*This is the second book of The Name No One Knows. I suggest reading that before this one.*
Chapter 1-
When I opened my eyes for the first time I looked up to see my mother. Her gold and gray fur soft and smooth. I recognized a few scents around me as well as the sounds. I could finally see what all of it looked like. A few nests over held a pretty white she-cat with almost orange tabby marks. Beside her was a fluffy white tom who's eyes were still closed and a tiny white and orange she-cat.
"Come on Fallingkit. You have to wake up" The other queen nudged her kit and licked frantically while my mother looked away. "Come on" I looked away from the three cats and looked back to my mother.
"Oh! Sunkit's eyes are open." A tall gray tom with silver tabby marks like ripples in a lake approached me and my mother. "Look Dawnspeck, he has my eyes"
Dawnspeck looked up, looking like she was struggling to smile. "Yes. He does. He'll be a handsome tom just like you Ripplefur" The tom's smile and gleaming eyes changed into a worried look.
"Are White and Brightspirit fighting again?" The tom, who I expected was my father, sat down near Dawnspeck and wrapped his tail gently around hers. "We could move you into the warrior's den if you need."
"It's far worse than yelling." She whispered. "White was rambling on about how Fallingkit was from the Dark forest and well..." She looked back at the three cats, her eyes dark and tired. Ripplefur stared at the cats as well with a look of grief on his face. After watching Brightspirit's attempts to wake up Fallingkit for awhile, he lightly stepped over to her and whispered something into her ear. The she-cat shook her head and sobbed as the white tom mewed loudly in hunger but his mother ignored him and just sobbed louder. Ripplefur picked up the she-cat and carried her limp body out of the den.
"Where is he taking her?" I asked Dawnspeck and looked back at the weeping queen. "What's wrong?"
"Fallingkit is going to Starclan." Dawnspeck mewed quietly. "She didn't make it" She hesitated before speaking again. "Her father decided it was best to end her pain before it got any worse so she could go to Starclan and be happy." She looked away from me while she answered. "Ghostkit is going to be very lonely without his sister. I want you to be very nice to him okay? Don't let anyone hurt him." Her green eyes looked down at me, pleading. "I want you to get big and strong so his father won't have to do what he did to Fallingkit."
"Alright. I'll be the strongest warrior and become leader so no one will have to do that!" I puffed out my chest and stretched my paws. Dawkspeck smiled at me and nodded before going to talk to Brightspirit. They talked for a long time until the queen had stopped crying, whispered something to my mom, and got up to leave the den, leaving Ghostkit alone with us. She picked the squirming tom over to our nest and licked my forehead. "Ghostkit is going to stay with us for awhile while his mother is gone" Dawnspeck told me. But moons went by and Brightspirit never came back.
Chapter 2-
"Come on Ghostkit! Hurry up! I want to go see what Ashpaw learned today!" I impatiently waited for the amber eyed tom to stumble out of the den.
"I'm coming! I'm coming! Don't get your tail in a twist." Ghostkit mewed, sounding like one of the elders. "Dawnspeck insisted on smothering me to death!" He may have acted annoyed but the love in his eyes betrayed his true thoughts. "I keep telling her that she doesn't have to act like my mother but she keeps treating me like she is" Ghostkit trotted over to me with his usually sass.
"Oh look. It's White's kit." Ratpelt, one of the newly made warriors taunted. "How's it feel being the kin of that fleabrain?" The tall and skinny faced gray tom purred and flicked Ghostkit's ear with his tail. Ghostkit's sass and confidence seemed to drain from him at Ratpelt's words.
"Leave him alone Ratpelt!" I squeaked, puffing up. "Ghostkit doesn't need someone always telling him that his worth is based on who his parents were! Our clanmates only tolerate you because you're Lightstar's kit!"
"You're right. And you'd be best to remember who I am little kit because one day i'll be your leader." He smiled a toothy grin and made another harsh comment to Ghostkit before walking off to talk to Nutpaw and Buckpaw.
"Don't mind him. He just picks on others to feed his big ego." I told Ghostkit, wrinkling my nose in disgust. He nodded sadly at me and sighed.
"It's not just Ratpelt though. Most of the clan won't talk to me or spread rumors about me when I pass or even say mean things like he does. I don't think anyone wants me here besides you, Ashpaw, Dawnspeck and Ripplefur and even Ripplefur seems a bit uncomfortable with me." he kicked up some of the dirt with a paw. "I see you and him play fight and when I join in, he stiffens a bit and has an awkward look on his face."
"No. Ripplefur sees you as his own kit! He told me and Dawnspeck so!" I explained. "Sure, he might be a bit wary but that's because he needs to get to know you more. Now come on. Lets go see Ashpaw. Race you there!" I ran, leaving him in a trail of dust and dirt to come and chase me and tackle me like he always does.
Chapter 3-
I struggled to get away from Dawnspeck as she licked me and Ghostkit so our fur was slick. "I'm fine! I'm fine!" I yowled in protest. "I'll be a paw' whether or not my fur is ruffled." Ghostpaw nodded in agreement.
"They're right Dawnspeck. They aren't kits anymore" Ripplefur purred proudly as he saw us. "Come here Ghostkit, Sunkit. It's time to meet your new mentors" The tall river pelted tom scooped us both with his tail and gave us a lick on the head.
"Gross!" Ghostkit purred and batted Ripplefur's ear before standing back on his paws ready to go outside the den. A few she-cats passed the den, scoffed at him and turned up their noses at him. He looked like he was trying to be strong and ignore it but I knew he was hurting a little.
"Ghostkit." Dawnspeck padded up to him. "Don't worry about what they think about you. You'll be a great warrior one day and show them you're just as good as they are." I watched him nod and give her a soft smile.
"That's right. Now, lets head over to the Meeting rock. Lightstar is waiting for us." My father said slightly impatiently.
After we scurried up the rock up to the leader she called the clan for a meeting.
"All cats old enough to catch their own prey, gather around the Meeting rock!" The clan hurried over from all over to watch us become apprentices. I saw Ashpaw in the group and smiled at her. The camp looked so tiny from the large rock and made me feel large and powerful. Ghostkit, on the other hand, looked nervous. "We are here to welcome Sunkit and Ghostkit into the clan as apprentices." Her eyes scanned over to Buckheart and Nutchest. "Buckheart, Nutchest. You may be fairly new warriors but I feel you two would fit these two toms well. Do you accept?"
The two siblings looked at each other before nodding. "We do" Nutchest yowled.
"Sunpaw, Nutchest will be mentoring you and Buckheart will mentor Ghostpaw" Lightstar announced. I blinked and looked at Ghostpaw, a bit worried. Buckheart was part of Ratpelt's little group and didn't approve of him because of his father. Bad luck.
