Duskstorm purred softly at Dewfern, his gaze soft and thankful. But he was concerned about the state of the king- for him to relinquish his duty in the middle of a trial... Duskstorm released a sigh. To the Tom, all it did was show further weakness.

((Let's get sandstripe OUTTA HERE so then we can have room for a different plot thing))
--Sandstripe
Sandstripe's eyes went wide. "Th-thank you. Thank you, your majesty. All of you, thank you." She bowed to the royal family and to the jury. She was amazed that she hadn't been given a death sentence after her rant against the royal family.
--Thunderheart
"Skysong, if you will please handle this. I have to go check on Stoneheart." Thunderheart ran after his brother, leaving Dewfern behind with the jury. It seemed that he was determined to push his responsibilities onto everyone else.
--Skysong
"Oh . . . all right." The priest cleared her throat and turned to the Jury. "If you will all come with me, please. Let's get this over with." She led Sandstripe and the Jury out into the Grand Hall and toward the entrance. She stood before the gathered crowd and gestured for Sandstripe to come stand beside her.
"Thank you all for your patience," she said. "Sandstripe has been sentenced to banishment. As you all know, this means that she has one day to get as far away from the castle as she can. If she is found in our territory again after one day has passed, she is to be killed on sight. To let her live is considered an act of treason . . . Sandstripe, do you have any parting words?"
Sandstripe took a shaky breath. "Just that . . . I'm sorry I didn't come forward right away. I'm sorry I endangered all of you with my silence. And goodbye. Lighttail," she added, looking up at her former apprentice, "I'm sorry I couldn't have been a better example for you. You and all the herbalists. I'll never forget any of you." She fell silent and looked back at her feet.
Skysong nodded. "Very well. Sandstripe, thank you for your service to the castle. We will all remember the good things you have done for us. Goodbye and good luck."
Sandstripe trembled as she took one last look at the castle cats. She tried to burn the image into her memory. After one more deep breath, she turned around and walked out into the heath. They had given her no food or herbs to take with her; she was left with only her poor survival skills. Maybe there's another band of cats somewhere. If they find out I'm a healer, maybe I can join them, she thought hopefully. But she honestly had no idea what was beyond the heath; she had hardly left the castle in her entire life.
The tip of her tail vanished into the coarse grass, and the traitorous herbalist was gone.
Skysong sighed. "This has been a long and eventful day," she said at length. "I suggest you all go and take some time to process this. If you need guidance, I will be in the Ancestor's Hall." The silvery she-cat jumped down from the entrance and slipped through the crowd, going to do some consulting of her own with the ancestors, hoping that this time she would get some sort of response.

- - Lighttail
Lighttail stared at where her former mentor had disappeared. In spite of the betrayal, she would miss her closest friend. The she-cat sat in the pale green grass, her shoulders slumped and her fluffy tail coiled tightly around her paws. The heavy burden of loss rested on her now as she tried to recognize that she was truly gone forever. Lighttail would just stay here for a bit while the night went on; it simply felt right to honor the herbalist's service to the castle. I'll miss you, Sandstripe.
- - Dewfern
Dewfern followed far behind the jury in silence, stopping at a wall where she could only hear a whisper of Sandstripe's parting words. The jury may have gotten what they wanted, but the hurt and pain inside her from the reminder of her dead family overpowered that her joy. She was about to turn and go up to the Royal Tower, but she figured it would be better to say goodbye to Duskstorm first, since she might not see him again, so she quietly waited for the jury to disband.

Duskstorm walked patiently over to Dewfern, moving to sit down beside her, an air of quiet solemness about him. 'Are you okay, Dewfern?' He softly asked, looking down at the she-cat.

Ripplestorm walked off letting his paws lead the way. He wondered how long this tense peace will last. He was loyal to the king but just maybe he ought to shift his loyalties to the princess.
Adderstripes sighed and headed back to his den to rest.
Littlespring was eager to know what would happen next. Would the king make strict laws or go back to being absent? There was still a chance for a accident.
Rowantooth glances around wondering what everyone was thinking.

