Tom stepped back, staring warily at the woman from the corner of the room. She didn't look dangerous - but this was a classic trick. Get him to trust someone that was in the same situation.

The woman got to her feet, breathing hard and facing the door for a moment before turning to glare at Tom. Her eyes were angry and intense, but also mostly lacking in the usual emotional expression in eyes. She walked towards him and swung in one swift movement, meaning to pin him to the wall.

Tom ducked and rolled out of her way. "Hey! Calm down, I - I'm a prisoner too!"

She didn't listen, but she seemed to have expected his response because instantly turned and grabbed for where he'd gone. Her eyes were full of cold fury, and she didn't seem to see the need to talk to him, at least not before she'd pinned him.

Tom coughed and pried at her fingers that were now clamped around her neck. She was incredibly strong for someone her size, he though dimly as he struggled for air. "If you'll kindly remove your hands from my windpipe, I can explain why I'm here." he gasped.

"Where is the tall woman?" Shaw demanded, loosening her grip only barely to allow him to answer her question. "Don't lie to me, or I will snap your neck faster than a Walking Dead jump scare." She seemed to mean what she said, and her voice matched her deadpan expression.

Tom shook his head, confused, then remembered. The woman who had helped them escape. Maybe that's who she meant? "Brown hair, nasty wound on her throat. Her name was something odd - Twig maybe?" He had no desire to have his spine snapped, and he saw no reason not to tell her what she wanted to know.

"Root." She considered him, not yet releasing him from the wall. "Now. Is she alive?" She stared fiercely at him, ready to kill him if she even thought he was lying.

Tom narrowed his eyes at the woman. "She's your friend?" he asked.

Shaw hardened her grip slightly. "You first." She returned. "Is. Root. Alive?"

Tom's expression was calmer now, more neutral. He had always been fairly good at remaining calm under pressure. "Yes." he said simply.

Shaw released him after another moment of scrutiny, and she turned instead to look around her. "I'm escaping when they feed us." She announced. "I don't really care whether you come or not, so either get ready or don't."

Tom got up. "That's idiotic." he said bluntly. "We don't even know what the system is yet. We should wait, look for a good opportunity."

Shaw raised her eyebrows at him. "I have a system." She answered, holding up a fist to show him. "They carry tranquilizer guns. And they really aren't as good as they think they are. She walked over and flopped down on the floor.

Tom shrugged and sat down on the floor. "Suit yourself."

"What can you tell me about these people?" Shaw asked, glancing at him. She evidently knew she needed more information, but she would never admit it, even though she had known before he'd mentioned it.

"They have an insurmountable advantage in numbers." said Tom. "They have heavy weaponry. The camp is very large and very well-secured."

"Great. I don't suppose you noticed any, you know, weaknesses?" Shaw sounded exasperated with this information.

"Look, I don't know you. I don't know why you're here. You could very well be here to determine whether or not I know how to escape, so I'm not telling you any more."

Shaw eyed him, mildly impressed. "Are you sure you're a civilian?" She asked, eyebrows raised. "Had any combat training?"

Tom narrowed his eyes. "Again with that." he reminded her. "I may or may not have the ability to defeat a set number of guards you send in here, and I don't intend to tell you either way."

"Works for me." Shaw didn't seem to care whether he answered her questions or not. "But when I make a break for it, I'm not circling back to save your tail so you better decide if your coming or not real quick."

"I'll stay right here, thank you." said Tom scathingly.
"Hey you. Muscles." said Dean, approaching James. "Cas says we left your brother back in camp?"
Reese was eyeing the gathering group, torn between staying with Finch and accompanying them.

"You should go with them, Mr. Reese." Finch's voice came from beside Reese, and he seemed to guess what the taller man was thinking. "I'm certain they would welcome the assistance."
"That's right." James was too focused on getting Tom back to pay much attention to his new nickname. "I'm going back for him."

Dean nodded slowly, shrugging. "Now...I'm not too comfy with the idea of working in a team. Honestly, almost everyone I've worked with aside from my brother's either double crossed me or just plain screwed up. It's almost gotten people I care about killed." He tilted his head, sizing him up. All of a sudden, he swung his fist, aiming for James' jaw. Charlie shrieked in surprise from nearby.
Reese nodded. "The Winchesters aren't professionals. I'm not confident they can carry out a rescue like this as well as they think they can. I don't like leaving you alone, though."

James instinctively raised one arm to block the blow, using the other one to push Dean, hopefully all the way down but at least far enough away to figure out what to do next. And Tom said all those wrestling matches made poor TV.
"It's about time you had a new number." Finch answered, a note of fond amusement slipping into his voice. "From what I can tell, they need your help more than I do."

As it happened, James was far stronger than he gave himself credit for. Dean went sprawling in the sand, looking like the nerdy kid at school trying to take on the jocks. He got up, recovering himself, then lunged at James again, determined to make him prove he was capable enough to have on this hunt.
Reese nodded his agreement, narrowing his eyes in disapproval at Dean's bold attempt at testing. "Oh." he said suddenly. "I forgot to mention - I found these back at camp. Charlie rigged their signal so they should work long range." He held out a pair of earpieces and a couple of radios, taking one and offering the other to Finch.

Finch took his, slipping in the earpiece. It felt right in his ear, and somehow that simple change made him feel more confident and in his element. He followed Reese's gaze, frowning at the fight. "I wish they wouldn't do that." He commented.
James was ready this time, and because he had gotten used to hanging out with a lot of rough young men he had done a bit more than watch the fights at times. He made a grab for Dean attempting to lift and toss him.

Dean flew up in the air and went, once again, sprawling on the ground. This time he lay flat on his back, breath knocked straight out of him. Okay, this guy was better than he looked.
Reese grinned as Dean went flying. "It's kind of a rite of acceptance." he explained. "Testing the ropes. It'll probably prevent further conflict later on."

Finch winced, watching the fight progress. "Still, one would hope that could be taken care of in a more civilized way."
James grinned at Dean, making no move to help him, but not continuing to fight either. "Wanna go again? Or can we get back to finding my brother?"
"Dean." Sam arrived at the scene, staring at his winded brother. "What happened?"
