The first thing you notice about this forest is its lushness.
The vivid greenery—from the healthy plants shooting up from the forest floor, to the full leaves fluttering in the passing breeze—surrounds you in a blanket of calm. Birds are chirping merrily overhead in a perpetual song, while snapping branches give evidence of prey scuttling to and fro. This forest is alive! you think in wonder. How did I get so lucky as to stumble upon here, after so many moons of wandering?
Finally, a relaxing place to rest your paws. And to indulge in the abundant prey this paradise offers! You crouch down instinctively as a particularly plump squirrel enters your periphery. “Goodbye, hunger,” you mutter eagerly to yourself, your mouth already beginning to salivate.
You’ve barely taken a pawstep when with a thump, the squirrel is crushed to the ground by a tall, unfamiliar figure. They nip the critter’s neck gracefully, then approach you with the prey in their jaws. You blink, uncertain, at the cat’s confident stride.
“My name is Cherviltail, deputy of VerdantClan,” the cat announces as he draws closer. “And you are a stranger.” His gaze rakes over your scrawny build, betraying none of his thoughts. “Our ranks inhabit this great forest. We thrive in its midst, and in our thanks we give back to the land which our ancestors passed down to us.”
He considers for a moment. “I recognize your potential. I will bring you to Mothstar, who may consider letting you join us, and adapt to our way of life. Otherwise,” he continues seriously, “you will leave immediately.”

♣️ CLAN NEWS ♣️
JUNE 2017 Mothstar returned from a patrol with some bad news - the queen Squirrelpelt was missing among Twoleg scent. A patrol was sent out to find Squirrelpelt. Unfortunately, she was taken away by a monster and the patrol was unsuccessful. Dappledfrost had her kits: Robinkit, Emberkit, and Moonkit!
JULY 2017 - CURRENT MONTH Ruststar, the leader from seasons past, visited Mothstar, Sagegaze, and Rabbitpaw in a shared dream. He revealed a frightening prophecy and warning: "A storm will strike your Clan from the inside and the outside alike. There will be four, from the heart of your Clan, who will make the green grow crimson." Click HERE to view the full prophecy post!
**Four evil, unknown cats are living amidst VerdantClan. They will, as the prophecy forewarned, cause much death and destruction. Due to this knowledge, cats will be overall very hostile, mistrusting, and suspicious toward each other. Friendships, family ties, and romantic relationships will be tested. Conflicts, confrontations, and interrogations will ensue, with cats inevitably stalking and spying on one another. These four cats, roleplayed by different people, are reputable and seem innocent. They can meet only in secret and must split up for fear of being sighted in a "group of four," which would definitely ring alarms with any suspicious cat. They will strike at the time the camp is FLOODED, while VerdantClan cats are desperately trying to salvage what they can and relocate. In the hectic distraction, these cats will reveal themselves, and unleash the horrible onslaught Ruststar apprised.

wow this coding stuff is a lot of effort (I'll probably get too lazy soon lol)
The sun beat down, heavy but thankfully not overbearing. A slight breeze ruffled Thrushface's blue-gray pelt, and she sighed blissfully. "Greenleaf, finally!" she exclaimed triumphantly to the trees, drinking in the rich scents. The forest around her--known for its lush beauty--was chirping and swaying. "...almost as if it's alive," she sung to herself, tail swinging back and forth and she strolled on.
The large she-cat made her way past the largest oak in the forest, and she gazed up at its distant branches. "Hello, oak, top of the morning to you!"
Mottlepaw followed Thrushface at a distance, looking concerned. Of course his real mentor had to be ill, right in the heart of his training. It was nothing serious, but he had to continue his training. As for today and maybe the next, he had been assigned to the most...exuberant...cat in the Clan. She didn't have a horrible personality--as being positive definitely had leverage over negative, but... "I have to wonder if she's really mentor material," he breathed to himself honestly. What if she scared away all the prey in the forest by talking to inanimate objects...?
Just as he said so, the warrior stumbled over one of the great oak's roots. Mottlepaw doubled his pace, catching up to her in a few heartbeats. "Are you okay?"
"Never better!" Thrushface responded without missing a beat, but gave him a strange look. He wondered if she had heard his little previous comment, and immediately regretted saying anything aloud at all. After all, Thrushface had caught a squirrel already, while he'd caught...well, nothing. Shame began to prick at his pelt.
