Was he a good deputy? At the end of SD he reveals his true motives, but still. He was kind of a jerk during SD, and who's he to "test" Leafstar?
I mean, he's a good deputy, but I feel that someone like Sparrowpelt could have been a better first choice.

I like him, and would have preferred him over Leafstar.

I always thought he was a bit too pushy and annoying, I didn't really like him, especially when he constantly sneered at the daylight warriors (I don't think it's a good idea either, for many reasons, but he was just straight-up rude and terrible). Sharpclaw was always testing Leafstar's limits, and when he was sneaking behind her back during the night really turned me away from liking him.

Sharpclaw was eh to me. Far too scathing and sneaking behind backs, dreadful to lots of cats. A strong deputy, yes, and he does care for his clan. I realllly like him and Cherrytail. But nah, I kinda wish Cherry or Tiny would become deputy.

he was a strong deputy, yes, but a good one? i wouldn't say that. a good deputy shouldn't be going behind their leader's back to "test them".

I don't really think Sharpclaw was that great of a deputy. he constantly went behind her back, and was just plain rude to the daylight warriors. in the end he may have been loyal to his clan, but overall his actions and his lack of support for Leafstar made him seem unfit to be a leader to a clan like Skyclan.

He was kind of "meh". Not awful, but far from stellar.

I personally like him. He was brave and loyal. However he could have been a bit hard at times. To be honest, Sharpclaw is a Whitestorm kind of cat. Not in personality, but . . . he's the kind of cat who would make a good deputy, but not quite a leader, so that's the highest rank he would get. Sharpstar just doesn't appeal to me. Sharpclaw the deputy does though. I can also understand his concerns about the daylight warriors. What if a cat is more loyal to their Twolegs than SkyClan? What if the Clan is attacked at night when half the warriors are away living as kittypets? There's a reason why cats shouldn't live with a paw in two worlds.
I admire him as a good deputy, though, and he served SkyClan well. I like him; he's not my top favorite character, but he'd be pretty up high the list of all the characters in the series.

I don't think Sharpclaw was that good of a deputy- but when the clan at the time was less than 4 adult cats, he was the only plausible choice. Had there been more options I don't think he would have been chosen. But that's the same thing with Leafstar, anyway. She was only chosen as leader because she had the most leadership skills out of the other few adult cats- nevermind she was a loner all her life.
But that said that still doesn't really excuse how he acted. A deputy is a deputy, not a co-leader, and whether you have Firestar there to ask questions or not, it's common sense that he shouldn't have gone behind her back like that. Sharpclaw failed to do several things even basic apprentices and warriors should have known.
