Hello there! I’m bramble. Recently, I’ve been coming up with quite a few ideas for new characters as well as refining old ones. I love going into the backstory of characters so I decided to write short stories about each character and their background! Some might even have a small series of short stories depending on if I want to expand them or not. I’m not professional in the slightest and I’m only doing this for the heck of it. Anyways, feel free to leave any commentary or if you just want to chat, I’m open to that too. Hopefully this also provides some entertainment to other people xD Thanks for stopping by!
“And why is that? Am I not intelligent enough to run father’s business? I have played a large part in managing his trade ships for three years now! Surely it would be wiser to entrust me with the company instead of some strange man from who knows where!” Octavia snapped, slamming her hair brush down on her dresser. Her mother flinched. Her daughter’s fury gave made her hesitant to approach but after a brief silence, Marie stepped forward and placed her hand softly on Octavia’s shoulder. A sigh of sympathy escaped her rosy red lips. “Oh my love, how I wish you could.... You’re brilliant...” she said as she leaned down to envelop her daughter in her embrace. Octavia stayed motionless in her mother’s arms. Her look was one of bitterness and envy of her future husband. “But that’s not how this works... You are not a man, therefore, you simply can not do a man’s job.” her mother said.
Octavia closed her eyes tightly, as if hit by a sudden wave of pain. Though true, the words left a sour taste on her tongue. Before anymore damage could be done, a knock on the door interrupted their moment. Standing in the doorway was the family maid. She was older woman with graying hair and warm, honey brown eyes. Octavia always thought that perhaps, in her younger days, the maid must have been quite attractive. “Mr. Morton sent me up here to fetch Octavia. It appears the Collins boy has arrived.” the maid told Marie in a respectful tone. Her mother released her and gave a small nod.
“Good.. Tell them we’ll be down in just a moment.” Marie said as she cleared her throat. The maid dipped her head and then disappeared from sight once more. Marie smoothed out her dress and took a step back to look at Octavia. “Well come on then. We better not keep him waiting.” she encouraged, trying to sound optimistic. Octavia reluctantly rose from her chair, her deep green dress elegantly draped to the ground. Compared to her, Marie wore a less impressive gray gown purely for the hope of making Octavia’s beauty stand out more.
Marie intertwined one arm with her daughter and began to walk toward the staircase that would lead them down into the den. “Now, promise me you’ll at least give the poor boy a chance.” she whispered. Octavia rolled her eyes and held her chin up, refusing to meet her mother’s gaze. “I’m meeting him, that should be enough.” Feeling her mother’s stern gaze burning into the side of her head, Octavia released a sigh of defeat. “Ok fine, I promise to seriously consider him as my future spouse... Satisfied?"
Her mother chuckled softly and nodded vigorously. “Yes. I just wish you would have promised to that the other four times.” She mused. The two turned the corner and reached the large staircase. Below them stood two figures. One was her father. A plump older gentleman who was going bald yet still had a thick beard. His green eyes were just as noticeable on him as they were on Octavia. The other one, the one that caught Octavia’s attention, was the young man known as John Collins. He was a handsome young man. He stood tall and lean, with noticeable muscle beneath his clothing. His dark blonde hair was neatly groomed and parted to the side so it was kept from falling into his icy blue eyes. John was in a deep conversation with her father until he caught the movement of the two ladies descending the staircase. The right corner of his mouth twitched upward into a dashing smile as he locked eyes with Octavia.
“Octavia, he greeted you, say something.” Her mother’s hissed whisper pierced through her thoughts. Octavia blinked and exchanged a look with her mother who then gestured discreetly towards John. It took a moment before it dawned on her that his smile had also came with a polite acknowledgement of her arrival. “Ah, lovely to meet you, John.” She said and held out her hand to him. Embarrassment coursed through her but she refused to falter. Looks may distract but personalities are the truth.
John chuckled in amusement before taking her hand. He kissed it softly before releasing her. “Likewise, Ms. Morton.” he replied with a warm look. “I look forward to getting to know you.” Octavia retracted her hand and offered him an innocent smile. Looks definitely distracted.

“Dear, you must pick a husband some day. It’s inevitable.” cooed the gentle voice of Octavia’s mother, Marie. Octavia rolled her eyes as she brushed her hair thoroughly, each stroke becoming harsher than the last. Her hair was long and pitch black, a trait that came directly from her mother. In fact, she looked almost exactly like her mother, sharing the similar sharp facial features that added up to a look of refinement. The only thing that she seemed to share with her father on a physical level were her stunning green eyes, which were currently narrowed in frustration.
