I don't think we ever decided on a gender pairing?? unless I'm totally blanking. I assume your character will be male either way given the time period and their proffession. I had a male character in mind but there are female characters that could take his place without much of a bother so whatever you'd prefer is fine with me.

Gabriel Hunter. A well known detective, especially among those in London. Generally a logical, cynical man who was not prone to wild fantasies but rather stuck to the familiar rules of deduction and logic. His only peculiarity, something he kept well hidden from those who hired him, was a belief in - and fear of - the supernatural. Something he would never admit to or talk about, with an origin that nobody knew.
Gabriel was perhaps in his late twenties, early thirties, and he dressed like the kind of respectable gentlemen people would want to hire to solve crimes. He was average height and had pale skin and dark hair which curled slightly at the nape of his neck. He was clean-shaven and had quite a sharp face with strong features, and the most distinctive of these features were his pale blue eyes, which were sharp and intelligent.
And he was now working the case of the century. Jack the Ripper. The mass murderer had been prowling the streets for months and was yet to be caught. Well, Gabriel prided himself on his ability to catch any man who broke the law. And this murderer would be no exception.
This was why he found himself rushing purposefully down a London street in the middle of the night. It had been so late that he had rushed out of his bed and wasn't wearing his usual full suit but instead a much more relaxed version with a few buttons undone and lacking a hat of any sort. He thought it was still good enough to be acceptable for someone pulled out of bed at an ungodly hour and told to rush to a crime scene. This was no time for propriety.

The man currently standing in the middle of the carnage went by Noah. For now, at least. He was impressive, but unremarkable in the end. The kind of man who deserved a second glance but who you'd never remember the next day. He was tall, lean, and fair. His blonde hair, pale skin and green eyes spoke of his Scandinavian heritage but his clothing placed him in England, 1888. His clothing was modern and fit him well.
Up close, he was more than just impressive. He was beautiful. His features were soft, feminine and he was just as focused as his bright eyes implied. He wore a relaxed smile as easily as he wore the hat atop his head and moved with a simple, somehow vague grace. Looking at him, you'd quickly come to the conclusion that he didn't belong anywhere but right here, right now. It didn't matter if he was in a dark alley or an expensively furnished manor, he looked equally at ease anywhere he could be found.
At least, that was usually the case. But every rule has its exceptions, and this was it. He was dressed to impress and the grace remained but standing over the body of yet another dead woman, Noah looked as if he wished nothing more than to escape. He ran a hand through his hair, swallowing hard. It was a horrifying sight, certainly, but he'd never been the type to harbour great sympathy towards humanity. He wasn't so ready to run because it was a corpse. It was the blood that made him queasy, almost as if he were about to vomit.
He forced himself to look over this body, just as he had the ones that came before it, to learn as much as he could before law enforcement arrived and took it away from him forever. He had to solve these murders and it would be difficult if he didn't pull himself together and focus. This was his only chance to do so.
( I couldn't find a way to squeeze it in anywhere, but he's a vampire, just so you know. )

Gabriel was rushing around corners now, almost breaking out into a run. He had to get there as fast as possible. There was always the chance that there was evidence there now that wouldn't be there if he waited even a moment longer.
He turned into an alleyway to find the crime scene. A young woman. Again. And she was very clearly dead, and well beyond saving.
Unfortunately, it was an all too familiar sight. The technique was always the same, too, so looking at this woman brought back flashbacks of every woman who had died before. This was the hardest part of working on this case, Gabriel had come to learn.
That was when he saw a man standing over the body. Very distinctive looking, to be certain, and Gabriel felt that he had seen flashes of this man at some of the crime scenes.
"Stop." he said, firmly "Are you the murderer? I've seen you at some of the crime scenes"
Something about the man made Gabriel's stomach turn, something he couldn't quite put his finger on yet, even as he began to approach the man so as to apprehend him if need be.
He doubted it was actually the man, since he had been present at so many of the scenes - if only for a moment - and if it was actually Jack the Ripper Gabriel suspected this case wouldn't have went on for half as long as it had by this point.

The sound of a voice forced Noah to turn, swearing softly as he did. He should have been listening for the sound of someone approaching. If he hadn't been so preoccupied with the lump writhing in his throat, he'd have been far away from here by now. Alas, he'd been careless, or perhaps simply not present enough, and now he had questions to answer. He swore again, straightening his hat to stall for a few more moments again.
"No," he said, firmly. "Just someone interested in figuring out who is, same as yourself I'd wager." He didn't expect this to be it - surely the real murderer would say the same thing? - but there was no other answer to give but the truth. Attempts to lie would backfire and things looked suspicious enough already. He didn't need to make it any worse. "Do you really believe this man, Jack, they call him, would have evaded capture for so long if he stayed around long enough to see law enforcement arrive?"
He took a step towards the man and away from the body, away from the stench of blood. Not looking at it helped, but he could feel sharp fangs dig into the flesh of his lip still. Having lived as long as he had, you learned to control yourself even in situations such as this one, but he didn't need to tempt fate. That was as much a part of it as focus and will-power.
( so, how are we going to have Gabriel realise what he is? some kind of mishap with the blood seems most obvious, but how would we orchestrate that? )

