“Why not?” Charlie asked, trying to defend their idea even if they had no idea whether it made sense. It was a bit like trying to drive a car while blindfolded. Not that they had any idea what that would be like or anything. They almost smiled, but resisted the urge in case it made them look like they were doing something nefarious. The truth was, Kai sort of scared them. Not badly, but there was something weird about him, something that warned them not to get on his bad side, and not just because of who he could probably call if they revealed themself. It was like he was dangerous, only not in any way they could quite pin down. Maybe that was just the magic of this place, though, “You have a twin?” They repeated, surprised. Humans having twins was a rare thing, they knew that. Maybe it was more common with witches though? Either way, apparently it was a big deal. They studied his face, trying to tell what he thought about the whole thing, and realized that he actually cared that he’d been betrayed. That meant he hadn’t seen in coming or planned for it, which surprised them for some reason. He was a very interesting person, wasn’t he? “Wow, that sucks.” They said, sympathy in their tone, even if it wasn’t on their face. It wasn’t that they didn’t care, it was more that they were still too nervous to get wrapped up in someone else’s family drama. “Were they trying to become the most important witch instead of you? What did they do?” Hopefully he wouldn’t mind the assault of questions, though so far he’d seemed fine with talking about himself, which was a very good thing for them. The less he knew about them, the safer they’d be, after all. As he poked his head into the hall, Charlie moved to follow, curiousity winning out over anxiety. What they saw was… Nothing short of incredible. Their eyes widened at the sight of door after door, stretching out far past where they could see, was there even an end to it? Even their sharp eyes couldn’t find one. They followed Kai inside, and they were just about to touch a door when he stopped in front of one and they hurried to catch up. “Do you…” They trailed off, then tried again. “...wanna check it out?”

Ougi - lodge outside - Sam and Sherlock
The straining in Ougi's arms paralleled the void's wobbly dissipation. The student had to concentrate completely on the task in order to banish these shadows, and the worry emanating from Sam only made it a rougher transition. At least he made an effort to stand still for her. Her head curled in and down closer to the ground, which felt like the ground but looked more like a bottomless pit. There was no looking around anyway. Her eyes were shut, and her hair was flapping around in front of her face and in all directions. She attempted to shut out Sherlock's comments as well, but she couldn't help but overhear.
We have a case to solve, he had said.
On that cue, the dark atmosphere around them completely shattered and a toppling gust of cold wind hit them from one side--the snowstorm was back. The lodge was only a few meters away, and right now it looked like the most warm and wonderful place in the world. Ougi blinked slowly, clearly surprised by the sudden shift. It should have taken longer to return. Besides, she hadn't been concentrating in that final moment. If she hadn't known Sherlock was a normal human, she would have suspected he used some kind of power to end it. Still on her knees, she finally began bending her elbows and retracting her arms. She gazed down at her gloved hands with a look that could only be described as a mixture of disgust and surprise. Was she really the one who had brought them back?

Arlo's magic appeared to operate very differently than Eises' did, closer to the give-and-take energy source properties that Ghost understood. Magic still eluded full comprehension though, and it most likely would for some time given how long he had seen it used here in the House and not come much closer to any solid conclusions. case in point: Eises' light show.
Ghost took a precautionary step backwards, the parts of him closest to the sudden flame shimmering a little as his normally invisible shields responded to the heat. "So you are currently playing host to an entity who poses such a risk to yourself and companions that you have to be knocked unconscious when it decides to act on its own." The shepherd summarized dryly. "You are not inspiring much confidence, if that was your goal."
Not having much frame of comparison for how bad things used to be, Ghost was justifiably skeptical. His broken wing hummed and clicked. Strange was something he dealt with on a daily basis. Strange existed on every planet in every reality. Strange, as unpredictable as it might seem at first, could still show calculable tendencies. What the Theian spoke of was just a little more than strange.
Before Ghost could say anything else, there was a creak from somewhere above. The cedar tree he had collided with earlier shifted, the fractured trunk starting to splinter as heavy snow and gravity began to take its toll. The shepherd jumped towards the girls, out of the downtrodden snow beneath the trees into fresh powder that was nearly up to his neck. "Move!"
Eises nervously and lightly scratched her cheek. "I-It's not like I had a choice...If I knew anything about this necklace when I found it, I don't think I'd mess with it in the first place. Now I can't take it off..." Her voice trailed. Who would've guessed that a random golden necklace found in the forest would have a malevolent spirit slumbering within? Eises would have never believed it was possible, much less have the same spirit be able to possess you. Whether she liked it or not, Calibris was now a permanent part of her. She then tried to think how Evina would word this. Maybe approaching it differently would make Ghost understand a little better. Things like magic didn't exist in his world after all, so perhaps she should use terms he was more familiar with. "I-It's like...um...if you put on a ring and it installed a different robot's files into you, like a computer virus. And the ring like...becomes impossible to take off! The more you try to take it off, the more damaged your files become! And the virus will never go away, and sometimes the virus takes over? B-But you can also sorta talk with the virus, so you try to work on yourself to control it 'cause you don't want it taking over?" That would make a little more sense, right? Eises wasn't very confident in this new explanation, and she wouldn't be surprised if she just made herself look silly instead. It may have been obvious that electronics were not her strong suit. "E-Er, can you even get viruses? Your world has computer viruses, right?" Eises clenched her teeth at the terrible sound and quickly got to her feet. She didn't stand fully upright and was still crouched over, but just enough to allow her to move out of the way. She stumbled at the last minute and fell face first into the snow. One of the thinner branches from the now fallen tree managed to land on her legs, its twigs poking into them. Her ears flattened and her left eye started to twitch in irritation. "I-I-I'm not this clumsy in battle, I swear." She could dodge a couple of projectiles with flips if she wanted to, but dodging an entire tree in the House? Nonsense.

