Some parents act very strange in the Warriors series. I believe cats like Leafpool has shown that she loves her children multiple times and so did Sandstorm, but what about others?
For example:
When Feathertail died, Graystripe wailed and said "She was so much like Silverstream!" Now, it could be because he was simply grieving, but it still seems odd how he compared Feather to Silver when they are completely different cats. Gray even stopped visiting Storm after he moved into the mountains. When Storm and Brook lived in ThunderClan during Power of Three, Gray and Storm barely had a father-and-son relationship.
Rainflower instantly pushed her son away the moment he broke his jaw. However we've seen her praising Crookedpaw a few times, but this could also be because maybe she didn't want others to see her as a horrible mother. We saw the love when Rainflower gave birth to them. But did she ever truly love her kits or did she just see the beauty in them, and not for who they truly are?
Tigerstar was furious when his son refused to follow him and even praised Brambleclaw when he killed his brother.
Sometimes I wonder if some parents truly love their children in the Warriors series, or see them as an echo of another cat.

Graystripe didn't love ANY of his children, not storm, not feather, and not the 3B's. I say this because of the reasons u already mentioned, but graystripe only held onto storm and feather because he was so obsessed with silverstream and since silverstream was dead, all he had left of HER was storm and feather, it just doesnt help that feather looked "so much like silverstream." and we already know graystripe doesnt give two bleeps about the 3B's because he takes millie and the 3B's for granted.

Whitewing loved Dovewing and Ivypool. We don't see Birchfall around them very much, though.
Graystripe loved Feathertail and Stormfur to an extent, but not really for them and more for Silverstream. I don't think he really loved Millie or the 3Bs.
Squirrelflight and Bramblestar loved Holly, Lion, and Jay and well as Spark and Alder.
Spiderleg didn't really love his kits, or if he did show love for them, it was off-screen (which is possible as Spiderleg is a background character).
Tigerstar didn't really care about his kits. They were his pawns. And even though Hawkfrost followed him, Tigerstar didn't show much care for him and was proud of Brambleclaw when he killed him.

I believe Graystripe loved Stormfur and Feathertail. Even when they were only tiny scraps of fur he refused to leave them and wanted to be there for them.
And about the whole 3B's thing, and how he wanted to save Millie... I honestly get his reasoning. I've heard of experiences where people have to choose between mothers and children before, and it's a heartbreaking decision that the father has to go through, even if they don't seem to show it. In this case, Graystripe who as plain as day never recovered from Silverstream death- at least fully, or masked it- obviously didn't want to go through the traumatic situation of watching his mate die in front of him again. I really think he wouldn't have been able to handle it, and I really think if Millie died he wouldn't have been able to recover. Graystripe said what he said out of terrible memories coming back to him through Millie having her kits, and I don't think he was thinking clearly.
I'm not saying I approve of what he said, but I do understand that Graystripe has never really been a super stable cat, especially around difficult situations, and Millie having her kits was one examples that showed just how fragile and weak he could get.
As for the 3Bs when they were alive, I honestly don't think there's enough proof to say he didn't love them, and there's plenty of evidence he did. During the WindClan invasion he was guarding the nursery fiercely, asks what he could do when Millie and Briarkit catch greencough, and is extremely depressed the entire time they are sick. When Millie and Briarkit are sent into quarentine out of camp, he has to be restrained by Lionblaze and Hollyleaf and nearly attacks Lionblaze. He's one of the first to the scene to rescue Briarpaw and Longtail, and eagerly tries to rescue Briarpaw. Graystripe continues several times to be with Millie whenever he is mentioned, and often complements her when she does something right.
Yes, Sandstorm did say one time that he tended to be tough on his kits, but really, when Graystripe says this as he becomes an elder:
"Cats of ThunderClan, I'm so glad that I came back to find ThunderClan. I could never have made the journey without Millie, and I was so blessed by StarClan to have a second chance to raise kits. I have lost so many cats who were precious to me, and not a day goes by when I don't think of Silverstream, Feathertail, and Stormfur. But I have no quarrel with StarClan for the path they chose for me, and I'm proud of all my kits. Blossomfall for her courage and skill in battle; Bumblestripe for his loyalty and compassion; and Briarlight for her bravery, her humbling spirit, and her hopefulness. I shall be watching all of you from the elders' den; you can be sure of that."
I think that says enough for me.
I in no way think he's the world's best father, but he's fine in my book according to the evidence I have regarding what we see of him.

We have to understand that parents in the warrior series can't get too attached to their kits, especially considering how they'll be conducting dangerous activities once they hit the apprentice age. That's why most mothers begin distancing themselves from their kits once they're a bit into their apprenticeship. This not only allows the apprentices to learn to depend on themselves, but it also forms a sort of self-defense mechanism for the parents who stop treating then as kits but more as fellow warriors and eventually as equals; this helps prevent utter mental breakdowns that would prevent the cats from continuing their duties in the clan. So it makes sense that most parents seem distant once their kits reach apprenticeship. I'm sure they all care, but they're not used to getting coddled by their parents, so most won't coddle their children.
Graystripe lost Silverstream and Feathertail to tragic circumstances, and Stormfur left to join a far-away tribe. It's not surprising that Graystripe is afraid to make connections. Even if he acts all jokey on the outside, he's still traumatized on the inside. And it doesn't help that one of his daughters just got fatally crippled and is dying slowly, and painfully. But, he loves them all the same. He's just scared for them, and for good reason. Poor thing. His family just has no luck.
Tigerstar seems to have had a soft spot for his kits, but being in the Dark Forest probably cost him all the gentler, kinder emotions he had hidden under that cruel, thirty exterior. But it might be because of the fact that he grew up suffering from his father's actions that he makes an extra effort keeping connected with his kits (and foster-kits). But that's a rare exception in this series. Even Birchfall, while training in the DF w/ Ivypool, only really treated her like a peer, while she still treated him like a father.

Just like in real life, some parents did and some didn't. Moonflower loved Bluestar and Snowfur. Their father? Not so much. Dustpelt has always been a proud and supportive father from what I recall. And Tigerstar had a soft spot, at least for Brambleclaw and Tawnypelt- not to mention Goldenflower who raised the two well enough. Cloudtail and Brightheart are pretty good too.
Oh, who can forget the best parents of them all- Leafstar and Billystorm? But if you haven't read the mangas I suppose you wouldn't know.
