suspicion in the King of Itezi (who only visited occasionally), but ensuring that the right people knew. They did; he was young for a Captain, but had been raised into this life. He was trying his hardest, and that was what mattered, in his opinion.
Even then - going on one of his own missions after being appointed Captain was a risky move. It was entirely possible that he could lose the trust of his guards, but he had to trust that they would be safe and in the right hands.
Elaeis had once been a beautiful, rich country; it was still beautiful, but it was poorer than it had been. The roads were worn and breaking, and his horse did not particularly enjoy them. After some time, he'd decided that taking the forest route would be easier on both himself and on Titus; the horse was stubborn and short-tempered at the best of times, but he grew even more so when forced to do something he didn't want to do. There was a notable change in pace when he switched to the forest, too; Titus went at a swifter pace, was more calm and did not disobey as much. It was a relief.
The forest proved to be safer to stop in, too. He could find shelter and he was not at risk of being found by the Itezi army. They often wandered the well-used roads, ensuring that nobody was going to cause trouble. Robin had realised rather quickly that he did not want to deal with that - if news got back to the King that he was alone, far from the Capital, then he would likely be in trouble. He did not want this mission to end in failure, for it was so important to both him and the people of Elaeis. If he failed now, he wasn't sure if he would ever have the power to try again.
Robin glanced over the map for what felt like the umpteenth time - and then compared his location on the map to the coordinates that the Queen had left. According to both of them, he was almost upon the town. He knew, vaguely, that it was a mountain town - obscure and uninterrupted by the changes around it. It was so remote that even the King of Itezi did not bother going there. He wasn't sure if that was lucky or not. He reached down to pat Titus' neck, and the horse snorted and shook his head, turning to glance at his rider.
"I know," he breathed softly, "once we're there, you can have proper rest. Then...then, I don't know," he shook his head gently and lowered his head, half-closing his head. "I just don't know."
This was...it was unfamiliar but also unsafe - Robin was confident in his ability to find the heir, but he was not sure if he could convince them, or even...train them? Would he have to do that? Some children in towns learned how to fight, and though it was unrefined, he knew that it could beat well-trained knights and soldiers if practiced for long enough. However, this town would be unfamiliar to him, and he did not know if they had the same idea of training their children. If they did not expect to get attacked (and in such a remote location, he doubted they did), then why would they bother? It was easier to work the farms and tend to animals and the like. Robin was confident in his ability to teach trainees in the Guard, but not so much in his ability to teach someone of royalty. Sure, they wouldn't know what they were, but it was still intimidating.
He glanced up at the sky - it looked like the sun had only just risen, and he could see the town through the branches of the trees. The town would be waking up around now, and that was..a relief, almost. It meant that he could talk to people to get help. He nodded to himself and adjusted his traveling cloak, tapped Titus' sides for him to go faster. The horse broke into a quick trot.
They reached the town, and Robin found himself somewhat amazed. It wasn't a small town, it was more...medium, and it seemed to hold a rather calm, caring atmosphere. It was different from the towns ravaged by war, it was strange compared to his hometown. He took a moment to look around at the early morning bustle, before shaking his head and dismounting from Titus, taking hold of the horse's reins and leading him quietly. After so much riding, he found himself with a slight limp - but he ignored it in favour of looking around. Now he had to...connect dots, be logical, he supposed. Find someone who looked like they had been around for a long time.
"Lost?" came a croaky voice. Robin jumped and whipped around to see an old woman standing there, a small smile on her face and both eyebrows raised. He didn't miss how sharp her gaze was.
"I'm where I need to be, but I am looking for someone in particular," he stated cautiously. This seemed to get the woman's attention.
"You're from the Capital; who could you possibly need?" she asked. He was uncomfortable with how she leaned forward to pay more attention to him, but he decided not to let that get to him.
"Twenty...two years ago," he hoped he'd got that right, "a woman came here to have her child. This was her home, and she wanted the child to be safe," he was cautious in his words, ensuring that he didn't give away too much. "I need to speak with her child, but I do not know the name."
"I see," she certainly did seem to understand. She studied him critically, before smiling a gap-toothed smile, and gesturing down a path, "if you follow this path, you'll find one of our better farms. I think they may be able to help you, for they have a son who must be around that age, now. Perhaps that will help. Of course, it might not - many people were born twenty-two years ago."
"But not all of them stay in the same place. I do not believe that everyone of age would like to stay here."
"You're right. Very few do."
"Thank you for your assistance," he tipped his head and mounted Titus again, giving an apologetic pat to the bay's neck, "it is much appreciated."
The old woman smiled, but said nothing more as he followed the direction she had pointed in. As she had told him, a farm came into view. He dismounted Titus yet again, and was glad to find a post to tie his reins to.
"I'll be back," he said gently, "behave yourself."
Titus snorted and shook his head, watching as his rider left. Robin made his way up the path to the house - he assumed it was the farmhouse, at least. He glanced over his shoulder and squinted for a moment, before taking a deep breath and knocking three times on the door - loud enough to be noticed. Then, he dropped his hand and held it at his side. Admittedly, there was a slim chance of this being the person he was looking for, but there was still a chance. He had seen pictures of the late King and Queen of Elaeis, committed them to memory. They were distinctive people, and he held no doubt that their child (possibly son, from the woman's words) would be just as distinctive. He only hoped that this was the right person.

