When Ononoki took it upon herself to lead them off in a direction The Doctor was dragged along with the rest of them. "I'm not sure," she said. She'd ended up walking along side the Tenno, but she was sure the other alien would be moving away soon. It was just how things seemed to be going while they were in this 'room'. She checked over her shoulder, at the place they'd left, and watched as the thin strip of trail disappeared into the trees. The Doctor wasn't at all sure what was going to happen in this direction or even if Ononoki had any sort of plan. But either direction was as good as the other. They didn't know where they were going. If this was a 'room' then would there be an exit that would actually be a door? As far as she'd seen, there didn't seem to be edges to this room. It reminded her a bit of another time. One she'd rather not think about ... "Volt's right," she said to Neb. "Ya seem to be one of the few who actually know what's going on around here. How do ya usually exit a room?"

"Oh, it's a room in the Paradox House but I don't know much more than that," Eliyen replied to the Doctor. She would have actually been very interested in the fact that this new blinker could travel interdimensionally and through time if she hadn't misunderstood her and thought she was referring to blinking and traveling in her own world like Eliyen had been. "Hm, no name, just 'The Doctor'? Interesting title, is there-" she paused when the girl with the turquoise hair and odd yellow boots started to walk to to the woods. Eliyen wasn't really one to worry about other people much, but she didn't want to see a kid get hurt. "'Ey, don't run too far ahead of the rest of us," she warned, then started after her, Neb and Volt. She cast a glance over her shoulder to see if the Doctor was following before shrugging in response to Volt's question. "Eh, whatever I can get paid for. Haven't had many interesting jobs lately though," she sounded a bit disappointed. "Can't say I'm too surprised about that though, the plague tends to drive off most people and I'm not sure why people want most of the stuff I get sent after anyway."

“You’ll have to tell me it sometime so I can give it a try.” As for Kelsier, learning that Maladict was actually Maladicta didn’t really affect him at all. Mostly, his mental profile of the vampire just did a quick update, and he was good to go. That, and the fact that he couldn’t help thinking of Mare now. He guessed she would have done something similar if the Lord Ruler has cared about gender, and since he really didn’t she had been able to try and help kill him without any pesky disguises. Thinking about her made him smile. Bittersweet was a good word for it. Or maybe a little bit wistful. He pulled his attention back to the other blinker and nodded. “Swearing off blood was probably a good call if you want people to hang out with you.” He couldn’t help teasing a bit, but the more serious look didn’t quite leave his hazel eyes just yet. “I wish I could turn into a bird...I'd go for something a little bit more intimidating than a magpie though. Not that the feathers aren’t very pretty, but have you ever seen an eagle?” There was a bird he’d like to be, powerful wings beating the air as he flew high, high enough that the ash couldn’t choke him. He let himself imagine that for a long moment. “Anyway, I’m a mistborn. I can draw different powers from certain metals I ingest, like the vials I drank in the room earlier.” It felt like the polite thing to do, after Mal had explained everything they could do, to share his cards as well. “Typically I'll use those, which are alcohol solutions with a blend of metal filings, but I can use anything I can swallow as long as it’s the right type. I’d show you one, but I used the last one trying not to get eaten by invisible wolves, so....” The vampire chuckled. "Yes. I thought so as well. That's what this means, by the way." They pointed at a black ribbon on their lapel. "I'm part of the Vampires' League of Temperance, or black ribboners." Dropping their hand, Mal pointed out, "My family had a run in with some humans a while back. It was a bit of an eye-opener for me at least." Esme Weatherwax was terrifying, for starters. They snorted, surprised at Kelsier's suggestion. "I didn't get much of a choice. Could say it's the genetics. The rest of my family turn into magpies as well. It's our family animal. Most vampires turn into bats - like, one vampire turns into a flock of bats. Turning into a single creature that's smaller than the other ... it gives me a headache." They didn't look like they had one, apart from maybe a slight tightening of muscles around their jaw. "I've seen an eagle though. Large birds with hooked talons. I'm not sure if I could imagine you as an eagle. A slightly bedraggle pigeon, perhaps?" They sounded amused and far more relaxed at this point. Mal seemed more interested in the description of mistborns. They hadn't heard of them before. "That's interesting. So, silver, gold, bronze? Things like that? Wouldn't that become expensive?" “Makes sense.” Kelsier have the black ribbon a closer look. It did look significant now that he was paying attention to it, although it had nothing specific about it. Probably because this club for nice vampires who don’t eat people anymore didn’t sound extremely public. “I’ve heard about the bats.” He continued thoughtfully, although he had to reach a bit for that knowledge. Hadn’t Sazed said something about a vampire cult once? He thought he’d mentioned it having something to do with bats and drinking blood. The mistborn burst out laughing at Maladicta’s comment about the bird, doubling over as it built up almost painfully in his chest before he released it. It took a moment for him to pull himself back together, and then he was breathless and his cheeks were flushed red as he straightened up and grinned. “Bedraggled? Me? I’m as far from bedraggled as it’s possible to get.” He extended both arms to show off the gray strips of his mistcloak, which moved separately enough to ripple but together enough to look part of the same shape the ripples made. “I’m mysterious and beautiful, and this cloak suits me perfectly.” The subject of his metals distracted him from that train of thought, and he pressed his lips together in thought. “Well, those are a few, although not silver so much and gold is practically useless. As for the rest, there’s ten in all and eight physical ones a mistborn can use. Two for every power, with opposite and equal strengths.” He was low on most of his metals at the moment, and unfortunately out of pewter entirely, but he pulled a coin from his pocket and showed it to the other blinker anyway. “For example, If a burn steel, I can Push this coin away from me.” He did, and the coin shot away, hitting the opposite wall with a light snap. It stayed there until he extinguished the metal and let it fall to the floor. “And if I burn iron, I can Pull it back towards me, like so.” The coin flipped and sped up into his hand. He caught it effortlessly and smiled, giving away how pleased he was to have an audience for this. He didn’t get to impress people on purpose very often. “There are others, and there are rules about how they work, but I’m low on them after our little adventure.”