Buckheart walked up silently to Ghostpaw and hesitated to touch noses with him in front of his buddies. Nutchest's eyes were full of pride and touched noses with me. Worry bubbled inside me as I saw Buckheart's hateful eyes met Ghostpaw's uncomfortable gaze
This isn't going to end well
Chapter 4-
"No! You're doing it all wrong!" I heard Buckheart hiss from foxlengths away. "You have to stay down wind from your prey you fleabrain!" The brown and cream tom lashed his tail and clawed angrily at the ground. "Do something right for once!"
"S-sorry! I'll try again" The long furred white tom backed away from his mentor when he failed to catch to mouse he was after.
"You better or I'll give you something to be really sorry about" Buckheart muttered under his breath.
"Buckheart! Stop being so harsh to the poor tom. He's doing his best" Nutchest told her brother sternly. "You need to stop taking your anger out on others." Her voice softened slightly and her eyes showed concern. I watched him flick his ear as if you was still frustrated but stopped yelling at my dear friend. "I think now would be a good time to take a break" She smiled at me and nodded, giving me to go ahead to pad over to Ghostpaw.
"Are you doing okay?" I asked. "That tom always seems to have a furball stuck in his throat" I purred jokingly and nudged Ghostpaw.
"Yeah. I'm fine. Just a bit... disappointed I guess." His tail and ears drooped and seemed to be as low as his spirit.
"Hey, don't let him just you down." I crept closer to him and whispered in his ear. "I heard he's only so hot tempered because his father is a kittypet" a lame smile spread across his face and he turned to face me. His nose touched mine which made me feel a bit flustered.
"Well my father's a rouge and I didn't turn out that rude. Seems like he has the blood of an angry fox rather than a fat, happy, kittypet!" His sass returned and made me smile.
"We should get some freshkill before we train some more. Besides, I can tell you the gossip I heard about how Nutchest might have a thing for a Shadowclan warrior!" When I said that, his amber eyes started to shine again and we headed out to the freshkill pile to share tongues.
Chapter 5-
"Sunpaw!" Ashpaw yowled and tackled me making the two of us roll in the dirt.
"Hey! My fur just got clean you fuzzball!" I purred and batted her ears. "Now I have dirt everywhere!"
"You can clean it later. I have something to show you!" She said excitedly.
"Alright. Just let my get Ghostpaw and we can go" I got up onto my paws and shook the dust from my fur. "I'm sure he'd like to see what you have to show."
"Um. I kind of hoped we'd go alone." The little gray she-cat looked over at a group of our clanmates sharing rumors as they always do. "No offence, but I don't want to be an outcast because I hang out with him" I listened to the she-cat, angry bubbling inside me.
"Am I an outcast then? Just because I stand up for someone I love makes me weird?" I lashed my tail and glared at her. "Suppose I was like Ghostpaw and you cared about me. Would you abandon me because of the way I was? Because I could never do that." My fur puffed up at the thought of being abandoned.
"Of course not Sunpaw!" She hesitated and took a step forward. "You're so social and nice and happy and you don't scream nonsense every night. Ghostpaw is moody and keeps to himself all the time"
"I'll tell you a secret. The ones who smile the most and laugh with others are usually to most lonely, sad, and angry. If you look down upon someone who shuts himself away and call him a coward, then you are looking down at me more because i'm too much of a coward to be okay with being alone" She stood there in silence and looked down. Her eyes held uncertainty and helplessness. "Would you still like me if I saw things others couldn't? Would you still like me if I was living a nightmare everyday of my life and not getting the understanding and comfort I needed and only got laughs and rumors and loneliness? Because that Is what he's dealing with. If someone I love is suffering, I won't leave them. I'd do whatever it took to help them even if it meant throwing my life away or becoming someone others hated. Would you do that for me Ashpaw?"
"I..." She stared at me, eyes wide with fear and confusion. She opened her month to speak but soon closed it.
"That's what I thought" I turned away and headed back to the lonesome Ghostpaw and sat down next to him, pressing my body to his. He looked up at me and smiled.
"You shouldn't be so harsh with her or you'll drive her away from you" The white tom mewed.
"I don't need her." I mewed. "I have you. I don't need anyone else." I rested my tail on his back. He blushed and looked away. I knew how he felt about me. I wasn't a brother to him and he saw me slightly more than a friend. His eyes reflected the same look Ashpaw gave me but I knew if he was my mate, the clan would treat him worse than they already did. I looked away and sighed. I liked him that way too but I didn't want to bring him anymore pain. I'd do anything for him. Even if I had to throw away my feelings for him.
Chapter 6-
"Sunpaw! Hurry up and get over here! we're going to go on patrol" Nutchest's voice sounded rash. "We were suppose to go at dawn!"
"Okay okay! I'm going!" I padded up to her and let out a large yawn. She stared at me and turned away, giggling. "What? What's wrong?" I asked. "Do I have a leaf stuck to my tail or something?"
"No no. It's just your fur. It's all ruffled. I'm just so use to seeing you all nice and neat" She purred. I blushed and worked on flattening down my pelt before anyone else could see it.
"Oh, Nutchest? Is it alright If I ask Ghostpaw to come with?" I asked excitedly.
"I don't see why not" She answered. " We're leaving at sunhigh tomorrow because some tom couldn't get out of his nest this morning." She purred and then nodded, giving me my signal to go. I ran back into our den.
"Ghostpaw!" I yowled. "I heard that you and I are going on border patrol at sunrise!" I sat by the white tom and purred happily. "This will be the first time in a long time that we're working together. Maybe we'll fight some ShadowClan foxhearts and get our warrior names!" Ghostpaw looked over his shoulder and gave a hard look at a tree but then turned back to me.
"You asked for me to go on patrol with you, didn't you?" He mewed coldly. I looked at the ground and shuffled my paws
"Well, yes." I said uncomfortably. "But that shouldn't mean anything." He rested his tail on my shoulder.
"It doesn't." He told me and smiled. "It only means I have to work even harder to be noticed. It shouldn't be a big deal."
"I'm sure you'll get noticed soon." I smiled back and nuzzled him before leaving to go talk to Nutchest. Before I was out of earshot, I heard him mumble something to himself.
Chapter 7-
I was curled up in Ghostpaw's nest when I woke up. I quickly nudged him awake and hurried over to Nutchest to go on patrol. I bounced, excited to be training with Ghostpaw once more.
"I can't wait to get my paws on some ShadowClan cats!" I purred. "They won't know what hit them!" I looked over at my friend eagerly
"Now, now Sunpaw," Nutchest nagged, "we don't want to spill blood if we can avoid it. We don't want to start a war between our clans. We just want to make sure they stop taking our herbs," I rolled my eyes while she continued to ruin my fun.