"Well, I haven't really tried much, but yeah, I could... I don’t practice it much though,” Arlo admitted. She’d thought of that so many times before but she was always worried about overusing it so she avoided it when possible. The only time she remembered using it intentionally in the House had been when she’d needed to revive the ghost from that alternate House where they’d been turned into kids, and right after that, when they’d returned to the House. She’d been afraid of losing control of her powers and Myrnin had offered to let her take some of his energy. It probably would be useful if she learned to control it better... maybe then there would be a chance, a small chance, that she could get over her fear of using it unintentionally.
Eises’ answer to Ghost immediately caught her attention. She’d been right about the necklace! “Your powers! They’re from-” her excitement lasted for only a moment before the creaking of the tree interrupted her and she looked up as it started to tip. Arlo took a couple steps back, tripped over something she couldn’t see, and fell backwards into the thick snow- luckily out of path of the falling tree. She quickly sat up again, looking around for the other two blinkers. “Are you guys okay?”

Myrnin | Ice Sculpture Room |Numquam Myrnin arched an eyebrow. Then he said in what he assumed was Latin, but was still translated by the House regardless, "Ah yes. The complicated languages. How I hate them." Then he shook his head, still assuming that Eises hadn't heard a word, and asked instead, "So I take it your boss is a good boss?" His expression had narrowed ever so slightly, though it wasn't very clear why. Something to do with the language, perhaps? He'd just be the last to admit that paistra reminded him far too much of a different word. Someone who wanted respect but had never earned it. But he shoved that thought away, like he had always done. He didn't need to dwell on it. "Oh?" he asked drolly. "You have one too, do you?" What an amusing thing to relate with someone over. "The year was acceptable. Chaotic, but acceptable." Myrnin caught both of the gems with ease, holding them in his hand. If they were cold, he couldn't tell. But then again, he couldn't sense cold to begin with. Vampires had no use for such ability. The gems in his hands didn't even start to melt, since his body temperature was similar to the room's. "You must have had a very interesting childhood," he said. "Just making gems? At least tell my you attempted to make a dress out of these?" He held both of them up to his eyes and looked through them, grinning at Eises and finding this all great fun. "Make some pretty fun bobbles for as long as they were actually whole!" He froze (ha ha) as Eises created a mouse that moved. He lowered the ice-gems and looked at it as it ran off, shocked. "That's so cool!" he murmured. Then he glanced back at his current House companion and snorted. "I think they like you!" he said, completely missing the fact that the lion had made a reappearance and was now chasing Eises' ice-mouse with great, excited abandon. He did notice after a second and curiously watched the large beast. "Wonder if any of them are going to attack us," he said. "So far they don't seem to be interested in what we're doing. How sad. They don't know how very interesting we are." He glanced back at Eises and grinned. "What else can you do?" Eises did not hesitate to nod with a smile. "She's strict and powerful, but she's really nice too." Alistra had a sharp tongue who wouldn't hesitate to chew you out, but she was also someone willing to visit and laugh casually with the soldiers during their free times. Thinking about her usually brought a smile to Eises' face, and that's not even mentioning her looks. "Y-Yeah...he's kind of a handful sometimes." She laughed nervously. When Hyacin was set on eating someone, she usually had little control over him. It was hard stopping a 2 ton dragon from barreling over to someone. "Acceptable....is good." "I-Interesting...? Something like that." Eises' gaze became distant for a second before looking back at Myrnin. "What about your childhood?" The next question caught her a little off guard. "Dress?" She laughed, "I've tried making armour out of ice, but that takes a lot of effort and power if you want it to actually work. Never a dress, though." Wouldn't there be gaps in between the gems, showing off skin? Unless he meant an ice dress with flat gems decorating it, rather than physical ice gems. She kept her eyes upwards, only able to see the ice-bird's beak sticking out. With her luck, she was half-expecting it to start pecking at her...or worse. Eises watched as the bird hopped from her head to Myrnin's head. "Maybe they like you too." Her smile was interrupted for a moment when another ice bird landed on her head. Now they both had birds. She did wonder what other animals were in this room. Not all of the sculptures have started moving, but obviously others have. She watched as the ice-monkey from earlier jumped onto the ground and started tugging on Myrnin's legs. "Y-You mean besides my ice magic? Well, I have another magic." She then summoned a long purple crystal. "It has a lot of forms, the other one could probably melt everything in here." Unless these sculptures weren't able to melt, which she wouldn't be surprised. "N-Now that I think about it, I don't think I've seen you use any magic. Do you have any?" The way that Eises talked about this person in her life amused Myrnin. He was glad to hear she had friends. Or at least he hoped this boss person was a friend, at least somehow. "What's your charges name?" he asked instead, voice turning dry as he continued to play with the ice crystals. He dropped one as soon as she mentioned his childhood, looking shocked. Luckily, there was plenty of snow. Not so luckily one of the small ice creatures decided to grab it almost at once and make off with it. Myrnin watched it, stalling more than anything. Then he glanced at Eises with hesitation in his eyes. "I can't remember it, honestly. Not unless I focus. And if I do, I tend to remember the man who changed me." His words were blunt, open, but also very wary, as if he expected Eises to bite him. Then he shrugged. "But that was - what? - when I was twenty-five? Hardly a childhood. I assume I had a family. I know they sold me to Gwion. That's about it." He tossed the remaining ice crystal between his hands and pretended he didn't care. At least she had been talking about the dress. Maybe that would distract her. The ice sculpture monkey was having none of the chit-chat and started to climb Myrnin's pants, aiming for his shoulder with an attention that Myrnin did not interrupt. "Very interesting," he said, nodding at the purple crystal. He wondered if it had to do with fire. "Magic? Depends on how you define magic. You did see me do something once." He glanced at her, maybe a bit surprised. "You were there when I read your mind." And saved her, but he left that part out. It hadn't really been completely her. He had ended up not completely ... him ... either by the end of that room. Yet another thing he didn't want to think about. The monkey reached his shoulder and started to try and catch the ice bird. The sculpture was having none of it. Myrnin didn't seem to be acknowledging either of them.