To answer The Doctor's question, Ononoki simply kept walking; it was a display rather than a verbal answer. She did in fact tend to walk around until she was out of each room, or simply accompany another blinker out which didn't seem to be happening this time. Although that could be a little misleading; in reality, she had no need to be out of the rooms at all. Or rather, her desire to escape them was less of a need than a motion she went through without variety. In the bumper car room, her solution had been to blast a hole in the nearest wall. In this room, it was to walk until she found an exit. Yes, she truly had no idea where the exit was, and she was only walking and walking until, ideally one day, she would find it. As an added benefit, it seemed to ebb the conflict between The Doctor and Volt. Even though she was moving aimlessly, she was plenty aware that if she voiced it aloud it would only make the arguments and such strike up again. She purposefully kept quiet and followed her feet, leaving her arms limp and her bright green eyes vacant.

"Must be hard sometimes." Volt could sympathize with the thief, in an odd way. "Are there any planets nearby that the plague hasn't reached?" She ducked under a branch that Ononoki had simply walked beneath. The human(?) child seemed rather determined to just keep going. It would be interesting to see what happened if they reached a cliff or river. She cast a cursory glance around to check on the rest of the little "squad" and a little surprised to see The Doctor choose to stay nearby, given the Gallifreyian's rather strong opinions. Also that Volt had shouted at her. The Tenno predicted the woman would not appreciate her next comment, but there wasn't really any helping that. "Surviving won't be an issue." She kept her tone very matter-of-fact. It wouldn't be, provided that no other friendlies showed up right in the middle of the fight and looked like threats. "What do you mean "appear?""

"Oh it can be," Eliyen commented, but if it bothered her she didn't let it show. She raised a brow at the mention of other planets. "I don't know that I'd call it another planet exactly, but there is a place... it's called the New World," she paused, her tone changing ever so slightly, an almost undetectable hint of pain that disappeared as fast as it had come. "I haven't met anyone who knows how to open a portal though and the ones that pop up every now and then aren't stable and you never know where they'll be. 'Far as I know there hasn't been a known stable one in... eh, centuries probably." She held up her daggers in agreement with Volt's comment about surviving the room. "That won't be an issue for me either!" she added.

The Doctor had been paying attention to what Eliyen and Volt had been saying about Eliyen's world. She glanced back at the thief, face briefly sympathetic, before she said in answer to the question, "Just The Doctor." It was an old question, but she wanted an excuse to ease back into what Eliyen was discussing. "So ... the New World you mentioned. Like another dimension?" After all, they were apparently in one. It probably wasn't much of a stretch to assume that Eliyen might be in contact with another. She looked ahead again, at the girl in yellow galoshes, and where they were heading. She was actually already thinking over what Neb had said. Survive til the end. "No," she agreed with Volt, for different reasons. "It wont be an issue."

mintedstar/fur --cato phoenix »ƑαƖcση Razzle DazzleNeb was only half paying attention to the second conversation, only listening for when things were directed at her with questions she could answer. "Don't speak so soon," the hero muttered under her breath at the survivability comment. Clearing her throat, she explained louder, "ah, yeah you haven't seen the actual House yet. So there's a hallway with doors, and opening one leads to a room like how we're in now. When the door closes it vanishes, but when we complete the room it'll reappear and take us back to the main part of the House."
Neb skillfully sidestepped a raised root, feet skimming the leaf-strewn ground. She tried to gaze ahead of Ononoki to see if there was anything to note of, but so far it was still just trees and plants. "And hey, sometimes if you're lucky when you're blinked out someone else will have finished the room and you'll just go back to the living room."

