Because Alderpaw's life ain't angsty enough, that's why.
But seriously, folks, who would you like to see killed off in AVOS? I would like to see Needlepaw killed off because then the forbidden love chain in ThunderClan would end with a bang. And she really grates on my nerves. Also Graystripe, because even though I love him, he's really quite old and has suffered enough. Let him join StarClan, for peanut brittle's sake.

At this point in the story Needlepaw has way too much to offer, and offing her would make as much sense as Petal dying (which did happen, but I think it was a big story-telling mistake).

All of the characters from the original arc and maybe most of the TNP cats, and a FEW from OoTS. like, seriously, we have enough new characters. kill off all the older ones already. the erins have attachment issues.

The older cats mostly. But I don't want to former important characters to have offscreen or otherwise pathetic deaths. Let them go out in a blaze of glory. Similar to how Sandstorm went.

Well, think about it from the erin hunter perspective: if you kill off someone fans like, they'll get upset, and lose money.

Argh. I recall that awful tumblr argument about the ratio of female characters dying vs male. It was very stupid.
Anyways, I do not think Needlepaw will die. The Erins are pretty easy to predict in their stories if you know how they work, and potential female leads do not die very often, unless there is a good reason for it.
Angst is more reserved for love that could have been. I also think Ashfur is holding the rest of the angst with him.