"Maybe...could we split up? We could cover more ground that way," he suggested, a little timidly. "I can go near the stream..." He knew he was better at catching fish than woodland prey.
Thrushface tilted her head for a moment, gazing at him for a few moments with sudden maturity that surprised him. "Alright," she mewed finally, her voice cheerful. "Be safe. I'll check on you in a bit!" With a swish of her tail, she disappeared deeper into the undergrowth.

A rustle from the entrance of the nursery suggested that the Clan's youngest member was awake and ready to play. A blur of brown tabby fur escaped from the heavily guarded den, a puff of giggles and laughter coming from the ball. Following it was a flash of gray, a small his of displeasure as a larger feline slipped out.
"Oakkit," the queen muttered, her tail lashing, "I told you not to leave the nursery just yet! Your fur is a mess!"
The little ball of fluff, the young feline known as Oakkit, let out a huff of exasperation. He looked up at his mom with wide eyes that were starting to deviate from the kit-blue hue to a soft amber. "But, Squirrelpelt, I want to join one of the patrols! Have any been made yet?" Oakkit looked around frantically for any signs of the Clan's deputy or leader. They were bound to be around somewhere, right? Oakkit wanted to go on a hunting patrol or a border patrol with some of the Clan's finest warriors.
A soft sigh came from the kit's mother. Squirrelpelt loved her kit dearly, but he was sometimes way out of paw. It seemed like today was going to be one of his days where he was just as stubborn as his mother. "You're much too young for a patrol right now. When you're older I'm sure Stonestar and Acornfoot will love to have you help on patrols, but you're just a kit. Why not play in the camp?" It would be a lot safer for him if he simply stayed in camp and didn't try to run off on a mock patrol like he had two sunrises before. Squirrelpelt had been beyond herself when she noticed her son had been missing. Luckily a patrol lead by Mallowstem had found him not too far from camp. Squirrelpelt wouldn't know what to do if her son went missing and was never found - he could be a pawful, but he was the love of her life.
Oakkit lashed his tail in annoyance. Why did he have to be so small? He wanted to be a big warrior like Cherviltail or Thrushface. He wanted to be a warrior now and wanted to go on patrols. He huffed, giving up on the patrol for now, but he would soon be at it again, especially when Squirrelpelt was looking away from him.

Mothstar - female - leader - a long-legged dusty brown spotted tabby she-cat with amber eyes. she is stoic and level-headed, able to push aside her own emotions to decide the best for her own clan.
Deadeye - male - warrior - a long-furred black and white tomcat with blind green eyes. he lost his eyesight as a young warrior but has managed to keep up with his tasks despite this. he is a very dedicated warrior with a large heart. he does all he can to provide for his clanmates. before he received a name change, he was known as swallowfur.

okay just disregard the first starter lol I might reuse it later!! I changed my mind I want these two in camp c:<
and I gotta go, thanks for doing this <333333333333 I missed RPing with you so muchhhh night mom
edit: omg even steven xD
Mottlepaw padded into camp, trailing after his temporary mentor. His head was ducked in embarrassment, and he wished no one would pay the duo any mind. A tiny fish hung in his jaws, all that showed for the entire afternoon's hunt. As far as he knew, no other cat even enjoyed fish...! At there was Thrushface padding ahead, laden with prey. As I should be.
The young tom scampered to the fresh-kill pile, depositing the fish and slipping away before (hopefully) any cat could notice. He headed toward the first shelter that came into sight--the nursery--and came face-to-face (or rather, chest-to-face, considering the other cat's size) with Squirrelpelt and her kit.
Mottlepaw did a double take. "Uh, sorry," he apologized to Squirrelpelt, his tone polite. "I was just going to...play with Oakkit!" It was a lie, sure, but he looked kind of creepy almost stepping into the nursery--and he had to have some sort of excuse. "If that's okay," he added as a quick afterthought. He wasn't sure how protective the queens were--there were all new queens since he had been in the nursery himself.
He grinned in a facade of confidence at Oakkit, hoping he'd be responsive to this invitation. "Hey! Want to have an adventure?"
