~The Rules
1. Follow all forum and ghost rules to a tee.
2. Do not sit here on this main thread and chat all day. For ever chat post you make, you should be making a post on your house, someone else's house, a business, whatever. Just make sure you roleplay as often as you chat.
3. You must manage your supplies appropriately. If your supply list only has one gallon of milk and a cookie listed, don't have your cat magically produce an orange. Likewise, if your cat finishes that gallon of milk, remove it from the list. You can't re-use food or drinks. Also, your cat must have more than three outfits - you don't wear the same clothes over and over and over again day after day, so neither should your cat. Your cat must also have some form of entertainment, whether it be a stack of books or a T.V. Also, make sure you have a realistic amount of food and drinks. One cat can't live off of just a glass of milk and a piece of bread.
4. Be active. If you own a business, we require you to dedicate time to this RP every day unless you are going on vacation or have another REASONABLE excuse. Otherwise, we expect you to be posting at least three ROLEPLAY posts (not chat!) every three days. That may sound like a lot, but it's not. Please tell us if you're going to be away; it's the responsible thing to do. As you all know from ClawClan, I am very strict about activity. I will not hesitate to delete anyone.
6. Don't go around breaking the in-RP rules all of the time. Yes, it's okay for your cat to break curfew or steal a bit. But it's NOT okay for them to do it all the time. If it becomes too persistent, you will be warned. If it continues, you will be suspended from this roleplay.
7. No god-modding, power-playing, meta-gaming, or spot-lighting, although since this isn't a traditional RP this shouldn't be an issue.
8. You may have up to three businesses and two homes max. No exceptions. An extra house costs $10,000. Your first house is free. On the note of businesses, malls, mega-marts, and supercenters are not allowed.
9. You must pay monthly taxes for each house and business you own. Each month, your cat will owe $100 in taxes for each house they own. If they have more than three cats living with them, they will owe an extra $50 every month for every extra cat. Each month, your cat will owe $80 in taxes per business. Your cat is given a week to pay their taxes. If they don't pay their house taxes, they will be evicted to The County Home until they can. If they can't pay their business taxes, they will find their business seized and shut down by the bank.
10. You can have cats move in with you and have children with your partner, but there is a limit of six cats per house. Anything more than that is pushing the limits. Also, understand that a cat moving into your house does NOT make them yours. The person who owns the cat moving in with yours keeps their cat- you just roleplay together on the same thread.
11. While we allow you to break the in-RP rules, things like murder, abduction etc. are extreme and thus not allowed. If it isn't covered below, don't even consider doing it.
~In-RP Rules
1. Curfew must be followed and obeyed by everyone with the exception of cops.
2. Stealing is not allowed under any circumstances.
3. Vandalizing a citizen's house is a no-no.
4. Prank phone calls and chain mail are considered nuisances and are not allowed.
5. Scamming people (such as through mail gimmicks) is not allowed.
~To Join
To join, simply make a topic titled "[Your cat's name's] House ~ Part of It's a Warrior's Life". You don't have to fill it yet- just posting it is enough. Then, post the link on this topic! That's all it takes! By the way- if you're working on your house page, I'd recommend putting "WIP DNP" on your thread, just so you don't get any unwelcome visitors
~Types of Businesses
There are many types of businesses in IaWL. You can make most anything you want, from an amusement park to a music store to a plain convenience store. However, there are a few core types of stores that must be taken care of before the more specific ones. In order to ensure that all cats have access to what they need, we first need established:
~ At least one grocery store.
~ At least two clothing stores.
~ At least one furniture store.
~ At least two entertainment products stores.
If you see that we are currently not meeting this criteria, then you must wait until we do so before you can make a "want" business, such as a pet store or a plants shop.
There are also "official" businesses that are permanent and government-run. Your cat may get a job here, but they may not own an "official" business unless given permission to do so by myself. They are:
~ The bank - Cats can deposit and withdraw money from here.
~ The school - Young cats are educated here. (Will not be opened until we progress a bit into this RP)
~ The police station and county jail - The police officers work from here, and in-RP rulebreakers are held here if necessary.
~Your New Cat's Life - Common Questions Answered
Q: How much food/drinks should my cat consume daily?
A: As much as you would! A cat should have at least one hearty meal a day. And that doesn't mean an apple- that's a snack! A hearty meal would be a sandwich, some soup, or even a complex meal like chicken and dumplings! Whatever you desire. As for drinks, a good rule of thumb is to make sure your cat has at least a glass of something to drink every time you come on.
Q: What is The County Home and how does it work?
A: Basically The County Home is where cats who are unable to properly care for themselves go. This could be because you ran too low on funds or didn't supply your cat with enough food, drinks, entertainment, or clothes. Your cat will stay here until the owners (myself) are satisfied in your cat's ability to care for themselves.
Q: What is the currency used here?
A: USD. If you don't live in the United States, simply use Google for a currency converter to help you know how expensive something is. Everyone here starts with $5,000- that however will quickly disappear as you buy the necessities, so watch out!
Q: How active do I need to be if my cat just gets a job?
A: As active as the business owner says. For business owners, we recommend only making your employees show up for a minimum of a half hour per day. You yourself should be on often too; don't leave the store to be run entirely by your employees!
Q: I'm making a business. What should my hours be?
A: Your hours should not extend into the curfew. If that happens, you risk attracting the attention of the cops and getting your business fined. Generally, you should structure the hours around the times when you're most frequently on. For example, if you're never on the forums in the morning, don't have your business open up at 8:00 A.M. 1:00 P.M. would be a more reasonable time. Remember that everything is in EST, though, so don't get mixed up!
Q: I'm having trouble managing my funds. Tips?
A: Don't blow your cash on stuff you don't need if you don't have a lot. If you don't have a bed yet, don't go and buy a dog. Remember too that a dog has needs- you have to feed it, water it, play with it, and take it to the vet! A bed, on the other hand, doesn't have needs We also require that you list your funds on your house's page, and keep it updated. However, don't hoard your money either- if you aren't spending, someone's not earning. A good rule of thumb is to never allow yourself to accumulate more than $10,000 in funds. Don't lie about your money, though- the cops have sharp eyes and will promptly fine you!
Q: Can I chat at my house, or does it just have to be roleplay?
A: You can chat! However, we'd like to extend a friendly reminder to make sure you still roleplay- this is still an RP! If you think your house is going to be more chat-based than RP-based, please make it in Personal Dens. However, if you don't roleplay at all, we will get after you.