I looked at the ground and worked my claws on the dirt, annoyed at my mentor for making me look like a kit in front of everyone.
We trotted into Shadowclan's territory and I scrunched up my face when the mud and pine got stuck in between my paws. Ghostpaw stopped and stared at a small holly bush, ears perked. It always seemed like he had incredible hearing and he didn't even notice his skill.
"Stop right there, ThunderClan," a low growl seeped from the bush. A large, dark, grey tom stalked out from the bushes. His muscles rippled through his short pelt as he walked and his amber eyes were filled with anger.
I stared at the tom, trying to see if I'd be able to take him on If I needed to.
"I know why you're here," he hissed, circling us, "we need the herbs more than you, so let us continue to gather them, or get clawed trying to take them from us."
"Raggedstorm, you could have just asked, but instead you came into our land and stole from us. I won't stand that," Nutchest hissed back. She talked big but I doubt she could back it up. I stood tall, letting him know I was ready for a fight.
Ghostpaw slid his claws out too and stood next to me, his tail lashing.
Raggedstorm bared his teeth at the she-cat, but backed away. "I was told not to get in a fight so..." the tom bounded into the holly, only to drag out a bundle of catmint, "I'll give you this much for now. Volestar will talk to Lightstar at the gathering about doing an exchange."
Nutchest looked at the tom in confusion, but accepted the herbs. "Sounds fair. I guess I will see you then," she picked up the bundle that Raggedstorm dropped and turned away to leave. "Oh, and Raggedstorm?"
The tom looked at Nutchest with interest, "Yes?"
"Take care of Drippingrose and your kits. You never know how much time you have until it's up," with those words and a final, curious gaze, the she-cat padded away.
The tom stood there, eyes focused on her. While he stared at her, he seemed lost in another time, perhaps recalling old memories.
It looked like the rumors were true and I started to wonder if the kits Nutchest talked about were actually hers. A slight scent of milk still lingered from her after all.
Chapter 8-
"Please don't tell anyone" My mentor begged me. "I had made a mistake and I don't want the clan to know" Her brown eyes pleaded me.
"I wasn't going to tell Nutchest" I mewed quietly. "And don't call your kits mistakes. I don't think you did anything wrong." The she-cat was shaking from the guilt and pain. "I just wanted to know your story. Don't you think if you're going to mentor me that I should know who you are inside?" She nodded slowly. "What are their names?"
"Dewkit, Acornkit, and Ripplekit." She said slowly. "Two she-cats and a tom" I smiled at her and let her continue. "Raggedstorm and I met at a gathering. It started out as me giving him advice about telling Drippingrose how he felt. We started spending more and more time together and we grew more fond of each other. Soon, he told me he loved me and then I found out I was going to have his kits. He told Drippingrose and she got angry, telling him that he shouldn't be mates with a Thunderclan she-cat. He told me that he couldn't have anything to do with me. I told him I would join Shadowclan but he just shook his head and said that I betrayed my clan enough." She paused for a second to see if I was listening. "He wasn't a bad cat. He just loved Drippingrose a bit more. He would bring me mice and tell me I had to eat well for the kits. I agreed with Drippingrose that It would be best to raise the kits with her own." I nodded and rested my tail on her. She flinched and got up. "Thank you for listening but I have to go hunt with my littermate." She stood there for a bit, hesitated, and then licked my cheek and ran off. Afterwards I headed to my nest to go to sleep.
"I know. And I'm thankful" I heard Ghostpaw mumble
"Ghostpaw?" I woke up and slowly walked over to him. "Why are you up? Who were you talking to?"
"I just had a nightmare."He told me, looking away. "I needed someone to talk to so I guess I ended up talking to myself." I knew he was lying but I didn't have it in my heart to say that to him.
"Oh...well if that's the case, why not sleep in my nest tonight?" I smiled at him, "it might make you feel better."
"Alright," He said with a defeated tone if his voice, "just don't tell the clan that I had to sleep with you like you were my mother."He purred and layed down in my nest, patting it with his tail
I purred too and curled up with him. If only it could be like this every night.
Chapter 9-
"Ghostpaw, wake up." I had been pawing at his face for what seems like forever. "Come on! It's important!" I touched my nose to his and watched the lazy tom open his dull amber eyes. "Lightstar called a meeting." I told the tom. My pelt dripped wet with raindrops and I was prepared to shake my pelt to get him cold and wet too just to be sure he'd get up. After all, He's done it to me before so why not get some revenge?
He got to his paws before I could put my plan into action. "What's it about?" The white cat asked me. He never was much of a morning cat. He always stayed up late, muttering to himself and sometimes even yelling at some moss in the den.
I thought for a bit. "I'm not sure yet. Maybe it's about what Raggedstorm told us yesterday. She might tell us that we're going to fight instead of giving them our catmint."
Ghostpaw shook his head and looked up at me."I doubt that. We have plenty to spare so I'm sure Lightstar doesn't want any bloodshed if she can avoid it."
"That's true, I guess," I mewed softly. If we were going into battle then Lightstar might realize that Ghostpaw deserves to be a warrior.
"Come on. We're gonna miss the meeting." He mewed coldly and started walking away. Something in him has changed and I don't think I like it.
"Let's sit over there by Nutchest and Buckheart," I said excitedly and sat next to the brown and cream she-cat. she smiled brightly at me and greeted me. Although I was happy to see Nutchest, Ghostpaw looked less then thrilled to see Buckheart. The large tom grunted a hello to Ghostpaw and Nutchest nudged him with her paw, clearly annoyed at her brother's behavior. My shy friend scooted away from Buckheart and was closer to me to the point where our pelts were brushing and his head nearly on my shoulder. I looked at the tom and my face turned red. He looked all pouty and adorable. Buckheart stared at us and was about to say something but the meeting had started.
"You have all heard what happened on Shadowclan territory." The overconfident she-cat mewed. "Shadowclan is done stealing our herbs and prey! I will not stand for this. I have decided that if there is a war, we will need more warriors." The leader gave me a nod and my heart started to pound. "Sunpaw, Ghostpaw. Come up here."
I looked over at Nutchest hesitantly. "Do you think I'm ready?" I whispered to her.
"Of course you are. You wouldn't have been made a warrior if you weren't ready." She said proudly and touched my nose with hers. She was so proud you'd think she was my mother instead of Dawnspeck. I looked over to see my friend was already walking up and I quickly stumbled after him.
