I think I am taking a bit of a break from this. I have not quit; I do still plan to put up the answers to the questions that have been asked, and if more are asked then I won't just disappear. However, right now I just…can't seem to actually make these things?Alternate title: please I'm desperate!!!!! I posted these characters last month. I had been considering trying to make some comics out of them, but I am a very unoriginal person (IAVS's entire existence is because I couldn't come up with a comic on my own). Brownie commented that they'd like to see mini comics of these characters. That was a really nice thing to say, but the problem of my unoriginality still existed. What now!? …Why not fish prompts out of people. Okay, my scanner hates color, so the colors (especially orange!!!) look wrong. Version one is the default; version two is an attempt at correcting the colors. I used 14 fancy pens (4 blue, 3 green, 2 purple, orange, gold, pink, gray, brown) as well as regular red and black pens and a mechanical pencil to draw them. (Conveniently I had already stopped at 16 characters, so I didn't need to figure out what to do for a 17th underline color…I guess someone could have been blank, but then what about 18?) My favoritism will probably become obvious quickly. I'll be honest upfront: there are 6 characters that I love, 6 that I like, and 4 that I just…don't care about that much. That said, the less I care about a character right now, the more important it is for me to use them, so don't worry about asking one of the nobodies something. I'll do my best to respond with full comics about them, though some questions might not warrant more than a couple words of answer. In case my handwriting is bad or the picture is too small to read or something, here's a list of the cats with their names: tuxedo: Cypress spotted tabby and white: Hemlock golden tabby: Willow fluffy gray: Maple
chocolate calico: Locust white: Nutmeg gray: Oak herringbone tabby: Spruce
gray and white: Wisteria light brown tabby: Poplar
silver tabby and white: Cedar brown tabby: Birch snowshoe: Larch harlequin: Laurel ginger tabby: Aspen calico: Cherry So at first when drawing this I wasn't planning to make it into little scenes, so Cypress and Hemlock are just up there existing, and Willow and Maple are goofing off. Then I thought it would be funny if Spruce was being a big ham, and of course that would get Locust and Oak's attention. Nutmeg was added last, and that was really the only space left to put a cat, so she's just looking kind of uncomfortable. Wisteria and Poplar are newcomers to the group, but the two of them have been close for a long time, so they're off there to the side. Cedar is clumsy. I realized I was running out of room, so Birch is bounding along next to him. I've decided they're not together yet, but they will be. Larch is irritated by Cedar falling down, Laurel is trying to distract him, and Cherry and Aspen are hanging out there because Laurel and Cherry have been friends longer than any other pair in the group. That's enough description just offered up… (edit: it's totally okay if you don't want to, but: kinkajou mintedstar/fur🦇 Maplestone360 thought I should tag you just in case) I will like your post to tell you I've seen your question(s). I will tag you when I post the thing.

𝕊’𝕞𝕠𝕣𝕖Willow, do you have any family? Started this one without a real plan. It ended up being three pages. Willow: Yes! Willow: We still visit each other, but we don't live in the same city anymore. Willow: I take after my mom. (mom labeled Pecan) Willow: Not so much my dad. (dad labeled Larix) Willow: My older sister is somewhere in between. (sister labeled Osier) Willow: Last time we saw each other I got there early. We went to a rich people restaurant. Willow: Apparently someone changed my watch, like, a week before. Cypress: sorry Willow (in the past): Where are they!? Willow: Normally I can handle sitting in restaurants… (text above Willow: uncomfortable) Osier (in the past): Get your elbows off the table! Willow (in the past): HSSSS Osier (in the past): And I thought I was early. Willow (in the past): What? Willow: Anyway, lunch was good. Willow: Even if my watch was 20 minutes early. Cypress: I said I was sorry! Willow: So, yeah, Osier is pretty cool. Maple: Wait do I count Willow: Oh, and Maple's my girlfriend. Larch, why are you irritated at Cedar? Was thinking I'd make this one at least two pages, but there are only so many separate things about Cedar that bother him. Larch: At the moment… Cedar: AAH! Larch: How loud does one cat need to be!? Larch: More generally… Cedar and Birch (in the past): WHEN I WAS A YOUNG BOY MY FATHER TOOK ME Larch: He's loud and clumsy and steals my cereal! Cedar: I'm also tall. Hemlock, did you know that you're adorable? Sometimes I forget how to draw cats. Often I showcase how bad I am at perspective. Hemlock: I'm adorable? Hemlock: Thank you! Cypress: Of course you're adorable! Maple: We've…told you that before. Hemlock: Yeah, but you guys are already my friends! I thought maybe you were just being nice. Willow: Well, we are being nice, but you are adorable, so…

