(there was an odd plotline with this character in the story. They're supposed to be Smokepaw(the one that died in TNP))Chapter One: Swankit’s Introduction
~Swankit’s POV~
Jolting awake from a nap, Swankit realized that a disgusting, little paw slithered down her curled-up spine, one that she was going to rip to shreds. She quickly uncurled and leaped to her paws, her eyes filled with blatant rage. “Which one of you mousebrains touched my back?” She surveyed all of the other kits in the nursery, Foxkit, Nightkit, Icekit, Jaykit, Lionkit and Hollykit.
(uhh calm down) “Foxkit, Nightkit and Icekit didn’t do it,” Jaykit stated the obvious, his pupils pointed towards the two young kits, “I didn’t do it either.”
Swankit knew for a fact that her brother on the edge of the nursery walls was being honest. She glanced behind her quickly to see Lionkit sprawled out and sleeping, facing away from her. She knocked out him for being a potential suspect. She pointed her head towards her sister, Hollykit. Swankit knew that she knew that she was a suspect, and the only suspect as that.
(redundancy) “I didn’t do it, it was Jaykit!” Hollykit yowled, “Don’t attack me, attack him!”
“I don’t believe you,” Swankit’s eyes narrowed onto Hollykit, and she began to growl. She quickly thrusted herself forwards, stretching her front paws forwards and drawing out her puny claws. Her paws slammed against Hollykit’s flank as they started to tumble over to the bramble walls of the nursery. She could hear Hollykit yowling in distress. Swankit shoved Hollykit against the nursery walls with a loud hiss.
“Ferncloud!” Hollykit yelled, closing her eyes tightly.
Swankit pushed her into the bramble wall tighter, making her claws enter Hollykit’s flank. Swankit could hear Hollykit screaming, until she slackened her legs and loosened her claws. Hollykit flopped to the ground. She turned around to see Squirrelflight, Ferncloud, Brambleclaw, Brook and Ashfur, all watching in both horror, surprise and anxiety, except for Ashfur, he watched in awe.
“Why did you do that?” Squirrelflight barked, storming up to Swankit. “You should know better than to attack a blind cat.”
(YEAH Swanpaw you dummy) Swankit responded with a deep growl, “She stroked my back with her paw. I have told her to not do it many times before!” She was looking at Hollykit, who was getting up. Blood oozed out of the claw marks that she had made on her.
(spoiler alert: Swankit becomes a villain in this version) “I did not!” Hollykit growled,
“That is no reason to attack Hollykit,” Squirrelflight said, steam coming out if her ears.
(magic) “Yes it is,” Swankit hissed.
“You will be taking care of the elders for the next moon.”
Swankit slammed one of her paws on the ground and grunted.
“Go, Swankit.”
She flattened her ears and crawled through the nursery entrance, and she went through the small stretch of camp in between the nursery and elder’s den. She went entered the elder’s den. Mousefur and Longtail sat next to each other, talking about things that Swankit didn’t quite understand.
Mousefur automatically noticed Swankit, who had entered through the side that she and Longtail were facing. She stared at Swankit and blinked. “Oh, you’ve finally came over for a story, Swankit?” Mousefur asked, purring slightly.
(Longtail and Mousefur are really OOC. Actually, most cats are)“No,” Swankit hissed, “I’m here to take care of you.”
“I could use some more bedding, okay?” Longtail commanded, “It can’t be wet."
Mousefur spoke as softly as water dripping on moss, “Please get us a piece of prey to eat, a rabbit, please.”
She nodded, veered around and left. She went back into the nursery and padded over to a group of unused nests. They were for the next she-cat that would be expecting. She quickly started to gather up some moss.
(THIEF)“I heard you got in trouble,” said a voice she automatically identified to be her sandy-yellow brother, Lionkit.
“So?” Swankit said, peering towards Lionkit for a heartbeat. She bent down and picked up the moss with her jaw.
“I don’t know.”
(congratulations. you have just met Lionkit. ALL of Lionkit) Swankit walked out of the nursery, the moss in jaw. She went back under the hazel bush that was the elder’s den, looking bored. “I did your task, Longtail.”
“Good,” Longtail replied, “give it to me.”
She scooted across the ground to the tabby tom. She dropped the moss onto his paws.
“Now, you’re going to help me put it into my nest, okay?” Longtail commanded again.
