If you like this plot and would want to rp it with me, all I ask is that you are at least semi-advanced, meaning that you can type three or more 'paragraphs' per post. I would not mind if I have to wait a long time for your replies if they are well-written and not just two or three sentences.
This is a mxm plot
The plot is set on an alternate timeline, in a land called Illynx, where the people are still governed by monarchs and those who have not royal or noble status are poor craftsmen and those who have not a trinket to their name are barely seen as human at all.
My guy is nineteen years old when he makes the biggest mistake of his life. Having been orphaned at a young age, Yoongi, better known these days as Jackson, was taken in by a blacksmith. Unfortunately, the blacksmith was never kind to Jackson, viewed him as little more than cheap labor, often assigning him near impossible tasks and starving him when he doesn't manage to get things done. He could leave, if only he had a place to go, if only the blacksmith weren't so adamant on keeping him.
One night, hungry and without shelter for the night, Jackson makes the attempt to steal from a passing nobleman. He's caught, of course, and is dragged kicking and screaming to that nobleman's home. Long story short, he's told that his crime is a capital offense. He can choose to lose the hand that he stole with, possibly spend some time in jail, or he can agree to allow the nobleman to "gift" him to the prince. At the time, the prince thing seemed more favorable than returning home crippled and possibly suffering more for it as a result.
Jackson is cleaned up, given presentable clothes, and on the nobleman's next trip to the palace, he goes along. It's only as he's kneeling there in front of the King and the Prince that he realizes what he's agreed to. There is no way out once you are given in to servitude. He just gave his life away, as a birthday present, to a boy not much older than him.
If you have not guessed, your character will be this Prince. The Prince who is wary about this present he is receiving for his twenty-first birthday because he never asked to have a person. He never, in his life, had shown interest towards having a personal servant, someone who's job was to do his bidding. He didn't need someone like that, he didn't want someone like that. But here he was, with this nineteen year old boy waiting on him when he was pretty sure that neither of them were comfortable with the situation.
In a land where men were supposed to fall in love with women and women with men, the Crown Prince taking a man as a lover would be scandalous enough without the added complication that the man he fell for was a mere servant. The relationship would represent not just one, but two of the land's greatest taboos. And yet, knowing all this, the Prince unwittingly falls in love with the boy who was gifted to him. So he tells Jackson that he wants to love him. He tells Jackson to love him back, and this is his only act of assertion in all the months leading up to this moment. Jackson, though cautious and wary of the punishments and consequences of what this would all mean, allows the Prince to love him and, with time, he finds that he loves the Prince back. What starts for Jackson as just following orders turns into something that he never wants to live without.
The only problem is that the Prince is twenty-one, and that means that he is supposed to find himself a wife. The King holds ball after ball but the Prince doesn't want any of the girls he's introduced to. He wants Jackson. But they both know that this is a relationship doomed to end in nothing short of disaster.

(I used to write quite often, though now I mostly write DnD campaigns, so i can stay committed, but I need to get used to large-scale writing again. I'll give it a try, though forgive me, none of my characters are set up for romance. It might take a bit for anything to develop X3)

{ Oh that's cool :0 I write every once in a while, but I only ever produce short stories. I'm trying to write a novel right now but it's been half a year and I have not gotten past chapter one c':
Oh, wonderful ^-^ I'm glad you're willing to try And that's totally fine x) I'm willing to wait. I intended for it to be a slow burn kind of thing, anyway, so the romance part wasn't supposed to come very fast in the first place c: }
{ Would you want to do character descriptions, or just give face claim/appearance overview and describe the rest through rp? }

(I know the feeling. I wrote a lot in high school, though it was mostly to amuse a small audience. My friends enjoyed it, so I'd write 20-30 pages and have them read it every morning. It was fun. But I was older than the others so i graduated and drifted off from them. With no audience, I stopped. But I did develop my characters that I use here. I can't really do face-claims (I don't know any actors. I live under a rock) If you want to, you can, but I have art of my lovelies.)