Zacharie - lodge - Legosi Crumbs fell from behind Zacharie’s mask as he crunched the cracker. Ancestors... Could it be that Legosi was an evolved species, which was why he wore human clothes? But Zacharie wasn’t one to pry too much into other blinkers’ worlds. He had figured out by now that there was not much use to assessing the differences, and that they were often far too different from one another. “Carnivores... Ah, no. Humans are omnivores. But... I’m not like the others you’ll see here because I do only eat meat. If you’re asking me specifically, I’m a carnivore.” At this he picked up another cracker, and a few of the berries from the platter. “I like this place because there are foods other than meat I get to try. It’s the opposite of my world. There, we have swimming pools of meat all around.” “It could be a problem, for them, but it isn’t my business. Besides, if I had gotten any closer to them I could have been killed,” Zacharie argued. He sat cross-legged, with his back to the fire and his pack within reaching distance as if worried someone might steal it. If they could carry it at all, that is. “Don’t you want any?” His voice was completely mild, deliberately neglecting the safety of any of the blinkers outside. From Zacharie’s perspective, they would surely come inside at some point, and if they were wounded it would be an opportune time to sell some of his healing remedies. Legosi | Razzle Dazzle | LodgeLegosi's ear flicked back at Zacharie as he took his eyes off the door. "Oh, omnivores, right." The term wasn't used often enough thanks to their two main categories, but it seemed to make sense to him. Zacharie didn't exactly have much of a maw like other carnivores. "E-Eh?" It was a bit weird; Legosi had never met someone who had eaten actual meat before. Zacharie didn't appear any more aggressive from that fact, but everything could be different in the place he came from.
But that didn't get to be dwelled on too long, instead curious by the lack of care Zacharie seemed to take with apparent others being in the middle of a snowstorm. Especially after how highly he had previously spoken regarding other visitors here. Though as the merchant continued, Legosi appeared to fidget a bit in his seat. "Ah, no thank you," he said, attempting to act as casual as he could. "I...have a strict diet." That seemed like an okay excuse for the time being, until he could say one way or another if the food here was truly safe as there was a certain scent rising from the platter that was triggering his mouth to salivate, but the wolf swallowed hard instead and would ignore it. Hopefully.
To leave as little room for prying as possible, Legosi paused only to think of another conversation starter. "So your world...how's that like?" he asked, his body resuming its hunched state as he rested his arms on his legs.

Myrnin | Worst Cooks in America the House | Eurydice & Crutchie The nickname was amusing. Myrnin turned around again, still rummaging through the various items but using his free hand to point to the newest blinker. "I like that, but I've heard more original. Trap-door spider is more original, honestly." He looked back at the cases of items and pulled out a rather large knife. He tested the edge, then set it aside on a different shelf. Then he reached in and pulled out a hand cheese grader and seemed to decide to keep that. "Myrnin," he said after a second, "is my actual name." He tucked the cheese grader under and arm, picked up a knife (this time a slightly smaller one), and headed back for his own table. He still hadn't gotten any food. Then again, he was once again closer to the smell of blood. He sighed a bit and pressed his thumb and index finger to the bridge of his nose. It didn't help very much. "I take it you're both human?" he asked. He hadn't really inquired much about Crutchie, though he assumed that he was. Then again, human didn't exclude powers. "Without magical abilities or so forth?"