“Get out of your nest.”
“Okay,” Longtail said, taking a few steps out.
She picked up the moss and put it on the nest and moved it so that it was distributed across the nest. “I’m done.”
“Good, now do as Mousefur told you to do.”
Swankit walked out of the elder’s den and over to the fresh-kill pile. She saw a plump brown rabbit as one of the things at the top. She grabbed its leg with her jaw and dragged it to the elder’s den. She quickly threw it in and stuck her tongue out for a second before running back into the nursery.
Jaykit rushed up to Swankit and immediately started to gossip, “Did you hear? There was a fox who was killed near the sky oak, and it has cubs!”
(tell, don't show)“No,” Swankit shook her head. She quickly noticed that Ferncloud and her kits were missing.
“Now you have,” Jaykit said, turning around to go back to his other two littermates.
Swankit noticed that her other two littermates were having a discussion. “We’ll be important one day!” Hollykit spoke loudly to Lionkit.
“The time to be important is now,” Lionkit spoke softly with a light growl, “we are going to chase those fox cubs off of ThunderClan territory ourselves.”
“But if we leave camp without permission we would be breaking the warrior code.”
“We are doing something for the good of our Clan, how can that be breaking the warrior code?”
“Not to mention, but we aren’t warriors- we aren’t even apprentices –so why would we need to follow the warrior code?” Jaykit broke in.
(someone doesn't understand the warrior code)Swankit wanted to face-paw at her mousebrained littermates. Going against fox cubs as kits who didn’t know anything about fighting? That was a level of stupidity that marked off the charts.
(hmmm. something is wrong here)Hollykit started to give off a light purr, “If we do scare them off, Foxkit, Icekit and Nightkit would be safe.”
“Exactly,” Lionkit concluded. He walked through the nursery’s entrance into the main camp area. It looked abandoned, except for Daisy and Ferncloud, who were eating prey and sharing tongues. Hollykit and Jaykit all followed him out of the nursery and over to the bramble wall. Lionkit slipped out through it, along with Jaykit and Hollykit. Swankit only stood in the background with her icy gaze.
(not sure what I was trying to convey. Maybe that Swankit was evil? Or different?)~Jaykit’s POV~
Tree branches jingled in the soft breeze of the forest. The ground was rough and bumpy, much unlike camp’s ground. It hurt slightly up against Jaykit’s soft pads. The amount of ThunderClan scent had reduced dramatically. “We need to go to the sky oak, isn’t it near the lake?” Jaykit whispered, not wanting to be heard.
Hollykit nodded, “I feel a slight slope here,” she pointed her tail downhill, “the lake is that direction.”
“It looks like it,” Lionkit commented, moving his head forwards and squinting. He started to lead his littermates down the hill. “Remember, stay low.” They soon came across a large sycamore tree. They swiftly hid underneath a root after scenting Spiderleg.
“Gross! What is that smell?” Hollykit yelled, referring to a musty scent that Jaykit could smell.
“I think that it could be the dead fox, so we must be near,” said Lionkit.
Hollykit gaged, “I also smell a milk trail.” She walked out from under the root and looked behind her, beckoning her siblings. “Follow me,” she stated as she started to walk away. Jaykit and Lionkit followed her. A question of where she was going pulled at his brain. Hollykit led them up the hill and to a mound of dirt, “This is the den.”
(this whole thing feels tooooo quick) “How can you be sure?” Jaykit asked.
“This is where the trail leads,” Hollykit confirmed, “and I can hear them crying for food.”
“Why, it is no bigger than a rabbit hole!” Lionkit yelled.
“It must be an escape route for them, just in case the main entrance breaks,” she explained. She started to crawl into the hole, followed by Lionkit before Jaykit joined in. It was pitch dark, Jaykit couldn’t see Lionkit’s tail, which was in his face. He used his paws to feel around at the damp soil around him. He tried to ignore the strong, horrible stank of the soil and foxes by breathing through his mouth, which helped him slightly. He felt as if he was suffocating with the dirt brushing against his pelt and the still, heavy air.
Jaykit soon entered a small chamber, light gently sprinkled in from the side they came in from. The foxes were a silhouette that was much bigger than he expected. They saw the three kits and automatically started to growl, bark, snarl and snap. Lionkit dashed out as quickly as a rabbit through the entrance that they came in from, yelling, “Run, Hollykit and Jaykit, run!” Jaykit’s eyes dilated as Hollykit zoomed out, after a second, Jaykit followed.
