Personally, I like him so far. He's sort of like a more effective Sol in a way, but knows how important rules are and won't tolerate any laziness either, even from his own cats. He knows how to balance between brute strength and just using pure manipulation. He didn't even have to take over ShadowClan by force, rather they came to him out of fear and desperation thanks to the yellowcough that would've been cured a lot sooner had it not been for Onestar.
I also like how he seemed to care for Hawkwing at least enough to want him on his side.
Hopefully we'll finally get to know the reason behind his actions in the next book.

I like him as a villain. He's interesting and like you say, a slightly better version of Sol. His character is mush more in-depth than Sol and I agree that it was a nice touch that he cared for Hawkwing. Do you think it's possible that he liked Hawkwing? As in potentially be more than friends? I was getting these vibes but it might just be me!

I'm not reading the books anymore but from what i've been seeing from you guys, I like him. He's smart and strong and he knows what to do in order to trick cats to believe that he's right or his ways are better.

Despite his cliche name, I think his personality and character definitely make up for it big time. Like you said, he does a really good job not making the mistakes several other villains have made- at least so far. He's basically all the villains we have had so far put together just more refined. Like Tigerstar and Sol, he's figured out the tactic of conquering clans without unsheathing a single claw, and like Mapleshade he's not only clever and deceptive but also isn't throwing out his true motives and ideas around very easily and only at the last resort.
And what I personally think makes him one of the most successful villains so far is how he fixed Scourge's ultimate weakness of BloodClan falling apart when he died. While I do think ShadowClan is still weak since he doesn't appear to have a second-in-command, which is vital if he wants his ideas and way of life to live on after he's gone, and what I honestly think will cause ShadowClan's fall, unlike Scourge, he doesn't have to rely on himself solely for guidance and leadership. He not only has the support of his rogue followers, but also the converted clan followers in making sure the less motivated and questioning cats are kept in line. Several ShadowClan cats are only there because they have fellow-shadowclan cats-turned-rogue- who keep convincing them to stay. That includes Dawnpelt's kits, Needletail and her gang.
It's like a pyramid of loyalty: Darktail gives orders to the rogues and the ShadowClan loyalists, and those loyalists then make sure the less loyal SC cats like Dawnpelt and Violetpaw are kept in check.

I feel like he's a mix between Sol and Hawkfrost. Manipulative but also a brute in battle. It's a good mix. So far he's a very effective villain, and probably the first tom villain I actually like. I just hope the Erins don't give him a same old same old motivation behind his actions.

I don't really have an opinion. He hasn't done enough for me to have an opinion on him

I like him. Darktail seems like a good strategist, and knows how to manipulate really well. When I first read that he attacked Rain, I was a bit surprised. But then I remembered that he can change in a blink of an eye. He seems like a mastermind.

I like him and he is a realistic character. I like how he has a soft side with Hawkwing and cared about him a little bit. But he's rather boring, a mixture of Sol and maybe even Tigerstar. Wanting power and very manipulative, and gained others' trust with his powerful words.
But again, I don't have a problem with Darktail. I actually like him and he's a decent villain so far. I just hope the Erins won't ruin him with a sob story that we don't need later on.

I like his complex character and unique views.
But I look forward to his or his fellow rouge's downfalls.

I really like how Darktail is turning out to be right now. He's intelligent and manipulative, which are traits that I've always found to make villains more interesting than dumb brutes who rules with just their simple strength. Although I like how he has mysterious origins, the main thing I'm afraid about for him right now is his backstory. I really don't want him to be the type if cat that takes power because he just really wants power and no other reason. I also don't want a super sad backstory, I think I can tolerate a need for revenge or something, but I don't want his entire family to get killed by someone connected to the Clans and the Erins wanting us to feel like his actions are somewhat justified. He has overall good potential, and I like how he took advantage of the rebellious feeling in ShdowClan and used it to further his own agenda.

I find him refreshing. It's nice to have a villain who is both powerful and manipulative, and successful at what they do.
I'm interested in his backstory, and I wonder if he's a former Clan cat, or at least knew of them… How else would he know how to get to the lake from the gorge? It's been confirmed that he's not from Skyclan, but maybe an older warrior the Clans forgot about? Or maybe is a rogue tired of how the Clans treat outsiders… That would really be refreshing, since we haven't really seen the consequences of that… Not to mention it would give the rebels some justification…

I just read his introduction on TAQ and while I don't have a good opinion on him yet, he's really chilling. It's a nice change of pace.

He is a true villian so far. I hope that his background story don't turn out to be a revenge thing as it was with Mapleshade.

The Erins are definitely improving their villains. Tigerstar and Scourge were poorly written, but Sol and Darktail I love.