Zacharie - lodge - Legosi
Sitting on the floor, Zacharie looked up at Legosi and frowned thoughtfully under his toad mask. He had one arm bent, palm coming down on the knee of his crossed leg, and the other hand holding up a stacked cracker-and-meat. He realized that eating it would be a very omnivore thing of him to do, and he wondered at Legosi’s comment if the wolf boy even knew what an omnivore was. His reaction hadn’t been completely convincing.
“Ah yes, there’s meat everywhere in my world. You can ride pedalo in the meat rivers, which I hear is quite romantic.” With that, loud crunching commenced as he devoured the bite from his hand. Crumbs fell on the floor, but he payed them no mind. Instead, he brushed off the excess on his sweater and leaned far back to reach for his backpack. A short dig through the pack later, he had procured a seemingly empty jar. It seemed dirty—no, just smoky. The merchant cracked the lid to breathe this smoke like air, then returned it to his bag. “My world? Well, I’ve been telling you all about it, haven’t I? There are meat rivers, plastic oceans, and smoke mines. There aren’t many people there, other than the Elsen. What’s your world like?” He leaned forward eagerly and put his hands to the floor. “Do all you animals walk upright there?”

Sam | Outside the Lodge, blizzard included | Sherlock and Ougi Sam nearly stumbled on the return, not really able to process the shift until the wind started to whip his clothing about. He gasped, not from the cold but from the very distinct difference. He spun a bit, not toward the group but away from it, trying to get a sense of what was going on. They were back. Ougi looked frazzled, Sherlock looked purposeful, and Zange ... At some point, the body had disappeared. Sam swallowed, unnerved. What was that about? Where had the House taken it? Did that mean all that could be done had been? "We need to get inside!" he said, voice rising to be heard over the wind. Snow blew into his eyes, blinding him, and he had to use his sense of scent to work his way closer to Sherlock and Ougi again. "Come on!" It was almost pleading. Both of the other blinkers seemed too caught up with themselves to really take care of their own well-being now.

Legosi had first thought the 'swimming pools of meat' comment had been just an eccentric expression, but no, it was actually literal. It was a hard concept to wrap his mind around, and he made a face that wasn't hard to miss. It was even more confusing as Zacharie described more of the environment. It seemed so...made up.
His head had tilted when what he thought was a dusty jar was brought out, but he could smell the smoke once the lid had lifted for Zacharie to inhale. Legosi had assumed he had cigarettes when his wares were initially announced - again it was all quite literal in the end. Legosi almost had forgotten Zacharie found him so interesting, so when asked about his world in which all felt rather mundane, he realized compared to what he'd just heard it was probably much more exciting to hear about.
"Yes, that's right," he answered. "There's a lot of diversity in our species, but we're grouped as either carnivores or herbivores. Um, that's why I had asked about you. You see, it's more common for us to stay within our own groups and I didn't want to cause an issue if you had been an herbivore."

Something in Myrnin crumbled. It was like a plastic bag, pushed together so much that the space it took up felt wrong and unnatural. He held his breath, hoping it would help, but instead it was just Touka's cold hand, clutching his. He felt trapped. She was trapped and it was him who felt cornered. It felt like his fault. He couldn't do anything. He couldn't, because this was the House and it was as isolated as an undiscovered island. "No," he whispered. He didn't want to lose her. They had grown up in the House - or she had and he might only have learned. He could feel anger blooming through his chest, along with desperation, but all the while it was just the same plastic bag feeling crumpled up in him. Slowly, he pried his fingers away from Touka's grip and took a step back, looking shattered but doing so anyway. "I can't do this," he said, voice strained. "I can't." He couldn't just accept there was nothing to do. He couldn't even take Rex's side and try to find some way to make Touka's last blink better. He wasn't used to death. Coming from a vampire that was rich, but it was true. He didn't need to have friends who could die, but he did. They always did, and he always outlived them. But at least then he could fight the people who hurt them, or accept that he couldn't fight every disease. This was different. There wasn't a way to reason out of it. Instead he was stuck with this. A present which was wrong. "I need to go," he said, eyes darkening shade by shade.

Zacharie - lodge - Legosi
Zacharie was not someone to cast skepticism, which was probably why he was able to fit in with the other blinkers. Anyone in the Paradox House could be made to believe that his world was just like theirs, because he easily accepted how different they were. He never made it a point to highlight the differences in a bad way. That was why he didn’t elaborate on his world any more than he already had. And why when Legosi talked about his own world, the merchant sat focused but munching away, intrigued but not scrutinizing. He didn’t so much as flinch, either, when Legosi cast his scrutinizing looks at the jar of smoke. One odd thing about Zacharie’s self-awareness was that if it existed, it wasn’t outwardly apparent.
If he had had animal ears, they would have perked up at his last comment. “Cause an issue? Why would it cause an issue if I were an herbivore?” As far as he knew, cows were the main herbivore. And meat wasn’t even the primary resource gotten from cows—it was metal. But the conversation would have to get far more complicated to explain that.

