So, there is a lot of talk about Ravenwing's omen. There are plenty of theories already, some are really good, like the Dark Forest one. My take on the omen isn't that StarClan was hoping to move the kits to RiverClan or the Dark Forest manipulating everyone behind the scenes but that a certain cat didn't want to be seen as the father of his accidental killer's kits. To me, it makes the most sense that Birchface himself sent the omen because he didn't find it right to be wrongly assumed to be the father. Given his family, I honestly wouldn't put it past him. I have a few reasons as to why and it starts with our favorite-turned-hated cat, Yellowfang.
StarClan has been known to manipulate cats into certain things, some for the greater good, or just because they disagree with the situation. Yellowfang is a perfect example of this. Not only did she manipulate Squirrelflight into taking Leafpool's kits, (which it was for a somewhat good cause, but still pretty dirty) she went ahead and dropped the biggest hint to Jayfeather about his father. While yes, the secret would eventually come out, Yellowfang did make a mess of things. It went on to ruin several lives and damage reputations that needn't be ruined. Given this, I think Birchface sent the omen so he wouldn't be forced into a lie, not for the greater good of the kits, for his own gain.
As for Yellowfang, I know she didn't do the things she did for her own gain, but she did think that the Three should know the truth despite it needing to be a secret. She helped the damage become greater than it could have been. Now, I don't have the books, but I do think she did this because she thought they deserved to know, but she was also wrong in telling them. If Ashfur had revealed the secret, well, he most likely wouldn't have been believed. Considering the cats appeared to have forgotten Leafpool running off with Crowfeather, they wouldn't put two and two together and there could have been counter-arguments to disprove his claim. However, because she gave it away and it went to Hollyleaf, it sent the dominoes toppling down.
Birchface would be angry with Appledusk about his death and knowing about the truth and he being involved in the lie would be enough for him to personally send the omen. We've seen how his sister and father are about his death and later the truth, it wouldn't be so far fetched for him to send it to get the truth out. I do think it was a mix of him wanting the kits in RiverClan because they belonged more there and he being angry over Mapleshade not denying his was the father of the kits.
To me, the omen was just something sent by an angry StarClan cat. Not a true ill intention, but not the best intention, either.
