I'm jealous of your confidence, eph. ;-; tbh it's less confidence and more of a hard-earned skill that's practically perfunctory at this point. it helps my characters are practically dragging me toward the endgame they want. quick path to confidence: write. write a crap ton. you're already on this though, so great. just remember: it's all going to be garbage. but that's what first drafts are for. write it all over again. still at least 50% garbage. post it anyway. figure out your weaknesses. ELIMINATE THEM or at least do your best to work on 'em. for me it's plot. i can do characters. i can do quiet scenes. but actual plot? conflict? that's my goal, to work on those. basically: KNOW THYSELF. know your writing inside and out. what do you tend to do, what are patterns in your stories, are there common threads. if you know what your strengths and weaknesses are, it's so much easier to have a good perspective going into a piece. also: characters who are they. WHAT DO THEY WANT. that's huge. motives. why are they here in the first place? what's keeping them from walking out on you. why should we care about them. they're in danger, so what. do they have fears and desires? why? again: who are they? what do they care about? take it away. what do they fear? make them face it. what do they want? dangle it in front of them. then: oops, never mind, can't have it, more challenges to overcome first, sorry. everything they think is real: totally a lie. everyone they love: destined to betray them. how smart are they? do they see the conflict coming or does it hit them over the head? are they prepared? maybe they prepared for the wrong thing. pull the rug out from under them. kill someone. almost kill someone. threaten to take someone away forever. strip them of power. what do they do, how do they react? can you put them in any situation and know what they'd do, what they'd say? are they real? make them suffer. it's good for them, i promise basically: find that one scene, that one character, that you really care about. let that guide the story. give the reins to your narrator. let them take you where they will. maybe in circles. that's why you revise. don't let yourself psyche yourself out. be calm, know yourself, HAVE FUN. write the heart-wrenching scene that will have us all crying and laugh. LAUGH. the power is yours. harness it. you are as a god. go wild. we'll gobble up whatever you give. is it novel worthy? who cares. not me! i'm not trying to be stephen king or whoever. i'm writing one-shots about talking cats and that gives me life. i'm practicing skills for the future and having a ball. seriously, don't overthink it. just do it. don't be unprepared but don't let yourself think you're not prepared, either. got no idea where a story's going? me either. write it anyway. let it surprise you. take a walk, pace in circles, stand in the shower, listen to crappy music. does the character get a happy ending? maybe not. do they deserve one? no? give it to them anyway. is writing hard? of course it is. it's practically impossible sometimes, but you've got to do it anyway. well, technically you don't, but it's fun. if you don't want to write, don't. the key is to figure out what makes you WANT to write. then do it. this turned out way longer and way weirder than planned, but oh well. take it.

That spoke to my soul. Thank you, eph. <3
My strengths are description, world-building, and characters. Description came naturally. I write how I think. I watch what's happening inside my head and come up with creative metaphors to describe what's going on. World-building came from my many years of role-play. I'm good with coming up with crazy ideas that build and build onto each other until a world blossoms before my very eyes. I let it fly. Characters also came with the role-play, along with reading SO many books. Characters are the heart of all stories.
My weaknesses are grammar and plot. My plot is good, but I know it can be better. I tend to go OVERboard with my plots. I need to learn how to pull back the reigns and make it coherent. Getting there...slowly. Grammar has always been a struggle because when I was learning it I was also loosing my eye-sight so I was never able to see what my teacher was writing. I was too stubborn and prideful so I didn't say anything. I fell behind quite a bit. I feel like I'm still catching up.
My characters are always going through hell, because I've been to hell and back. I drag up my darkest feelings and thoughts and experiences and give them to my characters even though sometimes I will have a relapse as a consequence. My characters honestly need therapy at this point, haha. Most of my stories involve death and dramatic action scenes and some sort of underdog trying to discover who they are as a main protagonist. My antagonist are never purely evil. They all used to be good, and innocent in some way. I can't imagine or possibly write a character who is just naturally inclined to be "evil". I don't believe in it even though I'm sure it exists. All baddies are corrupted or poisoned by something. I always have romance in my stories, because romance makes me happy. Love is like the force behind the universe that makes everything GO. I wouldn't be alive today without love. So I need to write it.
I know myself as a writer well. But I'm always craving feedback. I'm always craving something to reward me in a way. But it is a joy to write. My soul dies a little when I'm unable to write for a long time. I could write with no one reading it, but I will still bother my family and friends to sit down and listen because writing to me feels like nothing unless I share it with someone and see that smile or gasp or tear. It makes it all worth it.

I actually am not that big on writing, and don't plan to make a career out of it. But I enjoy writing, as it opens up a new way to tell a story, a life.
My characters usually are made using a item that fits them, in this prompt, I am using a character of shadow and light. I tend to do this often. I like using short but suspenseful scenes, as it adds to the overall untold mystery and conflict that cannot be found until the end(or a person actually thinks about the symbolism, and spots what's out of the ordinary).
I'm only a 5th the way through right now, as I am deciding how to address the conflict coming, but I don't know if it will fit the limit.
Well still, I am very excited to start entering!

i am but a font overflowing with writing advice glad you guys found some help in it! and ☾ Cʀᴇsᴄᴇɴᴛ ☽ i am planning on doing a class on revision for the beach bash, which will probably look a lot like that haha » ѕнαdσω ⚔️ now you know what to do: write a character who is evil (bonus: they know they're evil and love it). write a romantic relationship that doesn't work out, or an aromantic character. write a story where no one dies, the stakes are low. write a character in a powerful position. write, for example, about an elder reflecting on his time in the clan, about the cat he loved but never got with, about the apprentice he lost in an accident that was his fault, about his brief term as deputy and the terror he felt because he didn't want to be responsible for so many cats' lives, about the injury he deliberately sought out so he could retire early in order to avoid being leader. write regret and doubt and longing without letting the characters act on them. that's your challenge from me

So much to do, so little time. I have to say, I'm struggling with the 'natural change' part of this. I went a...very literal route with that. x'D There are many ways to interpret it. A change could be a change inside of a character's self. Physical or emotional. Then there are external changes. A death in the family. A new baby. A new love. Then there is the external change from oneself where the landscape/environment can change.