--
After depositing her prey on the fresh-kill pile, Thrushface glanced around camp, frowning uncharacteristically. She had noticed Mottlepaw was acting a little down, and she wanted to encourage him.
Was that him, walking toward the nursery? That's sort of...strange. Unless he's bringing fresh-kill for the queens and kits? He had left empty-pawed, hadn't he, though?
Shaking out her pelt, Thrushface headed toward the nursery, a bounce in her step as usual. "Oh!" she mewed in delight when she saw Squirrelpelt. "How are you? Busy with the little one?" The bluish she-cat glanced over the nursery with affection, recalling her days spent inside. Sometimes she evened volunteered to take care of chores inside the beloved den. She was a seasoned warrior, not an apprentice, sure--but she loved to see the kits and tell them stories, their enthusiasm matched.

ooo camp c;< aww night my child, i missed role-playing with you toooo ;w; the most even of stevens /ovo/ ]
The queen hadn't even noticed the other cat heading her way thanks to her attention all on Oakkit. She jumped back a bit, her fur fluffing out in surprise as Mottlepaw ran into her and almost made her stumble. Small as she was, a surprise attack very easily could knock her down. She knew, however, that the tom meant no harm to her. She smiled softly in greeting, relaxing herself and smoothing her fur back down. There was no sense in snapping at a young apprentice for running into her. She might as well take it in stride as long as he meant no harm to her and her son.
The tabby flicked her tail in a peaceful motion. "No need to apologize, Mottlepaw. We all have our moments." Squirrelpelt's tone was soft. She wasn't angry at Mottlepaw in no way. "Are you?" The queen's whiskers twitched with amusement. "Oakkit will love that. He's full of energy today." It wasn't every day that a cat came to the nursery to play with Oakkit. Most of the Clan would barely even bat an eye at him, and if they did it was to glare and mutter something about his heritage. Squirrelpelt did not have a mate within the Clan and had never been close to a tom during the moons before she fell pregnant. And when she had given birth no tom had been there for her either. The Clan automatically assumed she had mated with a loner passing by. Whether or not it was the truth she would never say, at least not to those she knew would harm her kit if given the chance.
Squirrelpelt perked her ears upward when she noticed another set of paws coming her way. She gave one last glance toward Mottlepaw and Oakkit before turning her attention to see who was approaching. "Ah, Thrushface, hello," the queen greeted with a purr. Thrushface was one of the few cats that still actually talked with Squirrelpelt in a civil manner. She smiled at the mention of her energetic son. "Very busy. He wants to go on a patrol, and he doesn't understand he's much too young for such a task. I pity the cat who mentors him, he'll certainly give them a run for it." A twitch of amusement passed through her whiskers. Squirrelpelt adored her son, but she had to admit that even for a kit he had a lot of energy.
A mrrrow of amusement came from young Oakkit when he noticed a larger tom padding over to him. The apprentice's name flashed through his mind, and he immediately puffed out his chest in hopes of impressing the older cat. "Hiya, Mottlepaw! I was just trying to convince Squirrelpelt to let me go on a patrol. That could be our adventure!" The brown tabby jumped a few times before beginning to run around Mottlepaw with his tail straight up in the air. "I bet you get to go on a lot of patrols. You're so lucky!" Oakkit longed to be an apprentice and then a warrior. He wanted to be like his mom and wanted to be like Mothstar. Oakstar had a nice ring to it, did it not? Yeah, Oakstar! The valiant leader of VerdantClan! The tom leaped forward in excitement at the thought of leading the Clan, his fluffy tail spiking with the excitement.

Oakkit longed to be an apprentice and then a warrior. Mottlepaw relaxed, his earlier worries about his meager offerings to the Clan pushed out of his mind. Squirrelpelt seemed willing enough to let him play with Oakkit, and in the process he had thrown Thrushface off his track! With a discreet glance over his shoulder, he realized the older cat must have followed him to the nursery, but gotten sidetracked by Squirrelpelt. Thank StarClan! I really didn't want her giving me some optimistic consolation for how horrible I was--and in the middle of camp, too.