"These apprentices have waited long and hard for their names. It is time I gave them." She looked down at Nutchest. "Has Sunpaw learned all he could from you?" She purred so loud I'm sure everyone in Riverclan could hear her. She nodded and gave a quick 'Yes.' "And is Ghostpaw worthy of his new name, Buckheart?" I looked over to see how the tom would respond but all he did was nod. I looked over at Ghostpaw and saw sadness form in his eyes. How disappointing. "Then, by the power of Starclan, I give you your warrior names. Sunpaw, Starclan thanks you for your kindness and determination. We welcome you as Sunpelt." I heard all of the clan cheer my name. I looked around for my mother or father but it looked like they were out hunting. "Ghostpaw, your new name will be Ghostsight. We welcome you into the clan." I looked around but the clan was quiet, filling me with rage for my friend. Everyone of them would pay for being so cold. Everyone.
-----------
Chapter 10-
A crowd of my clanmates surrounded me, welcoming me with warm congrats. My mother Dawnspeck padded up and licked the tip of my head.
"I'm so proud of my sons" The old she-cat whispered. "You two have grown up just fine." I looked back at Ghostsight, the tom was alone looking slightly irritated.
"Why don't you go tell Ghostsight that. It looks like he could use it." She stood and stared blankly at me and shook her head.
"He needs to grow strong without my words. I won't be here for long Sunpelt and I don't want him to hurt even more when the one person who acted like they cared dies." She smiled sadly and licked my cheek as my father came to join us. The once handsome tom now had ruffled fur and dull eyes. I couldn't believe I didn't see how old they were getting. He nodded and me and slightly nudged me.
"You know Sunpelt, this was around the age me and your mother became mates." Ripplefur mewed softly. "Maybe it's time you stop worrying so much about Ghostsight and live your own life. You're both warriors now. He needs to find his own path and find his destiny just like you do." He looked over at Ashblossom and then back at me. "I know you've had a thing for a curtain she-cat for awhile now. I think it's time you ask her to be your mate. Otherwise the clan might think you chose Ghostsight instead." He let out a chuckle, not knowing he was so close to the truth.
"Alright alright. If it'll get you two off my back I'll ask." I purred and nudged him back in good humor. "But first I have to go talk to my 'other mate'" My kin laughed and padded off chatting away about the future. "Ghostsight!" The white tom looked up at me and smiled slightly when I nuzzled him. "We finally did it! And you know what? Soon we'll have our first battle as warriors! Shadowclan will whimper in fear of Sunpelt and Ghostsight!" He grinned and nodded.
" I'm sure they'll be frightened by your overwhelming positivite attitude before you could claw them." Ghostsight laughed and flicked my ear. As soon as I opened my mouth to reply, Ashblossom padded up. She slid in beside me and my best friend.
"Sunpelt. It's time we talk." I looked into her pleading eyes and nodded slowly.
"Sure." I whispered back and turned to Ghostsight. "Sorry but I gotta go hunt with Ashblossom. I'll see you later." I saw disappointment I'm his deep amber eyes but reminded myself of what my parents told me. He had to learn to be strong by himself. I repeated that allthe way into the forest, barely listening to what Ashblossom was talking about.
-----------
Chapter 11-
After my chat with Ashblossom about becoming mates, I started to walk back to camp alone as she ran off to spread the news. I listened to the soft ruffle of leafs wondering how my dear friend would take it. He was somewhat of the jealous type after all.
"And after that pipsqueak Ghostsight is gone, my clan won't be a laughingstock." The rough voice of Ratpelt could be heard behind a few holly bushes. "What do you say Buckheart? You know his weaknesses and strengths so it shouldn't be difficult." I flattened my ears and felt my pelt start to rise. The words of my mother pointed in my head. Protect Ghostsight no matter what. No matter the cost. I walked through the bushes, nearly tripping on them.
"Sunpelt! What in Starclans name are you doing here?" Buckheart's voice betrayed his emotions showing surprise and fear. "I thought you went to go talk to Ashblossom." Ratpelt smiled at his pal.
"Obviously he already has a mate Buckheart. He would never cheat on Ghostsight. I bet he and Sunpelt-" the horrible noise of the rat faced tom was replaced by a choking sound as I slide my claws into the toms neck.
"Don't you ever talk about him. Don't ever say his name. I don't care if you die here Ratpelt. You were planning to kill an innocent tom." I narrowed my eyes. "I'm just doing my duty as a good warrior and weaving out the filth of this clan." The choking stopped and the tom fell to the ground, lifelessly. I turned to Buckheart with a murderous look in my eyes. "The same goes to you Buckheart. Mess with Ghostsight and you'll end up like him. Now go tell the clan you two were attacked by a fox and say that I saved you. Or I'll be forced to tell the clan what you planned to do. This was in my friend's defense so Lightstar will side with me. The cream and brown tom nodded and ran off as I wiped the revolving red slime off my paw onto the fur of my enemy.
------------
Chapter 12-
The clan was taken back by the death of Ratpelt and completely bought the story Buckheart told. Lightstar had dragged his body back from camp and thanked me for trying to save him. I put on an act and pretended to be upset.
"He was a good warrior." I said softly. "He may have been a bit feisty, but he was determined" the grieving mother nodded and sat next to the still tom, unable to speak a word. Onepath laid next to her, trying to have her eat some herbs. I padded into the warriors den to see Ghostsight having another one of his talks. There'd be a pause and then an agreement of some sort. I've gotten use to them and a lot of times he didn't seem to notice me. Someone could have clawed him and I'd doubt he'd notice when he was like this. Almost in a trance.
"I heard he's influenced by the Dark Forest. I'd be careful if I were you Sunpelt." Smallweb, a tiny brown tom who was half Riverclan told me. He wasn't the greatest friend but it was nice to talk to him once in awhile.
"I really doubt he is." I told him. "He's just-" I pause to think for a bit. "Special" Smallweb looked at me with worry.
"He argues a lot about becoming leader. Don't you think that means he's planning to kill Lightstar?" The innocent looking tom looked up at me worried. "I know he's your best friend, but I'd still keep an eye on him. Even Dawnspeck thinks he's planning something. In fact, Ripplefur and her are the ones who told me to watch out. I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up killing them" I rolled my eyes.
"That's crazy. Dawnspeck and Ripplefur are practically his kin. He wouldn't do that." I tried telling him he was just being paranoid but the tom kept insisting until he was called away by his mate. The lucky tom was going to be a father again after having Ashblossom.
"Just keep your eyes peeled Sunpelt. I don't want my daughter new mate's future to be ruined by him" and with that he ran to the nursery.
----------
Chapter 13-
"Sunpelt! Come here!" Ashblossom interrupted a conversation I was having with Ghostsight. The pretty she-cat padded up to me and whispered in my ear. "Smallweb's kits are here. Come see them with me" she said excitedly. I nodded and turned to my dear friend.
