Ononoki - living room, going into hallway - enj, riddle, steve, anyone else who wants to be involved
As if following an invisible compass, Ononoki walked straight ahead out toward the hallway. She made no sidesteps, instead turning her whole body if she needed to adjust to the left or right. It was like watching an NPC in a video game. The gum-faced girl moved her striped legs robotically, and turned her head robotically, acknowledging Enjolras and Steve when they expressed concern but not bothering to assure them she knew what she was doing. She did know what she was doing, as she had seen several rooms before, but it was probably good practice to not let a kid wander alone. She indeed still had Riddle's handkerchief, and no intention of returning it to him. Instead it had been left on top of her head, like a second hat.

“I know you do.” Noah’s voice was quiet. He couldn’t agree. Life was something very specific and precious to him, and although he knew Rue considered what she had living, he couldn’t. Once you died… well, you could achieve an approximation of life, but never life itself. He didn’t have a word for what he and Rue had. Even if he did, he doubted that any one word could encompass both of them. They were the same, but they were so, so different. Because Rue still had to eat. Rue could still be killed, technically. If you forced him to give an answer, he would have said that Rue was a lot closer to living than Noah would ever be. Still, he couldn’t help but see the parallels. “Does it matter what word I use?” He asked softly, not quite looking at her. They had gotten most of the larger shards picked up and more or less put back together. There were still hundreds of tiny shards that he wasn’t sure they would ever be able to pick up, but what they had was certainly a start. “Choosing to keep existing isn’t selfish,” Noah replied firmly, finally looking up at Rue. “Selfish is deciding that your existence… or something you have… is worth more than someone else’s existence.” He was thinking about Whelk again. The last friend he’d ever had. Why was it that friendships tended to go south without him noticing? Well… he supposed that this one was entirely his fault, even if it had just been a misunderstanding. “I’m glad you’re still here. And I hope you never have reason to regret your choice.” Coming from someone else that might have sounded passive aggressive, but from Noah it was genuine. He really hoped that whatever life as a vampire meant, it didn’t mean being aware of yourself as you slipped from humanity. He couldn’t see the future. He didn’t know. But he was still afraid of what Rue might become. I hope he added silently, that you never become something the you from today would despise. Was that a selfish wish? Perhaps. She could still be happy, even if she became something she wouldn’t like. But Noah didn’t want her to have that kind of happiness. Not at the expense of the girl who was his friend. But that was a future that Noah need not worry about. It wasn’t his future, and who was he to have a say in Rue’s? He was silent for a few more moments, just taking in what Rue had to say. He couldn’t ask her to apologize for her choice. He wouldn’t do that, not when he understood now what the choice had been. But he did listen to her apology for the misunderstanding. That had been half his fault. He wished he could take back their whole last conversation. He wished he could start over and ask her calmly what she had done, ask her and genuinely listen to her about why she had chosen what she did. That would have saved a lot of heartache. The worries Noah was currently holding close to his chest would be the same, but at least… at least they’d still be on good terms without any of this… uncertainty. “I said that before I understood,” he replied, shaking his head. He forced himself to look at Rue for this part. “And I didn’t mean you, I just meant…” he gave a heavy sigh, staring momentarily at the ground. “I’m scared for you,” he admitted softly, “Scared that you’re going to become something that isn’t you, and I didn’t want to watch you lose yourself to it, because you wanted it or… or something. I didn’t want to see you hurt people and enjoy it. I thought… when you said you chose this… I thought that was what that meant.” He shrugged, turning his attention back to the snow globe. Carefully, he tried one piece against the other, frowning as their sides didn’t quite line up. “I’m sorry I misunderstood so deeply.” He watched her carefully, his attention mostly on her hands and the shards she was holding, but also on her eyes. “It would be rather hypocritical to judge you for being a dead thing,” he returned very quietly, trying just for a moment to catch her gaze, “especially considering you didn’t have a choice to stay alive. I’d rather you be here and dead than dead and gone.”

