Sekhmet, goddess of destruction, as she will appear in my upcoming webcomic! The comic is, on one level, very much inspired by Egyptian mythology, and Sekhmet is one of many gods/goddesses set to appear in the story. Sekhmet is a warrior goddess, and is the goddess of destruction - while I have also heard her referred to as the goddess of war, the 'of war' title belongs to someone else in this particular story. Sekhmet herself is particularly fierce, and in the way that I have characterised her, thinks that the solution to every problem is a violent one, nor is she necessarily kind to her mortal host - gods are selfish creatures, and tend to use mortals to their own advantage without giving much of anything in return. I was originally going to give her rounded ears, to match the tufted tail and to fit in with the 'lion-headed goddess' image, but the drawing didn't look right without big pointed ears!
Worldbuilding-wise, the armour she's wearing is fairly typical for a soldier, and is mostly made of a durable leather, though her wrist and shoulder-guards are made of some light metal alloy. The grey material underneath would be made of soft wool to stop the rest of the armour from chafing. Her bow is carved with symbols of power in order to enhance it's accuracy and power. She carries a total of seven arrows, which in the mortal world, are known rather uncreatively as the 'seven arrows of Sekhmet'. There is an actual mythological story about the symbolism of said arrows, but I can't recall it off the top of my head. The feathers in her ear are representative of her skill as a warrior. I can imagine that she'd be able to pick up any weapon and and hold her own in a fight, but she prefers the long-distance range of the bow. Once she runs out of arrows, I imagine she just starts hitting people with it.
This was primarily an exercise in dynamic poses, but was also some practice in digital colouring. I haven't seriously digitally shaded anything in... forever, but I learned a new technique and was experimenting. Some parts turned out well, but I'm not entirely happy with the shading as a whole, but its certainly a step in the right direction. This was drawn on paper, then scanned and lined/coloured in photoshop. Since then, I have learned some new tricks on making smoother, cleaner lines, so I'll have to colour something else soon! It also doesn't help that I coloured this at school, and so used the trackpad instead of my tablet, which was a hassle, but whatever XD
Thanks for viewing, and I hope you enjoyed!
Can you tell I think things through a little too much? XD

I'm really proud of this - I spend two hours just on the sketch, then another several on the colouring. I drew this a few weeks ago, and I wish I still had the time to spend hours drawing XD
It was really fun to draw - I particularly enjoyed working on her armour.

I believe I cover the 'amazing' part last night, but I got to read everything today (when I wasn't asleep in my chair) and I've got to say I love the details in your description. You really thought everything out to make it all seem real. I'm impressed (and suddenly have the urge to actually do passable research for my stories. x.x )
I love the shading you did on her legs/back paws.

Haha, yeah, I get a bit obsessive with my research, but planning an entire world is intense, and requires more research than one might think! It's fun, though, and is an excellent pastime XD Thank you! Funnily enough, thats the shading I'm most happy with!
Ugh, I'm really in the mood for drawing now, but I can't cause I'm so busy! I also ran out of pages in my sketchbook, so I need a new one XD

I love word building, but more hands-on experience is required for some parts of my story. ^^' Got to visit the places that will be featured and such.
I know what you mean. xD I was in the mood to draw all day today, but forgot my sketchbook. I actually just got a new one. Yes awesome birthday present!

World building is so much fun! <3 Yeah, I spend a lot of time outside, really getting a feel for the environments that feature. It helps me in deciding things like outfits, how people move around, etc. etc.
Ugh, I'm jealous XD I'm going to get myself a new one this weekend!

Most of the places I'd like to feature in my story would need me to travel a little. Which I in no way mind, but money would be required. x.x Yeah, I do that when I draw. Really helpful, even though a lot of my characters were shirts with a lot of wrinkles (anatomy, what was that again?)
Yeah, everyone knows what to get Mint for her birthday. xD Books or art supplies. Cool!

I usually carry a notebook with me at all times too, so I can record details of the landscape as I go (its really messy and there is literally no order to it at all, but at this point, it feels like part of who I am, y'know?)
Much appreciated!

I used to live in Brisbane before I moved to California. Oh, cool. I haven't been to Brisbane since I was really young. I'm living in Sydney at the moment, but I'm moving at the end of the year.

I'm trying to get a bit more creative with posing, so this was a little bit of an experiment. I'm glad it turned out so well, and I'm really glad you like it!

From where I'm sitting, and this is cheating since I sit next to the shelf with them all on them, I have 40 notebooks and 3 sketchbooks. Also, for an added cheat, half of those notebooks I haven't looked in for about 4 years. So they sit, collecting dust.