{ //is in high school now I feel quite smol x) But wait...every morning? So you wrote 20-30 pages a day? o-o I can barely get out two pages a day. And most of the time, I leave sentences unfinished and I go to fill them in the next day it's not a very polished system
Ah that's fine. I don't know actors, either c: I just use KPop idols, mostly. For Jackson, I was going to have his faceclaim be Min Yoongi (hence me making his given name Yoongi because unoriginality) Ah I wish I could make art of my characters c': I can't draw for my life, though }

(I had a group of 17 people to entertain X3 My chapters were only about 25 pages each, and i tended to write during class. I still managed As and Bs luckily so i got away with it. I also had three stories going at a time, so about 10 pages per story a night. I'll have a drawing of Mika up in a moment. Forgive the prices, I do commissions and I drew him as an example piece) (UUUUUGH its so old i need to redraw it)

{ Dang 0-0 I could never do that, you talented person Me 'writing' during class is just me putting a jumble of words on paper that don't make sense. Once I wrote two pages in class about a potato and a yam being taken from their homes and traded away...needless to say that was kind of useless to me
You do commissions? That's awesome c': And Mika looks lovely <3 }

(X3 thank you~ I'll probably introduce Julian and Valkoinen somewhere near the start, so i'll have their art up in a moment.) (hehh potato yam. was it a POAM!! ...........I'll see myself out...)
(Yoongi is fine, though if he's introduced as Jackson, he'll be called Jackson until he speaks up. Don't worry about Foreign names, just look at Valkoinen.) (My posts might be slow, I have DnD at midnight)

(It's fun, you just want a pressure sensitive tablet and a lot of tutorials. You'll pick it up quickly.) (I really love game art. Partially because I love games. I just started Valiant Hearts: The Great War and it started off with so much feels already I wasn't ready. I've been doing commissions a few months now. about 200$ so far, though i lost my pen recently so i've been working slowly. That and school and my 'real' job take up so much time.) { I'm one of those weirdos who don't actually play games for themselves, mainly because I don't have any gaming consoles and I own a Chromebook, not a PC. I just watch people play games online ha Niiiice. What's your 'real' job? :0 }
{ Seventeen, omg. They're taking over the KPop world. I have two friends who are obsessed with them. I might be, too, if my ultimate bias wasn't towards BTS }

(Alright, take your time. Also forgive if my paragraphs are a little weak at first.)
(I work drive through at fast food. Minimum wage, part-time, but it pays rent. Commissions are for emergency money. I didn't have a job for a long time and rent ate up all my savings.) (My husband loves Xbox, so we have that and I have a Mac that can barely run a few games, so I get to deal with that. We also love pokemon so we have DS's. I also have so many harvest moon- type games for older consoles. Even if you don't play games yourself, you can still like and enjoy them. The internet has lets plays of everything.)

"Jackson." The voice that called for his attention wasn't particularly loud or abrasive, but it was firm and Yoongi resisted the urge to tug at the collar of his plain, white shirt as he descended from the nobleman's carriage. In this moment, he still wasn't quite sure if he should be regretting his initial decision to swipe a nobleman's wallet or not. Sure, he was being - how did the guy put it? - gifted away, but was this not a better fate than the life he would have continued to lead under the jurisdiction of Hyunsuk, the blacksmith? Hyunsuk had always claimed that Yoongi should be grateful that he'd been taken in at all, claimed that he would have died had the blacksmith not taken pity on him, but Yoongi couldn't find it in him to be grateful to that man. Hyunsuk had, after all, been the first to call him 'Jackson'.
He hadn't bothered telling the nobleman his lawful name. There was no point. He was simply moving from one mode of servitude to another, these people didn't care what his name was. His name, his real one, was something he had complete ownership over. Maybe it was Hyunsuk who had forced a new name on him, but Yoongi liked to think, sometimes, that this alias was something of a shield. It protected his true identity, because Jackson was born of and for servitude, but Yoongi was still free.
Here, in this palace, Yoongi would remain free.
"Come on, hurry up." A light prod on his back brought him back to reality and he stumbled slightly, eyes drifting upwards to see that he was already inside the palace. Remorse filled him instantly, reminding him that, having been lost in his thoughts, he had given up the chance to take one last look at the sky before he was plunged into a new life. Those brief few days between his capture by the nobleman and today had been his first and only days in thirteen years where he was, technically, free. Both Jackson and Yoongi.
But he had missed that opportunity.
The guards, who the nobleman must have picked up on the way in, escorted Yoongi to a set of large, oaken doors. The nobleman stood in front of him, ready to enter first. Yoongi would only be brought in when the time came to present him. Quite honestly, Yoongi wasn't sure what about him made the nobleman think even for an instant that he was fit to serve a prince. He had been dressed in little more than rags when he first attempted thievery and he must have, he thought, looked and smelled disgusting. But the nobleman had had him cleaned and dressed in new clothes and he supposed that he was deemed presentable.
"...Your Highness, I have brought a present for Prince Mika, to celebrate this most important occasion." Yoongi hadn't been listening very well, but the guards standing by him moved a little closer. He felt suffocated, but he couldn't tell if it was more so due to his clothes or to the proximity of the guards.
"Please, allow me to present Jackson."
He felt as though he were being paraded in. All eyes were on him and Yoongi resisted the urge to smirk. Why, he might as well be a celebrity!
The illusion was broken when he was forced to his knees, but with his head bowed, he could allow himself a small, humorless smile. The nobleman kept talking, but Yoongi heard none of it. He didn't want to hear any of it. The man was talking about him, he knew it instinctively, but what, really, was there to talk about? He's an orphan. He's been following orders for practically his entire life. He was picked up on the streets. That was all there was to him. That was his life story.
Whatever the nobleman decided to say to make Yoongi seem better, it was all lies or exaggeration. Because, really, there was nothing about him worth saying.

