I wonder why Reedshine made it seem like Appledusk's murder was the most terrible thing ever. Yes, murder is bad, but it's not like it hasn't happened before; it has. Is she perhaps also hinting out that Mapleshade attacked her while she was pregnant, or were the Erins once again trying too hard to make Mapleshade into a fearful monster?

I think it had to do with the fact that Mapleshade not only tried to kill her in a jealous rage while Reedshine was pregnant, but also killed Appledusk while he was protecting Reedshine when he was going to become a father, albeit it was accidental.
Either that, or poor writing.

I think Reedshine was just really sad/mad that Mapleshade killed her mate
Maybe this line is the reason Maple wanted to kill every cat related to Appledusk...

Mapleshade did just kill Reedshine's mate and robbed her future kits of their father, so to her, it was the most terrible thing.