𝕊’𝕞𝕠𝕣𝕖Spruce, you look like a cool cat, what're your hobbies? Spruce's favorite thing to do is show off, but here are some actual hobbies. Spruce: Well, I admit this is far from unique, but I do enjoy reading. Cypress: What? I have never seen you with a book. Spruce: I read with Oak. Spruce: The only problem is he likes high fantasy and I don't. Oak, in the past, gesturing to The Hobbit: This one's not even a trilogy. Spruce, in the past, reading The Complete Sherlock Holmes: Too late. Lost in a super engrossing book here. Spruce: I also like basketball because I'm good at it… Spruce: and broomball because it's fun. Oak, in the past: Dragons. Aspen, is there someone special in your life? I confess, the panel two joke is entirely because I was having a lot of difficulty positioning them. You can probably see a few ghost Aspen hands and Cherry shoulders in there. Aspen: Sorry this is such a short answer… Aspen: I have Cherry! Who is apparently standing farther away than I realized. Aspen: Wish we had a cuter story than we do. Laurel, in the past: Oh, hey, Aspen. Ah, that's Aspen, and this is Cherry. Cherry, in the past: Hi. Aspen, in the past: Hey. Oak, who is your best friend? Panel two is based on a real place, though I drew it from memory, so no guarantees on the accuracy… Oak: Hm. Oak: I am unquestionably closest to Spruce. Oak: But I do try not to call him my best friend. Oak: You know it would go to his head. Spruce: Would not. Oak: Second, I'd say…Maple? She's always exciting to hang out with. Locust: You know I'd call you my best friend! Spruce: I know. @burglar (Sorry I ended up combining these…) Locust, How and why does a cat stand like that? I've never seen that done before, what a feat Spruce, That pose is the smoothest thing I've ever seen. Can you teach me your ways I should have gone with the original Spruce stripe pattern, but sometimes I make bad decisions. Locust: Well, this is just how we stand. Spruce: As for this… Spruce: "How can I be smooth?" is the wrong question. Spruce: A better question would be: how smooth are you? Spruce: Smoothness can be learned. Don't ask how; I never had to. Spruce: If you're smooth, you can make almost anything smooth. If you're not, it doesn't matter how you sit. Cypress: Is this necessary? Laurel, Do you think cat-eye glasses are a statement or does it make you mad that humans are stealing your look Larch, How does someone cure boredom I'm about 80% sure I considered giving Laurel glasses and then decided to just throw out glasses entirely (since you know more than just 1/16 of them would have them, and glasses are hard). Laurel: … Laurel: I'm not sure this is my style, but I don't have any complaints. Larch: They don't even look like my eyes. Laurel: They look a little like mine. Larch: To cure boredom. Larch: Video games, bicycles, movies, TV shows, TV Tropes, sporkings, actual books, music, uh, some people like to cook… Larch: …Sports? Laurel: I think they want to know what you do. Larch: Well, I guess…some of that stuff? BrownieWisteria, how do you like the new friends? If you want things that are more specific go ahead and ask (I'm not trying to dodge it), but I kind of tried to make it about the group as a whole? Wisteria: Overall? Great! Wisteria: Mostly. Wisteria: I met Cypress first. Wisteria: She…was not having the best time. Wisteria: And then Cypress introduced me to the rest. Wisteria, in the past: ? Spruce, in the past: … Wisteria: Sometimes things get…chaotic, but what else could you expect?

BrownieCypress, what's your favorite color? your name is awesome I changed my mind at the last second because I already have an important Pine and an important Pinecone in different "worlds" and I thought she looked more like a Cypress anyway. Cypress: Hey! First of all, thank you! My name was almost Pine. Cypress: I like blue! About any shade. Willow: Say it. Cypress: No. Maple: Say it. Cypress: No. Willow: Say it! Cypress: Fine. Cypress: Cerulean. Bombay Sapphire. The deep end of a pool.