( hey ! just a head's up -- i'm going to a wedding soon and i won't be back to reply until later tonight or tomorrow ! )
It was just another day at the farm for Cedric Raine. Like clockwork, he awoke at the crack of dawn to the sound of the rooster’s squawking, and got ready to go about his day. It was nearing the end of July, creeping into August, which meant that he had to finish ploughing and gathering the crops his family had grown all summer. He headed over to the small patch of farmland and began to awaken the oxen and attached the plough on its back. The oxen awoke with a temper, frustrated that it was awake so early in the morning, but with a little bit of consoling from Cedric, began to plough the fields.
As the oxen finished ploughing through the fields, he led the animal back into the stable. He then headed over to collect the eggs from the hens, and he always earned a couple pecks on his hands for taking them away. He went back into the house and set the basket of eggs by the kitchen, where his mother was busy preparing breakfast for the three of them.
“Good morning, mum.” Cedric kissed his mother’s cheek. “Where’s dad?”
“He’s in the barn, winnowing. He’s almost gotten through with all of the grain we’d grown.” Eliza Raine answered.
“That was fast.” Cedric said, leaning on the counter, sipping on some cider.
“Well, you know your father. He likes things done fast, and I know how much you hate winnowing.”
“Well, gotta get back to the pasture. Time to feed those animals.” Cedric downed his drink before leaving the house to tend to the animals.
He first went to the pig pen, changing their water and feeding them grains. He similarly went to the cows to milk them, and he had about a bucket’s worth of milk total once he finished. He saved his favorite animal for last, their trusty horse named Percy. The horse was a midnight black shire horse with white legs.
The horse greeted him with a soft neigh as Cedric released him from the stables to graze in the pastures. Percy took his time to graze in the grass as Cedric began to brush the horse’s hair, getting it ready to do the day’s labor.
-
Eliza Raine looked out the window as she watched her son groom the horse. He’d loved that horse since he was a child, and they’d grown up together. Of course they had their dog, Leo, but he normally stayed indoors, as he was getting old. Cedric had grown up to be a capable man, although she was afraid that they’d inhibited his potential to be anything other than a farmer. She and her husband, Gideon, were older than most parents with children his age. They’d told Cedric he was adopted when he turned sixteen, and surprisingly he’d taken it very well. His birth mother had died shortly after giving birth to him, and the Raine family had taken in the infant boy and raised him to the best of their abilities.
The woman pushed the nostalgic thoughts aside as she fed Leo his usual breakfast. Eliza was in the middle of bottling the milk Cedric had gotten for her when there was three knocks on the door. She cleaned her hands and made her way over to the door, opening it to see an unfamiliar man.
He was dressed oddly, and it was evident he was someone from the Capital. Eliza’s eyes narrowed as she stared at the man with suspicion. People from the Capital rarely ventured to the small town of Wolford, located at the base of Mount Frelst, and the last time anyone had come was during the war. Now that the war was over and Itezi and Elaeis were one kingdom, there was no need for anyone from the Capital to come.
“Who are you?” The woman asked, warily eyeing the stranger.