Sherlock sucked in a sharp breath as the wind slapped him in the face, greeting him back to the storm they’d left mere minutes - or had it been longer? - earlier. He stumbled and caught himself, then straightened up and scanned the other two with undisguised concern in his piercing eyes. They were back. Aside from the cuts lacing Sam’s arms and face (and Sherlock’s, for that matter) they were alive and unharmed, good as they’d gone in. A glance at Ougi’s face made him suspect that wasn’t common for what they’d just gone through. “Are you alright?” He asked Sam, eyes taking in the shallow scarlet wounds covering his body. Then he looked at Ougi, who was on her knees, and his sharp expression softened into something nearly kind. He stepped towards her and slipped his coat off, draping it around her shoulders. She looked like someone in shock, and he didn’t have a blanket, which was what people had used on him when he was in shock, so he figured a heavy overcoat would be the next best thing. Assuming she was in actual shock and something magical and bad hadn’t happened to her, anyway. He offered her a hand. “Sam’s right.” He called over the wind, and glanced at the way the storm was coming through narrowed eyes. The wind blew his black curls back from his face, and he looked back at Ougi. “We’ve got to get inside before anything else. Come on, we can think about what just happened in a couple minutes.” The body, he noticed suddenly, was gone. As though the House had been waiting for something like this to happen...or as though it had decided to stop them from getting anything else off of it. Interesting. He wanted to think about that more, but the icy wind was insistent enough to make even him decide to get to shelter first and ask questions later.

Ougi - lodge outside -> lodge inside - Sam, Sherlock, Legosi, Zacharie, anyone else who wants to be in the lodge right now Sam's words rang past Ougi's ears, but didn't seem to penetrate her forcefield. She was still staring down at her gloved hands. The shock in her eyes was fading though, as she began to return to her normal self. That was what it felt like. It felt like she had not been herself, in there. Not to mention, why did she care so much about whether Sam and Sherlock had been killed? Her shoulders jumped when the coat was placed around her shoulders. She had not noticed the scathing snowstorm around them, much less Sherlock's approach. As if just now hearing what Sam had said, she squinted past the flurrying snow and her flapping hair to spot him. Then, her eyes focused on something much closer: Sherlock's hand. Ougi took it with her own, showing none of the same scrapes on her arm. She was indeed hoisting herself up with him, but seemed to cast no weight upon the other blinker. "Let's get out of here..." She moved her legs slowly, pummeled by the wind on one side but not letting that unsteady her. They were near enough to the lodge that she opened the door shortly gestured with her gaze for the other two to step inside first. She could already feel the warmth of the fire on her legs; but in the brief moment that the door was open, the blizzard was entering as well and shooting wind and snow into the lodge.

Legosi | Zacharie, Ougi, Sam, Sherlock| Lodge It was kind of endearing, Legosi thought, at how intrigued Zacharie appeared to be. Aside from his good friend, it was hard to recall a time when someone sat so focused on what he was saying. "Ah-- Um..." Legosi reached to scratched at his cheek fur before collecting enough of his thoughts. "It's natural for herbivores to fear carnivores, so I try to respect the distance if they get intimidated." He seemed to slouch more as he spoke as if to highlight how small he tried to make himself.
He stared at the fire after that, then, about to cast a glance back down at Zacharie, Legosi just about leapt up when the door suddenly opened, casting icy snow towards him and the merchant. He squinted his eyes against the wind, seeing someone standing there - was that another human? They had the same type of stature as Zacharie. With the wind brought their scents, though muddled by snow, and the wolf quirked his head at the other unfamiliar people who were behind the first.

She had to pause for a moment as she slowly took in her blink. Her mind was all over the place recently, perhaps she needed the distraction. That is of course, if the House was feeling nice to her today. Gives me a minute to think things over. She immediately took a seat on the sofa and sighed.

"My...charges?" Eises had never heard the term being used that way. She tilted her head, "You mean the Istra? Her name's Alistra...u-um if you mean the company I work for then it's The Echo." There was also the Mulidais and her Paistra, and even though those were supposed to be a secret, telling Myrnin wouldn't do any harm. It's not like he was from her world and could do something about it. She wasn't opposed to telling him about that. "Change...?" The wolf assumed that by 'change', Myrnin meant emotionally. Going with that conclusion, she related all too well. "T-Twenty-five being part of your childhood? H-How old are you?" Was he one of those people who were in their 40s but looked to be in their 20s? Of course, she still didn't know that asking for age and weight was considered rude. Eises then looked disheartened for a second, "You were sold too?" Her ears flattened and she looked away for a few seconds. "Y-Yeah, um, here." To make up for the previous questions, she had her palms face upwards and within seconds a crown made of Serian appeared. "I-I used to make these as a kid too, when we played kings and queens." She planned on giving it to him, but her fingers pointed inwards and stiffened suddenly, causing the crown to crack and fall apart. "R-R-Read my mind?! When did you read my mind?" She wasn't mad at all, but moreso surprised. She didn't think something like that was even possible. Due to Calibris being in control during that room, Eises had no recollection of it happening. She barely remembered anything from the room in fact. This was when she would black out completely while Calibris was awake. "O-Oops..." Eises didn't mean to break the crown. She decided to use the broken pieces to make another small and horned mouse in one hand. With the other hand, she made another Serian crown and had it float over to Myrnin. With the creation of another mouse, the ice-lion from before leaped at her hand. Eises yelped and stepped back, narrowly dodging the large feline as it landed near her. It shook its haunches again before leaping again, this time for the ice-bird that sat on her hand. It squacked as she ducked, once again barely dodging as the lion leaped over her head. The ice-bird started flying away, and she watched as the lion chased after it. She didn't realise that during this time the ice-monkey had gathered a snow ball, and by the time she straightened up her back, it threw the snowball right at her face.

