WARNING THERE WILL BE SPOILERS. IF YOU HAVEN'T READ OR FINISHED BRAVELANDS PROCEED WITH CAUTION. I finished Broken Pride today. It was awesome, I loved it. I wasn't expecting the murderer to be Stinger! I thought it was Grub and then Nut. But I never suspected him. I have to admit i was kind of happy when Nut was exiled and Grub died, they were nasty and mean.
Also how could Stinger kill a hyena? Unless he threw the rock or snuck up behind it.
Fleet and his coalition. I know they were the bad guys but I loved them. I'm so glad there was cheetahs in the book. I can't blame them for what they did, Titan is Ruthless, all Fleet wanted was to be able to hunt unhindered.
As for Cunning, he ruined everything! He got what he deserved for ruining Fearless' chance of getting Ruthless back peacefully.
Artfull, egghh I hope she gets what she deserves for blinding Swift. She's deceitfull, mean and traitorous. How could she ever love a brute like Titan!
What will happen with Ruthless when he grows up and realises what his father is really like towards Fearless? Will he become just like his name or will he turn against his father and fight for Fearless? I'm kinda hoping hell become an ally.
That last chapter when Great Mother was murdered! How dare they! I think Titain did it so he could rule over Bravelands. Or maybe the rhinos did it, Stronghide and his crash! It would definitely be the most likley option.
What do you guys think?
Obviosly insert spoiler warnings befor posting.

Okay, so, the first thing I have to say is how good this was. So much better than Seekers and Survivors (imo, don`t hurt me)! Gillian seems like a great writer. I'm surprised she wasn't a Warriors author.
Seemed like an excellent debut to the series. The characters already have better development than Warriors, haha
I love how Fearless developed through the book, becoming more and more - well - fearless. Thorn is a good character, Mud has great personality, the whole Stinger thing was well done..
I like Sky, and her relationship with the others in her group (tribe? pack?) and the Great Mother (who, btw, is a great idea in of herself).
Grub, Nut, and Berry were all great characters. I really like the ranks of baboons. I think that's a smart idea. I remember seeing a documentary on baboons and they talked about how the older females got the best fruits and things from the top of the trees, followed by the older males and then the younger or lower-ranked baboons got the scraps; and this is something used discreetly but well in the book.
Ruthless, Titan, and Artful: again (and I'm saying this a lot) good personality, good character. The cheetahs are good too.
I super enjoyed everything about this book! (If that wasn't already clear.)

Heyyyyyyyy Me tooo!
I think Titan and Artful totally need to die. Like, right now in some horrible way.
Stinger? That was a good one. It totally caught me off guard.
Nut deserved nothing more, even if he didn't TECHNICALLY do a crime or something.
CUNNING DESERVES DEATH.
I like Fleet and his crew.
This is a well put together book. I hope we'll see more good writing in the future.

- Hopefully they will one day. Fearless will get his revenge
- Me too. I never suspected Stinger. He seemed do calm and good natured. I loved how they revealed his betrayal and how he didn't go all evil. His calm, nonchalance made it creepier
- I wonder if we'll see Nut again. Or whether he's already dead
- Yes he does. He ruined everything for Fearless with Fleet and his cheetahs
- Me too I love cheetahs. I kinda wish they wern't evil though and the hyenas, why are they always evil!
- It was. I can't wait for book two. Witch doesn't come out until Next year

I have to admit I do love survivors. i like the writing. It's good when you get to see a character develop and not just suddenly become the hero. I like Sky too. I have a feeling she will replace the Great Mother some day I really liked all the baboons in this book, well except Nut LOL. I didn't know that's actually how baboon ranking worked. I'm not ussually a fan of baboons but I have to admit I like them in this. It will be good to see what happens with Ruthless and his band of traitors and how their characters continue to develop. I really enjoyed it too. I hate that we have to wait 6 months for the second book.

Well, that's the problem with reading a book as soon as it comes out..

You guys are making me want to read this series now.. but I normally wait till the entire series is finished before getting the books. I'm too impatient to wait for every 6 months. It was already hell enough for me to wait for OotS to be fully out.

It's definitely worth it! And it's good because the next VoS book will come out, then BrL, then VoS, then BrL, etc. So you're really only waiting 3 or 4 months between books.

I liked the book, but imo it seemed just like a rip-off of the lion king. wayy not as good as seekers, survivors, and warriors. And I also predicted that stinger would be the murderer, because I read a lot of mysteries and its almost always the one guy that everyone likes. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

VIXENCLAW - Obviously the Erins are not the best writers in the world. Think about Warriors, where the villain is easily, immediately recognizable and obvious... *cough Tigerstar cough*

Honestly I think Survivors and Seekers are the best out of all of the series the Erins try to create. Things weren't so obvious in the books, and the characters in Seekers were very relatable, while Survivors was dramatic and dark.

I totally agree.
For me it goes (1 being best)
1. Seekers 2. Bravelands 3. Warriors 4. Survivors
I've said this before but I honestly didn't like Survivors that much.

I think that Stronghide, the Rhino, killed The Great Mother. Because he was talking about how he believed that it was his turn to take over as The Great Parent. I think that he waited until she was most vulnerable and attacked her.

Haven't read too much of the book just got done reading the first chapter and want to say my heart was pounding through the whole fight scene and the escape scene. Don't know what the rest of the book will be like but for me it seems really good.

Ok I finished the book and I got to say some of it I saw coming but the stuff that i didn't see was surprising. I think stinger had other plans when he ask them to change Thorn opponent from Nut to Mud. He is a bit hard to read though I thought he was too nice and humble. I am wondering who the male lions in the pride are and we still don't know the name of the third lion who showed up with Titan. Anyone else think the Sky is going to replace her grandmother as well?

I believe Stinger switched Nut with Mud because he knew Thorn wouldn't be able to fight or beat Mud, emotionally. He didn't want Thorn to become a Highleaf and challenge his leadership.

I was not sure if that was the reason which is why i did not say anyone else on it but you do make a valid point. I do believe he could have thorn become highleaf though if he was going to make him a vasitle once Fearless left. Thorn is in a spot now where he can easily be watch by Stinger and if he tells everyone about it thorn will get punished as well for getting the poison,

I feel like I'm the only one whose reaction to the book was a resounding "meh". Think I'm just tired of the Erins' overly prose-y writing style. Also, lions don't have knees, so how could our protag crumple at the knees at that one part?

I'm not interested in starting a big argument, but what's wrong with prose? And little mistakes like that always slip through, for any book and any author.

Am I the only one who for a second thought the murder was Stinger before he was revealed? But yeah, I feel like the twist went for the least likely to be a suspect. Being a good person would fit Stinger more. Him being a villain doesn't sit well with me.