[ i may or may not be terrible bc i didn't notice you'd replied ;v; sorry ]
It was no surprise that he was greeted with suspicion; he, himself, would've been more cautious had he been welcomed. Robin gave an easy smile and tilted his head to the side, taking in the woman's appearance for a moment. If whom he was looking for was truly located here, then he could assume that this was either an adopted sibling or the adopted mother - most likely the latter, though he couldn't be entirely sure. He felt like mother suited her best.
"Captain Robin Bellerose," he gave a little bow, dipping his head down but keeping his gaze up, "I am here on a peaceful mission; I am seeking someone very important. It would be greatly appreciated if you could help me, ma'am."
His tone was respectful and soft as ever, and he straightened himself up once he'd introduced himself. He held high hopes that this would be not only his first but his last stop; it would be sheer luck, if that happened. In his mind, he continued to picture the old Royal Family - they were so different to the Itezi Family that he had been surprised, at first. Yes, he had no doubt that he'd be able to pick up the heir on sight - but it was a matter of whether or not he was believed. Robin knew that, had he been in that situation, he would not have believed anyone about a matter as important as this.
Though, now that he thought about it, maybe he'd believe someone of importance. He didn't know if he, himself, would qualify as that; he was important when it came to the Royal Guard, and he was only a quiet name on the lips of city-goers and those in his hometown. A whisper when danger rose. He was nothing to these people; that was what the Itezi people had done to this kingdom. Once upon a time, he supposed that the Captain of the Royal Guard would have been well-known. He heard stories of heroes, knew of stories of grandeur. He did not care for that. He wanted the country to be as it once had been - independent, able to make its own living. They had so many materials - ore from mines, fish from the sea and rivers, and crops and animals from the farms, and yet they had nothing to show for it.
It made him sad.

( lol it’s ok hhehee robin’s so cute )
The older woman looked up and down the short man, a bit taken aback at his declaration that he was indeed a captain. She remembered back when Eleais was its own sovereign country and the captain of the royal guard was taller. More… captain-like. But who knew what lurked underneath the short man? Maybe he was really talented in his skill. If he was captain, then there was no reason to underestimate the man — he was probably definitely more skilled with fighting than their family ever will be. But that didn’t mean that she should be any less wary of the stranger, especially if he was looking for someone. They weren’t the first house in the town ; he’d come to their house because someone had pointed him in this direction.
“What makes you think we can help you?” Eliza asked, as she heard the back entrance of the door to the house open. She turned to see who it was, and it was her husband, Gideon Raine, back from winnowing in the barn.
“Eliza?” Gideon called out. “Where are ya?”
“At the door. There’s someone here.” She called back.
“Well, let them in, for pete’s sake. They’re no good standing at the door!” His voice boomed throughout the house. The man pet their dog, Leo, who’d gotten up at his entrance back into the house, and the animal trotted over to the unfamiliar scent of Captain Bellerose.
Eliza, Gideon and Bellerose sat at their dining table as Eliza stared at the stranger warily while Gideon didn’t seem to mind as to why a man from the capital was in their home. She set her husband’s plate of breakfast in front of him and she looked out the window to see that Cedric was still out with Percy, their horse.
“Pray tell, what does a captain of the capital need from us humble farm folk? You are very far from the capital to come to the town of Wolford.” Gideon asked, sipping his ale.
-
Cedric had finished combing down the horse, and used the loose hair for the hens’ nests in their coops. He fed the horse and took him out for a walk, and Cedric felt a surge of childlike giddiness whenever he rode on the horse. Soon enough, Cedric left Percy out in the pasture along with their sheep to graze and walk around as he dusted himself off to re-enter the house for breakfast.
As he re-entered the house, he was greeted by their dog Leo, who licked his hand affectionately. But what caught Cedric’s attention was the unfamiliar cloaked man sitting at their dining table. His father seemed to be in a conversation with him, and so Cedric approached his mother, who had her back towards them.
“Who’s that?” Cedric whispered.
“His name is Captain Robin Bellerose. He wants our help in finding someone.” Eliza whispered back.
“Why us? Who’s important enough in Wolford?”

