I guess πβππ π£π started this? at any rate πβππ π£π is the one I saw first which was when I decided I'd do this
now, I drew mine traditionally, but I realized too late that my scanner is really bad for scanning colors! so I have two versions here; one is the default scan, and one is after I messed around with the settings (it seemed to help with some colors but not others; orange suffered either way)
some of the colors are really bright!!! especially color-corrected Aspen and Willow
anyway, here they are! I chose a set of cats named for trees; they exist and have personalities and group dynamics and everything, but there's no plot for them so they might never end up in a story
they're inβ¦almost alphabetical order
I used my fancy new pens for this!!! uh I think I bought four blue, three green, two purple, pink, brown, gray, orange, and yellow? also generic red and black pens which I didn't buy fancy versions of because they're such common colors
to make the shapes I made a second layer, put a big green blob roughly covering the cat, went to "Filter" "Stylize" "Crystalize" (which by default comes up as 20 and I left it as 20), then moved the green layer to the back and turned the drawing layer into a clipping mask
I'm also trying to make a style where I don't color in the whole cat (for the practical reason of making my fancy pens last) but I'm very new at it (the shape of the cats is the same as always but I'm trying to change the coloring)
Aspen
Aspen is pretty cool. She'll go off and do her own thing for hours. Maybe that's reading a book, maybe it's going to an amusement park, you never really know. I mean, you can ask. She's friendly; she'll tell you if you want to know. She might even invite you along! You don't have to worry that you're imposing yourself on her. She just doesn't want to bother you and is fine with doing stuff alone too.

Cedar and Birch
Cedar and Birch aren't the only ones here who are in a relationship, butI have a lot of trouble getting cats to look the right respective sizes I just felt like putting these guys into one picture. They're, uh, pretty annoying. Birch is annoying on his own, and Cedar is annoying because he will do anything for attention, especially from Birch. Birch is loud, and Cedar will trip over your feet no matter how out of the way you are. He's doing his bestβ¦
(respectively silver tabby and white with orange eyes and brown tabby with green eyes)
Cherry
Cherry is Aspen's girlfriend. She and Laurel have been friends forever. If you're with either Laurel or Aspen, there's about a 50% chance that Cherry is there too. It's funny, you don't feel like you know what she likes to do, but it's not like she doesn't seem happy when you do things. She's acting exactly the same as she did yesterday. Is she faking being happy??? No, probably not, she just really likes being around people.
(calico with emerald green eyes)
Cypress
Cypress really tries. She has a lot of fears, but probably the biggest one is that her friends will abandon her, so she's kind of like the punching bag of the friend group. They don't mean to put her through anything, but she just sort of makes minor complaints about everything while also doing what she's told. She has a hopeless crush on Willow and doesn't think anyone has noticed. Fortunately Willow is kind of a doofus (which I say in the most affectionate way), so at least Willow doesn't know. But, uh, it's pretty obvious. Probably takes herself more seriously than she should sometimes.
(tuxedo with olive green eyes)
Hemlock
For a while there things weren't going so great for Hemlock, but Maple and Willow recently made it their goal to get them back on their feet. (Paws?) Hemlock's dealing with their lifelong friend Nutmeg suddenly dropping them at the same time as they got a not-so-enjoyable job, and then there was the whole broken ankle ordeal. Maple and Willow don't always (or ever) give the best advice, but it is helping! They've gotten a lot closer to Cypress recently, too, not as in a relationship but as friends.
(brown tabby and white with golden eyes)
Laurel
As mentioned above, Laurel and Cherry have been friends forever. Like, since they were little kids. Without them, the whole group probably wouldn't be together. Laurel is always polite and kind of quiet; he doesn't have much presence, but he's still nice to be around. (It sounds sketchier than it is when I mention that he writes weird fanfiction. It's not that type of weird. He still doesn't want you to read it.)
