*This may SPOIL some details about the newer books* I'll be frank: Jayfeather seriously needs to mature.
Okay, I love Jayfeather to pieces. But of what I read in Bramblestar's Storm, he hasn't changed at all since Po3. Sure, he knows more in terms of experience, but he hasn't matured. At all.
I love his dry wit as much as the next Jayfeather fan, but it could've rounded out and been less I'm a jerk.
When he was young, him being a jerk was part of being immature. But now, he's a full-grown cat, as well as a medicine cat, who're supposed to be wise.
Putting aside my growing distaste for the quality of the new books, Jayfeather seems incomplete. If you remember, Firestar was once immature and naïve, but look what he became. That's character developement, and I feel like Jayfeather was just tossed aside in that department.
What're your thoughts, fellow fans? Agree or disagree? I'm not going to tolerate any kind of whining or yelling, though. I want intelligent discussion.

At this point, I just don't bother with OoTS and anything after, because of the drastic decline in the quality of the books. So, yes, he didn't mature, but the authors can't remember he's blind most of the time either, or any of the cats' true personalities or appearances. That aside, yes, I think his attitude should've improved. Many adolescents have problems with their behavior, especially in difficult times, but most learn to move on and adjust or cope. The ones who don't are considered rude and immature. So why would any cat still tolerate Jayfeather's behavior? Once in a while is okay, but ALL the time? Being blind is no longer a good excuse.
P.S: This is from a person whose favorite cat in the series used to be Jayfeather, so I am in no way a hater.

I agree completely. He's not really Jayfeather anymore, just an annoying character who occasionally says something funny. In terms of how he treats Blossomfall, I see this as the true Jayfeather. Not too harsh, but tough enough to keep her motivated. That's the Jayfeather I always saw, underneath the bratty attitude. He can keep his wit, but as I mentioned before, he hasn't improved. It really urks me to know this is because of the new Erins

Exactly, I always thought he'd grow out of the "bratty" phase, but retain his analytical skills (which, imo, are his greatest strength) and his resolve. I thought he'd still be somewhat emotionally detached on the surface, but beneath care very deeply for those he loves. Instead, he remained Jaykit.

I saw him turn into a very wise, cold type of medicine cat, with a surprising passion for his Clanmates. Of course, he should also be deeply scarred, emotionally, because of the experiences that he went through. That only aides in his wisdom and strength of character. Meanwhile, he can be a smart-Alec and yell at annoying kits, but they still follow him because they know he's not a mean ol' coot. He would also be giving advice to cats, because if anyone could, it's Jayfeather

I thought I was the only one who noticed how much Jayfeather changed in TAQ.
I have to admit though, his mother-and-son relationship with Leafpool was really sweet, but Jayfeather seems very harsh now.
For example:
At the Gathering, he told everyone to shut up:
Now, it could be because he lost his power and he's blind completely now, but it still bothers me how much Jayfeather's changed. Jayfeather lost his power in Bramblestar's Storm too, and he seemed okay in that book.
I just don't like how fast Jayfeather changed in TAQ. I loved him in Omen of the Stars, but now he's almost a jerk to me. I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed him change.

Yup, I completely agree. Too bad they didn't do more with his character. I also felt like his role (in the prophecy) never quite reached its climax. I don't know if I'm being too vague, but it felt like there was something missing at the end.

And when Alderpaw believed he finally did something right, Jayfeather didn't bother to praise him. In fact, he was angry.
Jayfeather didn't even praise Alderpaw for doing the right thing. He only told him what he should and shouldn't do. Yes, it's good to tell him that he should only do what he was told, but Alderpaw didn't do anything wrong and he should have been praised for that, then Jayfeather made him go to the regular apprentice duties.
I don't like Jayfeather that much anymore. He was great in OotS, but now he's just really crabby and impatient. Even more than usual.

I felt so sorry for Alderpaw. He was young, and while helping without permission was rather foolish, he did do the right thing. Instead, he felt guilty for helping just because Jayfeather was impatient. If I were Leafpool, I would have told him to apologize and praised him myself!

He was almost evolving into a great medicine cat, but it's like because he lost his powers he snapped back to snarky Jaypaw. OoS was where he really stood out, imo. He was serious, stood as a pillar of reason when compared to his siblings, and was a force to be reckoned with as a voice of reality. He was starting to sympathize with Leafpool and realize his poor treatment of others. I really miss when the original Erins would write the books enthusiastically. Now, Harper Collins just wants them to make money and even forced them to take on more people.

I don't know if I'm being too vague, but it felt like there was something missing at the end. I actually felt the same way. There could've been something to climax his powers or story. Instead, it's like he never had powers, like walking in others' dreams

I thought Jaypaw was fine. He's just your casual, bratty apprentice who ended up maturing and accepting the prophecy, which is very good, and realistic development.
I don't know what happened in TAQ. Perhaps he changed because he lost his power, but still, he was fine in Bramblestar's Storm. I hope he'll soften up and respect Alderheart more.

I think he treated Alderpaw poorly. It's like Alderpaw is supposed to not get anything right, so they make the entire Clan against him (I also haven't finished VoS, so I can't speak for anything past a few chapters).
Jayfeather would've never scolded him so harshly, simply because of his own experience. He would've corrected his behavior and praised him, but warn him very seriously to not do it again (in a Bramblestar-esque kinda way). He isn't mean, just a little snappy.

He's a good apprentice. It's just that he can be a mousebrain sometimes....and it annoys me. See how I am doing in my next book, Thunder and Shadow!