Not long after Eises’ arrival, a rather unusual young man appeared, standing in the living room across from the sofa. His skin was grey, his hair was black, and his entire outfit consisted of shades of black and grey. It was almost as if he’d stepped out of a black and white illustration, but not quite. His eyes had been closed at first but they’d snapped open almost immediately, as if the change in his surroundings had been obvious without looking. They were not normal eyes, nor were they grey. His eyes were a strange golden yellow color, surrounded by black where there should have been white and they seemed to be glowing slightly. He quickly took a step back from the wolfgirl on the sofa, pulling his hood down to hide his face with one hand while reaching for something hidden by his cloak with the other. He had no idea why he was in a house or how he’d gotten there, but the first thing that leapt to his mind was that she must have realized what he was. Had she brought him them? Could she be a Shadehunter? But... wolf ears and a tail? She definitely didn’t look like anyone he’d seen before, and what sort of Shadehunter would use magic to send a shade to their house? It didn’t make sense. Finally he spoke, his voice low and cautious. “Why am I here? Who are you?”

--cato phoenixEises stretched her arms and rested them on the top of the sofa. I'm sure she'll understand, usually she listens to me, and I don't think she'd want to see me get hurt. She continued to stare blankly in front of her while she became lost in thought with a hint of stress. It was a little odd not finding another blinker here already, but she also enjoyed a bit of the silence. She nearly jumped from her skin when someone blinked right in front of her. It was if the House had heard her thoughts. This damn place could give me a little warning at least. A soft beeping before someone blinked in would have been great, something to signal. Eises looked up to the stranger, and noted his skin briefly before he pulled his hood down. Was that a mask? Paint? She decided not to stare and only looked in his general direction. "A-Ah? I-I take it you're new here?" Eises slowly got to her feet. Sitting so casually while talking to a stranger would be a little rude. "U-Um, welcome to the Paradox House?" She was terrible with giving explanations on the fly. Of course she had to be the only other blinker here when a new one appeared, just her luck. Leaving a bit of free time one of these days to practice the same explanation sounded like a good idea. She exhaled deeply before continuing, "I-It has a habit of just calling people up whenever it wants, I-I don't really know why..." The House's decisions were always something she never put too much thought into. Trying to figure it out would just give her a headache. "B-But you'll be able to go back home like nothing ever happened, s-so don't worry! You can call me Eises." Did I miss anything? ....I missed something, didn't I? She fell quiet for a few seconds to think. "O-Oh! U-Um -" She then pointed to the hallway door, "-there's a bunch of doors through there. Don't go in them by yourself."

Sam | Lodge (Hope you don't mind if I blink Sammy out for now. Juggling a lot this week. ^^ ) The thin cuts along Sam's face and arms slowly closed, leaving no sign that they had been there. After all, he was a vampire. That was how this worked. He hurriedly followed after Ougi and Sherlock, the door closing behind him with difficultly before a gust of wind finally blew in the opposite direction and slammed the door closed. The silence, even as snow already slowly began to melt of shoes, was vastly different from the outside of the building. "Is everyone alri-" started Sam, only to be completely cut off as he blinked out.

[[ Mordecai || Living Room || Numquam ]] Already, Mordecai had a few ideas of what would happen when she noticed him; If she was a Shadehunter, she would attack him, if not, she would most likely run away screaming, or maybe stay there, frozen in fear and try to plead for her life. Unless by some miracle she hadn’t realized what he was yet, she probably wouldn’t be answering either of his questions. He watched her reaction as well as he could without looking up and revealing his face again. Considering the way she jumped and momentarily froze looking in his direction... she had seen him. Or maybe she didn’t and she’s just shocked by the way you appeared out of thin air, he reminded himself. When she finally spoke, her words confused him. They just... weren’t making sense. New here? New where? It was like she understood why he was there but hadn’t expected him either. He could sense something else- maybe someone else- nearby as well, but the energy of the building itself made it difficult to pinpoint. Was it enchanted to make it harder for a shade to sense energy? Maybe it was a trap, just a really strange one. Mordecai tensed as the odd ra’sierri- he wasn’t sure what else she could be- got up from the couch. She didn’t seem aggressive though so he doubted that she was a Shadehunter... Unless she was just a distraction and the other energy he sensed was the hunter. “Paradox House...” he repeated thoughtfully, trying to remember if he’d heard those words before. The shade tilted his head slightly as he listened to Eises’ explanation. Honestly... she sounded kind of crazy. Unless he was misunderstanding something, she seemed be under the impression that the building they were standing in was alive and that it had brought him there by itself. It did seem to have a very strong energy of its own, but that had to be some sort of illusion or enchantment... right? Why should I believe her? he asked himself, Why do I feel like I should? It was true though, he did feel like he could believe her, despite the fact that she was a total stranger stammering what should have seemed like nonsense. “Oh, I, uh... nice to meet you,” Mordecai replied, blinking a couple of times as he refocused on the conversation. It had been awhile since he’d actually spoken with someone and though he had asked, he hadn’t really expected her to tell him who she was. It just seemed so... normal. “So, you’re saying that this... House, brought me here?” He asked, hesitantly placing his hand on the wall behind him. It should have been impossible, but it did feel alive. Curious, he glanced in the direction of the door she’d indicated. “Why, what’s behind them?”

