Before Littlecloud died I'm not understanding why Leafpool couldn't have just stayed in ShadowClan. I mean someone even hinted out that a medicine cat was the last thing that they needed. Littlecloud never had an apprentice who genuinely wanted to train along his side since Flametail died.
I understand that Leafpool has family in her Clan, but didn't ShadowClan need her more? Puddleshine was just picked out of random and even she was horrified. When Cinderpelt was picked as a medicine cat she got a few signs wrong because she was never meant to be a medicine cat. What if the same thing happened to Puddleshine? He could be putting his Clan in danger if he got a sign from StarClan wrong.
If Rowanstar wasn't so prideful (which can be very annoying sometimes) maybe there would have been a chance for Leafpool to stay in ShadowClan permanently. I understand that Jayfeather needed her help but he was already fully trained while ShadowClan has no medicine cat.
Honestly this makes me angry that Flametail died unnecessarily and just for drama, mind you. OotS was so poorly planned that it has affected ShadowClan. I do not like Flametail but he was still a strong cat who willingly wanted to train as a medicine cat and now they're forcing a little kit to be trained as one. Why did they have to kill Flametail? For another pointless plot filler, because OotS is such a mess? Flametail was needed.

I mean, just the fact that Leafpool didn't want to stay in ShadowClan is a good enough reason for me. I get that they needed a medicine cat but Leafpool was doing them enough of a favor by offering to stay and train someone. It would have been incredibly unfair if she was forced to live in a foreign Clan forever. She and ThunderClan didn't owe ShadowClan anything. It would have been cruel of TC to deny helping SC but they can't just... give away their medicine cat. ShadowClan is my favorite Clan and I do think they deserved help, but it would have been beyond stupid of Bramblestar to just hand Leafpool over and say 'yeah you can keep her'. Leafpool also has a right to decide where she stays, and I don't think she would ever willingly go live with another Clan. She loves ThunderClan too much.
I do agree with you about Flametail, though. I get that when the erins killed him they didn't plan for a 6th arc, but come on... I wish they killed Littlecloud instead (sorry littlecloud ily). OOTS could have ended with ShadowClan having a young, competent medicine cat instead of an old man. Flame was also one of my favorite characters so I'm pretty sad he died just because of that lol
The Erin's could have planned it better too. If they had just stuck with the original plan of having Puddlepaw start out as Littlecloud's apprentice, Leafpool could have just come to finish up his training and it wouldn't seem as harsh on Puddleshine. I mean, he wasn't even apprentice age when he was chosen to be a med cat and he had to learn everything in like... 2 months (when normally it takes med cats 8+ months to finish their training). poor dude needs a nap lol

I agree with Anubis, I don't think she'd want to stay in a clan like that, the situation between SC and Darktail could have been worse too. Darktail could have held Leafpool as a prisoner to get TC in their pocket.

Plus what if Leafpool dies while in SC? SC still doesn't have a full medicine cat at the time of TAS, and Jayfeather leaving to train the apprentice leaves his Clan without a full medicine cat and in the same situation. As rushed as the training was, I could see why things turned out the way they did.
Before anyone asks about Riverclan and Windclan, I don't think WC has two full medicine cats at that point, and Mothwing's out because of her lack of faith. So TC was the best choice...
As for Flametail's death, I actually don't mind it, but I don't like what the Erins did with it... It had been hinted much earlier in the series that exploring the possibility of a Clan losing their only medicine cat and being left with an apprentice (or no one) would be interesting plot point. In TAS, this exact situation finally comes up, but it's never explored at all. It's very frustrating because it could've made an excellent development, but instead it just seems wasted.
I'm also not counting the situation with Cloudberry (elderly medicine cat of RC who took over when the TC one, Ravenwing, was killed by Mapleshade. The reason being is that the entire transition took place offscreen, even if the death of the previous medicine cat didn't. So again, it was never explored.

RiverClan technically didn't owe ThunderClan anything when Cloudberry was sent to be ThunderClan's medicine cat. ThunderClan truly doesn't need three medicine cats and given she has the most experience, she was the best choice. She should have stayed in ShadowClan, and then moved to ThunderClan with Rowanstar, Tigerheart, and Tawnypelt until ShadowClan's situation was resolved. So I don't get why she had to come back to ThunderClan permanently.