Steve | living room | Hallway gang They caught on. It was going to happen eventually, its not like he could hide what had happened to him. Steve offered Madoka a conflicted smile, seeing how she beat Riddle to the punch. Their concern evident, he wanted to protest they had bigger fish to fry. Yet he stood in the living room contemplating what he would say to what? To a middle schooler, acting tough, playing the hero, would would be a good thing? Even the strongest people could be knocked down. His brow furrowed in concern feeling himself slowly coming to the conclusion everyone else was having about him. "Yeah, yeah, I'll live." The older teen nodded off, as if he were convincing himself his weakness wouldn't get in the way. He glanced at the revolutionaries direction. Bringing himself into this was not helping that even Enjolras had gone after the straggler when they were still fussing over a mild concussion. Not like anyone could poof away his unremarkable injuries. "I just...got in a bad spot, okay? We should probably stop that kid from going off on her own." He wanted to have standards - maybe to rub it in a certain someone's face. Mr. perfect was already expecting Mr. Cool to get back into line like the good student he never was.

hallway | everyone, mostly steve With everyone and Steve himself brushing off the concerning nature surrounding his appearance, Madoka had little else to do than go with the flow as the group focused back in on making sure Ononoki didn't wander into a room all by herself. Still, as the others began the hallway trek, she sidled up next to Steve, still fretful in her mannerisms.
"I'm Madoka," she began. "I can help you. If you'd like, I mean," she added, worried suddenly if the teen had a pride he didn't want stepped on. She'd have to accept that if that was the case, as much as she hated to have to ignore someone's injuries.

Vincent leaned back slightly with a raised eyebrow, smiling at the strained response he’d gotten. “Am I...welcome to join you?” He clarified carefully, giving pause as if he were choosing his words gingerly. There was certainly something different about this blinker, or perhaps he had just become incredibly stressed since they’d last spoke. Either way, he was far more entertaining in this state. "Do what you like!" Arthur said over his shoulder, eyeing Vincent very briefly. There wasn't a lot to be said about the inappropriately stiff blond other than the fact that he was the only one around. Sadly, that made him the only pick for whatever was going on here. Arthur supposed that even a gruff man like him was possibly going to produce some sort of insight. "What do you think about ...?" asked Arthur, only nodding toward the hallway and the doors that he could see lining it by way of explanation. Vincent chuckled to himself, pleased at how easily Arthur was getting worked up. He folded his hands behind his back and began to the trail the other blinker, given that he hadn’t been denied an invitation to join him. The blond’s eyes moved from Arthur to the hallway doors, then back to Arthur as the alchemist pointed them out. The question earned a brief look of slack confusion, his eyebrows together after a moment - smirking skeptically. “Are you offering to do a room?” He asked somewhat impatiently, still seeming perplexed by the conversation’s sudden change of pace, though choosing his words cautiously to avoid walking into some kind of trap. He wasn’t entirely sure what Arthur was asking him, particularly since he’d thought the man’s intention had been to go into a room all along.

"I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about?" Myrnin asked, in all seriousness. He didn't have any idea. He just blinked at Rue in confusion. "What sort of sign?" Then he headed after Vincent, glancing back to see that Rue was following. What a weird comment. He did enter the hallway without any hesitation. This made things a bit easier for him, all things considered, since it meant he had a purpose. More than that, he actually could aim for a door. "I'm opening a dooooooooor," he purred. He rested a hand on the handle, then slowly pushed the door open. He glanced behind him and then sort of ... tiptoed into the room. And was at once hit by a blast of snow. ®Hawkpath® ~∂єѕтιиу | hallway/then snow | Myrnin

(Hope I didn't jump in a bit too early jdjxjd. Since they've barely entered the room yet.)
To the Lodge | Open for whomstever The momentary silence of the standoff was shattered by a crack that spilt the air. That 'warning shot', if it could even be called that, passed nary a hairs width away from the Primarch's head. He felt the heat as it passed along the side of his face, drawing a cut in its trail. Unwavering, he simply let out an annoyed scoff, shifting the crate he was toting in his arms to a more comfortable position. These fools were stirring up all this trouble. All over a box of vegetables... Sandalphon glanced again at the circle of people around him, who, most certainly only in their own words, were the 'bosses of these parts'. Before, he had been on his way back to the airship from a nearby village with some extra stores for the larder, only for this group of... 'individuals', to emerge from the trees and demand he hand over his cargo as somekind of 'toll' for safe passage through the forest. He would've preferred for them to just turn tail and beat it, but if the way they laughed off his warnings, along with that latest attempt at intimidating him were anything to go by, things weren't going to be that simple. "If you won't move, fine." The Primarch said simply, nonchalantly leaning over and dropping his crate, like he'd finally relented and was about to leave it there for one of the gang members to come up and take. The snort of satisfaction from their leader, however, was suddenly cut off. "I have people who need this food depending on me, and while it's unbefitting to keep them waiting, I also can't allow a bunch of sleazy riffraff to keep harassing those who use these roads any longer. Can I?" Face twisting in anger and spent patience, the bandit leader ordered his men to attack, raising his own weapon again to take another shot. Sandalphon responded in kind, taking a defensive stance while quickly reaching for his sword. This wouldn't take long. Once he knocked enough of them senseless, he knew they'd all scatter, and hopefully cease this nonsense altogether. At least, that had been the plan, when the world suddenly went blinding white, forcing him to shield his eyes. Accompanied by biting cold wind, the solid ground underfoot was now unstable, and he felt himself sink about a foot into what he realized was snow. This place again. Picking the most inopportune time as usual.Once he regained his senses from the instant climate shift, Sandalphon made an effort to take in his new setting. What was previously warm, pleasant forest now resembled somewhere straight in the middle of the Northern Vast. His cargo no longer rested at his feet either, which was a relief. It's contents would've spoiled instantly in this clime. Allowing himself to relax now that there was a lull in the action, he idly lifted a hand up to assess the wound he bore. It wasn't too serious and would start to mend itself shortly, but there was no doubting that familiar fresh warmth that greeted his touch.