(why did you hesitate) The foxes untwined each other and started to chase down Jaykit. He could feel the hot breath on his tail and he could hear their jaws snapping. He ran nimbly with grace in each step, he was careful not to fall. After all, he knew that if he did, he would be become a tasty snack. His vision was blurry as his heart raced. He suddenly realized that he was running straight into the hollow. He took a swift, ninety-degree turn, but his paws slipped. He scrambled to prevent himself from falling, however he failed and started to plunge to the ground. He twisted around so his paws were pointed downwards and braced for impact.
(wait what. how did this happen) Crack!Chapter Two: Rowanclaw’s Introduction
~Rowanclaw’s POV~
A ginger tom attempted to cross the stone path that stood as the border of ThunderClan and ShadowClan. Smokefoot persistently tried to block Firestar’s entrance by swiping, hissing and fluffing up his ruffled fur.
“I have to see Blackstar,” Firestar claimed, puffing out his chest. “I am here in peace.”
“How do we know that you aren’t lying?” He growled, curling up his lips to bare his teeth.
“I am an honest cat.”
(but how do we know that?) Smokefoot showed his black claws, yet a cinnamon tabby stepped up next to him and nudged him with a paw. “Firestar may have something important to tell Blackstar,” Rowanclaw explained, “we should let him see him.”
Smokefoot paused, “Fine.” He drew back in his claws, “but I’m not going to be happy about it.”
Firestar started to curve around Rowanclaw’s patrol. “Thank you,” he said in a light-hearted purr while nodding his head to him.
(Rowanclaw's personality: Nice Guy) “Don’t we have to escort him?” Ivypaw asked her mentor curiously.
Rowanclaw nearly tumbled over his words when she reminded him. “Yes,” Rowanclaw replied. He walked up to Firestar’s side, Smokefoot’s eyes lit up as he, Owlpaw and Ivypaw all surrounded Firestar. Firestar’s eyes shifted at the other cats as his body became noticeably tenser. They went through a winding path through the forest to ShadowClan camp, a tangle of bramble and branches in a hollow. Rowanclaw, who had taken the front of Firestar, led them to a tiny break in the thick growth and entered. Firestar went next, then Smokefoot, Owlpaw and Ivypaw.
(nervous nice guy) They walked along the line of all six ShadowClan dens, eventually reaching the fourth one from the entrance, Blackstar’s den. Smokefoot shoved Firestar in and explained, “This is your destination.” Firestar nodded in response and came in. Rowanclaw peeked in, seeing the white-and-black tom licking his haunches.
Rowanclaw watched Smokefoot and Owlpaw depart to get some food from the fresh-kill pile. Ivypaw watched them leave with a grim look on her face, his keen ears picked up a small rumble coming from her belly. “You can eat,” He said.
(why do I keep on using said. t h i s i s b o t h e r i n g m e) “I can’t eat a whole piece of prey by myself,” Ivypaw mumbled.
“Go share with Owlpaw.”
“He’s sharing with Smokefoot.”
Rowanclaw frowned, “Okay.”
He and Ivypaw scuffled over to fresh-kill pile, Ivypaw used her paw to drag out a plump-looking mouse and she used her claws to rip open its belly. She tore off a large section of its skin, bent down and started to eat. After a minute, Firestar came flinging out of Blackstar’s den and out of camp. A little while later, Ivypaw made the mouse into near scraps, claiming that she was full. Rowanclaw scooped up all of the flesh still remaining in his mouth. Blackstar walked out of his den and crawled onto a branch.
“I summon
(*call) all who can stalk in the undergrowth for a Clan meeting,” He called out into the Clan. Rowanclaw gathered at the front of the group. Russetfur came out of the warriors’ den with sleepy eyes, followed by Oakfur and Snowbird. Cedarheart and Tallpoppy stopped sharing tongues and looked towards Blackstar. Tawnypelt came out from the nursery, her kit-filled belly bulging out. Ivypaw, Owlpaw and Smokefoot all turned to look at Blackstar. Littlecloud came out of the medicine den.