"Sorry but I have to go. We'll talk after this okay?" I flicked his ear with a paw and the disappointed tom nodded. I turned away and walked next to Ashblossom.
"I wasn't interrupting anything was I?" I hesitated before answering and shook my head.
"No. I was just seeing how Ghostsight was doing. That's all" I assured her. She smiled up at me and purred. Smallweb saw us and rushed over.
"Ashblossom! Come and see your sisters!" The small brown tom said happily. He was about half my size and although he was an okay looking tom, it was surprising that Greyshimmer would agree to be his mate. We headed into the nursery after him to find two tiny kits close to their mother.
"They're so cute!" Ashblossom purred and licked the brown she-cat with a few ripples of greyish silver. "What did you name this one?" She asked her mother.
"That's Seakit and the silver and grey one is Mistykit." Greyshimmer responded tiredly. Ashblossom looked up at me, her blue eyes beaming with joy.
"Wouldn't it be great to have kits?" She asked me. I felt slightly awkward at this situation. I never really wanted kits or even Ashblossom as a mate. But this was all for Ghostsight's safety. If having kits would help him, then I'd have kits. I looked back at the tall grey cat and nodded.
"I think that's be wonderful" When she turned away, I felt my heart somewhat breaking and looked back at the warrior's den. I didn't want this life. I just wanted to be with Ghostsight
Chapter 14-
The full moon was here and it was time for the gathering. I told Ashblossom that I would be mingling at the gathering this time instead of staying by her side the entire time. As we walked to the large tree where we gathered, I padded up to Nutchest and gave her and her brother a smile.
"Oh hi Sunpelt. How long have you been there?" Nutchest asked and looked over at a nervous Buckheart confused. The brown and cream tom seemed to get nervous around me after I killed Ratpelt. I didn't really understand why. He could obviously tell if he kept his muzzle shut that everything would be fine. As long as he did that, I wouldn't hurt him.
"Not long at all." I moved closer to the she-cat and whispered "Are you going to talk to Raggedstorm? Or maybe Drippingrose and the kits?" She looked up at me, her gaze piercing mine, a clear sign she didn't want to talk about it.
"You might not want to stand so close to me. Your mate might get jealous.” Nutchest mewed, avoiding my question. I turned around and saw the she-cat watching me closely.
"Dear Starclan. Will she ever leave me alone?" I muttered. She had been watching me like a hawk and I really didn't appreciate it. After all, She was one of my best friends but I didn't love her as a mate. I'm sure she could tell. I sighed at the thought of how I was. Everyone wanted me to be someone I wasn't. They wanted me to act happy all the time, have a mate and have kits. Now Ashblossom was expecting and her grasp on me has been so tight I could choke. There wasn't anyway out of this now. I was stuck with a decision I didn't want to make. But after I announced I was mates with Ashblossom, others have stopped harassing Ghostsight as much and if I had to sacrifice my happiness for his, I would do whatever it takes.
"You don't love her do you?" Nutchest's warm breath hit my ear. "I can tell you aren't happy Sunpelt. I've known you almost your entire life. You don't have the same gleam in your eyes as you do when you're with Ghostsight." She said softly. "Why don't you just leave Ashblossom and be with him already?"
"Stop" I let my temper that I've hidden for so long slip a little. "Just stop Nutchest. You know I can't. You know exactly the reason why." I whispered and stared at Buckheart who had passed us to talk to Quailflame. She nodded sadly and left me to talk a little with Ghostsight. The thought of her being close to him after our talk made me uncomfortable.
At the gathering, Shadowclan cats looked at us with hatred in their eyes. They were skinny and some were sickly looking. I sat down next to Ashblossom. There obviously wasn't going to be any mingling this moon. I looked up into the Sky Tree and watched all the leaders gather. First Volestar of Shadowclan, Then Rabbitstar of Windclan, and Redstar of Riverclan and finally Lightstar.
"Thunderclan has had some trouble with Shadowclan cats coming to our borders and stealing herbs." Lightstar said. "We have asked politely but still Shadowclan refuses to stop." The battle scarred she-cat looked at Volestar and then sat back down to hear what he'd say. The small, timid black tom stood up.
"Lightstar, we need those herbs. You and your clan have plenty but our supply is low and we are sickly. Please Lightstar. Let us keep using your herbs." The tom wasn't like what we were told as kits. We were told Shadowclan was ruthless but this was just sad. A begging plead from the leader. He should have came to us before stealing. After all, the one things Lightstar couldn't stand was thieves. The strong white she-cat who was many seasons old stood back up.
"You should have asked sooner Volestar. Now if we see claw or tail of your warriors, we will attack and we will have a war on our paws." She fur puffed up and she was about to hiss something else but the clouds covered the sky, signaling that it was time to leave before things got bad. She nodded, looked at her clan, and jumped out of the tree. The brave leader of my clan then turned and glared at Volestar and then left. She truly was fearless and an amazing leader. Commanding cats easily with only a sharp glare.
Chapter 15-
The battle had started suddenly and cats were dying left and right. I started to wonder if they were even thinking of the Warrior code. I look at all of them, anger twisting in my face. I watched the small black leader of Shadowclan charge for me and I leap onto his back, squashing him to the ground. Power ripped through me. I had the leader under my paws. The small twisted side of me started to slip out. Part of me loved this feeling and the other part was scared that i was this way. I grinned as I watched the tom struggle under me and I lifted my paw to sink it's claws into the leaders neck but stopped when I heard the screeching of agony. Voices I knew well. "Dawnspeck? Ripplefur?" I called out. I let Volestar go and searched for them. I finally spotted the grey and gold she-cat next to the limp body of my father. They weren't moving. "No..." I looked up to see the only cat I trusted with his muzzle stained red and my parents scent covering his own. No regret in his eyes. Nothing but a cold stare. He had to have killed them while no one was looking. Another screech filled the air as Shortclaw fell to the ground.
"Enough!" Lightstar yowled. "Too many lives have been lost! Thunderclan retreat! Bring the bodies of the fallen and get out of here!" She picked up Shortclaw and I rested my tail on her, showing my empathy to her. She looked up at me and whispered. "Looks like it's your turn now Sunpelt." I was confused by her words but simply just nodded. The pain from the battle had finally hit me. My wounds were still bleeding and I was slightly limping. I walked up to Ashblossom who was carrying Dawnspeck and I picked up Ripplefur. The lifeless tom who had cared for both me and Ghostsight, only to be betrayed. Anger took over me as I stared at the white tom but I swallowed it. Now was not the time. But it made me realize something. I wasn't protecting Ghostsight from the clan, I was protecting the clan from Ghostsight.
