((Yooooo Bloodrose I love your style!! You've got a new follower ;V & thank you guys for liking my indulgent cat drawings lol))
((also oooooooo Greywind called Sandstripe out))
--Stoneheart
Stoneheart listened to Duskstorm and Wolfbite with a stiff posture and slitted eyes. He wasn't pleased to hear such public criticism of the laws that had been in place long before his time, but stayed silent so that he would seem like he was willing to listen.
Upon hearing Greywind's testimony, Stoneheart curled his lip and snarled. He stared hard at Sandstripe, who refused to look at him. So this was the cat who had been his lifelong friend. This was the cat that he had trusted with the care of his family. How did he know that Sandstripe hadn't played a role in the Queen's death? The realization rolled over him and despair outweighed his rage; it was the only thing stopping him from ordering Sandstripe's death on the spot.
--Sandstripe
Sandstripe gaped at Greywind. She honestly had not considered what she had said to the royal guard, but now that she had been exposed for lying in the Ancestor's Hall, in front of the King himself, she knew this was it for her. Stoneheart would never let her live, and even if he could be persuaded to banish her instead, she would either die from predators or Stoneheart would secretly send a party out to hunt her down and kill her. Her heart pounded in her chest and she felt panic overwhelming her again. She must have looked like the guiltiest cat in the world.
--Skysong
Skysong was silent for a moment. "Greywind," she said slowly, "you are saying that Sandstripe herself admitted that her intentions were to murder the King, and then she lied in front of all of us. Sandstripe, is this true?"
--Sandstripe
Sandstripe closed her eyes. "Greywind is telling the truth," she said. For some reason it was easier to phrase it that way than to directly admit she had lied.
--Skysong
Skysong's face became sombre. ". . . Does anyone else have anything they would like to add?" she asked softly.

Rosebriar's eyes were wide. First Sandstripe tried to poison the king and then she lied in front of them all. She was outraged but would never speak up.
Honeyburr blinked in surprise as she watched the trial.

- - Dewfern
"Sandstripe," Dewfern began, knowing full well she wasn't supposed to speak. Her voice was quiet, a steady whisper that she barely felt she could utter. "Did you sabotage my mom and brother's illness?" She didn't check to see if her father was disapproving of her asking, she could guess how he felt, because Dewfern desperately wanted to know this answer. She was unsure that either answer would make her feel better, but the words sort of just floated out.

--Sandstripe
Sandstripe snapped her gaze up to the princess and bristled. "You and your father," she hissed. "You both think that was my fault, don't you? You thought that just because she was the Queen, I should have withheld what little herbs I had left in the dead of winter from the lower ranking cats and used them all on your spoiled family. The rest of the herbalists and I were stretched thin trying to heal everyone who was afflicted, and still your have the gall to accuse me of not doing enough! I didn't kill your precious Queen, but I swear on my Ancestors, I wish that I had! Then I could have saved someone else who deserved it more!"
--Skysong
"Sandstripe, that's enough! That's enough!" Sksyong stepped in front of the herbalist, desperate to diffuse the situation before another fight broke out. "We have heard everything we need to hear. The jury will now discuss what we have heard and decide the fate of the accused. If you are not on the jury, please wait outside and I will call you in once we have reached a conclusion." She took a shaky breath and turned around to rejoin the jury.
--Stoneheart
Stoneheart was silent. His eyes glazed over and he stared straight ahead, but without truly seeing anything. This betrayal had become too much for him to process, and the mention of his dead family members was bringing up emotions that he wasn't equipped to handle in front of a large crowd, so instead he shut down completely.
--Thunderheart
Thunderheart looked anxiously at his brother. Upon recognizing the King's state, he turned to the Jury and took on the temporary role of the leader. "We will listen to what you have to say," he said solemnly. "In the end, Stoneheart will decide Sandstripe's fate--it is his right, considering he was the one who was attacked. However, if we feel that the Jury is swaying in one direction, we will take that into consideration when making our final decision."

Rosebriar stood up. She left as she was asked. She hoped that Sandstripe was punished. There was no respect left for the cat now that she had said what she did.
Honeyburr stood up still processing what had just been said. She looked at Tawnyclaw wondering if she was shocked too.
Basilwhisker walked up to the royals and dipped his head. He was unsure if as a royal guard he should stay with them or leave with everyone else.
Waspbite got up and walked away.

Littlespring was watching the king carefully. She smirked knowing the old fool was out of it. Careful now my dear kind. Letting down your guard is dangerous.
Ripplestorm had a feeling Sandstripe was going to die. At this moment why keep her alive?

- - Dewfern
Dewfern's mouth cracked open slightly as she stared at Sandstripe. That was just... Far worse than what she had expected. Much like her father, the princess was simply unable to process this. Any anger she had felt toward her father washed away, her mind becoming a blank fuzz. Barely able to move, she slowly leaned her shoulder and head into her father's side, taking in his warmth the way she did as a kit. The she-cat rolled her gaze up to the jury, only half-watching to see what they would discuss.
- - Lighttail
Lighttail turned to the others in the jury. "What do you all think? I'm still voting banish," she mewed quietly, trying not to dwell on her recent words. They were in anger, right? They had to be. Sandstripe isn't that stupid. Still.., she thought with a lash of her tail. The fact that she lied is important. We might not be able to stop her execution if the others vote to banish.