“Firestar has just informed me of something that may be of concern to most of you,” Blackstar started. “There is a prophecy,
four will hold the power of the stars in their paws.” Tallpoppy murmured something indistinct to Cedarheart. “I think I understand the prophecy. It is, simply, four will have powers. I think that one of the cats with powers is among us.” Rowanclaw’s eyes scanned all of the other cats. “Does anyone know they have a power?” The birds chirping in the background suddenly became more apparent. “I take that as a no. Everyone- I need you to try to discover who has a power.”
(hmmm I wonder who had a power *cough cough* the POV *cough cough*) “Can we speak?” Owlpaw asked with a tilted head.
“Yes,” Blackstar replied.
“Eh- eh,” Ivypaw squeaked in effort. She had one of her paws off the ground, as she squinted.
With a meow of amusement, Oakfur asked, “What are you doing Ivypaw?”
“Trying to summon fire,” Ivypaw replied. She put her paw on the ground and looked down, putting one ear back slightly.
(I wonder how they even comprehend cats having a power, living cats being as powerful as StarClan. also, how can they make up powers, too?) Oakfur adjusted himself to face Blackstar’s branch. “I’ll show you how to summon fire!” His eyes narrowed, as he stared at the branch as Blackstar jumped off of it. Nothing happened. “Mouse-dung! I can’t summon fire.”
“Stand aside,” Smokefoot spoke, squeezing through Ivypaw and Oakfur, “I’ll do it- successfully, contrary to you two!” He stood up straight and closed his eyes for just a few heart-beats. One of his paws, which dangled in the mild air, twitched as he did this. He opened his eyes to find out that nothing happened. He put his ears back and crawled away.
Soon, more and more cats were involved in the testing to see if they could summon powers. Each one of them utterly failed, some of them were crushed or embarrassed. They tried more, some of them were silly, some serious, some almighty. No successes were found among the group- that was until sun-down.
“I’m going to try to turn into Rowanclaw,” Snowbird explained to Ivypaw before closing her eyes and taking a few deep breaths in. Nothing happened.
"I'll try!" Ivypaw said, mimicking Snowbird.
Rowanclaw took notice of them trying to turn into him. He shoved away the mouse he was eating and looked at them. He closed his eyes and imagined himself having a pure white pelt.
(all they do is eat by the way)"Rowanclaw, your pelt!"
Chapter Three
~Rowanclaw’s POV~
Rowanclaw opened his eyes after hearing an alarming yelp. “What is it?” He replied with a smooth, calm meow. His voice sounded like a mimic of Snowbird’s.
“It- your pelt -is white,” Snowbird struggled to get words out of her mouth. Her eyes were wide and her ears were perked up.
He went to Snowbird and sat down in front of her. “Oh- get out of here. There is no way that my pelt is white.” He was confident in what he was saying, but it started to leak out when he looked at his clan-mates shocked faces.
“Look at it yourself,” Snowbird said, taking a step away from Rowanclaw, so did the rest of the Clan.
Rowanclaw took a glance at his hind leg, much to his dismay, he saw pure white instead of his normal dark ginger. Fear scraped his belly as his heart sank. “Oh my StarClan,” he mumbled, his ears also turning hot and eyes widening.
“See if you can turn back to your original color,” a cat shouted at him.
Rowanclaw looked at them and nodded, thinking about the pelt he had before. He watched his paw swiftly turn from white to cinnamon.
(his power is pretty much changing his features. It's not really shape-shifting because he's still a cat)“I wish I had powers,” Owlpaw mumbled, twisting one of his paws and making sand swirl up into the air. Cedarheart and Tallpoppy went back into their den as if nothing happened. Owlpaw went to the apprentice’s den.
(WHY ARE THEY REACTING LIKE THIS??)“Whoa,” Littlecloud said, his jaw on the ground, “StarClan can grant powers like that?” He slowly retreated back into the medicine den.
“Lucky,” Smokefoot commented in an almost inaudible growl before leaving camp, Snowbird joined him.
“Congratulations,” Ivypaw said. She rubbed her head against Rowanclaw and went to the elder’s den.
Oakfur pouted and stormed to the warriors’ den, Russetfur went after him. Tawnypelt waddled over to nursery and entered, as if her belly was affecting how she walked. Blackstar walked past Rowanclaw once all the other cats were doing something else.