[ haha im glad you think so ]
When Robin found himself seated at a dining table, he was...somewhat surprised. His gaze flicked between both of the strangers before he smiled quietly and looked down at his hands. He steeled himself for a moment, before looking back up to make eye contact with the man.
"Wolford is a very special place," he began carefully, "and I am here on my own mission, and the person whom I seek is...very specific. I came here because your family met the criteria. The - well, they will no longer be a child - but whom I look for is twenty-two years old, of golden hair and eyes much like the sea. This is all I know; their mother came here to ensure they were safe, and she left a note of coordinates with an old map. In all honesty, it should have been found sooner."
He heard voices but did not turn - he could identify one as the woman he'd talked to at the door, but he couldn't place the other one. Robin did not look back, instead focusing his attention wholly on the man in front of him.
"I know that the description I give is not very specific - it is all I have to go from. I want - no, I need - to bring them with me. I wish to tell you more, but I do not know how to explain without sounding more of a fool than I already do," his smile was gentler, now. "I had thought that my journey here would give me time to collect my words, but I find them failing me."
In all honesty, Robin had forgotten what it was like to talk to people outside of the Capital; outside of the people of the court, his own men and the servants. His own Guard were easy to talk to, most of them were like family. The servants, too, were familiar to him. Being in an unfamiliar place was strange and nerve-wrecking, but he liked to think that maybe, just maybe, he was doing okay so far. Or perhaps he was a madman to have even attempted to take this on by himself.

( blegh sorry for this post :/ so short )
Gideon Raine listened to the man in front of him while eating his breakfast. He had almost finished swallowing his food when the captain’s description surprised him, making him cough. He quickly swallowed along with a large gulp of ale and wiped his mouth, his brown eyes staring at the smaller man. By the description alone, there were only a handful of people that fit the golden hair and blue eyes category, for Wolford sported many children with hair as dark as night and eyes brown like the surrounding woods. But only one fit the latter half of the captain’s words about the death of the birth mother.
This man was talking about his son.
-
Cedric was eating his breakfast in the kitchen, as he always did, and was trying to eavesdrop on the conversation between the man and his father. His ears perked up at the mention of his own physical description, and it fit with the fact that he knew he was adopted. He glanced up at his mother, who had stopped eating, and her face was one of surprise. They’d made the same conclusion, probably as his father made it as well.
He set the plate down in the sink and grabbed his cup of ale as Cedric made his way to the table where the two men were talking. He slid in to the seat in between the two men who were facing each other, and stared at the short man.
“That was a very poetic description of my eyes, dear Captain.” Cedric smirked. “Pray tell, why are you looking for me?”

[ don't sweat it man ]
As unprofessional as it was, Robin felt his leg jerk as the man spoke to him, and he finally moved his gaze to see the one who was speaking. He paused, momentarily, smile dropping to a small frown. He would not have believed that it was as simple as simply happening to find the right family whom had adopted the heir, but...here he was. He was as Robin had imagined; a lookalike of both the Queen and the King. After a couple of seconds, his smile returned and he raised a single eyebrow.
"I have been known to have my poetic moments," he said calmly, "is it possible for us to speak in private?"
He didn't want to have to hide any information from the adopted parents of the Prince, but it took far too much effort not to fall into his years of training to be respectful to royals. This man - he did not know what he was, and it would likely be better to have as few people around as possible. If he had to, then he supposed he could probably speak about it in front of the other two - but Robin much preferred the idea of breaking the news gently.
After all - it was no small matter. To have the sheer luck to find the Crown Prince of Elaeis, and to then have to tell him about something that had happened so long ago on the mere hope that he would believe him...he was not sure how long his luck would last, and it scared him, just a little.

( ack my posts are becoming shorter :// sorry -- i'm sure it'll be longer once we get deeper into the plot )
Cedric watched as the man took in his words. His smile had dropped momentarily into a frown, but perked up again as he continued talking. His blue eyes stared at the captain as he requested that they spoke in private. He looked over to his parents, who were now sitting side by side, an eyebrow raised in a silent question. Could they trust this man?
His mother, undoubtedly, looked worried that the stranger was going to whisk her son away to the capital. His father had no facial expression, but merely scratched his beard. Cedric looked from his parents to the strange captain sitting before them, then rose from his seat.
“Very well. Follow me.” Cedric said, leading the way towards the farm. Leo perked up as his master began to walk outside, and followed the two men to the pastures where the sheep was still grazing. Cedric let Leo loose to gather the sheep back into their pens and leaned back on the fence to face the captain.
“What is it that you’re so eager to tell me?” He asked, crossing his arms in front of his chest.