(harlequin with dark blue eyes)
Larch
Larch looks like he frowns a lot, but he's a good friend. Unless you're Birch or especially Cedar. Do not annoy Larch. He's the one cat who goes to Maple and Willow for advice and then does the opposite of what they tell him. Cypress knows better than to ask, and a couple of them don't have any questions in the first place, but Larchβ¦has mostly gamed the system. Sometimes the opposite of questionable advice is not necessarily good advice. He and Laurel are together.
(snowshoe with pale blue eyes)
Nutmeg
(note: questioning flag is not official) Nutmeg has always kind of been a jerk. She was sort of like a protector to Hemlock for a few years. No word on why she's stopped talking to the rest of the group. A couple of them have seen her around, and Aspen and Laurel have both talked to her. She'sβ¦improving substantially, actually. Probably not connected to her questioning, because she told Hemlock she was questioning a couple years back. She wishes she were more sure of herself, but she's not too worried.
(white with lime green eyes)
Maple
Maple is nice. Probably not the right cat to go to for advice, although things generally seem to work out in the end. She and Cypress have a little bit of a rivalry, because Maple has noticed Cypress's interest in Willow, but they're stillβ¦friends. Sort of. Mostly. Maple is a fun cat to be around, but she can get kind of petty. She and Willow have been together for a while. When they're together they're extremely similar, because they kind of amplify each other, but unlike Willow, Maple enjoys quite a few sports (some of which she plays casually) and is perfectly content to sit quietly for hours.
(gray with orange eyes)
Oak
Stoic and serious? Compared to the others he is. Oak is good at giving people attention, which is probably Spruce's favorite thing about him. He never seems to need help for himself, but if you ask him for help, he's probably going to go ask someone else how to help you. He's not trying to get people to stop asking him for help, and even if he were it wouldn't be working anyway. He just seems like he has his life together, which I guess he does.
(gray with golden eyes)
Poplar
Poplar is Wisteria's friend who never initiates anything but has a 99% chance of showing up if you ask them. What are they doing? They like to talk about architecture. Sometimes they talk maybe a little too much about architecture. You can learn some cool stuff, though. I can almost guarantee you that they want to go with you to the art museum. They go there with everyone, but it's kind of frustrating because they will never, ever tell you that they want to go there. They might suggest it offhand and hope you noticeβ¦
(light brown tabby with aqua eyes)
Spruce
Spruce likes attention. That is probably the most important thing to know about him. He's always had an obvious thing for Maple, and while he's never planned to ask her or anything, he was a little disappointed when she and Willow started going out and therefore she would not be giving him as much attention. Give him attention right now. He likes to commiserate with Cypress, mostly because she's desperate to give attention. Oak and Locust are better at giving him their undivided attention, though. (Oak's attention is more divided than he thinks, but don't tell him that. It's the one thing he hasn't picked up on yet.) Okay, this all sounds pretty bad, but Spruce is fun to be around, I promise.
(silver herringbone with sage green eyes)
Wisteria
So Wisteria and Poplar were friends for years, but they're actually new additions to this group. Cypress got kind of lost and was freaking out about being alone, and that was how she met Wisteria. (Wisteria uses both she/her and they/them pronouns, by the way.) Wisteria's pretty cool but never seems to have anything going on.
(gray and white with slate blue eyes)
Willow
Willow and Maple are both kind of bossy. Willow is really interested in small versions of normal things. She has a few mini houses (think really fancy dollhouses) full of tiny furniture. She's been working on making her own. It's kind of ugly, but she has a lot of fun making it. She loves giving people advice, partly because she enjoys helping and partly because she enjoys having a say in other people's lives. As mentioned, her advice is not the best, but it usually works out in the end. Second to Maple she likes hanging out with Cypress the most because Cypress will do anything Willow tells her to do. Isn't that fun!?

update: Locust has moved out of the spoiler because I have developed her
Locust
I wanted to show you Locust because I think her spots are cool. I havenβt really decided ANYTHING about her so I won't say all that much, but she's nice and likes being in people's lives.
Update: y'all imagine a trans flag on that image.