--------
Chapter 16-
“I have made a decision on what to do now that Shortclaw is gone.” Lightstar mewed. Her body looked tattered and her pelt was unkempt. “There will be no deputy. I may be old, but I have many lives left and will be here for many seasons. When I am down to one more life, I will assign a deputy. Until then, I will lead this clan alone.” I looked up at her, slightly stern. She had told me that I was going to be deputy so why wasn't she telling the clan? Did she honestly think that cats wouldn't accept me as deputy? Anger started to fill my body. After the announcement, I made my way to her den.
"What in Starclans name is going on Lightstar? I thought I was going to be deputy!" I looked at her, tail lashing. "Am I too embarrassing to be named as deputy?"
"That's not it at all Sunpelt. I just thought if you were the one to act as deputy when the clan didn't have one that they'd respect you more." She said that so calmly that I was sure her expected my outburst.
I stared at her, studying. I finally let my shoulder relax and sighed. "Fine. I'll respect what you say." I turned to leave but before I could she put a paw on me.
"Sunpelt, I know you killed Ratpelt" she said softly. I turned over to her with a look of surprise. "I want to know why Sunpelt."
"If you knew that, why did you appoint me deputy?" I asked, a slight sharp tone in my voice.
"I knew you must have a reason for doing it." She told me.
"What kind of leader would excuse someone for killing a clanmate Lightstar? What kind of mother would reward someone for killing their kit?" My anger seeped out again. "What if I didn't have a reason and you kept a killer in your clan?" She looked at me, almost scared. I sighed and looked at her. "If you have to know, he was plotting to kill Ghostsight. I let my anger slip and I killed him because if I didn't, he would have killed my best friend" she nodded slowly.
"I told you I knew you had a reason. You're a trusted cat" She whispered.
"Sometimes the cats you trust the most are the ones you betray you the most." I told her. "Now if you excuse me, I have to check up on Ashblossom." I left the she-cat alone. I knew I shouldn't of yelled at her but her logic was flawed. I won't keep killers in my clan. Once I become leader, cats like Ghostsight will be gone. It's a choice between someone you love, or the whole clan and I can't bring myself to watch innocent cats die anymore. He has to change or he has to go.
Chapter 17-
After Lightstar fell from an oak tree while hunting, she made Smallweb's other kits apprentices. Mistypaw was Mapleflight's apprentice and Seapaw was mine. I looked down at the brown and sliverish grey tabby and a small bit of pride filled my chest. She looked a lot more like Smallweb than Mistypaw and Ashblossom. I started to wonder what mine would look like.
"Come on Sunpelt! I've been waiting moons for this day!" She yelled at me. Looks like I got a sassy one.
"Looks like you have your paws full with that one." Mapleflight purred. The white and brown spotted tabby was always kind.
"Yeah yeah" I purred and watched Mistypaw bounced around Mapleflight in excitement. The little gray and silver tabby's she-cat's eyes shone. Meanwhile mine looked annoyed at how slow we were going. She stared up at me with brown eyes and mouthed 'Hurry up'. I sighed and nodded. "We better get going or I feel Seapaw is going to put fleas in my nest." Mapleflight purred and chuckled.
"Okay. Let's go." The little she-cat said.
"Why didn't Ghostsight get an apprentice?" Mistypaw asked as we were walking towards the forest. "Aren't you two brothers? Nutchest and Buckheart trained you two at the same time. Shouldn't I be Ghostsight's apprentice?" I looked down at her and whispered.
"That might offend Mapleflight to say that you'd rather be Ghostsight's apprentice." I told her.
"I didn't say that! I was just surprised that he wasn't my mentor." She explained, almost whining. I flicked her ear to show I was just having fun with her. She paused for a bit. "I heard that you and Ghostsight like each other." I stopped and looked down at her. "Is it true?" She asked innocently.
"No. Two toms can't like each other. Besides, Ashblossom is my mate." I told her. She looked up at me, confused but seemed to decide not to ask anymore questions and just nod.
Was it always so obvious?
Chapter 18-
It had been moons since I was appointed Seapaw as my apprentice and she seemed ready. Mapleflight had voiced her concerns to me that Mistypaw didn't seem ready to become a warrior. As I stood where Lightstar should be, I thought about how me and Ghostsight had became warriors. It felt like forever ago. Things have changed so much it's crazy. Ashblossom's kits will be here soon, I'm pretty much deputy, and Seapaw was about to become a warrior. I shook my head in disbelief. I was going to be a father. I wasn't ready at all for kits. I had a clan to lead and keep safe. How was I going to do that with kits running around at my paws? I sucked in a deep breath and called out to the clan.
"Every cat who is old enough to hunt, gather around!” I watched as all the clan gathered at the bottom of the rock and my heart beat faster. My mentor who had taught me everything was now the one below me. Ashblossom was staring up at me, belly huge with kits and Ghostsight's eyes grew wide. I had become stronger then my old friend.“Because Lightstar is injured in the medicine cat den” I looked over and nodded a respectful hello to the she-cat “She asked me to take over for awhile while she is recovering. And I think one apprentice is ready to become a warrior. Seapaw, come here.”
Joy glowed in Seapaw's eyes while I watched Mistypaw's die. It was obvious she knew she wasn't getting her warrior name. A little guilt hit at my chest. I remembered seeing the same look in a curtain white tom's eyes and thought about how it'd feel if he had been left behind. But it was too late and the damage had been done. I needed to move on.
“You have been a smart, kind apprentice and I think you’re ready for your warrior name. Because of your eagerness and kindness you remind me of my father. To honor both you and him, I give you the name of Searipple.” I purred and watched her be swarmed by her clanmates and the guilt was no longer there. After the long day, I finally settled down in my nest next to Ashblossom. I let the warmth of her fur put me to sleep. I woke up to find myself in a field. I looked around for a bit until I ran into a starry pelt Tom.
"Sunpelt." The large orange and brown tabby Tom bellowed. "Do you know who I am?" His eyes seemed to search me for some kind of emotion but I stayed calm.
"You're Thornscar right?" I asked. "An old Shadowclan warrior?" The fading Tom looked impressed and nodded.
"Not many know my name" he said, his deep voice seemed to shake the earth.
"I like to make sure I know as much as I can." I bluntly said. The Tom nodded and his face turned serious.
"When the moon rises, the sun will set and it will die in a burning sea of red" he muttered and stared at me.
"What did you just say?" I asked, straining my ears.
"When the moon rises, the sun will set and it will die in a burning sea of red!" He shouted, making my ears ring slightly and then he started to fade.
