...i could have swore i replied but i must have been mixing this up with the rp i'm doing with mint i'm late replying to that one too)) broken"You think?" The girl replied as she glanced back toward the window they'd come out of. "And this... this is far from the worst they've done." She watched him cimb down, the corner of her lip twitching up slightly when he scrambled out of the bushes, then jumped down after him, the weight of her backpack causing her to stumble when she landed. "You alright?" she asked as she slipped the bag off and opened it. It was too late to go back now, but she wanted to double check that she had everything anyway. A sort of glowing light came from inside the bag as she dug through it, as if she was holding a flashlight in it, though the light seemed different from the flashlight she'd used earlier, sort of like it was tinted a light green color. "Think that's everything..."

--cato phoenix(Oh don't worry about it! I do that all the time, and besides I think everyone is so busy at the moment.) Damn, she saw. The boy chuckled a little, rubbing the back of his head with a nod. "Yeah I'm fine," he muttered, then looked away from her and towards the house for a moment. He was a little shocked about what the girl had said at first. "So... this isn't the worst they've done? Do I even want to know?" He asked, his gaze resting on her again. Then he noticed the greenish light. He tilted his head to one side, taking a step forward. That was interesting, he never noticed that she had a green flashlight with her. "Oh also, I realized I never caught your name." He offered her a smile.

broken(yeah, i'm really glad i don't have school to worry about right now lol) "Probably not... I'll put it this way, if they'd seen us they'd have tried to kill us," the girl replied, her tone serious as she stood up again and slung her bag over one shoulder. She glanced at the House again, windows blown out, flames lapping at the roof. She was glad that she'd returned when she had, if she'd waited any longer it would have been too late. Glancing at him again, she hesitated to answer. It had been been quite awhile since she'd told anyone her name. She considered giving a fake name, but she didn't know what to use. "A-Arlo," she said finally, "Arlo Crimson." The name had been on the back of the picture she'd found of the little girl and her parents that had been taken on her 10th birthday. Judging by the state the house had been in, the picture had probably been taken shortly before they'd left.

--cato phoenix(Oh wow, well aren't you lucky? lol I wish I was in the same boat) The boy was completely shocked to hear what she had to say about the people. They were that ruthless? He glanced back at the house for a moment, then back at her. "Well I'm glad you got what you needed in time, and we weren't killed..." He trailed off slightly before taking a few steps away from the house, then glanced around the yard from where he stood. In fact, it probably wasn't the best idea to just be standing here chatting. He didn't know where these people were, who ever they were. "O-oh and I'm Kaelan Diaz, but you can call me Kael for short." He offered her a smile before pointing over his shoulder with his thumb. "If there's nothing else you need to do, I think we should probably get going. I don't know if they're lurking around here or not, but I don't want to find out."

broken I'm back! I had to go to NC because of the hurricane. It's super later and I didn't get much sleep last nnight so hopefully this post makes sense)) Arlo nodded. The main things she'd wanted were the notebook and the maps, but she been able to grab a few other things before they'd escaped out the window. "I'd have preferred if they'd left the house standing but maybe it's better like this," she muttered as she glanced at the burning building again. If the house burned down anything important that she'd missed while searching the secret room would be destroyed. Wrenching her gaze away from the house again, she turned back to Kael and nodded again. "Yeah... They p-probably are still around here somewhere, and there's not really much I can do with the place burning down..." "I'm... sorry you got involved in this mess." Arlo glanced toward the road, thinking. She hadn't planned for something like this. There had been no way for her to know that her old house would be burned down. Usually she'd have left immediately and walked until she found somewhere to stop and start figuring out what she was going to do next, but it was more complicated now. Someone else was involved and she couldn't exactly take off without explaining what was going on, or at least giving him some type of warning. "There's a chance that they didn't see you yet, that you might be safe if you get out of here quickly... But there's also a chance that they were there watching the whole time and saw you helping me get into the house."

--cato phoenixKael stared at her for a moment, frowning. "Well I'm glad you were able to grab something," he muttered, looking away for a minute before looking back at her. "O-oh don't worry about it! Really! It was my decision to come and help you anyway. I don't even know why I did it..." He trailed off slightly with a shrug. "I was mostly curious." "And I don't think I'm going to leave you right after what just happened. I think it'd be best if we probably didn't leave each other, since I think they were probably watching us break into the house." He stared at her, not really sure what else to say. "But if you want, we can go to a safer place for now and figure things out." He mostly just suggested this because he wanted to learn more about her situation.

broken"Well... I guess I can't say much to that since I'd probably do the same thing," Arlo admitted with a slight smile as she looked up at Kael again. It was partially- maybe more than just partially- her own curiosity that had gotten her into the whole mess that had started seven years ago, but still. At his suggestion, she tilted her head slightly. She'd been thinking something more along the lines of him probably wanting to leave the city- or the country- or maybe the whole continent- as soon as possible and at least trying to avoid running into the people who'd started the fire. "I... I appreciate the help and all... But are you sure you want to do that?" she asked finally. "I mean, I'm kind of a magnet for trouble." She nodded her head in the direction of the burning house. "And this isn't quite as... interesting as a lot of stuff that happens around me."

--cato phoenixKaelan blinked a few times, rubbing the back of his head as he glanced at the burning house for a moment. "Eh, yes I'm sure I'd like to help you. Besides, I don't have anyplace to be," he muttered. He looked away from the house and back towards the girl at her comment. How much trouble could she be? Or was she just saying that to try to persuade him not to come with her? Either way, he was sure that it'd still be best for them to stick together. He still didn't know why he wanted to. "Also, I can take care of myself, so you don't have to worry about the trouble."

broken hopefully this post turns out okay, it's 5 am here
Arlo sighed, scanning their surroundings again. She had a feeling that he wasn't going to give up easily- not without an explanation at least, and she couldn't explain it all while they were standing there. It was still possible that there were enemies nearby who could spot them at any minute. "If... you haven't already guessed," she said slowly as her gaze returned to Kaelan. "I don't really have a plan right now- I have no way of knowing what's going to happen, or what exactly we'd run into... But I guess if you really want to..." She twisted the cord of her locket as she spoke, hoping that she wouldn't regret her words. "Alright."

--cato phoenix(Don’t worry, the post it’s fine!) Now that she was acting like this– that just made him want to join her even more. She obviously had an interesting story to tell, and he wanted to know all about it. That is, if she would even be willing to share that kind of information with a stranger. Then, upon the approval, Kaelan smirked. “Yeah, don’t worry! I’ll try my best to help out if something does turn up,” he replied, now glancing around slightly. “And if I cause too much trouble for you, you can always tell me and I’ll leave you alone and never speak to you again.”