“Right.” Rue grimaced slightly as her attempt at a joke failed horribly. Note to self: don’t joke about things you don’t understand. She shook her head slightly, then followed Myrnin, giving Vincent a quick glance as she passed him into the hallway. She didn’t trust him. Her gut said she shouldn’t start. She stepped into the hall, following Myrnin, then stopped when he did and looked curiously at the door. She didn’t have time to say anything, though before he stepped through it, and she hesitated only a moment before following. The cold slammed into her and she let out a little gasp, stumbling to the side as her feet suddenly sank into the soft snow. “Cold!” She yelped, straightening up and hugging herself. Then she realized she couldn't actually feel it like she should. Which was... Nice.

Vincent pushed himself off the door frame as Myrnin and Rue came towards him, standing to the side to let both vampires pass and moving after them. He caught glimpse of Rue’s suspicious eye on him, giving her a quick, easy to miss raise of his eyebrow and smirk as she walked by. He continued down after the pair in silence, giving Myrnin a sideways glance as he opened the door but not saying anything before he stepped in. Cold air rushed towards him as his feet sunk into snow. He had to squint as his eyes adjusted to the bright white light of the room, slowly wrapping his arms around himself as the wind pierced through the fabric of his sleeves. It was a terrible blink for him to be missing his jacket, but that was how the House worked he supposed. His sigh rose with a satisfying cloud of warmth as he scanned the expanse of snow, glancing towards Myrnin and Rue expectantly.

Hook raised his eyebrows in mild surprise at Nico’s response, not having expected such a strong response. “Aight,” he drawled, speaking mostly to himself as he scanned the hallway for anything of interest. He wasn’t expecting to find anything out of the ordinary, though it allowed him to stay occupied as he ignored the feeling of eyes on his back. He slowed his pace as Nico spoke, glancing back for a moment before stopping in front of the door they were nearest. “Why not,” he shrugged and pushed it open, stepping in without another word. For a moment he felt like he’d blinked out, his breath catching briefly as he expected the world to shift back into the pace it had been in before. But, as he stood with the comfortable sway under his feet and soft wind in his face, he came to the slow realization that he wasn’t standing aboard his own vessel. He gave Nico a mystified look before quickly moving to the side of the stranger ship, studying the railing briefly before looking out to the display of endless ocean. He leaned back, puzzled, then turned an awestruck eye around the deck, then the masts, then the stern. “She’s massive,” he muttered, the hint of a grin coming across his face.

