--- Chapter 1 ---
Tawnypaw yawned as she padded into the clearing, blinking her bright green eyes a couple times to shake out the sleepiness that weighed them down. She was already getting too big for the apprentices' den, and it was a bit tiring. Her paws tingled as the marshy earth meshed beneath her pads, slightly bending to their shape. This used to bother her significantly, but it had been a couple moons since her arrival in Shadowclan, and the atmosphere of the clan had become normal to her. It certainly wasn't Thunderclan, but the cats welcomed her. Well, most of them did. Russetfur would occasionally give Tawnypaw a look or two, but Tawnypaw could't be bothered to think twice about it, especially since Russetfur seemed like the kind of cat that would find fault with Starclan had they descended down from Silverpelt above.
"Morning Tawnypaw," a voice called out, and the dappled ginger and white apprentice turned to find Cedarheart heading her way. Flicking her ears with amusement, the she-cat turned to meet her clan mate halfway.
"Good morning to you too," Tawnypaw greeted, "How are you even awake? Didn't you just finish your vigil?
"You're joking right? I basically fell asleep during the entire thing. I wish something would've happened, I wouldn't mind sharpening my claws on a couple targets." The dark gray warrior sighed, rolling his amber eyes. "Well, I guess you wouldn't understand until you have to do it. I mean, it'll be your turn soon."
"Assuming Oakfur doesn't let me die of old age first," Tawnypaw sighed, scanning the clearing for her absent mentor.
"Now that you mention it, I haven't seen you two training much in the past couple of days," Cedarheart mused, glancing upward in thought. "What? Did he get tired of you already?"
"Hardly," Tawnypaw huffed, flicking the warrior on the shoulder with the tip of here tail. "He's been so busy chasing after Nightwing's tail, he's hardly got the time for his beloved apprentice. Though I think Runningnose could vouch for me more than Oakfur, considering how much time I spend taking care of the elders now..." Shifting her gaze from the young warrior to the brightening sky, the she-cat's green gaze shimmered. I wonder how Bramblepaw is doing... Her mind momentarily flooded with thoughts of her brother. Was he handling everything alright? Was Firestar overworking him? Was he overworking himself? The apprentice's chest began to tighten as a sudden onset of homesickness washed over her like a lapping wave. Seeing Bramblepaw's beaming face always brightened her mood, but it'd be another half-moon before she'd have the chance to see her littermate.
"Tawnypaw?" Cedarheart's mew rang, breaking into her cloud of thoughts. His amber eyes weren't concerned as much as they were curious. "Are you alive?"
"No," she retorted, cuffing the warrior's ear in a mix of irritation and amusement. "I've died, and I'm here to haunt you for the rest of your boring life."
"Hopefully that means you'll be gone soon, because I'm dying to do something interesting for once..."
"What? The Bloodclan battle wasn't fun enough for yo-" But before the she-cat could finish her teasing, a loud mew echoed in the clearing, and her wide green eyes sought out the source of the booming meow. Turning she spotted, Rowanclaw padding up to Cedarheart, his green gaze dark and void of anything Tawnypaw believed qualified as an emotion.
"Figures you two would be wasting time chatting like elders," Rowanclaw growled, shifting his gaze from the young warrior to Tawnypaw, herself. "Don't you two mousebrains know that we're low on prey? Can't you make yourselves useful for once?"
The fur along Tawnypaw's began to bristle as the ginger tom gazed down condescendingly at her. Who does he think he is? He's hardly older than the two of us! "Well, Rowanclaw, we're trying to be more like you, but it seems like we forgot to add annoying others to our to-do list. Our bad." Rowanclaw's eyes narrowed, and the two cats green glares clashed, almost sparking in the humid air.
"You're all talk, Tawnypaw," Rowanclaw hissed. "But I'd expect no less from a cat who doesn't know where her loyalties lie."
"Oh yes, please do tell me more about loyalties, Rowanclaw. I'm sure Jaggedtooth really taught you that well. Oh, where was he again? Ah that's right, hiding with the other rogues from Bloodclan," Tawnypaw retorted, trying to resist unsheathing her claws.
"Why I oughta-" Rowanclaw began, but was interrupted by a yowl in the distance.
"You two will spend the next three moons cleaning up after the elders if you don't stop now!" Tawnypaw's ears pricked up at the sight of Oakfur padding towards her with Blackstar at his side. Promotion? Expulsion? I really can't tell with these cats... But the tortoiseshell didn't hesitate to head over to her mentor and her leader. "Great to see you alive, Oakfur. I was worried for a while."
"Keep your fur on Tawnypaw," Oakfur mewed, his monotone voice betrayed by the affectionate gaze he showed his first apprentice. "Blackstar and I were discussing your progress as an apprentice."
"Okay, well, I have a few suggestions for what I want as warrior name, the first being-"
"Does your apprentice always chatter this much?" Blackstar growled, his amber eyes narrowing with annoyance.
"Only if others are talking," Oakfur sighed, before cuffing the young she-cat playfully. "Tawnypaw, we're going to start assessing you a bit more to see if you're ready to become a full-fledged warrior. Are you up to the task?"
"Of course!" she mewed, waving her tail excitedly at the thought of being able to earn her name soon and prove herself to Shadowclan.
"Good," Oakfur purred, "The first thing we'd like to check is how you handle a border patrol. And since you've proven how well you can...get along with your clanmates, why don't you have Rowanclaw and Cedarheart accompany you?"
Tawnypaw could sense Cedarheart's ears prick up with interest, but Rowanclaw stood as still as a tree in leaf bare. But she shared his sentiments, considering he was the last cat she'd like to spend quality time together with. But an assessment was an assessment, and she'd do whatever it took to become a true Shadowclan warrior.
"Of course," she mewed, dipping her head respectfully to Oakfur and Blackstar. "We'll head out right now."
Glancing back at Rowanclaw, she felt as surge of anger at the look he gave her. It was one she received countless times back at Thunderclan.
Is a cat like her worthy to be a warrior?
Tawnypaw's claws dug into the marshy soil, and her green eyes blazed like fire.
I'll show you all what I'm made of.

[It's sounding like something I'd read in the series. Beautifully written so far! ✩✩✩✩ stars!] <---- My review! c:
The fourth line from the bottom, I'm not sure if you know that there is a slight miswording. You wrote "as" and I'm fairly sure you meant "a". But otherwise, nothing was out of place that I saw.