"A patrol, huh?" he responded, his amber gaze flickering back to the kit as he spoke. "Yeah, patrols are pretty cool!" Except the one he had just returned from, but Oakkit didn't need to know that. "I go on them often," he continued thoughtfully, looking toward the entrance of camp. "Even though they're not always super eventful, it's good to know that you're offering service to the good of the Clan." He glanced suddenly down at the younger tom, suddenly realizing that his keenness to join a patrol could be of danger to him. If he gets out of camp--again--this one will be on me!
"You have to wait till you're a 'paw to start going on patrols," he backtracked gently. "When I was a kit--which wasn't too long ago--that's all I wanted to do, too. But I've seen a fox or two, and I realize all the dangers in the forest would have been a lot more threatening to my safety, had I been as small as you." He flicked his tail-tip at Oakkit's shoulder, a friendly purr showing he meant no offense.
"We can still adventure, though! How about we patrol around camp? We could pretend the warriors are prey and predators." He hoped Oakkit would be down to use his imagination--he wasn't sure what else to offer, but he knew he couldn't take the kit out of camp. His mother was just a few tail-lengths away, after all!
--
Thrushface purred in response to the smaller queen, her whiskers twitching in amusement as Squirrelpelt went on. "I can think of a time, not too long ago, when I was the same way," she mused cheerfully, wrapping her tail around her paws as she settled down beside her friend. "He may be a pawful, but that drive to learn will make him a great warrior someday. And a star apprentice, too."
Truthfully, she'd love to mentor the little tom. She hadn't had a new apprentice in a while--if you didn't count mentoring Mottlepaw for a day--and Oakkit was brimming full with energy! "I wonder who he got that enthusiasm from," she laughed, then trailed off. The blue-gray cat glanced a little uncertainly at her companion, not meaning to bring up her son's parentage--she knew Squirrelflight was sensitive about the issue.

This was his chance, it just had to be! With Mottlepaw at his side he could do all sorts of things. He could go outside and explore the world outside of camp, he could catch a mouse for her mom. He would make her eat it to see how she liked being forced to eat the weird creature. His mom was so mean to him, telling him he was getting too old for milk. As if! A cat could never be too old for milk. So yeah, warriors didn’t drink milk from their mothers anymore, but every cat in the Clan wouldn’t acknowledge Oakkit as a warrior yet anyway, so he was still allowed to drink milk. He wouldn’t give it up until he was a strong warrior!
But asides from drinking milk and eating mice, Oakkit had one thing on his mind - patrolling. He looked up at Mottlepaw with wide, inquisitive eyes, the look of a kit searching for excitement. ”Camp is just so boring! I want to get out there and do something. Squirrelpelt got to go outside the other day without me! She had Deadeye watch me, but he can’t even see!” Even if the tom was completely blind he had made sure Oakkit stayed in camp. Not once did the black and white tom have trouble keeping track of the mischievous little tom. It was a bit upsetting really. Just when Oakkit thought he could sneak out of camp, Deadeye had been there to stop him.
Now Mottlepaw was starting to sound like Deadeye and Squirrelpelt and every other cat out there. ”I don’t want to wait that long! Squirrelpelt still says I’ll be a kit for another three moons. That’s forever!” He was only three moons right now, waiting another three moons would be reliving his boring life all over again! Interest then sparked in his eyes at the mention of foxes. ”What are they like? I bet I could take one on! They’ll call me Foxslayer!” Mothstar would award him with his warrior name early if he went out and brought down a fox all by himself. He would receive a name change to show off his talents. Every fox in the forest would be terrified of him!
While fighting foxes seemed like the better idea to Oakkit, he decided to settle with patrolling in camp. Something told his little kit brain that it was best to accept that then argue with Mottlepaw about how they should go outside to do their patrol. ”Alright, but only if we’re both warriors on a patrol! You can be Mottlepelt, and I’ll be Oakclaw!” With that the little tabby bounded off, headed toward the first den he could find.
--
Despite listening to Thrushface Squirrelpelt always had one ear angled toward Oakkit’s direction. During her time as a mother she had learned how to divide her attention and be able to hone in on more than just one thing around her. She gave a subconscious purr as she heard her son bound off with Mottlepaw, the thought of those two playing with one another melting her heart. Mottlepaw would do well with a friend, Squirrelpelt thought to herself. He was a hard worker yet a bit self-doubting. Perhaps Oakkit’s cheerful spirit would lift Mottlepaw’s own.
