Prologue
Warning: May be short. Hopefully, other chapters will be longer.
The tom wriggled under the she-cat, his eyes flaring with fury. "Leopardclaw," He spat back. "Why are you doing this?"
She slashed across Darkfur's muzzle, her eyes full of malice. Darkfur turned over and attempted to jump in order to knock her off, but Leopardclaw held her ground. She pushed Darkfur to the ground, and his shoulders gave in to the weight. Suddenly, she let go. Darkfur stood up, confused. Quickly, Leopardclaw slashed across Darkfur's face, blinding one of his eyes. She aimed blow after blow at him before he could process what was happening, and only stopped when she tired.
"Behold, the power of the Dark Forest." Leopardclaw panted.
Darkfur stood, shocked. Soon, anger took hold of him. He leaped at Leopardclaw, aiming for her eyes. She saw his rage-driven move, and reacted as quickly as she could by reaching a paw in front of her. Her claws slashed across Darkfur's neck, and he realized his mistake a moment too late.
He coughed, the world around him beginning to spin.
The sounds of battle were muffled, as if underwater.
He had to dig his claws into the ground to stay steady.
"Retreat!" A distant voice called. The starry cats around him fled.
Darkfur couldn't breathe. He couldn't run. He tried to turn, and fell.
Yowls of victory from the Dark Forest cats battered his ears.
Sounds faded and the world seemed to end in a wash of black.
We lost.

"Why?" Leopardclaw hissed. "I was left to rot! You think I don't want to kill you?"

"Get out and stay out!" A tortoiseshell cat spat, her fur spiked.
An elderly brown tom growled in anger, his apprentice trailing behind him. "Can't even let us pick up one stalk, those dark forest worshiping snakebreaths." He muttered, quiet enough that only his apprentice could hear him.
"Why can't we just go over and force her, Crookedtooth?" The apprentice asked her mentor.
"You have much to learn." Crookedtooth sighed. "Medicine cats aren't supposed to be aggressors. We're supposed to be healers and peacemakers."
"Tell that to Leaftail." The gray apprentice hissed, rolling her eyes.