At Matt's shouted warning, Volt shook her head in frustration. "Would you rather be shot?!
She stood with swords crossed in front of her to deflect the shots from the guard's energy weapon. Three had vanished, but in the process had revealed a weakness: they teleported not under their own power, but with an electronic device.
Despite being abandoned, the remaining guard was bound and determined to protect this mysterious black case at all costs. Volt advanced one step at a time, watching for an opening. "You wont win this." She warned him. "Surrender."
The 'or else' was heavily implied. Volt might have taken the 'or else' option from the beginning if The Doctor hadn't been present, it would have saved a significant amount of time. As it was, the Tenno was leaving an opening for the time-lady to intervene if she so valued this enemy's life.

Zacharie and Ougi - Inside Lodge - Sherlock, Legosi
Zacharie uprighted himself when the great wooden door swung open. It was powered so strongly by the blizzard outside that it continued its trajectory and whacked into the wall with a booming clang. The merchant nearly flipped the tray of snacks on the ground as he stumbled to his feet to get a better look at who had arrived. One of them blinked out on the spot, but two more were there. “Oh, hello there. You must be from that big shadowy mass outside,” he presumed rather casually. “Good to see everyone is all right.”
Ougi was fading back into her old self, stepping into the room with Sherlock and Samuel but avoiding the fire. Ordinarily one would run to it first, but she was the opposite of something warm and bright. Especially right now. She held the coat Sherlock had given her over her shoulders, with no intention of returning it. “You two are absurd,” she mumbled, finally allowed to be upset about their intrusion earlier. They could have died. It would have been idiotic of them, to say the least. She approached Zacharie and Legosi and gave them both a curious look, based on their appearances alone. One with a mask, and one an upright wolf. Had she seen either of them in the Paradox House before? “...Hello.” With that, she continued her streak of refusing to introduce herself to new people, especially before they introduced themselves.

Ononoki - spaceship room - matt, the doctor, volt
Ononoki wore a tired expression for a kid. It was the most emotion she could show, to suggest that the Doctor was annoying her. “Without harm?” She needed a moment to process. Even with the commotion, the threat, Volt’s life on the line, Ononoki had no sense of urgency. “I could use Unlimited Rulebook. But it would likely kill the enemy, or both them and Electric Sister.” Which was what she always called Volt. She stayed crouched behind their shelter and admitted defeat; she would be no more useful than the outcome that was already playing out.

(Nah, it's good uwu- also, hope you're feeling better!) Spinel looked a little confused at his response. However, she didn’t let that faze her; she smiled back, before turning to the blue glow. “Mm-hm,” she mumbled with a slight dip of her head, before adding in case it was helpful, “They came out of the gemstone over there.” This made her pause- was there a gem in there? Reforming maybe? She didn’t get much time to think about this, however, as Sandalphon’s duplicate came into view once more. She frowned slightly, concern edging her features. Meanwhile, her copy stared at him with smug satisfaction, as though trying to goad him; a fact that was made blatantly obvious a moment later as she pouted when Sandalphon stepped up. Darn, guess she’ll have to wait for more fun. Ah well. Their reactions to the information the fake spilt were clearly contrasting. Spinel just looked confused and unsure on what, if she should, say. Her fake merely narrowed her eyes, keeping a mental tab on it in case it would be useful later. Other than that, both of them descended into silence, watching as Sandalphon replied to his copy, only for him to summon his swords once more. The only acknowledgements to this action were a dark look, and a hand clutching her gem for Spinel. “Alrighty,” the latter replied, before tacking on a small, “Good luck!” With that, the gem stepped back and began to watch, eyes wide. Her copy, however, had different plans. Her magenta eyes went back and forth, watching the battle with absent-minded interest. Her thoughts were mainly consumed on what was going to happen next. It seemed like a losing battle for the real Primarch- if he did get defeated, then she’d probably launch herself at the fake anyways. A challenge, per se; he’d probably also be a bit weak with luck. If Sandalphon did win, however, she had a far different idea; she knew that she would probably get poofed or shattered herself; why not? She was a spare, not the real thing, correct? No, she’d have to do something big, something that would be one last punch instead of sitting on the sidelines any farther. Hm. The fake kept watching, letting her thoughts broil and stew in her head. HᥲꙆƒꙆɩɠᖾt