After a yawn, Rowanclaw went to the warriors’ den. He observed the five nests, four were unoccupied. He went to his, a raggedy mat made of moss and de-thorned bracken. He looked out the entrance, looking at the dark pine trees silhouetting against the dark blue and yellow sky. An owl called behind him as he shut his eyes.
His eyes opened to see the camp that he is all so familiar with. The sky was light blue with a light yellow sun in the center. The air was cold and dry and not clouds were in the sky. His pelt was a rather nasty-looking greenish-brown, and all the cats around him where chuckling loudly. A few were yelling insults such as, “Weirdo.” His ears were hot and his eyes watered.
“Go away, you look like dung,” said Oakfur, who looked a bit like dung himself.
(ugh, it's this scene) “We don’t like you anymore,” Smokefoot yelled.
“Go die in a hole!” Owlpaw screamed.
Tearing up more, Blackstar walked next to him and told Rowanclaw a simple command. “You don’t fit in with our Clan anymore, leave and never come back.”
“Yeah!” The Clan yelled, “Go away and never come back!”
Rowanclaw turned away and dashed out of camp. The pines surrounding him were sparsely-placed, along with whatever undergrowth he could find. Rowanclaw crawled under a bramble bush, which heavily mimicked the appearance of the warriors’ den. A single nest lay in the middle. He went into it and sat down, his head drooping. He noticed a small draft that made it uncomfortably cold, so he went out to try and find it on the outside of the den.
“I thought we told you to never come back,” a voice said behind him. He looked behind himself to see Oakfur, Smokefoot and Owlpaw all standing right behind him. “For this, you will die.”
Oakfur, Smokefoot and Owlpaw all jump onto Rowanclaw, scraping off fur and causing deep wounds. He was crushed and pinned to the ground. He yelped in pain as their sharp claws continued to rip him apart. He could see a single paw reaching for his neck. “Can we hunt?” A voice said, cutting into his dream.
(I shouldn't have laughed) Rowanclaw jolted awake, his chest heaving the heavy, cool morning air. His heart beat vigorously. He looked up at the cat who had interrupted him, a black-and-white she-cat with large ginger patches spread across the black with her face in his face. Blinking once at her, his breathing and heart rate started to slow down.
“Can we hunt?” Ivypaw asked again.
After a few moments, he replied with a nod, “Yes.” He tried not to gag at her breath. He stood up onto his paws and walked out of the den, his belly growled as he hoped to sneak a snack before leaving, yet the fresh-kill pile was non-existent. Rowanclaw groaned, “Where are we going?”
“I was hoping that we could go to that oak tree near the ThunderClan border, it is releasing acorns onto the ground and I’m sure prey is abundant there.”
He was a bit surprised to hear the apprentice’s words. “We’ll go there.”
“Do you think that Smokefoot, Oakfur and Owlpaw could come too?”
Rowanclaw hesitated for a second, “Uhm- sure.”
Ivypaw watched Owlpaw stand alongside her. “We are going to catch so much prey together, sis!” Owlpaw bubbled.
Smokefoot stood behind his apprentice with narrow amber eyes. Oakfur stood behind Ivypaw, purring. Rowanclaw looked behind him and bit his lip nervously. “I’m leading?” He asked them.
“Yes,” Smokefoot said. Rowanclaw reluctantly started to lead them out of camp. He looked around after taking a few steps out, Blackstar was at the entrance, surveying the forest for threats.
“Hi Blackstar,” Owlpaw bubbled loudly after coming out. He was jumping up and down as fast as he possibly could.
“Hi Owlpaw,” Blackstar replied with a soft gaze.
They turned left at the entrance and went through the loud, yet empty-looking, cedar forest. They scrabbled through a bramble bush, leaving tufts of fur behind on the thorns. Soon, they reached a clearing with thick-trunked oak tree in the middle. It had branches that swung in the wind and tiny acorns that plopped from the leaves and scattered onto the forest floor. Dark green grass was under it, though somewhat sparse. Undergrowth surrounded the clearing, though one side of the clearing was a two-leg path.
“Look, a squirrel,” Ivypaw pointed out with a quiet meow.
Owlpaw dropped into a crouch and silently started to crawl forwards, being slow and taking steady steps. He became a tail-length away before pouncing. He successfully caught the squirrel under his paw, keeping it pinned as it squirmed. He reached down with his head and nipped its neck. He took his paw off and picked it up while purring. He dashed back to his hunting patrol and dropped it in the center of them.
