This is a little place for authors who want to discuss their non cat-related writing. Shadz and I figured that though the community on the WFF is super strong, we needed a place to share any human stories, which are just as important as fanfiction.
Please don't hesitate to jump in and chat! We'd love to build this into a hub for authors of all types to collaborate and encourage each other.

I might as well do this:
CURRENT PROJECTS
Humanizing Clans of the Valley series - > Fate of Fire series I need to decide which one I'll humanize first (which "book" will be the first) I'm pretty sure it will still be Curse. It's a good platform for introducing the series and it has a strong, relateable lead protagonist to get readers invested.
The Forest of Kalmera Need to continue developing the world and characters. I have a couple of stories in my head but have yet to really settle on one and find a plot.

yeeeee this is what I've been wanting to do for sooo long.
Ooh, humanization is so cool. I can't wait to see human Shadowface (Itzala or something like that right? Sorry I can't totally remember)
And yesss, can't wait for the forest of kalmera world to come alive.
I personally have been working on this world for a new novel I may write for Camp NaNo this summer, though idk for sure. So I've already explained the basic plot and stuff about Two Dark Sisters if I can remember, but personally I'm creating several kingdoms. I have most of the notes on paper but I'll try to post some of them on here. The main setting, where my characters are born and raised, is a desert kingdom which I'm super excited about. It actually has reverse sexism, which I'm so hype to explore because it is so different from the modern world.

And also I have character sketches so yayyy. They're not great but they help give me an idea of what the main girls will look like and how to bring them alive.

These all sound super cool and I want to read them - am also jealous of your abilities to plan and sketch ideas out. I get too impatient; I want the end results now lol
Am I allowed to complain about my recent writing endeavors too?

I like how no matter where I go on here looking for stories, the same names pop up, haha I can tell exactly who the dedicated writers are cause they're everywhere and that really inspires me.
But seriously, when I first joined the forums when I was 10 or 11 I wrote constantly. In elementary I'd write science articles about animals for the sake of having something to write. I've happened upon stories I wrote back then and they're bloody good. But I hit some hard times a few years into the forums and I kinda lost my voice and it quite honestly has pissed me off for years that I can't seem to get it back. Cause I have the bEST IDEAS AND I DONT KNOW HOW TO PUT THEM INTO WORDS. That's kinda why I started that writing contest thing (that turned out to be extremely similiar to Tuesday's lol, sorry Tues), I wanted to start reading other people's works and learn about their styles to help me find mine again.
I gotta tell you about these ideas I have so I can get some feedback, but I'm typing my on my phone and it's not cooperating.

YES. PLEASE COMPLAIN AND SHARE EVERYTHING. It's actually inspiring hearing others. x'D ☾ Cʀᴇsᴄᴇɴᴛ ☽ - Reverse sexism? Like the males are more discriminated than the females? (Though if you think about our messed up society both are basically equal, it just feels like females get the worst of it) That would be interesting to explore for sure! In Fate of Fire it's a very male dominated world. Women are expected to stay in the camps, tend to the wounded, care for the children, sew clothes/fix armor. Everything but be warriors basically. There are female warriors (Itzala included) but it's not very common. I haven't quite hammered out all of that yet. I can't sketch humans that well. I did do a simple one for Itzala and her axes. Weapons are fun to draw!

That's so true! I feel like we have a super tight-knot group of writers on the WCRP forums that are super dedicated to writing. I totally understand what you're saying. I've actually myself been super busy and only just a mint or so ago got back into writing a lot. I forgot how much I missed it, but now that I'm back im so motivated. And my advice? Just write, write, write. Don't spend too much time analyzing; that never got me anywhere when O tried doing that. I got too caught up in planning and worrying and never got past that to actually write much. Well, no worries! Just share whenever you feel up to it.

Mm, thats another thing. I'm trying to get back into all the things I lived for before, and drawing was one of them. If you describe your characters to me I'd love to try and sketch them.

I'm at my boyfriends house rn taking advantage of the fact that he's playing VR to sneak on the forums lol. In like an hour I'll be able to talk more in depth and play with sketches. And thank goodness I have the next two days off work. I feel so excited to write and I want to get right on it.

