Silverkit emerged from the forest, aware of Rattlesnake following her. She spotted Snowkit and a she-cat she didn't recognize sitting by the lake, chatting, and she considered greeting them until she heard Rattlesnake laugh at something from behind her. "What are you laughing at?" she asked him quietly, guessing it was probably just a funny looking squirrel in the trees. "Nothing," said Rattlesnake quietly. "Nothing funny at least." He padded forward until he was beside her. His face held a bittersweet smile and his heart wasn't in the conversation. He looked around at the cats and at the she-cat by the lake. "Who is that?" he pointed to the cat she was talking with, not really caring about the answer and just wanting to change the conversation.

"That's Snowkit," Silverkit replied, looking at the she-cat and the kit. "I don't know who's with her," she added. 'Nothing funny at least'? Silverkit pondered Rattlesnake's words, wondering what could be laughed at if it wasn't either funny or mockable. She decided to drop the subject, since Rattlesnake didn't tell her any more.

"Nice catch! You get the honor of first bite." Larkdapple replied. Truthfully she was not particularly eager to try fish, but maybe Snowkit would like it.

Snowkit smiled and bent down to take a bite from the fish. After chewing the fish for a few moments, she screwed up her face from its rubbery taste. "It tastes like... the river," Snowkit mewed, her mouth partly full. "And the mountains," she added with a laugh.

"Oh," said Rattlesnake simply. "Well," he said next. "Do you want to go over and talk with her or continue to camp?" Rattlesnake was a little listless in speech. It was hard to shake the past, it was hard on a normal day. But he tried for Silverkit.

"We can say 'hi' to them first," Silverkit mewed, changing directions to head towards Snowkit. She liked greeting cats: it made her happy. "Hi!" she mewed to the kit as she grew closer.
"Oh, hi," Snowkit replied, looking up from her fish.

"Hi there," Larkdapple said, smiling. She looked around to see if Silverkit was meeting with anyone, or if she was alone.

Rattlesnake followed Silverkit and dipped his head to Larkdapple. "Hello," he said.

"What are you guys doing?" Silverkit asked, glancing at the fish Snowkit was eating with curiosity.

"Hi, I'm Larkdapple." Larkdapple followed Silverkit's gaze to the fish. "We're fishing."

"You're welcome to join us, if that's alright with you, Snowkit," Larkdapple glanced towards her kit.

Snowkit nodded.
Silverkit smiled, and padded over to look at Snowkit's fish.

Rattlesnake felt a bit like an extra. He stood there in embarrassment, wondering what he should do. He shot a wane smile at Larkdapple.

Silverkit stopped by Snowkit. Before giving the fish a curious sniff, she looked back to see that Rattlesnake hadn't moved. She shot him an 'Aren't you coming?' look.

Larkdapple noticed Rattlesnake's weird look. "Hello. Want to try to catch a fish?"

Rattlesnake frowned a little. "Sure. Sorry, I was thinking of something else." He remember a kit, called Puddlekit, who he had fished with a few moons ago. That time the river had been shallow. But the lake was not and Rattlesnake would have to be careful not to fall in. He couldn't swim very well.

Silverkit smiled now that Rattlesnake was coming. She sat down by the water and stared at it, looking for fish, although she didn't really know how to catch any.

"You can't let your shadow fall on the water," said Rattlesnake, looking down, into the lake's clear water. "The fish wont come close enough to catch if it's dark water." He was careful to stand facing the sun, so his shadow fell behind him. "Then it's mostly just waiting from there."

Silverkit smiled, then shifted her position as Rattlesnake had suggested. "You know a lot about fishing," she remarked, an admiring tone in her voice.

"Yah. Me and my group have been everywhere, so we have had to learn to hunt a lot of different types of prey. Fish has been among the type of prey I've had to get a taste for." Rattlesnake wondered if he should tell Silverkit about his groups nomadic ways. They traveled, not out of necessity, but because no one wanted a group that large in their territory.

"I still am. I'm the leader. My followers come from everywhere. Clans, tribes, and twolegplaces. They're from all backgrounds too." Rattlesnake looked out at the lake. He'd lost a few of his cats recently. But he'd gained Dream. Why did his heart have to break to be healed?

Silverkit tilted her head, beginning to grow curious. "What's it like?" she asked, feeling a bit awkward that she'd started a conversation in front of Snowkit and Larkdapple.

Rattlesnake felt not a shred of awkwardness of saying this in front of the two other cats. "We used to be a bit at odds. But now I have Dream as my deputy and he has been the glue that has held my group together. Me and my group...travel a lot. So we get to see many different things. And, some of use, have special powers." Like his own. One of which was to give others the ability to not be hurt in battle. For a price.

"Yah, a little. One cat of mine can control the blood of others. Another knows every piece of information in the world. But most of my cats have the power of invincibility." Like me, he thought.

"We don't fight, not usually," said Rattlesnake, noticing Silverkit shiver. "We usually only use it to fight off badgers or foxes." And that's why I needed Dream, he thought. Because not everyone wants to be as peaceful as me. We have to move rather then fight. We don't have a home, not yet. And not all my cats were okay with that. He frowned grimly.