Whiteclaw growled. Lucky fox-heart. She better not come back. "Looks like you were right this time." The white tom glanced at Jaystripe icily.
Jaystripe ignored his ill-tempered brother and left him, feeling a strong sense of relief that Sandstripe wasn't killed. Spotting Rowantooth, he decided to go chat with him instead. He seemed a lot more sensible. "Crazy day, huh?"

- - Dewfern
Dewfern nodded at the tom as she approached, slightly lifting the corners of her mouth into a faint smile. "Yes," she answered, then hesitated for a moment. "Well no, but I'll get over it. Her expression became a little more solemn as she tested out the next few words in her mind. "My father is... Well, he's not going to let me down anymore. I mean, I snuck out before, but he's really serious this time, and I know he's not going to listen after this. I'm sorry Duskstorm, but I won't be able to see you again." She sighed and curled her tail around her paws gently, regretting having to tell him this at all. He was truly the first friend she'd had since her brother died, who used to fill that position to the point where Dewfern rarely talked to anyone else.

His fur bristled at the information, a pang of pain stabbing him in the chest. The tip of his tail began to twitch with agitation, and he silently averted his gaze from her, turning his head away. 'Okay, Dewfern.' Was all he could manage, his voice and expression looking very detached. They all leave... sooner or later. They all leave. 'I wish you good health.' He said, moving to stand. 'You should go console your father. He seemed... unhinged.'

(Nooooo Duskstorm! :<)
- - Dewfern
Seeing the hurt in his eyes, Dewfern placed her tail on his back comfortingly like he had during the Rat's Nest incident. "I'm sorry, Duskstorm. I wish it could be different, but I don't know how long it will be until I can come again." The princess stood up as well, looking to the Royal Tower, then back at him. "I'll miss you. I haven't had a friend like you in a long time." She turned and began to pad away, a deep sorrow resting in her chest. These past couple days were just... Awful. Now she would have to go back to the mind-numbing boredom of knowing there was a world out there full of brighter, better things.

(Hey, does anyone wanna rp some chill stuff? That was a lot of drama. XD)
- - Flamewhisker
Flamewhisker watched as the jury padded by with Sandstripe. His first thought was that it was a death march, but when he saw them go to the entrance, he realized the outcome of the trial. Sandstripe was banished, and the threat to the castle was gone. A twinge of sympathy pricked at his heart, but about ninety-nine percent of him was jubilant. The tom happily started to pad up toward the Resting Chambers, on his way for a good night's rest after the long day.
- - Tawnyclaw
Tawnyclaw felt a short feeling of worry wash over her. If this was what happened to traitors, then she wasn't sure how she would feel about overthrowing the king. A sick feeling tickled her stomach as she considered the idea of being banished like Sandstripe. I'll just be careful. Besides. I won't poison anyone like her, she told herself, hardly believing her own words. The she-cat stared through a large window out at the Heath. That, she knew, was not the place for her.

- - Flamewhisker
As he padded through the halls, Flamewhisker spotted the little kit roaming outside the nursery. What was her name... Browny? Brawny..? "Tawny?" he mewed as the name suddenly came to him. "Hi, Tawny. What are doing up so late?" The fluffy tom sat down a few paces away from the kit, his ears perked up and his head tilted in curiousity.

"Oh. I can't say the same for myself. It's been an exhausting couple of days," he meowed quietly, recalling the stress of the past few days. "It must be nice to be a kit." When Flamewhisker remembered his time as an apprentice or his days as a kit, he thought that he was better off now. But lately... He was a little unsure if he'd rather have all this responsibility and worry.

- - Flamewhisker
"Sometimes ignorance is a blessing," he meowed, a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. "Although I see what you mean. It's not really fair that you're by yourself." Flamewhisker looked inside the nursery and noticed the little pile of bed stuffing on the floor. "Do you wanna play with me?" he asked, moving into a small hunting stance and swishing his tail in the air.

- - Flamewhisker
Flamewhisker bounded into the nursery like a kit, going for the bed stuffing. He did a little slide for it, then swiped it up into the air. The tom hit it with his paw to Tawny, his eyes wide and full of excitement. This was just the break he needed after the past couple of days, and he was sure that this kit could use some kind of fun.