Squirrelpelt offered a soft laugh in response to Thrushface’s words. ”It seems like there have been more seasons to count since I was as starry-eyed as a kit,” the queen mewed with a distant tone to her voice. She had been much like her son as a kit if not a bit more reserved. Spunky, she had been spunky, but her energy had a bound unlike Oakkit’s. And while Squirrelpelt couldn’t say she had never tried escaping camp as a kit, she could say she never had dreams as big as Oakkit’s about getting out and patrolling, hunting, and fighting for his Clan. ”His energy will make him a fabulous warrior. The Clan will be proud of him.” There was a very faint undertone to her words as she spoke them. Squirrelpelt knew how suspicious the Clan was of her son. They knew his father wasn’t a Clan cat. Despite this the queen was going to do all she could to help her son achieve his goal as a trusted warrior. He was more than his bloodline. One day the Clan would look past his “impure” blood and see Oakkit as he truly was.
With this already on her mind it was no surprise that the tabby felt her defenses go up when Thrushface mentioned Oakkit’s enthusiasm. The queen felt her ears flatten against her cranium slightly, eyes narrowing. ”His enthusiasm comes from himself. A kit without enthusiasm is most likely a sick one.” Squirrelpelt’s words were harsher than before. She knew she shouldn’t be harsh with Thrushface, but Squirrelpelt couldn’t help it. Her defenses had risen ever since Oakkit had been born and by now growing sharp had become second nature to the queen.

OMG WHEN HE WAS LIKE "AS IF!" I CRIED A LITTLE INSIDE WHAT A BEAN c": Cher Horowitz as a tom kit
"Camp can be pretty boring," Mottlepaw sympathized slowly, wondering if this would work after all. He didn't want to be the cat to convince or restrain Oakkit from exploring beyond the camp boundaries, but... he could relate to the younger cat's frustration. "But three moons will pass before you know it!" He tried to make his tone more optimistic. "Just think of it as just about one more season, instead of three moons. Leaf-fall will be here before you know it! It'll be magical, I promise."
Technically, Mottlepaw had been born at the close of the previous Leaf-fall, so he hadn't exactly left the den and experienced the season himself. But he had heard all about its beauty, and he could only imagine catching stray rust-colored leaves in the wind...
"Oh, foxes?" The mottled tomcat was broken out of his thoughts. "They're vicious! The ones I encountered were two older cubs. Luckily I was on patrol with a bunch of experienced warriors, so I didn't have to do the brunt of the fighting." He licked his chest fur self-consciously. He had been only six or seven moons at that time and nearly apprenticed, so the warriors had shoved him aside and instructed him to take cover. "Wouldn't like to meet them again, though. Imagine what a full-grown one could do!" He shivered. "Good thing we never met the mother--maybe she died." It was unlike mother animals, no matter what kind, to abandon their young unless in a dire situation.
"Okay, Oakclaw," he grinned, stretching out his forelegs. "Let's see if we encounter a full-grown fox! Or a badger!" He followed in pursuit, gazing at the apprentices' den. "I think it's empty," he whispered in an undertone. "But there are some war--I mean, rabbits--outside the warriors' den..." He lowered into a crouch. "Be careful--they're really fast!"
(maybe Deadeye and Mallowstem if you want?)
--
"The Clan will definitely be proud of Oakkit," Thrushface confirmed adamantly, flicking her ears. "A mother's support is one of the most important things for a young cat..." She mewed this softly, straining her memory to recall her own mother's supportive words and kind teachings. She had died when Thrushface was in her late apprenticeship, but Smokefur had been her biggest cheerleader and influence. "...and you're a wonderful mother," she finished.
"Oh!" she mewed in surprise, unable to help it, at Squirrelpelt's harsher tone. "Of course, Squirrelpelt." Thrushface dipped her head sincerely, not fazed at all by the change in the air. The gray she-cat barely let a situation provoke her, and she understood where she went wrong in the conversation. "Look at them go," she purred in amusement, gaze following Oakkit and Mottlepaw. "I haven't seen Mottlepaw around these parts too often, but maybe they'll become bros good friends."