"Hold on." I called but he was gone and I woke up next to my mate, a dark feeling looming over me
Chapter 19-
After I refused to give Mistypaw her warrior name, she begged me to switch her mentor from Mapleflight to Ghostsight. I argued about it for awhile until a defeated looking Mapleflight walked in and told me she wasn't ready to be a mentor. I paused for a bit to think before I told her yes. He'd only be her mentor for a moon or two so I saw no problem.
"You can go Mapleflight" I excused the she-cat and she bowed her head and left, tail drooping.
"I guess I'll go tell Ghostsight-" I cut off Mistypaw's sentence.
"Mistypaw, there's something very important I must tell you." I looked at her with a serious look and watched the young she-cat flinch. I padded up to her and got close, wrapping my tail around her.
"What are you doing?" The silver and grey she-cat's face turned a bright red as my muzzle was inches away from hers.
"I need you to watch Ghostsight closely." I murmured. "He's a horrible killer and I'm afraid he'll hurt others. I know a brave she-cat like you will be up for the challenge as a spy right?" I pressed my nose up to hers. "Do it for me?"
She flinched but nodded, her face completely red now. The color of blood across her face. I started getting the itch to fight again, but not yet. Soon. I'll make sure that Ghostsight won't hurt others anymore and these feeling for another Tom will leave and ill be free. I could live a normal life as leader with Ashblossom by my side. Even if that meant having kits. I'll be normal.
Chapter 20-
Lightstar had lost her last life and I was deemed the leader by my clanmates. Onepath and I had packed herbs and were about to go on are way to the Stone of Beginnings. I looked over at Buckheart and gave a curt nod. He was going to become my deputy in the morning. After knowing what I can do, he wouldn't dare step out of place. "Take care of Ashblossom for me. Onepath's new apprentice Stonepaw should be able to help if she has my kits tonight." The brown and cream Tom nodded back and left.
"Excited? This is a big moment for you Sunpelt." The old medicine cat asked. He was getting too old and was starting to walk with a limp. I'd be sure to have him leave for the elder's den when Stonepaw was ready. It was for his own good. I smiled and purred at him and nodded.
"Very. I wonder who will give me my nine lives." He chuckled and rested his tail on my back before walking away.
--
The sun was starting to set right as we stone and seemed like moons as we waited for the light to gently touch the rock. I sat down touching my nose to the dusty old pebble until a flash of bright light hit my eyes and blinded me. When I opened them, I wasn't by the rock anyone. Tall trees took up the place. It was very dark and the ground muddied my paws. The smell of pine and dust hit my nose. The stars were gone. The dark forest. I had been warned many times not to tread here. So why was I brought here instead of Starclan?
"Sunpelt" a purr said from the shadows. Sweet and thick as honey. "It's so nice to meet you." A dark ginger she-cat with very thin fur and long ears greeted me. "My name is Redstar. Once leader of Shadowclan. Welcome to my home." She studied me and I nodded. I didn't know what to say in a situation like this. "I've come to give you your first life. Come closer."
"I thought only Starclan cats can give you lives." I was more curious than anything. Besides, I was a careful tom. I could handle myself.
"The cats closest to you are supposed to. That doesn't mean they have to be in Starclan." She told me as if it were common sense.
"I don't know you though. I figured my mother and father would give me my lives." I looked around. Certainly they would be here to take me to Starclan and get my lives. Right? Or maybe even Onepath.
"I'm hurt Sunpelt. I know you very well." she sat inches away from my muzzle. "I even know secrets that you don't. Want me to tell you?" I shook my head and she sighed. "Very well. You'll find out soon enough. Now then, let's get started shall we?" Before I could open my mouth, a surge of energy pumped through my veins. "I give you Power. It will give you the energy to lead." She faded and a large yellow Tom padded up to me.
"I give you Anger to remember what they did to you and so you can use it to find motivation."
"I give you Numbness so you don't feel the pain when you take others life" all the emotions and feelings hit me all at once. The dark cats kept going until my 9th life was complete. But then one more cat came from the bushes.
"I will give you one last life. The life of Sorrow. This is your 10th life and with this, you will be bonded by actions and bounded to me. This is a favor from me and I'll ask for one in return one day." The black skinny Tom whisper to me and a pain I've never felt struck me. A pain that hurt like 20 Shadowclan cats attacking me. So this is Sorrow
Chapter 21-
After my visit to the Stone, me and Onepath padded back to Thunderclan quickly. I felt a new kind of strength. One that pulsed through me and made my spine tingle. The old medicine cat stared at me as if to say something but he never found his tongue. When my paw hit the soil, Stonepaw came running through the forest, careful not to get tangled in the brambles.
"Sunpel-" The small white tom stopped and thought for a heartbeat. "Sunstar, Ashblossom is kitting" he mewed quietly.
"You left a kitting queen by herself?" Onepath growled. "Get back there and help her you flea brain!" He yowled, prodding the time hard with a paw. "I can't do everything myself! I have things I need to do too." Stonepaw stared at his mentor stunned. I doubt he ever heard that tone from Onepath before.
"Y-yes Onepath. I'll go right now." He scampered off to the camp.
"I swear. If Starclan themselves didn't insist he should be a medicine cat, I would have thought Lightstar had bees in her brain appointing him to me." He huffed. I purred and flicked my tail in amusement, thinking about how I mentored Searipple. She too got under my fur.
"Well let's hurry. My kits are waiting" I said quietly to him. He nodded and he hurried back to the clan together.
22-
When I got to the nursery, my deputy Buckheart was waiting for me looking a tad bit nervous.
"What took you so long?" The tom bellowed. I nodded greetings to the tom and shook my head.
"It takes time to get nine lives Buckheart. One day you'll realize that." I dismissed him with a wave of my tail and hurried to my mate's side. Four wiggling kits were by her side, mewling. One was a dark gray with black spots and blue eyes, another was black with gold ears and gray freckles. The last she-cat was a pale gray with black paws, and the tom was a fluffy bracken colored tom. I purred at the site of them and all that pained me left my body. nothing mattered anymore besides these kits, my mate, and my clan. They were my purpose. Before I could say anything, the white pelt of the ghost like cat slid by along with Mistylight. The light grey she-cat smiled at me and then at the kits. They were her kin too I realized.
“Do you want to name one?” Ashblossom asked her sister. Her eyes shone with pride but her gaze was also distant as if she was looking past us and through the den.
“I-if that’s okay,” The young she-cat mewed quietly. “Is it okay If I name her after someone I love?”
She glanced at me with wide eyes. I shot a warning glare before she could utter my name I had as a kit.