"Legends from my reality say it took generations to develop a successful portal." Volt brushed off a tendril of fern that got a little too grabby. She glanced back at Eliyen, curiously watching the subtle shift of expressions across her face. "But if it can be done once, it can be done agai- pfsh." Not paying enough attention to where she was going, as soon as the Tenno turned around she got a facefull of leaves.
Batting the stray branch away, Volt took a moment to register what Neb had said. "The doors "vanish?"" In a dimension where random individuals were suddenly yanked out of their own world and deposited here, she supposed that wasn't unreasonable. Still bizarre. This was sounding more and more like... Hold on. Volt stopped walking. "This isn't some kind of training simulation, is it? Tenshin? Simaris?" The Tenno looked up into the trees as if expecting a voice from above. If it was, she had probably failed by this point.

Ononoki listened keenly to the conversation just behind her as she walked, even though it didn't seem to be the case. She probably would have agreed with Volt, in that she wasn't worried about whatever came at them. If she hadn't even been phased by the wolf-creature charging at her earlier, it was unlikely she would suddenly begin showing worry. She was indeed just short enough to walk under most branches, not bothering to duck. When the group tread over uneven ground, she overcame it without so much as looking down. The only thing that made her stop was when Volt halted behind her, as if she could tell the other blinker was no longer following. Without turning around, she stared blankly onward. "It isn't a simulation," she said in monotone, her first words the entire time they had been walking and more. "...I said with a posed look." At that, she considered the issue to be solved and started to walk again at the same pace as before.

"Yeah," Eliyen replied to The Doctor. "According to the stories, magic doesn't exist there, but neither does the plague. I almost thought this was it when I got thrown in here the first time." She'd been disappointed when she'd realized that it was definitely not the New World, but there was no point in dwelling on it. Hearing Neb's comment, the elf smirked. She fought shades on a daily basis and had pretty much been training to fight all her life. Since coming to the House, people had been telling her left and right how dangerous it was, but she really hadn't seen anything to prove it. "I'm sure I can handle it."She glanced over at Volt again as the Tenno mentioned portals. "Yeah, problem is finding someone who actually knows how to make one. Some people in my world say that's how it started actually- that someone opened a portal to the wrong place and the first shades came out... dunno how true it is though, you know how stories change the more they're told." She stopped talking and turned around when she realized Volt had stopped, her gaze following the Tenno's. She saw nothing but more trees. "I have no idea what or who you're talking about but if you're suggesting that we're just an illusion of some sort I'm gonna have to agree with Blue-Hair and say no."

"True, but they must start somewhere." Volt turned back to Eliyen and shrugged. "It was worth a shot. I'd rather be wrong than have one of those two think I was blind. And right now you would be the last person I'd believe." The Tenno added with an odd look at the small, blue-haired girl. She had met drones with more personality. "Also, what are you?" The question wasn't meant to be accusatory, Volt just didn't want to leave any loopholes. So far it hadn't seemed like anyone had really been able to get much out of the girl, so now that she was in a talking mood...

Steve blinked into the living room, still holding on to the trashcan lid. "-could do this all day," he seemed about to go in for an attack on whoever he was fighting, but he wasn't going to lie - he was grateful that whatever this place was had taken him just before he was about to get pretty badly beaten up. At least he'd have time to prepare, if his last voyage here had been any indication. He dropped the trash can lid, wincing momentarily at the noise before wiping his brow. He looked around again, surprised to see that he seemed to be alone this time. He didn't really understand that. It was weird enough that he appeared here without warning, he didn't need to be alone. Nonetheless... he was curious, and there seemed to be plenty here worth exploring.

Ononoki kept a straight face when a nickname was used toward her even though she had revealed her name, and even when Volt flat-out rejected her insight. "I am an animated corpse," she informed the Tenno earnestly. No more, and no less on that front. "Follow me, Electric Sister," she added in a murmur, "...I said with a posed look." Now she was the one utilizing the nicknames again. In Neb's favor, the doll girl didn't seem interested in slowing her pace to communicate; in fact, she depended on Volt to keep walking if the other blinker were to hear what she was saying in reply. She walked in a nearly perfect straight line, but that was all she had going for her. It was becoming clear she didn't have a particular destination in mind. Additionally, with her colorful striped outfit she might as well have been a flashy road sign telling any predators in the area to stop for a snack.