Touka | Lodge | Iceclaw and mintedstar/fur |"Myrnin," she said, swallowing hard. "It's going to be okay. Listen, I need you to breathe, because - " Her breath caught in her throat and she reached for him, grasping at air as he turned her back to her. "Myrnin, stop. Myrnin - " But he walked away. Touka leaned forward, a hand over her mouth as the pain in her chest swelled into her throat and up into her head. Her hand slid away from Rex's, and she crumpled in on herself, almost doubled over as the awful feeling of loss she'd been trying to avoid finally took her over and left no room for anything else at all. She'd been strong when her father had died, because Ayato had needed her to be. She'd been strong when Hinami's mother had died, because Hinami had needed her to be. She'd been strong whenever anyone else needed her to be, but now, at the end, with the world closing around her and no one at all who needed her, that part of herself had run away somewhere, and she was left in the dark, suddenly sure that she'd never, ever been strong to begin with.

Matt | Spaceship room | »ƑαƖcση Razzle Dazzle mintedstar/fur |"Nobody has to shoot anybody if we can just calm down for a second!" shouted Matt, exasperated, as Volt called back to him. "Listen, every - HEY!" He protested loudly as he started forward, only to be immediately dragged back to the ground by the doctor. Practically seething with frustration now, he scrambled in the dust, trying to reorient himself so he could see what was going on. "Doc!" he said, rounding on the person next to him. "This is insane! There didn't need to be a fight in the first place, if everyone had just waited half a second before pulling out all these weapons! I can still salvage this, but you gotta let me out there! Please?" He glanced back and forth between Doc and Ononoki, desperate. "This can't go on long without somebody getting hurt!"

Crutchie | Worst Cooks in America the House | mintedstar/fur Cloverleaf Right, well this wasn’t awkward at all, Crutchie thought as he watched the other two share their names. It wasn’t like Eurydice had just threatened Myrnin with a knife, or Myrnin had actually bled when it touched him… no, none of that had happened at all. They were just having a pleasant conversation while Crutchie made bread, Eurydice stuffed herself, and Myrnin… didn’t touch the supply of completely free food. Then again, Crutchie supposed he didn’t actually know if Myrnin was capable of eating actual food, or if there was something preventing him from doing that. “Yep, I’m ‘uman,” Crutchie replied, glaring at Myrnin for asking the question. “She ain’t even been ‘ere five minutes and you’se asking ‘er if she’s ‘uman?” He crossed his arms. “You ever think maybe that’s a weird question to ask someone who ain’t been ‘ere that long yet?” He frowned, turning back to his bread and shoving a piece in his mouth. If Eurydice wanted to answer the question she could, of course. It was just that… Crutchie had a feeling he would have been confused and likely more than a little frightened if someone had asked him that before he’d gotten used to the idea of the Paradox House.

Eises sheepishly scratched the back of her head, "I-It's a little weird at first, but you get used to it..." She wouldn't be surprised if he didn't believe her at the moment. She remembered how during her first blink, she assumed there was a hallucination spell at work and Ferre was simply part of it. It wasn't until her second blink that she fully believed him. "Y-Yeah. I-I don't think anyone knows why it brings us here, I just go along with it. T-There's nothing to worry about at least, time freezes in our worlds when we're brought here." Eises wasn't kidding when she said it was as if they didn't leave their worlds. It was convenient for the most part, but awkward at other times. The memories of blinking in when she was a bloody, broken-boned mess made her want to grit her teeth. "Er...how to explain..." The wolf was surprised with how well she was explaining so far. "The doors lead to really random places, s-sometimes it looks like a regular room, but sometimes it's...an entire forest or a different building. Sometimes they don't have anything bad, b-but other times it's dangerous." That was another thing the House could have at least done for them, some kind of warning of what type of room you're about to enter. Eises really wasn't fond of surprises, which was a little ironic considering how often she ran into them. "You'll never know what you're gonna get until you enter." Did I get all the bases covered? Her mind was going a little to fast to think properly. "A-Ah! What's your name, by the way?" Eises couldn't believe that wasn't the first thing she asked. She knew she was forgetting something. He wouldn't get offended over that, would he? Memories of interacting with the rich Theians in Vers were a little too fresh in her mind.

Sheelock entered the lodge, exhaling in relief as he made it inside. The door shut behind him, and he immediately noticed Sam had blinked out, which was probably a good thing. - maybe wherever he’d gone was warmer. He turned back and headed for the fire, but before he could get there he vanished, leaving his coat behind. In his own world, he would still be covered in scratches and mysteriously his coat would be gone, causing no end of remarks from Mrs. Hudson and Inspector Lestrade as they tried to work out what had happened to him. (Apologies for the short post, I’ve been super busy and probably can’t keep up with the pace right now cx)