“I don’t see why not,” The new mother mewed, looking up at Ghostsight. It was good to know that she bought the whole Mistylight liking Ghostsight thing although I knew he'd never love her. He was never interested in the she-cats. Even when cats have shown signs of interest in him, he never returned them. Just simply brushed them off. Rumors of that were starting to spread to other clans. It was time to make sure our reputation stayed clean.
“I think I’ll name the gray she-cat with blue eyes Ghostkit.” Mistylight stuttered, tearing her eyes off me to look up at the tom.
“If that’s okay with you Ghostsight.” The tom stepped back slightly and took a few heartbeats before saying anything.
“Uh, yeah, yeah. That’s fine.” He said quietly. I padded up to him while he was dazed and he jumped slightly.
“Looks like you’re a normal cat after all old friend. I was worried you’d never find a mate.If you had stayed the way you were, strange and useless, I’d have to make you leave.” I played it off as a joke, bumping him.
Chapter 23-
"Sunstar" Ashblossom mewed softly. Her paw steps quick, crunching the leafs on the forest ground.
"What is it?" I asked. I looked up into her pale blue eyes. Was that regret in them? As I try to think about what cause be causing it, Buckheart came out of the bushes, carrying my kits. My fur started to bristle.
"Sunstar" Ashblossom said again except this time her body language was showing her emotion a lot better. She moved over to stand by the large, thick-furred tom and our kits. "I have something to tell you." She looked at Buckheart. "We. We have something to tell you."
"What's going on?" I snapped. Anger started to bubble through me.
"The kits aren't yours Sunstar" Buckheart said and looked away. "They're mine." My eyes widened at the two and then at the kits.
"But they look like.." I stared at the black and gold she-cat and the cat I thought was my mate shook her head and licked the pelt until a golden spot was gone.
"I dabbed pollen on her everyday. I didn't want you to find out but this has gone too far." She narrowed her fox-hearted eyes at me. "You're cruel Sunstar. You never cared for me anyways. It's better this way." I lashed my tail and hissed.
"You're wrong! I cared about you! I would have given my life for you" I snapped. I stepped closer and watch a flash of fear enter her eyes for only a second before turning cold. "And you!" I looked at my deputy. "I was going to trust you with my clan you mate stealer!" Alarm shone in his eyes and he backed away. "How could you love such a coward Ashblossom!"
"You're scaring my kits Sunstar" She mewed coldly. I narrowed my eyes at the she-cat.
"I want you and your kits out of my clan." I turned to Buckheart and growled. "You're staying. I won't allow you to be with her. You are no longer my deputy."
"You can do-" I cut Ashblossom off
"I am his leader! My word is law! Now leave before I kill you. Get out of my territory you filthy rouge." I flexed my claws, ready to strike if necessary. She glared at me but picked up a kit and started heading to the border with the other kits following her every paw step, whining all the way. "Buckheart" I growled. "Get back to the clan and tell them you don't wish to be deputy anymore."
"But Sunstar." He tried to argue.
"Go before I do what I did to Ratpelt I do to you!" He put his tail between his legs and ran towards the camp. The clan is full of ungrateful fox-hearted cats. It was time to make my clan loyal and strong again no matter the cost.
Chapter 24-
"Give in to the hate Sunstar. Let me take control now." The voice echoed loudly as I looked around at my surroundings. I was in a large empty field full of poppies and lavender. "Lay down and let me help you. You're too weak. Let me protect you."
"Redstar?" I looked at the ginger she-cat. She wrapped her body around me and I felt myself drift off into sleep as her warm scent rippled over me.
"It will all be over soon. Let me control for now. I will make you better." She promised. My eyes got heavy and I fell asleep only to be woken up by cries of horror. I opened my eyes and looked down at the only one I ever truly loved. His neck ripped open and my claws digging in.
"No... Ghostsight. Don't die. Please. I'm so sorry Ghostsight. I love you." His amber eyes turned dull and grew limp. I stared at him in horror as Buckheart took me by the scruff and pulled me away.
"This has gone too far Sunstar. It's time I became leader and fixed this mess of yours." He looked over at Ashblossom and nodded his head to Ghostsight. She grabbed his scruff and dragged him back to Thunderclan.
"What happened?" I asked. "What are these rouges doing here? Why is Ghostsight dead?" I felt myself start to panic. Buckheart threw me in one of the empty dens we used for prisoners.
"You really don't remember?" He glared at me and growled. "Or are you playing dumb?"
"I really don't remember. The last thing I remember is you and Ashblossom telling me about the kits." The large thick-furred tom blinked at me.
"You started acting strange around that time." He thought for a second. "I'll be back soon. You can't leave this spot. If you do, you will be killed on the spot." He turned around and left. The whole clan that once loved me, feared me. What happened to me?
Chapter 25-
I looked down at my blood soaked paws. The memories of everything that happened flooded back. I promised to protect Ghostsight but now he was gone. My mate and kits were gone. And now my leadership was gone. Everything had turned to dust and was blown away in the wind. I stared out of the hole I was prisoned in and looked around. Everyone was tucked tightly into their nests sound asleep. I took a few paw steps outside and ran for my life out of the camp. Everything was gone. I had ruined my destiny with envy and greed. For the first time in my life, I found tears roll down my cheeks. I've done nothing but hurt the ones I loved. I stopped at the edge of the lake and looked up at the stars.
"I'm sorry Starclan! Please forgive me." I bowed my head and fell to my paws on the bank of the dark water. I looked out to the horizon and jumped. In seconds I felt the air leave my lungs making my insides burn with desire to push up to the surface. I swam deeper and felt one of my life's slip away. I opened my eyes and found myself at the bottom, no moonlight greeted me. Eight more life's of this pain and I'll be where I belong. I opened my muzzle welcoming the darkness that entered my body.
"Sunstar, why are you doing this to yourself?" Ghostsight stared at me his face twisted with grief. He looked like a kit again. His white fur fluffy and his eyes large and bright. "Please don't do this for me. I don't hate you Sunstar." He wrapped his body around mine and touched his forehead to mine. "Don't die. Please don't die Sunstar." I tried to speak but only water came out. I looked into his eyes and shook my head. My last life was fading and my eyes felt heavy. Ghostsight wrapped his tail around mine and I left my body.
"Ghostsight. I'm so sorry. I hurt you and the clan. I should have been honest with you and the others. I should have been more like you and didn't care as much about what others thought."
"It's fine. Just promise you won't be the same way in your new home." He looked up from the bottom of the lake. "Come on slowpoke." He looked back at me and smirked. "Dawnspeck and Ripplefur are waiting to see you." My eyes widened and a purr escaped me. I followed the white Tom until Starclan greeted me. I was finally happy with the one I loved.
[Sunstar's P.O.V end]