And Rue found she couldn’t ask him to agree. She couldn’t ask him to think she was right anymore than he could ask her to think the same thing. No matter how much she wanted him to see it, now matter how much she wanted him to agree with her, she couldn’t make him. She was going to have to be okay with that if she wanted to keep being friends. She looked down, the shard of glass still resting lightly in her hand. It reflected her eye when she looked at it. Not red, not this time. She knew she’d lost control before. It seemed a bad sign of what was to come that that had already happened to her. If she lost control over a misunderstanding...she swallowed, pushing the thought away. She’d been afraid of herself before, but not like this. Never like this. “It might be.” She told him, letting her tone be blunt. She wasn’t trying to be mean, but this, at least, she needed him to understand. “My family is going to lose me, and they aren’t going to have closure. They won’t have anything left to bury. I can’t go home, Noah. This was a deal I made for myself, not them. I decided that I wanted to keep existing. I chose that, knowing that it meant that I wouldn’t be able to go back. They depended on me, I took tesserae for every single one of them, and now I can’t protect them anymore. I’ll never protect them again.” She didn’t look at him. She was still staring at her single dark eye reflected back at her. “I hope that, too.” She said softly. It had been an hour. That wasn’t long, but it was long enough to start to realize what she’d done. What the real consequences were. She would have to talk to Myrnin soon. She needed more information. Not that she could undo this even if she wanted to, but she wanted to know exactly what she’d just gotten herself into. She finally looked at Noah, just taking in the fact that he was there, that he was talking to her still, that they were both sitting there and they weren’t running from each other. After last time, she wouldn’t have been surprised. After last time, she couldn’t really have blamed him. It hurt. It hurt that there were no good options, that her best might not be enough, that even this choice, one she’d been and still was completely sure about...that that had the potential to tear her friends away from her. She knew it wasn’t his fault, not really. And in a lot of ways, he was right. She was dead. She had given up her humanity. She didn’t have a clue where she was going to get blood, how she could survive without hurting people. She was trying to make it through the next couple minutes, she couldn’t think that far ahead right now. She blinked, looking at him, her dark eyes wide. “But you…” she stared, then stopped, because she wasn’t sure what she wanted to say. Then she heard the next part, and she let out a small breath she didn’t need. “Oh.” She said in a tiny, soft voice. She hesitated, not sure what to say next. “Do you know what I’m doing right now?” She asked finally, her voice very quiet. “I’m hiding from the Careers. They’re looking for me. They know I have to be near the fire. It would be so easy to kill them now. It would be so easy to just kill them and I’m hiding because I don’t want to do that. Because they’re just kids too, because they’re not really the enemy, and because I don’t….want to kill anyone.” She stared at him for a long moment. Then the sharp slipped through her fingers, and before if touched the ground, she was leaning forward, her arms wrapped tightly around him, hugging him like she’d done when he’d told he was dead. When he’d looked so sure that she would hate him or be afraid of him for it. “I made you a promise, Noah.” She said in a muffled voice. “Do you remember it? I promised you I would be your friend no matter what. So I don’t care whether you think this is living, I don’t even care if you think I shouldn’t have made the choice I did, I just want to keep that promise.”

Museum room | Hange | ®Hawkpath® strider |Hange Zoe blinked into the House, hunched over a small bottle of something, intense concentration in their dark eyes as they poured the contents from one vial to another. They were so absorbed in what looked to be an incredibly delicate process that they didn't notice their blink until they had finished. They straightened up, blinking in surprise, and shoved the bottles into their breast pocket, distracted by their new surroundings. Where....oh! Oh, this was a museum. They recognized the layout of the glass casings and displays instantly, but that wasn't all - it was a museum, for certain, but it was much, much better than any they'd ever visited. Some of the objects here they didn't even recognize, some looked to be incredibly old - most if not all of these things were probably priceless. Any historian would kill to have them in their collection. Suddenly, they squealed with laughter and began to move, running in great bounds from one piece to the next, delighted with what they were seeing. They pressed their nose against the glass of one of the displays, containing what looked to be a scroll, written in a language that wouldn't translate. It looked ancient...

Kelsier blinked in....very high off the ground. His mistcloak spun around him, and in each hand was a dagger, cutting through the air now that nothing was left. Only now that the coin was no longer under him... Shi- Kelsier cursed under his breath as he immediately began to fall, hurtling downward too fast. He spun in the air, struggling to extract a coin, then finally accepting that it wasn’t happening and flaring pewter instead to brace for impact. He landed remarkably lightly, but even he lost his footing and rolled, using his momentum to roll over one shoulder and flash to his feet in a second, daggers still out and ready, breath coming in hard and fast, hazel eyes flitting around the room fast enough to take in everything at once. He didn’t recognize the setup, having never been in a museum before. The stuff looked old, though. He turned, catching sight of the only other blinker there, someone he didn’t recognize. “Hey.” He said, raising a hand in greeting. Then he realized he was still holding the dagger, and a rueful smile edged its way into his expression. He sheathed the weapons and tilted his head at the stuff instead.