"Execute." Ripplestorm said his voice confident. "Justice must be served. Let our ancestors properly punish Sandstripe." He mewed. This may seem harsh but in his eyes this was just. Justice could be cruel and unforgiving.

(Dang, Sandstripe. That just got reeeeeeal.)
- - Flamewhisker
Flamewhisker sort of jumped up and quickly padded out of the hall. Wow. She's insane! I never thought I'd say this, but.., his thoughts trailed off as it disturbed him to even think that he would vote to execute a cat. The orange tom settled on the wall outside of the room, shocked by everything in this trial. He wished he could do something to help, but he knew it wasn't his place. He curled his fluffy tail around his own paws as a silent comfort that everything would be okay, and Sandstripe would just... Vanish.
- - Tawnyclaw
Tawnyclaw followed after Honeyburr, eyes wide. "I can't- I mean-" she stuttered, now outside the room. "She's psychotic! Where does she get the inspiration to be like this?" She meowed, tail flicking back and forth in surprise. She would have never done this. This was so beyond wanting the best for your kingdom. In Tawnyclaw's opinion, this was just some sort of emotional revenge.

Ripplestorm lets out a low growl but doesn't say anything. Killing her was the easiest choice! What if Sandstripe gathered rogues to attack them? Easy now Ripplestorm. Take a breath.

Jaystripe stepped out of the meeting, hoping by his ancestors that Sandstripe wouldn't be killed. Is that what she gets for speaking out against a distrustful leadership? To be fair though, she went a bit overboard... protesting is one thing, showing little to no remorse at the end is another...
"Horrific." Whiteclaw walked up next to his brother, his tail thrashing back and forth. "She has no right to be a herbalist, nor the right to live in this castle. She possessed the knowledge of several dangerous herbs and had the potential to harm anyone with them-"
"She was obviously only angry at the royal family-" Jaystripe tried to but in.
"We are the royal family." Whiteclaw retorted back. "We may not share their blood but as far as I'm concerned, anyone willing to murder them is willing to murder me."

Duskstorm's expression was one of patient calm now, giving away nothing of what he was feeling. 'I will vote to banish.' He spoke up, glancing towards the royals, before turning his head away from them. 'Not that out opinions actually matter. No doubt they have made their decision and are simply trying to gain our favour.' He muttered under his breath. Wolfbite chuckled softly at his observation. 'I vote banish.' He spoke up, glancing around.

- - Lighttail
"Sorry, Ripplestorm," she mewed, turning to him with an apologetic look in her eyes. "But the majority vote is to banish. We should offer this opinion to the king, but I don't know that he'll agree," she added in a hushed whisper. The she-cat looked to the tom for approval for this desicion before beginning to turn back to the priest a couple paces away.

"I wanna eat." Alderstripes mumbled. (XD this old grandpa)

(Greywind, Duskstorm, Lighttail, Ripplestorm, Adderstripes, and Wolfbite. I would add you to the jury, but everyone's wrapping it up. There will definitely be other chances to get in the plot though! )

(We just based it on age within the ranks and if the person was active or not. Although Duskstorm was an exception since he had become sort of an important representative when he shut Thunderheart down and suggested the trial.)

((omg I think I mixed up Ripplestorm and Littlespring in my drawing wow. Sorry about that that's what I get for trying to think at 1 am))
((*throws Stoneheart into the stampede of rats in the rat's nest* long live the king))
--Skysong
"It seems that banishment is the Jury's choice, your majesty." Skysong turned to the royal family. "What is your final verdict?"
--Stoneheart
Stoneheart said nothing. He slowly stood up. "Thunderheart can decide," he muttered. Without another word, he stepped down from the podium and walked out of the Ancestor's Hall, his tail dragging behind him.
--Thunderheart
Thunderheart flinched visibly. "W-wait, Stoneheart, I can't . . ." he looked anxiously at the Jury, then at Dewfern. He moved closer to the young she-cat and whispered, "Dewfern, I can't do this. I can't lead them. We all know that. You're the true heir, whether Stoneheart wants to admit it or not. What do you think we should do?" [/b]

- - Dewfern
Dewfern felt her father's warmth be slowly taken away as he left, the comfort quickly vanishing as another task was presented. "W-what?" The princess turned to Thunderheart, her eyes wide as she considered this. She had been told to do anything but this moments ago. Desperately looking from where Stoneheart had left, then to the jury, she shuddered and coiled her tail tighter around her paws. No, no, no. Do I avenge my family, or obey the jury? Her mind briefly spun as she weighed her options, wanting nothing more than to run after Stoneheart with her tail between her legs. "Um," she started, gazing out at the jury. She was actually about to tell Thunderheart she couldn't when she caught sight of their hopeful, thoughtful faces. She suddenly knew that was something she could never ignore. "Banishment. I'm sorry Sandstripe, but you're banished."

Rosebriar paced outside the hall waiting for the verdict. She watched as Stoneheart left the hall and tilted her head in confusion.