"You cannot be too careful, sir," Gabriel replied, though he appeared to relax a little "Sometimes the greatest criminals hide right in plain sight, after all."
He took a step closer, though he did not seem suspicious of the other man now, he simply sought to begin to make his way over to the body so he could begin investigating this scene
"My name's Gabriel Hunter, sir. At your service." the man said somewhat absentmindedly as his gaze examined the scene, sharp eyes travelling to every corner of the alleyway to see if he could find any evidence.
He looked at the body, tutting at the sight of the familiar injuries on every woman Jack the Ripper murdered. Oh yes, this was Jack's work all right. He had a...calling card...that was rather difficult to miss and so there was simply no question about it. The murderer was at work again.
It had seemed strange to Gabriel that the other man had wanted to investigate the scene but looked incredibly uncomfortable with it. He wasn't sure what the cause of the other male's discomfort was, but he was certain that if someone did not have the stomach for a crime scene, they should not be trying to crack the case of Jack the Ripper. Strange indeed.

"That's true," Noah agreed, but it came out sounding choked. He hadn't expected Gabriel to approach him and so he'd stepped back which, of course, only brought him closer to the blood. The blood. By all the gods in Asgard, vampires were not cut out to be the solvers of violent crimes. Yet, here he was, determined to be just that. One would think that the centuries would be enough to teach him that he should stop this snooping around. It wasn't as if he had much to learn from it.
"Noah Evans, sir. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance, even if the circumstances are less enjoyable." He managed to form the words, though he was clearly uncomfortable. There was a reason he didn't want people - live people - around when he was surrounded by this much death.
The smell of blood would have been a stench to a human but to him, it was just a sign of food, and fresh food at that. Without even thinking, he glanced back - a mistake. The body was just laying there, practically a slab of meat on a plate. Even those vampires who gave up human blood in favour of animal blood would think him foolish for not taking it. He wanted to take it.
He forced himself to look away and back to Gabriel, eyes wide but pupils narrowed to slits. He recognised these signs but all he could do was step back, and that didn't offer any relief. Unable to contain nature much longer he heard a sharp hiss. His hand flew to cover his mouth and he attempted to feign a cough, hoping it would be enough to fool the other man. He feared it would not be. "My apologies, sir. You know the London air, thick as pitch and greasy, too," he said, careful now to sidestep the body as he began to make his way around and towards Gabriel, hoping for an escape. "I really should be going, I wouldn't want to get your way."

Gabriel had thought it was strange as soon as he saw how narrow the pupils of Noah's eyes had become, and he could feel his heartbeat increasing in a way that he only knew of when he feared that he was dealing with the paranormal. He did not like the idea supernatural creatures, even if there was no evidence that they were real. He felt distrustful of anything with that much power over humans, anything that could do so much damage. He feared them in a way that no man of logic and deduction should.
And then the hiss turned into a cough at the last moment. But Gabriel knew what he had heard, and it was most certainly not a cough. London air indeed. So who, or what, was Noah Evans? Gabriel would be willing to wager there was a touch of the inhuman in Noah, and he wanted to know exactly what it was.
Gabriel stepped in front of the other man so as to try and obstruct his exit from the alleyway. He was not about to let this person...or supernatural creature, as te case may be... leave the alleyway until Gabriel got some answers about this whole thing.
"Wait," he said somewhat casually "My senses do not mistake me, sir. Did you...hiss? What are you, Mr Evans?"
He was sure he was right, for what normal person hissed? What human had pupils that narrowed quite that much? Gabriel was suspicious, which meant that he would not let up until he was satisfied.

Gabriel sounded casual, but Noah knew he wasn't the only one on edge. He searched desperately for a way out, an escape. He felt crowded, cornered and outnumbered. After all, it wasn't just Gabriel working against him here but the body they'd both come to examine. Unfortunately for him, he was pretty fenced in. He could probably grapple his way past the other man without difficulty, but he knew that the moment he made contact he'd have made it all three times as difficult for himself. He'd have to talk his way out.
"Hiss, sir?" he repeated, sounding more strained than ever. He was decently sure he was an octave higher than before. "What a foolish idea. What kind of man hisses?" He realised, a moment too late, that this probably wasn't helping. Not only were his words sharp and elongated, disproving his point, but if someone suspected the supernatural, focusing on humanity or monstrosity was a bad idea. It only made it worse.
He was holding a hand over his mouth and nose now, doing everything he could both to conceal his fangs and to stop the awful, tempting smell from distracting him. Why did this Mr Hunter have to arrive so promptly? Only five more minutes and Noah would have been long gone and saved from all this trouble.
"Please, step back," he pleaded, swallowing down a wave of nausea and closing his eyes to better focus on pulling himself together. "It's just, the smell." He gestured wildly with his free hand but kept his eyes closed and the other hand over the lower portion of his face.
