WELCOME -- HERE'S A SUMMARY OF OUR SWEET LITTLE DEAL
I'm going to come up with a prompt every Sunday.
You have until Saturday to write a short story that relates to it.
Saturday night I'll set up a poll where everybody can vote on their favorites, talk about the stories and give feedback together,
and on Sunday night I'll post the winner and a new prompt.
Every prompt will be a quote, not just a word or an idea, so it's your job to figure out how to write around it.
(Meaning - these stories are your stories! Whether you want to write about warrior cats, high school, or the Marvel Universe, I don't care!)
And we're looking for short stories here, not novels. If it takes too long to read it will be hard to get to everybody's.
(I'd recommend 500 to 1500 words. Feel free to go under or over, but not by too much.)
Overall I will decide who wins (for now) based on how well the story goes with the prompt, depth of characters, originality, etc.
(I'll try to set up a score system so you all know what to expect)
but I want other viewers to be able to vote on what they liked best too.
If this idea becomes popular,
I think it would be fun to come up with awards ::
Maybe hire artists to draw a piece for the winning story,
have a money donation pool throughout the week where winner takes all,
have different awards for crowd favorite and other things.
I'm open to ideas.
I think this could be a great way to find motivation to write,
to share our work with each other,
to get feedback and make friends.
To build a network community of writers all having fun together.
But I can't do this alone.

JUDGING --
Now
since I want this little contest to be a whole group effort
we're gonna do judging a little differently here.
I don't want just one person (meaning me) in charge.
This is how it will go
(at least for now, I'm not sure how well it will work) ::
Submissions close on Saturday night.
Either the same night or the morning after (Sunday)
(remember I've got a personal life too)
I'll create a poll with links to all the stories where people can go to read and vote on their favorite.
Separately, I will have a grading rubric out of 20
(you can find that here).
Those of you who wish to judge,
PM me privately the scores that you think EVERY story should receive.
The final score for a story will be the average of the total of its points.
(If you are confused or have any questions, feel free to ask.)
If you'd like your judgement to be included in the final scoring,
you MUST JUDGE EVERY STORY SUBMITTED,
and you must be able to explain why each score was given.
I want this to be fair.
Lastly,
I will be giving out BONUS POINTS.
If something catches my eye,
if you transition a part of the story nicely,
if I think the beginning or ending is well written,
if one of your characters thinks/says something that's worded nicely,
or if you really make me feel something or laugh out loud,
(etc etc)
that's 1 bonus point each.
I believe this will help point out the writer's strengths and give them credit for things really well done.
And, bonus points are a nice way to avoid ties.
When you PM me your judging scores,
feel free to point out where you believe a bonus point is deserved in a story.
I will always take your thoughts into account.
Also, go ahead an vote for your favorite story without officially judging.
You don't have to do both.
In the end we will have 2 winners -
crowd favorite
and
best written.

(Side note, but if people really are interested in this idea, I might start a blog where we can do this on a bigger scale with more freedom with prizes. Let me know what you guys think.)

I really like this idea, it reminds me of that old writing contest from the last forums. Tuesday I think it was called? Anyway, I just was wondering, do we have to use cat OC's? Or can they be human/dog/whatever?

So I've been thinking about the judging, and I think I've come up with a cool idea. I want everybody to be reading the stories together, not just me.
Saturday night I'll create a poll where everybody can vote on their FAVORITE story. But separately I'll have a rubric, and everybody can PM the scores they think each story deserves to me - there has to be a score for EVERY STORY SUBMITTED - and I'll take the average of all the scores for each story and that will be their final score.
Does that make sense?
I have no idea if this will work, but I think it would be fun to try out for a week or two. What do you guys think? I just want this to be a group effort where everybody can be involved.

I think it's a good idea ^ ^ because every body has different tastes and that'll make it a little more fair (not saying your not fair XD) and like you said it's a good thing to get everyone involved.