So Mottlepaw did agree. Camp was indeed boring after all if more than one cat agreed. Oakkit nodded, taking this newfound information to heart. Either he had to become an apprentice now or something in camp had to become exciting. After all, playing with Squirrelpelt was only fun for so long. He sighed, soaking in the rest of the other tom's words. "I suppose that makes it seem a bit shorter..." Only one seasoned compared to three moons did make the wait sound more bearable, but Oakkit still knew in the back of his mind that he would have to wait three more moons. Ugh, that was going to take forever! Why couldn't he just be six moons now?
Six moons old... He would be Oakpaw then. He would go out and defend his Clan with his mentor at his side. He would fend off any wily foxes that strayed too close to the VerdantClan border. He would be the hero of his Clan! Oakkit felt his tabby fur fluff out at the thought. He looked up at Mottlepaw with those curious kit eyes. "Oh, Mottlepaw, I'm sure you could have skinned those foxes! If I ever see 'em I'm gonna tear them apart." A growl slipped from the tabby's throat; he pounced forward, stumbling over his companion's paws in a clumsy attempt at a pounce. Instead of feeling embarrassment at his obvious failure Oakkit merely shook it off with a laugh as he got back to his paws.
With mirth already rushing through him, the kit's joy only increased as he heard Mottlepaw use his new warrior name. Oakkit - no, Oakclaw - nodded, a wide grin spreading across his face. "I'll get all those mangy foxes and badgers! I'll chase down all those rabbits," Oakkit promised as he crouched down like he had seen from his mother when she told him stories about her hunts. His was sloppy and off balance but luckily he wasn't chasing real prey.
"Rabbits spotted," Oakkit whispered when the two warriors Deadeye and Mallowstem came into view. "They don't even know we're here, Mottlepelt." Oakkit carefully stepped closer to the two warriors, his amber eyes intently set on the two. Oakkit was still somewhat far away from the two warriors, but a well trained cat would be able to tell that Deadeye had already noticed the two approaching. His senses were extremely sharp, having been like that ever since he had lost his eyesight. But of course, being the kind soul he was, he gave no indication that he knew the two were coming besides a very subtle twitch of the ear.
Oakkit paused in his prowl. He crouched even lower to the ground, rump wriggling as he prepared for a pounce. Within the next few seconds he had propelled himself forward with a fearsome - it would be considered fearsome if one was a tiny worm about to be smushed under the paws of a much larger creature - yowl as he attempted to "catch" Mallowstem.
--
The tabby queen couldn't help but purr as Thrushface mentioned how the Clan would be proud of Oakkit. Squirrelpelt had high hopes for her son. If the Clan could get past their suspicions over him then they would see what a truly amazing warrior he would make for VerdantClan. "That it is. I probably would have been made a warrior late with how stubborn I was if my mother didn't sit me down and talk with me about it." The she-cat's whiskers twitched with amusement as she thought back to her mother Jayflower. Squirrelpelt's mother had been a compassionate permanent queen while she was still alive. She had lived to be quite old, passing away peacefully in her sleep some seasons before Oakkit's birth. Squirrelpelt knew Jayflower had lived a long and wonderful life and it gave her peace to know that one day she would reunite with her mother in StarClan one day.
The tabby snapped away from her thoughts; leaning down she gave her chest fur a few sheepish licks. "You really think so? I try my hardest to be the best mother for my son." Squirrelpelt had dedicated her life to Oakkit the moment she found out she had been expecting kits. She truly understood the ferocity of a mother's love toward her kits.
This ferocity came out when Squirrelpelt felt as if her son was threatened. It could be incredibly harsh at times while more subtle at times. Luckily for Thrushface her anger had been mild and was easily forgotten as the conversation took a wise turn for the better. Squirrelpelt turned her amber gaze to where her son and Mottlepaw were playing. A large smile crossed her muzzle. "They'll be good for one another. I believe Oakkit could get Mottlepaw out of his shell. I've noticed how hard he can be on himself at times... Now that his mentor died not too long ago, I wonder how that will effect Mottlepaw in the long run." The queen couldn't help but worry about the brown and cream tomcat especially now since his mentor joined StarClan not long ago. Perhaps Oakkit would help get Mottlepaw over his self-doubt and subconscious worry, and maybe Mottlepaw could help Oakkit learn how to tame his energy in return.