A sharp, victorious laugh broke across the room as Nico blinked in, a smile tugging at the corner of his lips as he stood, black sword covered in dust and hanging at his side. Shadows were seeping out of it and the scepter in his other hand was still glowing purple. His smile faded just a little as he realized where he was and carefully leaned the scepter against the wall. All you needed to do was add a plaque off to the side and it would have appeared to belong in the museum – it was just as old as anything else there, and probably older than a fair bit of it. If he could’ve, he would have been happy to just leave it there. There appeared to be two other blinkers there, and Nico gravitated towards Kelsier by habit. Since when had it become habit? How many times had he met the other blinker? Enough to care about him, evidently. Enough that he trusted him over the blinker he had seen from afar but never actually interacted with. He tugged lightly on the chain-link bracelet around his wrist. No matter how often it happened, he was still nervous around people he didn’t know very well.

Hange | Museum room | ®Hawkpath® strider |Hange turned just in time to see a man they'd never met tumble to the floor, not managing to stick the difficult landing the House had set for him. "Hello there!" they said cheerfully, tilting their head and body to the side, their hands clasped behind their back as they stared at the newcomer. "Are any of your bones broken? I think a human should have broken some bones, but either you are very good at hiding it or - oh, you don't quite smell human, do you?" They took a step closer, their interest now piqued. "Why does your blood smell so metallic? Are you a human? Are you dying of metal poisoning? Are you actually made of metal? - ah, hello!" They pivoted as a second voice drew them, this one equally interesting, and moved to grab the scepter, speeding to be next to it in the blink of an eye. "Oh, what's this? It's all shadow-y...how did you make it do that? Is there something inside it? Can I see?" They turned to Nico, expectant.

It didn’t take a lot to get Nico excited. Somewhere deep inside (perhaps not that deep), he was still the kid who knew ever stat of every Mythomagic card, who studied history for fun, and who wanted to be a pirate before he was old enough to understand that first and foremost, there weren’t really pirates in twentieth century Italy, and that the god of the sea would probably kill him, given the chance, because he wasn’t supposed to exist. It took a lot more to make Nico visibly excited. This room, however, was almost enough to do it. He took a second to remind him that Poseidon couldn’t kill him here, and then another to remember that he’d just been on a boat for at least two weeks and nothing bad had happened. No need to be afraid of ships. Once that was out of the way he lurched forward towards the bow, trying to see over the side of the ship. A look up at the sails (and the flag, conveniently sporting the Jolly Roger) nearly stopped his heart as he tried to stop himself from bouncing up and down with excitement. “Is this a pirate ship?” Nico demanded, barely able to contain his glee. It was just like the Argo II, but so much cooler because it was a pirate ship. And there was nobody around to maintain his reputation for. “I’ve always wanted to be on one of these!”

Kelsier raised an eyebrow at the rapid questions, not interrupting, his small smile resting on his face. So they weren’t human. They could smell his blood, but they couldn’t tell that it wasn’t his blood itself that was metallic, so maybe they could actually just smell him in general? “I’m human.” He assured them, giving a small bow. He would have answered more, but then someone familiar blinked in and he broke off. He hadn’t heard Nico laugh in a while. Maybe not since they’d gone ice skating. He got the impression it wasn’t a terribly common occurrence. His smile deepened as he saw the expression on the boy’s face. Seeing Nico smiling made him feel oddly like he wanted to go to the kid’s world and bake whoever had done it a large cake with extra frosting. Or maybe just tell them they were a gift to the world. He tended a moment later as the stranger flashed over to the scepter, and his eyes narrowed. It wasn’t his to say, but he knew Nico needed that thing for whatever he was doing, and it looked dangerous...still he didn’t say anything. It was Nico’s decision.

"Depends," said Myrnin. "Usually they can talk and understand us if they blink in. I assume these aren't the same sorts of dogs." But he was always doubtful whether or not the House really just ... made them. "I would say they're real," he said. Who was he to define what there existence meant or not? He wasn't them. "Why do you think there are so many of them?" he asked after a second, looking around. There were an great many dogs. "I like it though," he said, looking around. Ah! There was one. He pointed the corgi out to Touka. "I had a dog like that!" he said brightly. He looked back at her, wondering if she had any idea about what they were. Touka | Dog sanctuary room | mintedstar/fur |Touka tore herself away from squashing the husky mix's cheeks to look at the dog Myrnin had pointed out, and smiled, recognizing it immediately. "You really had one of those?" she asked, kneeling down and patting the ground to get it to come over. "It's a corgi. They're nice dogs - I had a neighbor that had one once, when I was little. He'd always run out to see us when we walked by the house." She sat back a little, absent-mindedly petting the corgi on the head as she looked out over the field, amazed by the sheer number of dogs. They seemed to be healthy and happy, too - apparently even if the House liked tormenting the blinkers, it had it in it to be nice to animals, at least. She closed her eyes and let herself feel the breeze as it washed over her, digging her free hand into the dirt and grass while her other hand continued petting the dog. "This is a nice room," she said to Myrnin, turning to glance over at him. "Makes you kind of uneasy, doesn't it? Knowing the House."