The Doctor seemed to find this comment from Eliyen the most interesting. "Magic exists in your world?" she checked. Then she paused as Volt started talking to the trees. It was a logical reaction, but she knew it was a useless one. Others had already seemed to cover that it was, however. "I agree with Neb," admitted The Doctor. "We can walk and talk if ya like." She continued following the blue haired girl, senses tuned into what was happening around them. She'd begun to hear water again, but she wasn't sure if they were heading toward it or just walking alongside it yet. "What do ya call ya world?" she questioned Eliyen. There was a slight pause in her step as Ononoki answered the question. Her eyebrows rose. "Are ya really? Is there a story behind that?"

He'd been singing a completely made up song under his breath, but at the loud noise he flinched and jumped back with a yelp that sharply cut off a word which might have been 'sheep'. He looked from the lid, to Steve, to the lid again and then asked, "What sort of tree is silver?" He seemed to recover from the loud noise, adjusted his tunic (for lack of a better word that included more dirt and grim than 'tunic' really did justice to) and took several steps forward and leaned down. His head tilted and he picked up the lid. "Weird ..." he mumbled. Then he leaned forward, sticking his tongue out, and licked the metal lid. His eyes widened by several degrees and he looked down at it. "Weird!" The exclamation seemed to be joyful now. "Did ya make the silver bit of tree, Mister?"

"I... sorry. Just wondering." Volt really wasn't in a place to argue, Neb had a good point. The Tenno jogged a few steps to make sure she was keeping up with the group, quick stepping over the leaf-littered ground. This forest seemed to go on forever, it wasn't unreasonable to check if it was a hologram, right? "That explains a lot." She added to Ononoki, her tone curious. However, Volt didn't want to push her luck. The Doctor seemed to have those questions covered and it was probably best for Volt to just remain quiet by this point since she kept managing to get herself scolded. Vowing to at least try and stay silent, she tried to focus on the task at hand. There had been no more wolf sounds, no appearance of a threat. The trees simply continued as far as could be seen, the undergrowth uninteresting due to the fact they had been walking through the same plants for a while now. What was the point of this?

"Suppose so," Eliyen replied before glancing over at the blue-haired girl, raising her eyebrows at her response. That... wasn't really what she'd been expecting. "Oookay then," she said, starting to walk after her again. She nodded to the Doctor's question and reached up to push a low-hanging branch out of the way. "Yeah, a lot of people use magic there but I prefer to stick with these." She gave the daggers a spin. In truth, she'd never been any good at magic. "My world? It's called [very long name]. Ever heard of it?" She kind of doubted it since everyone seemed to be from very different worlds, but figured she might as well ask.

Not so much as a hint of self-consciousness crossed the doll girl’s face at the reactions around her. Based on the fact that she kept her head forward, she didn’t even register them, otherwise she would perhaps acknowledge them with merely a subtle turn of the torso. “I’m something like a summer research project, created by a bunch of bored college students,” Ononoki told The Doctor when she questioned her. She spoke as if normal college students from any universe even had the capability for necromancy. Well, it was true that it would be considered abnormal for her world too. Her steps over tree roots were smooth but steady and she raised her face slightly then to see through the leaves of the trees overhead. It was as though within her expressionless facade there was something warmer, her stiffness falling away if one inspected closely enough. She showed no signs of stopping, and was comfortable enough gleaning all the information she could about the other blinkers.

Volt's apology at the end caught her attention, and Neb glanced at her for a moment as she resumed her steps. Musing, she wondered briefly if she'd been acting a little too hard, realizing there'd barely been time to catch a breath since blinking in, not to mention with getting attacked by the other alien too. It wouldn't do any good if things stayed tense. She eased her pace so she wasn't following right behind Ononoki and so she'd be able to have a quieter voice towards Volt. "I always feel on edge in rooms, sorry if I've come across as harsh at all." Neb flashed a small smile, fangs just poking out. "And for probably startling you earlier."

Ononoki kept her head in the same position, having no view of the ground while she somehow stepped around obstacles. Her turquoise pigtails trailed behind her ears and bounced slightly in step. It took her a second to answer Neb’s question, and her answer itself was an explanation for the hesitation. “...Is there a difference?” Again she spoke in a monotone murmur, giving no auditory let alone visual cues of whether the question was rhetorical, or perhaps meant for an inquisitive tone rather than a standoffish one. She decided that for Neb, perhaps it would be described as magic. But that just didn’t sound correct.