“Good work, Owlpaw,” Smokefoot praised.
Rowanclaw snuck to the back of the patrol, “I’m going to take this squirrel back to camp.” He meowed almost soundlessly, reaching for it with a paw. He noticed that the rest of his patrol were too busy watching Ivypaw catch a shrew to notice him, so he took the mouse and went back through the forest to camp.
Blackstar was still at the Clan entrance when he tried to enter. “Rowanclaw,” Blackstar started to tell him before he entered.
Rowanclaw replied with a brisk “Hmm?”
“Meet me in my den after you eat.”
Chapter Four
~Jaykit’s POV~
Leafpool came into the unlit medicine den, her amber eyes shined in the darkness. She had a small bundle of herbs wrapped up in a beech leaf. She looked at Jaykit, his eyes were large, dark and blue and also gleaming in the darkness. She used her keen eyesight to navigate the den. She placed the bundle next Jaykit and sat down in front of him. She placed her tail on one of Jaykit’s paws. “I want you to move this paw. Yelp if it hurts.”
Pain shot through Jaykit’s leg as he moved his right paw. “Ow!” He yelped.
Leafpool moved her tail to touch his other paw. “How about this one?”
Jaykit twitched his other paw, it hurt. But it wasn’t the stinging pain that he knew she was looking for. He watched Leafpool pause for a second, before tearing open the bundle. “Are my littermates okay?”
“Yes, they did not get hurt at all,” she replied, “You, on the other hand, should feel lucky to still be here.” She started to feel around Jaykit’s leg with her paw.
When Leafpool touched a spot close to his paw, he winced. “Is my apprentice ceremony going to be delayed?” He asked with a weak voice and tight muscles.
“Probably, it looks like your leg is broken.” She pulled some cobweb out of her bundle and started to wrap it around his leg.
Jaykit flinched before swatting at her. Leafpool bonked him on the head. He looked down and said, “Am I punished?”
“Lionkit and Hollykit are both punished. We decided that, since you got injured, we wouldn’t punish you.” She stopped and took a pawstep back.
“When will I be able to leave this den?”
“Maybe in a quarter-moon or a half-moon, you might need some assistance standing.” She replied. “Can we do your hind legs now?”
Jaykit kicked out his hind legs and twitched his hind paws. They hurt as well, but only as much as his front left leg. “They don’t hurt,” he replied.
Leafpool nodded, “Are you hungry?” She stood up and picked up the bent, chewed-up beech leaf. He nodded vigorously in response. She turned towards the bramble bush at the exit and walked through, leaving Jaykit all alone.
(yep. lots of eating) Chapter Five
~Rowanclaw’s POV~
Rowanclaw sat in Blackstar’s den, his stomach no longer growled after feasting on a lizard that Snowbird caught. Birds chirped all around him and Tallpoppy snored. A mild breeze was in the air, tugging at all the dens. Where is he? He thought, turning around and sticking his head out the den. He looked towards camp entrance, sunlight warming the top of his head. He stuck his head back in and turned back around, spreading apart his paws, sitting back down and lowering his head. A few moments later, a white-and-black tom trudged in.
Rowanclaw’s eyes brightened as he looked up at Blackstar and watched him go to his nest. “First, I need you to practice your power and see the capabilities of it,” Blackstar said.
Rowanclaw nodded in response, biting his lip.
(cats can't bite their lips???)“Second, I need you to inform the rest of the Clan about Russetfur,” Blackstar continued, “she is expecting kits.”
Rowanclaw gasped, blood starting to drip out of his mouth after all that lip-biting. Blackstar paused for a moment. “Your lip is bleeding,” he pointed out.
(I think I called myself out for using that. Also, gasping)Rowanclaw rubbed a paw on his mouth, he took it down and looked at it, a smear of red on it. He shrugged it off with an “Oh” so he could hear more of what Blackstar has to say.
Blackstar stared at Rowanclaw’s eyes and blinked, he blinked back. “I think you should leave,” Blackstar said, so Rowanclaw did.
Chapter Six
~Swankit’s POV~
A thick layer of clouds obscured the sky and drizzled down little specks of rain. Swankit’s shadow was just a blur on the ground. A strong sustained breeze screamed around her. Light flashed many fox-lengths away and thunder boomed. A gale nearly pushed her over, but the cats surrounding her caught her. She had the urge to go into the safe, comfortable, dry nursery. Why didn’t she? Well, Firestar had called a Clan meeting.