{ Ah, I see. I work a part-time job as well, but what I earn isn't nearly enough for me to live off of. I always say I'm ready for when I have to move out, but I'm not looking forward to having to deal with rent and the bills and all that on my own }

(I'll probably be online every day or every other day.)
Having expected the visitors for a while now, Mika, along with the rest of his family, had been waiting patiently, all of them poised and seated for their guests’ arrival. In all honesty, he was somewhat tired from the wait. He’d received a longwinded lecture from Mother Dearest shortly before, again about etiquette and appearances. Just listening to her go on about a few stray strands of hair that had fallen out of place on his head was taxing.
Then there was the uncomfortable looks he kept seeing on the faces of the staff members. The pale Northern woman, Valkoinen, who served as his combat trainer kept exchanging looks with the doctor from the Eastern lands. He’d never seen such pitying looks on her face before and it made him worry. The doctor, Julian, looked more nervous than usual, his eyes repeatedly fleeting to the ground at his feet. Their behavior started to make more sense when the doors opened and their guests entered.
He recognized the nobleman’s face from a few social gatherings his parents had held over the years, but for the life of him, he couldn’t recall the man’s name. Oh no… Embarrassing, but not hard to hide. He heard his parents welcome the man to their home, though everyone fell silent when the nobleman introduced the man - no, that was a boy - behind him.
The silence felt so different from everyone else. From his parents, he could recognize expectation, but the staff seemed uneasy. Valkoinen’s displeasure showed in her eyes, but the rest of her face was steeled. Julian, still nervous.
A small hiss from his mother made him snap his eyes forward, back to the nobleman and the boy as he spoke. This was the gift? Well this was unexpected… He did his best to keep his expression blank, waiting for the man to finish speaking. How was he supposed to respond to receiving a person? He knew his parents had both received staff members as gifts from other before, but he’d never witnessed these exchanges before. When receiving any gift, he knew he was meant to be gracious and polite, but that didn’t feel right at all.