starryoaksodacherry, what's your favorite pass time?? A Town Called Panic is a very strange French movie. Cherry: Huh. Well, there are a lot of things I like to do… Cherry: But if I had to pick one, I guess I would say watching movies. Cherry: Good movies or bad movies. I love making fun of bad movies. Including ones on MST3K. Aspen, in the past: Again? the TV, in the past: Tom Servo! Crow! Cherry: I also recommend A Town Called Panic. Cherry, in the past: Come on, I know you have subtitles! the TV, in the past: Cheval! does anyone like swimming? does anyone really hate swimming? Luckily, the last panel of the first page is actually great, and I didn't realize who I'd put together until I'd started drawing it… Oak: I actually used to be on a swim team. Spruce: I hate swimming. Oak: Wait, what!? Oak: You had me set aside an extra day of the vacation so we could go to the beach. Oak: Is that was only for me, then we don't have to-- Spruce: Relax. Spruce, holding up two fingers: The beach also has sun and ice cream. Which I do like. Birch, giving a thumbs down: Swimming is bad. Maple: The water gets all in your fur, in your nose, gross. Cedar: Luckily, we are all basically ambivalent. Willow and Locust: "Luckily?" Cedar: Uh…ambivalence is convenient! Cherry: Eh, I like it, but it's not my favorite. Wisteria: I can agree with that. Poplar: Same. Hemlock: It's fun, but getting dried off is a hassle. Nutmeg: I like to swim. Cedar: Remember when you and Hemlock used to-- Nutmeg: Yes. Used to. Cypress: I like to swim, but I haven't gotten invited swimming in a long time. Wisteria: You know all you have to do is ask, right? Poplar: Yeah, we'll go with you! Cypress: Yeah maybe I'll do that sometime text with an arrow pointing to Cypress: is too nervous to ever initiate anything Larch: We've just been swimming. Laurel: It's worth the wet fur. Aspen: I can't swim!

sorry for the delay! tried to make up for it with extra colored panels Maplestone360@anyone: do you ever question reality? Or morals or life? WHOOPS! I wasn't on the computer/phone while drawing this, so I misremembered "morals" as "morality," and that's where Spruce's thing in the third panel comes from. I guess maybe Spruce just didn't hear the actual question and is going off what Oak said? Sorry about that! I think I still managed to answer the question, though. (Also, in panel three, Willow's word gets cut off--that word is "mortality.") Maple: I like contemplating reality. Willow and Cypress: I don't. Oak: I'm quite comfortable with morality as I see it, though I am conscious to periodically examine it. "The unexamined life is not worth living." Spruce: Are you sure she doesn't mean "mortality?" Maple: That too. Willow: I contemplate mortality all the time! Oak: I'm…scared to death of death? Cypress: Surprisingly, I have completely come to terms with mortality. Nutmeg: Lately I've been contemplating…a lot of things. Hemlock: Reality being fake scares me, morality being wrong scares me, and I can't stop thinking about death. Cypress: H-- Hemlock: I'm fine. Cherry: Oak tries to have deep conversations with me sometimes. It's…a little old by now. Aspen: Cherry never wants to talk about death! …That sounds bad. Poplar: Death is my deal. Wisteria: Kinda freaks me out, but it's cool. Laurel: I love to explore those themes in my writing. What is morality? How do people deal with death? Is our "reality" really reality? Is it the only reality, or are there more? Larch: … Laurel: Gray morality. Completely different moralities. Can people really redeem themselves from evil acts? wadevvilsonHemlock, what's your favorite time of day? That big ugly scribble is supposed to be trees. I forgot I'm bad at haphazard distant scribbles. Hemlock: Well, the first thing that comes to mind is sunset. Hemlock: But I really love cool sun rises! Hemlock: So…I guess I'll go with sunrise. Cypress: They're always up at the crack of dawn. Hemlock: Some of us go to sleep before midnight! Locust, what's your earliest memory? The scanner technically messed up the colors, but I actually really like what it did to the ocean. Thanks, scanner. (no words)