Yeah, I'm ready to dive into that. Yup, this one kingdom is gonna be mainly female dominated based on this hereditary magic system that runs through females. (Or at least one type of magic does that, hehe)
I also have a whole religion I'm trying to plan out, though each kingdom has a different variation of it. I'm going to focus on dualism, one male and one female goddess and they are fighting against each other. This all plays into the reverse sexism.
Ooh, that'll make Itzala all the more unique and exciting then! I'm so ready to see the humanized version of CotV

These are just wip descriptions, but I can give you what I have so far.
So my working name for the main girl Is Vixen. She has fiery reddish hair, pale bit lightly tanned skin. Gray eyes and sticky, muscular build. Not particular pretty, but striking with a pixie nose, high cheekbones and square jaw.
Second is a gal who I have with a working name Lilac. She's albino and has wide set eyes with wavy platinum hair. Her eyes are a purple/blue and she is very willowy and slim. She has an cool, dreamy look to her.
Just some general ideas. I may change them later on but so far what i have.

mmmmmMMMMMMmmMMMMMmMMM I'm gonna (try to) draw your characters - I've got the perfect picture of them in my head.
I've had this idea for a book for a few years and I'm really struggling with it. I came up with it when I had depression, but now that I'm not depressed, I have no idea how to really write it. (Funny how I can struggle with being sad for a few years and then have no idea how to relate to it again after only a few months of being happy.) But uh. I wanted (want) to write a book about a girl, but write it completely from the POVs of the people she passes on the street and her family/friends, their impressions of her. And then (uh, trigger warning here) have her kill herself at the end of the book, and then write a few chapters from her POV to show what she was really feeling and going through. And I want to show how her death affects people.
It's a very real story, but super frustrating to write. I've found that I have one set writing style and I suuuuuck at trying to change it. And for this story to work I need to write from many different POVs with many different voices, but they all sound the same when I try.

Hello Flavors! And hello to you, Brownie. x'D
My story Curse is basically a giant metaphor for my depression. I had depression and now it's gone (I hae relapses here and there but its been very minor). What I'll do is listen to music that has the same feeling as my depression or lyrics that bring those thoughts and feelings back. It's like looking back through a telescope and you have to keep widening the lenses until you get enough to write.
I really like that idea lav! It reminds me a little of 13 reasons why. If you haven't read that book I would do it if I were you.
As for the character's voices, try to give them little quirks or things that make them stand out. Maybe instead of saying hello they say hey or what's up? Maybe they say "you know?" a lot at the end of sentences. Maybe they pick at their nails or have a mask over their face when they are upset.

^^ for making different voices, I just try to give them one very obvious speech (or narration) quirk. Usually after two or three practice paragraphs with that it'll start developing into their own voice. I usually practice a bit first, describing a picture the way they would describe it. Not only how would their sentences be set up and accents/quirks, but also what would they notice? What would they describe in detail and what would they ignore? Do they like the colors more or the objects in it? Things like that only take 15-20 mins but REALLY help give your characters' narration a different style.
also that sounds like an amazing idea. Sad, but very down-to-earth in a way that opens peoples' eyes to the fact that everyone has different struggles and sides that you can't always see on the surface. A great message.

Yeah, I've always leaned towards darker stories because of my inner angst and stuff. I struggle with anxiety and stuff at times, so that tends to bleed into my writing at least part of the time.
Everyone at my school was obsessed with the tv show 13 reasons why for a while. It was the "basic" show to watch, haha. I haven't personally seen or read it.
Yeah, also try to write out each character's personality and backstory. Practice answering questions as if you were them, basic ones like "are you okay?' or "what do you want to eat?". Just stuff like that can give you a glimpse into their head and really differentiate them from each other.

I read 13 Reasons Why during my sophomore year and it actually meant a lot to me back then cause I could relate to it. The tv show is really well done. Only problem with the book is how the tapes points fingers, and I know it's influenced some people to do the same thing when they take their lives.. it's too bad. The point of the book (and the show) was to point out the symptoms and telltale signs of depression and suicidal thoughts.
Yeah, I get little relapses of depression where I'm just sad and things are overwhelming, but things are so much better now. I used to think I'd have depression forever and I feel really lucky to be as happy as I am. Now I'm just trying to find my motivation again.
And Brownie, that'sexactly what I want the point of this story to be. I want to open the eyes of people who have never experienced depression, and I want people to know how their words and actions affect people. I want to point out the signs that are easy to miss. These things have been a major part of my life until recently, and I just want to be able to give it a voice.
Thanks for all the tips guys. I'm gonna need to try them out. I'm such a perfectionist that I struggle with accepting things that I don't think are good. Time to suck it up, lol.

excuse the writing around the edges (those are my character notes) and all the smudges from constant erasing. Sketching is not my greatest talent, i'll have to say, but it's fun.