{ Okie, I'll try to do the same }
In all honesty, Yoongi had never seen the royal family up close before. Sure, he seen their ornate carriages passing by once or twice, but had never been able to see their faces. When he dared look up to really see these people for the first time was when he was prompted once again to his feet by the guards. He chanced a glance at the King and Queen, then the Prince. They looked expectant, or the King and Queen did, but the Prince just seemed...blank. Neutral. There were others standing by and Yoongi recognized them as staff; they looked uncomfortable and he wondered if the discomfort was for or about him.
When the guards turned him around and began to lead him out of the hall, it was to take him to the prince's living quarters. His first time meeting the prince would be there. Because they couldn't very well have him approach Mika now and possibly make a fool of himself. After all, he hadn't been bred for this. He'd had all of three days worth of training for this role and Jackson, nevermind Yoongi, hardly felt prepared at all.
And once again, he had to question why the nobleman had got it in his head that Yoongi would be a good candidate for this. Perhaps it was just that the man had been running short on time. Yes, that was likely it.
The guards dropped him off, locked the doors behind him, and Yoongi was met with this extravagant room that would have been able to fit two families of four where he came from. Why anyone would need such a large bed to themselves, Yoongi wouldn't know, but he knew that what he was feeling was envy. The blacksmith's quarters were barely an eighth the size of this. He situated himself in one of the chairs sitting against the wall, eyes scraping greedily over the tapestries and jewels adorning the place.
But he had to remind himself that this wasn't where he would be staying. They had passed a door on the way here and one of the guards had explained that it led to the servants' quarters. He'd have to somehow find his way back there after night falls. Because he might be here to serve a prince, but Yoongi had no claim to any of these luxuries.

Mika had done well to remain composed and polite, though he hadn't really gotten to say more than a few words to the nobleman before his parents took over the conversation. As soon as everyone was dismissed and he was allowed to get out of the chair, he was on his feet. He stepped out into the hall and spotted Julian retreating elsewhere.
"Julian, wait a moment." He called.
Though his tone had no bite or resentment, the doctor flinched a bit, but he stopped and turned back to face him. "Yes, what can I help you with?" He asked quietly.
Mika hesitated a moment. Julian had always been fairly nervous, though he'd never gotten to ask why. It wasn't really any of his business and he did good work, so there never seemed to be a reason to question. "You knew. You and Valkoinen, and probably all the rest of the staff. I saw it on your faces. Why didn't you warn me he was bringing.... that he was giving me a person?" He asked.
Julian sighed, dipping his head in apology. "I'm sorry, I wasn't sure if it was true. It was just a rumor. I didn't want to misinform you."
Mika had been ready to ask more questions, like what was he supposed to do now, but he could see Julian's discomfort growing and he nodded. "That is all, thank you." As the doctor gave a small bow and began to retreat once more, he tried to decide what now? Was he ready to go address the boy? Not really. He sort of wanted to avoid that for a little bit. There was plenty of distractions between here and his quarters. Was it right to just leave the person waiting? Probably not... With a small sigh, he started walking toward his quarters. He couldn't help but to drag his feet a little bit and he stopped for a brief conversation or two. Just to give himself time to think about what to say.
Finally he found himself in front of the doors to his quarters. Never before had the room seemed so unwelcoming. He watched one of the guards standing at either side of the doors unlock it for him, and with a small breath, he pushed the door open and stepped in.

All too soon, it seemed, Yoongi heard footsteps approaching. He sat still, watching the door as though doing that might make the footsteps go right on by. No such luck. He heard the sound of a key being pushed into the lock, of the key turning and the lock clicking into place. As the door opened, Yoongi forced himself to his feet, forced himself to walk into the center of the room and kneel, as he had been instructed to do. With his head bowed, his blonde locks had nowhere to go but in front of his face, nearly hiding him from view. He recognized the sound of footsteps coming in, the sound of the door slipping back into its place, but he didn't look up.
"My lord." He felt his throat constrict around those words, trying not to gag on them because this wasn't who he was. Yoongi had been a fighter, not one to submit so easily. But Jackson understood survival and where Yoongi wanted to fight, he wanted only to get by. This was already a step up from their previous position, Jackson understood that, and Jackson would not fight it because being here gave them a better chance than staying with that blacksmith. Because here, Jackson could count on eating every day and having a place to sleep. He was grateful for that, and if Yoongi saw this a worse form of imprisonment, then so be it.
So Yoongi waited for the prince to speak. To say something, say anything that would give Yoongi more information about what he was doing here, to tell him what was expected of him and what his life was going to be like. And he had to remember that here, much like with Hyunsuk, it was better to be Jackson than it was to be Yoongi. Because Jackson took what came to him and he didn't complain, he didn't cause trouble the way Yoongi desperately wished he could. But he had to remember that before he could be free, he had to survive, and Jackson knew how to survive.