wadevvilsonLarch, what do you like to do to relax? Drawing out the last panel like that was a mistake. I was initially intending to make that a second color panel (to make up for the delay), but it's a mess. Hopefully it's clear enough that Laurel is driving the car. Larch: Well, depending on why I'm relaxing, there are two different big things I do. Larch: If I'm angry, I usually read. Larch: I sit by myself by the window with music playing. Sometimes I read real books, sometimes blogs making fun of books, and sometimes Laurel's stuff. He prints it out for me. Larch: If I'm upset, you know, or worried… Larch: Well, we aren't always able to do this, but Laurel and I drive around the city. And sometimes get doughnuts. mintedstar/fur🦇*pokes Spruce* What do you hate most in life? :3 I couldn't remember how the Minted cat looked, so I guess you're Will C. Morgen now. Sorry for so little color…I probably should have considered that Oak and Spruce are both gray. (Well, black and silver in Spruce's case, but…that might as well be gray.) Spruce: !!! Spruce: … Spruce: What was that? Oak: A poke. Spruce: But why? Spruce: Can my answer be "being poked?" Oak: No. Spruce: Why not? Oak: Because we all know better. Spruce: All right! All right. Spruce: All right, there are a lot of bad things in the world. Bigotry of course comes to mind. But I would feel disingenuous picking something so… far-reaching. Spruce: But the smaller the scale, the more selfish and petty they become! Spruce: I would say snakes, but I know they're not evil-- Spruce: Snakes make me uncomfortable! Oak: You're derailing your own answer. Spruce: Sorry. Spruce: Final answer: people who show me snakes. Oak: People do that? Spruce: You'd be surprised.

still finishing up on the actual comics but here are some things I mentioned changing Cypress's name from Pine because of the other Pine and Pinecone, but also:
Willow was the first one I named, and Larch was the second.
Oak went through a few seconds of being named Maple before I decided Maple was a better name for…Maple.
Originally, Spruce was going to be called Locust, and Locust was going to be called Holly. However, if you read IAVS then you know why I wanted to change that. I like spruce trees, so I just shifted the name Locust onto the girl.
Poplar was created specifically because I wanted to name someone after a tulip poplar. They have kind of funny-shaped leaves.
Laurel is intentionally designed to look like an old character I had. I remembered the character as Laurel, but I checked and she was actually named Lapis Lazuli, so either Laurel was a different character who looked similar or I just misremembered the name. Lapis Lazuli was only ever drawn once, and she was facing left on the page…which means I'll never know if she was supposed to have black spots on her right side.

wadevvilsonLaurel, what's your favorite food? I've only had this once, but I think I remember it being pretty good. Laurel: Baklava. Definitely baklava. Laurel: In case you don't know what that is, it's kind of a pastry thing with nuts and honey inside. Laurel: The first time I had it was with Cherry. Laurel, in the past: "Baklava?" Cherry: Try it. It's good. Laurel: Though is picking a dessert cheating? It kind of feels like cheating. Cherry, do you like cherry ice cream? Okay, the ice cream I mix with peppermint stix is blue moon, and there was also that time I ate mint chocolate chip, peanut butter, and birthday cake together… Cherry: You mean like Whitehouse? Cherry: I've never had ice cream that was just cherry, but I love Whitehouse. Cherry: Aspen! Aspen: What? Cherry: We're getting ice cream tonight. Aspen: … Aspen: Don't do it. Cherry: I'm gonna do it. Aspen: No. Aspen: Cherry thinks it's totally okay to mix Whitehouse and peppermint stick. text: later: mintedstar/fur🦇Hey, Willow! Do you believe in or like something that others might not approve of? This one was a big delay, but I think I improved at drawing the hexagon face over the course of the comic. Willow: First, let's put it this way: I have a very firm stance on a topic that's controversial here. Willow: Very firm.Willow: All that aside! Willow: There's gotta be something. Someone disapproves of everything… Willow: On the complete other end of the scale, I guess some people think Harvest Moon isn't for adults. Willow: But that's way too normal for this! Willow: I like pineapple on pizza? Willow: This is hard to do without saying controversial things. Maplestone360@anyone: ...do you like Jayfeather? You can see my lack of planning. Jayfeather was probably one of both Laurel and Locust's fictional crushes, which isn't weird for them because they're cats… Poplar: I love Jayfeather! Locust: Same! Laurel: A long time ago Locust and I had a Jayfeather club that was just the two of us. Larch: I never liked Jayfeather. He was grumpy and complained too much. Cherry: I don't really care either way. Aspen: Or about Warriors. Wisteria: I never read it, but Poplar likes him. Birch: Warriors is for losers. Cedar: Be nice! Nutmeg: I stopped reading around Rising Storm. Cypress: He wasn't too bad, but he was boring. Maple: We like to make fun of him. Hemlock: Aw, he was okay. Spruce: I can't stand that smug little thing. Oak: I don't know, I think there's something to be said for smug gray tabbies with legions of fans… text: I used my space badly so here's Jayfeather