Nico tensed a little bit as Hange moved over to the scepter, but relaxed when it seemed that they didn’t want to destroy it. “Go ahead,” he replied, shrugging just a bit. “You won’t be able to make it glow or do what it’s supposed to do, but you can hold it, if you want.” From the way Hange had been watching whatever they’d been looking at when Nico had first blinked in, he trusted them not to destroy it. Hopefully. Besides, they sort of reminded him of his younger self, full of questions and completely unsatisfied until he had the answers. He couldn’t afford to be like that anymore, but he couldn’t begrudge Hange the same quality. “The crystal on top is good for raising the dead. There’s a specific army in my world that responds to it.” He shrugged, more than happy to let Hange look it over. He’d offer to give it to them, if he weren’t currently in the process of raising the dead. He still technically needed it. Confident that Hange was preoccupied by the scepter, he edged forward, looking at some of the artifacts. Not all of them were from his world, he noticed, but a fair number of them were. Something on the back wall caught his eye and he edged towards it, eyes wide. It was a collection of Venetian carnival masks, the sort that he used to see people wearing in books when he was little. He’d always wanted one, but his mother insisted they were outdated and not “proper.” He’d never seem such a large collection before.

L blinked in, holding an ice cream cone in one hand and a small bag with what appeared to be ash inside it in the other. He was looking at the latter object, a light frown resting on his face, giving him an older expression. It was easy to forget the detective was nineteen with that expression on his face. “Watari, do you think...” He broke off, looking up as cold assaulted him, and immediately sucked in a breath as wind pulled his hair out of his face and back. He immediately lifted one leg, balancing carefully like a flamingo. He had thought about what he would do when this happened again. This would minimize the damage to his feet. He would switch in a couple minutes. Wait. He couldn’t walk one legged.... “Ah,” He said quietly. It was his version of a swear.

Hook looked over his shoulder as Nico darted in the opposite direction towards the bow, hesitantly peeling his attention away from the doorway to the captain’s quarters so he could keep his eye on the younger blinker. He slowly trailed, crossing the deck and glancing over the port side rail, gaze moving up the rigging as he did so. “Aye,” he answered the question with a distracted eye turned towards the upper deck, though a smile lingered on his face. He took a couple of seconds to process what Nico had said next, scoffing once the realization hit him. “Hell d’you say?” He asked, certain that he’d misspoke. Ending up on a pirate’s ship sounded like the last thing any reasonable bastard would want for themselves - and it wasn’t like many young folks went around wanting to partake in such a lifestyle. On top of that, he was fairly certain Nico wasn’t much of a sailor.

Music, loud and upbeat, joined the quiet howl of the wind as Orpheus appeared, carefully strumming the lyre. The tips of his fingers were red and raw, and this time not from the frostbite. Grateful to see the House, he let himself stop playing and shifted the instrument to his back. It took him a moment to process the snow, but once he did his heart began racing and he tried to shove his fingers into he pockets of his pants. He needed to keep them as warm as possible, if last time was any indication. He would lose feeling there, first. It didn’t take him long to spot Λ. It wasn’t as hard this time – the wind was still stirring up the snow, but it wasn’t actively blotting out his vision like it had been. “I didn’t know the House ever repeated rooms,” he called to his friend as he drew closer, untying the bandana from his neck just as he had the first time. Maybe it would be more effective this time. Although… this time they didn’t have a door to go towards, unless Λ had seen one. He offered the other end of his bandana to Λ, trying to hide the slightly darker red spots where his fingertips had stained the fabric. He didn’t want Λ to worry about that, at least not until they were safely inside somewhere.