Then he looked up and grinned at Steve. One of his teeth was missing, but it didn't seem to slow him down. College students? Although the words were unfamiliar, Volt gathered the revelation was surprising to the rest of the group. She couldn't exactly read Ononoki's tone, but had her steps become more deliberate? The question of magic or science was an interesting one. The Tenno wasn't given much of a chance to wonder about the response, though, before Neb suddenly slowed her pace and fell into step next to her.
As the violet-haired girl apologized, Volt glanced at her in surprise, then looked towards the ground, an action done more out of instinct than out of any need to hide expression. "I acted rashly earlier and have done little to ease your mind since." She lowered her volume to match Neb's, shame creeping into her tone. She walked a few more steps in silence as the nodes of light embedded into her armor flickered slightly, uncertain. "I ... am glad you are not injured." The barest hint of a question was in the Tenno's voice. That shock had been meant to damage, yet Neb shook it off after a few minutes. There was no hint now of the monstrous creature that had leapt out of the tree, but whatever Neb had been clearly could take a hit.

The vampire chuckled. "Yes. I thought so as well. That's what this means, by the way." They pointed at a black ribbon on their lapel. "I'm part of the Vampires' League of Temperance, or black ribboners." Dropping their hand, Mal pointed out, "My family had a run in with some humans a while back. “There are others, and there are rules about how they work, but I’m low on them after our little adventure.” The vampire studied the mistborn and then shrugged. "The cloak," they pointed out. "And the hair ... no. I'm pretty sure pigeon was accurate." They rubbed the bottom of their chin, looking down their nose at Kelsier in a playful fashion. It seemed like they'd opened up a lot more. They reached up, adjusting the black ribbon (which had silver letter which said 'not one drop' on it which were only now visible). "Perhaps you should try dressing up less like you are preening?" Mal suggested. This from the vampire in all black and silver, with a widow's peak. They watched as Kelsier put on a show, looking impressed as he caused a coin to shoot from and then return to his hand. "That is impressive!" they admitted. "Seeing a bit more of what you could do when you had more to 'burn' would be very interesting." They had no idea what exactly the limitations were, but it was interesting to know. "Would it be possible to -" they started to ask, only to blink out before Mal could finish. (If you wanted me to reblink I can. But I thought new material to bring in on my end might be interesting. ^^ )

»ƑαƖcση "Depends, but I guess it doesn't really matter," Neb answered Ononoki with a shrug. The most intriguing bit was that it was apparently just done by some students. Now the process of that was something she'd like to hear one day.
Looking back up at Volt, she laughed slightly. "Well, everything wasn't under the best circumstances. As far as first blinks go, that was pretty rough." Even just being able to hear a sense of remorse in Volt's voice was enough for Neb to move past the incident. "It takes way more than that to take me down--" she lifted an arm as if to show off muscle that wasn't even there, most of it was covered by her armor and costume anyway-- "but aside from some hair frizz I'm good. I couldn't tell when I was rolling, did you generate that electricity yourself? Or?" She let her eyes flicker over Volt's swords to finish the rest of the question. --cato phoenixRae blinked in with a tack between her teeth as she tried to stretch up against the wall of the living room. "--want it a bit higher." Her hand grazed over the wall, flexing at the loss of what she'd been doing, and sighed to herself before just tossing the tack onto a shelf of the bookcase. It was then Rae noticed just how quiet it was, which was unusual considering her more recent blinks. She turned around, only at first not seeing anyone thanks to the view of the couch, but when she rounded around she halted so hard she nearly tripped over her own feet.
"Arlo?" Rae's eyes went wide at the state the other was in, and wasting no time, she shook her head and stepped over quickly to crouch beside Arlo's body. Rae couldn't quite remember when she had last seen Arlo, aside from a few sightings her first couple of times back in the House, but to see her like this... "Arlo? Hey, can you hear me?" At least Rae could just see her breathing, so that was a plus. She bit her lip though, trying to decide what best to do to help if Arlo didn't come to soon.

[[ Living Room || Arlo || dawn ]] Arlo muttered something incoherent at the sound of a voice saying her name. When the voice spoke again, she forced her eyes open. "Unless someone's coming..." she started, her agitation at being woken fading as her surroundings slowly came into focus, as well as the young woman who was crouching beside her and talking. For a few moments, Arlo just looked at her in shock. She hadn't expected to come back at all, but she'd expected this even less. "Rae..?" she murmured finally. She blinked a couple times, half expecting her to disappear, for her and the House to be nothing more than a dream or a hallucination, but the other blinker was still there.