(really. Firestar is OOC)“Today, we are going to make three new apprentices,” Firestar announced. “Hollykit, step forwards.” Hollykit beamed as she took one step forwards from the front of the crowd. “Hollykit, you shall be known as Hollypaw until you obtain your medicine cat name. Leafpool will be your mentor, pass on all of your knowledge to this apprentice.”
“I will,” Leafpool said, standing up and walking up next to Hollypaw and touching her nose up to Hollypaw’s. Hollypaw gave off a little squeak in surprise.
“Lionkit, step forwards,” Firestar said as Lionkit squeezed through the crowd. “Lionkit, until you are a warrior, your name shall Lionpaw. Your mentor shall be Brightheart. Brightheart, use all you have learned throughout the seasons and pass it down to Lionpaw.”
“I will!” Brightheart replied, trotting up to Lionpaw. They briskly touched noses.
“Swankit, step forwards,” Firestar said as Swankit shoved everyone out of the way to allow her to come through. “Swankit! You shall be known as Swanpaw and your mentor shall be Ashfur, as requested by Ashfur.”
(because why not)“Ugh,” Swanpaw mumbled as her pupils pointed to Ashfur, who came dashing to her. Their pelts were now getting bombarded by bigger raindrops. Ashfur touched his nose her nose.
“Swanpaw! Lionpaw! Hollypaw! Swanpaw! Lionpaw! Hollypaw!” The Clan chanted.
“Clan dismissed!” Firestar concluded. Cats started to enter the dens, one by one. Hollypaw followed Leafpool into the medicine den.
“I’ll show you the territory later,” Swanpaw overheard Brightheart tell Lionpaw.
“Let’s go see the territory!” Ashfur said, hopping up and down and looking at Swanpaw.
(ugh, I hate how I wrote Ashfur in this story.)“Can’t we go out after it stops raining?” She objected, rain was pounding against her pelt now, making it dark.
Ashfur stopped for a second, “Alright.” He dipped his head and turned away, starting to walk.
“Thank you,” Swanpaw turned around as well and crawled through a bush that hid a cave in the massive gray cliff that loomed above camp. She went inside, expecting to see an inky-black darkness at seemed to go on forever at the end of the cave and tall, ragged walls that closes in on the cave like a cage. Instead, she saw a short cave with smooth walls that curved into a circle. The roof was a bit lower than she expected. She could hear strong, high-pitched gales coming from the outside and heavy rain crashing against solid objects.
Her soggy pelt dripped onto the cold stone floor as she surveyed the den with her eyes. Mousepaw, Hazelpaw, Berrypaw and Lionpaw shot around a piece of moss while Honeypaw and Cinderpaw talked with one another. Swanpaw counted the amount of nests, eight. She briskly walked to Honeypaw with a swift question, “Where is an open nest?”
Honeypaw paused for a moment and glanced around, she pointed her tail to a nest in the far corner. “I think that one is open.”
Swanpaw looked towards it. The nest was neat and dry. With a nod, she started to walk towards it. She came over a nest, dampening the bedding. Suddenly, Berrypaw, who was coincidentally looking at Swanpaw, stormed over to her and shot his stubby tail up. “Don’t make my nest wet!” The rest of the apprentices went soundless and stared at them.
(dude, calm down)Swanpaw stared at Berrypaw for a few heartbeats before continuing to go to her nest. Berrypaw took a step in front of her, but Swanpaw just walked to the side of him and came to her nest. She laid down, tucking her paws underneath her body, and looked at the others.
Berrypaw, who moved his stubby tail as low as he could and lowered his ears, started to whine, “Now my fur is going to be all wrinkled!”
(i've already described his tail as stubby. Why did I do it again?)“Excuse me,” Honeypaw said to Poppypaw before scooting over to Berrypaw. He only glanced at her for a second before looking down. She pressed up against him, licked his ear and purred.
“It isn’t a big problem,” Swanpaw spoke with a roll of her eyes.
Berrypaw glanced at her before leaving Honeypaw, who swerved her ears backwards and thumped her paws back to Poppypaw. A while later, the wind started to die down and rain turned to drizzles. The sun peeked out from behind the thick thunderclouds that used to obscure the sky, though there was a thin haze. Poppypaw and Honeypaw were the first two apprentices to go out of the den.