Nico looked back at Hook, catching the smile on his face. He seemed so at home here, and after a moment, something clicked. Captain. Captain Hook. Captain of a ship. A pirate ship. “No way,” Nico breathed, eyes wide. Objectively, he knew that pirates weren’t great. But his friends in the House weren’t exactly the most innocent either – a vampire who had definitely murdered people before, and a well known thief with a penchant for assassination. It wasn’t too different from piracy. Besides, if the books Nico remembered from when he was younger were correct, nobody on a pirate ship cared if you were gay. Half the crew probably was anyway. Funny, how the book had thought that would be something that would make the reader even more afraid of pirates. It had just made Nico think they were even cooler. “When I was little, I wanted to be a pirate,” he shrugged, glancing back at Hook. “Never thought I’d actually be on a vessel like this.”

L looked up as music reached his ears, immediately placing it as Orpheus’ for the simple reason that no one else could play like that. So the room wanted a do over, did it? What was it trying to accomplish by repeating this experience? Granted, they didn’t know for sure that this was the same room, but the cold still made him desperately want to go back to his nice warm dark room where he could sit and work in silence. It wasn’t as bad, yet. He could still see his ice cream cone. He tucked the small bag in his pocket, then reluctantly lowered his foot as he gave into the fact that it wasn’t going to work. So much for that idea. He watched Orpheus come closer, considering his friend for a long moment. He looked exhausted, and no wonder, from what he knew of the situation he was in. The crew he was with. The detective may not have known everything, but he knew more than enough to know he disliked the people Orpheus was currently surrounded by, and he knew that the sooner the situation were resolved, the better. He accepted the end of the bandana. “It’s not quite the same.” He pointed out, nodding at the snow. “It didn’t start the same. Perhaps it won’t end the same, either. Not all snow is as...unpleasant as what you’ve experienced. I-“ He broke off, eyes catching on Orpheus’ end of the bandana. His hand flashed forward and took the musician’s wrist in a gentle but firm grip, and he flipped the hand over, inspecting the tips of his fingers. “How long have you been playing?” He asked after a moment, his tone completely different now. There was a definite edge to it, and his expression was hard to read, but intense, as he searched Orpheus’ eyes.

Orpheus looked around, considering Λ’s words. It wasn’t exactly the same, that was true. They could see, for one thing. And there was already snow on the ground. Perhaps this was the aftermath of that room. Perhaps the snow was beginning to die down. He looked around, searching for a door. He was surprised to see trees in one direction. So they were outside. They hadn’t been before. Maybe Λ was right. Maybe this room would have a different ending. Still, it seemed that the House enjoyed making them cold, and not making any adjustments to compensate for the clothing that was certainly not weather appropriate. A glance down proved that, once again, the House had failed to provide Λ with boots. Orpheus knew his friend wouldn’t like it if he had been given boots, but it had to be better than frostbite. Orpheus didn’t like that word, perhaps because he’d felt the pain of the thing it described. He was about to turn to examine the rest of their surroundings when he felt Λ’s hand on his wrist. He glanced down, briefly considering pulling back. He didn’t. He saw what Λ was concerned about, but he didn’t say anything for a long moment. It wasn’t… exactly… like that. And they had bigger things to worry about at the moment. “Long enough,” he sighed softly, shaking his head. “I’ll get used to sustaining such a tempo.” He would have said it wasn’t that bad, but that was a lie, and he knew the detective would catch him in it. Even if Orpheus were a halfway decent liar, it was Λ’s job to uncover lies. “We need to find somewhere warm to go before your feet freeze,” he managed after a moment, sliding his hand down so it was holding Λ’s for just a moment before he gave a quick squeeze and pulled back to hold his part of the bandana. “Please be honest this time, can you walk?” Concern coated his gaze, and he met his friend’s gaze, hoping that might help him gauge the truth.

Hook raised an eyebrow at Nico, still failing to understand his strange response to being on such a vessel. Even as the teen elaborated, the pirate looked puzzled, if not somewhat amused by his bizarre claims. “Surely you learned to keep that sentiment to yourself,” he chuckled, now thoroughly humored by the idea. He continued to consider the ship with a smirk, nodding a bit with Nico’s words. “We’re lucky she’s missing her crew,” he mused, cocking his brow at his skinny company. He could hold his own in a fight, but a ship this size likely carried an impressive number of able bodies. He gave a more thoughtful look at the other blinker, who - strange as it was - seemed genuinely excited by their situation. “Should we look around then?” He offered, seeming pleased that he was in a room he was so comfortable with.

“There were worse things I could have said. As far as my mother was concerned, piracy was one of the least inflammatory things I could do.” A wry smile touched Nico’s lips for just a moment as he let his hand lightly trace the side of the boat as he turned around to look at Hook. He figured that, no matter how cool a crew of pirates would be, he and Hook were intruders and would be treated as such. Could the two of them take on a whole crew? Nico figured they probably could, but he wasn’t sure he wanted to actually find out. “You probably know more about where to look than me,” he shrugged, glancing back up at the sails. He’d read countless books on ships, examining and memorizing the diagrams. He could name parts of a ship without problem, but that didn’t mean he knew how to actually apply his knowledge. “Where might we find something interesting?”

A quick glance around told L that this was not the other room. The trees gave it away, as well as the consistency of the snow, which was considerably soft and less icy than it had been before. A different room. A different ending. Hopefully one that would end in significantly less discomfort for them both. He shifted, the snow already beginning to hurt his feet, though not as bad as it had been. That was just because he hadn’t been there as long, though, not because the snow wasn’t cold. He sincerely hoped that frostbite wasn’t something that was going to happen again. It had, thankfully, disappeared upon blinking back, but that hadn’t meant he hadn’t wrapped himself in a blanket and drank cup after cup of tea, trying to get warm again. He didn’t let go for a moment, still inspecting Orpheus’ fingers, his eyes narrowed. They looked bad. They had to hurt. And Orpheus clearly played a lot as it was, which meant that the amount he was being forced to play was much higher than it should be. He didn’t know how much people normally slept, but he guessed that Orpheus wasn’t doing it nearly enough. “Is it the frequency or the intensity of the music? Or the length of time?” He asked, his tone tight with worry and something else. He wanted to kick the crew. All of them. Preferably at the same time. He paused, then allowed himself to be slightly reassured by the hand squeeze. It was difficult not to be when Orpheus was looking so genuinely concerned for him. “I can walk.” He said, glancing down at his feet. “This snow is slightly different. The wind also isn’t as bad.” He wasn’t lying. He really was pretty sure walking wouldn’t be a problem unless they found themselves trapped for an extended period of time. He hoped that wouldn’t happen. He didn’t need to spend another three days trying to convince himself he wasn’t cold.

Hook chuckled. “Your mother has interesting ideals,” he commented, trying to imagine what sort of practical thing could outmatch the anarchic nature of piracy. Then again, he clearly wasn’t well informed on what Nico’s world looked like. He leaned back on his heels, scratching at his beard absently. “I’d hope so, mate, ‘been at this shit a couple lifetimes,” he smirked, raising his eyebrows at the next question. He began tracking backwards, chuckling, “Anything that’s worth lookin’ into will be in these quarters,” he grinned, nodding back towards the captain’s quarters he’d been eyeing previously. He was incredibly curious what sort of loot and writings he’d be able to riffle through; even if it had no relevancy in his own world.

Orpheus wished he’d had a little bit more time to recover after the last room, but… well, he supposed that was the nature of both the House and what was going on in his world. Perhaps it was something of a blessing that he hadn’t been allowed to sleep as much as he’d have liked. When he did sleep, he found himself occasionally falling into nightmares about the snow. Nightmares where he didn’t find Λ again after he fell. Nightmares where they hadn’t been able to warm up, and he was still cold when he finally woke up. That was probably due to the cold sea breeze and terrible insulation than anything else, but still. He had a feeling that he wasn’t the biggest fan of snow. He was grateful it wasn’t a common sight in Thrace. It got cold, but not cold enough for frostbite. That seemed to be something of a blessing. “When I practice on my own, or play for myself, it’s not constant for hours. And I can switch up the tempo. So… I’m not sure it’s any one factor all at once, more a combination of all of them.” He shrugged, trying to play it off like it hurt less than it did. That, he supposed, was one good thing about the snow. It seemed to be numbing his fingertips. He didn’t have to worry about the pain that way. There was something in his friend’s tone that he didn’t quite grasp. Or perhaps, that he did, but he didn’t want to consider. He was probably being unfair to his crew, getting strangers to dislike them… “The wind seems less malicious now,” he noted, grateful for the opportunity to change topics. Wind wasn’t a person, he knew that. It couldn’t be kind or malicious, but that didn’t stop him from ascribing those qualities to it. This wind wasn’t kind, but it wasn’t actively attempting to hurt them either. “Do you have any idea which direction we should be heading?” Orpheus searched Λ’s gaze, then glanced back out at the landscape around them. He thought he saw something in the distance, but he wasn’t sure.