Swanpaw’s paws became wet and muddy the moment she went outside. Sunlight blinded her eyes as a sharp stick rubbed against her flank. She jerked back and hissed and swiped at the stick. She looked around, noticing all of the sticks littered around camp. She cocked her head and sat down, her behind and tail turning muddy. A dappled gray shape slipped up to her side.
“Let’s go see the territory,” Ashfur said, nudging Swanpaw, nearly knocking her over. She stationed herself back onto the ground.
Swanpaw nodded, she never minded muddy ground. “Can we see the sky oak first?”
And so they did.
Chapter Seven
~Rowanclaw’s POV~
“Snowbird! Snowbird!” Rowanclaw screeched as he scrabbled up to the white she-cat. He tended to get excited at news, especially gossip.
Snowbird, who was calmly licking her leg after dropping off some prey, jumped up in surprise. “What?”
“I heard some news!” He shouted, “Russetfur is expecting!”
(strongly dislike. Russetfur does NOT need kits)Snowbird blinked, “Why are you telling me?”
(important fact to note: Snowbird is a young warrior. Apparently, she's a little younger than Rowanclaw. I thought Rowanclaw was an apprentice in TNP)“Blackstar told me to inform the Clan about that fact.”
“How do you know that ‘the Clan’ is not a cat?”
(that makes zero sense)Rowanclaw paused for a moment, “uhm.”
“Don’t think about it.” Snowbird stood up and walked away.
Rowanclaw looked around. Seeing no one, he looked back onto the imaginary list that Blackstar put into his mind. The next item was to practice his power. He put down his ears and pouted. He walked out of camp, passing by Russetfur on the way out. He turned away from the lake that the entrance of ShadowClan camp was pointed to and walked. He saw a flash of white dash across the forest floor, assuming that it was Snowbird, he continued walking. A while later, he crossed the ShadowClan border.
He glanced around and sighed. He imagined himself looking like Snowbird, anxiety filling his body. He looked down at his now white paws, calming down a little. He wondered if he could make his pelt green like the leaves, and so he tried. However, nothing happened.
(yeah, he can only change his pelt color to realistic colors)He wondered if he could do dark brown pelts-and black pelts-he chuckled when his pelt turned to dark brown, then to black. He was feeling a bit more comfortable now that no cat has jumped out of the bushes, yet.
“Whoa! That is so cool!” A voice exclaimed. He jumped out of shock and fluffed up his fur. He jerked his head to his side, presuming that the voice emanated from a tansy bush.
(ha ha ha nope)Rowanclaw swished his fluffed-up tail and choked out, “show yourself.” His pelt turned back into its original dark ginger color.
Silence swept over the forest for a second, before a playful mew ended it, “It asked for you.”
A tiny cream tom-kit tumbled out, “Ow! You didn’t have to be so harsh.”
“I did,” a pale tortoiseshell she-cat replied, stepping out from behind him.
Rowanclaw’s fur lowered, though it would have to be patted down by a tongue later, when he saw them.
Two more kits bounded out, a very dark gray tom-kit and a dark gray she-kit. “You smell funny!” The she-kit explained, crinkling up her nose.
“Are you from the Clans?” The gray tom-kit asked.
Ignoring the kits’ comments, Rowanclaw lowered his tail and asked, “Where are your parents?”
They stood silent for a second, as if they didn’t want to answer. “Hunting!” The tortoiseshell answered.
A dark brown tabby tom walked behind the kits and stopped, looking down at them. “Sorry, I-“
Abruptly cutting off him, Rowanclaw yelled enthusiastically. “Toadfoot, we thought you were dead!” Toadfoot had been a warrior of ShadowClan who suddenly disappeared during the night. Everyone assumed he was dead.
Toadfoot looked up at Rowanclaw, “Well- StarClan sent me a sign that told me to leave ShadowClan. I have no clue why, but I followed it anyways.”
(not sure what I was going with this) Rowanclaw cocked his head.
Toadfoot led the four kits away, “Red, Olive, Scorch and Shrew, let’s go.”
Rowanclaw walked away, being confused about what just happened. He crossed the strong-smelling border and went through the nearly silent forest back to the thickets that made up camp.
