Yep! I've been doing some research and apparently I am currently writing a lot in dead genres that really wouldn't get traditionally published because there's no market. I wanna try aiming for traditional publishing once I get things polished enough, but I'm probably going to have to place a lot of the stories I'm currently writing on a back-burner for a stretch. ^^ But that aside, I have a lot of stories to tell and I'm looking forward to seeing how they go. Well one never knows when one can spark interest in a "dead" genre. Can always rename its niche too. My story of Old gent, the biography of a Norway Spruce tree, from the tree's point of view has no real genrre! When I enter it in contest, or a listing, its very difficult determining where it goes because it is unusual. But not unheard of since books like Big Tree and The Little Fir Tree are similar. Can't go total nonfiction since it is written from the tree's pov and they speak in their treeish language. Even Khan's story can be hard if there is no animal or pet category to list with, because even tho it is predominantly nonfiction, there are some fantasy elements and I do this story thru his eyes so it falls into semi fictional work. Can be tough to categorize. Even my scifi is hard to categorize within the scifi genre but I call them "Alien family sagas" I do see a day when traditional publishing will be a small market as more and more go Independent. Its harder in many ways but we have full control over everything from cover to everything inside. I wish I was younger and had more time in my writing life. . .

You are very right! There's a lot to be said about trying to fit a book in a specific genre. I remember reading Khan and actually thinking "wow ... it'd be hard to place this in a single genre or even find it fit "properly" in one". My book is YA speculative fiction, coming of age, urban fantasy, and a bunch of everything else rolled into one. It's crazy trying to work out what to do with it. You still got some good years ahead, I know it!

Sometimes if it is cross genre one can list the different ones it fits. On Amazon with Khan's book I used memoirs, biography, animals. cats, Maine Coons, as keywords. Someone nominated it in the Top Shelf 2020 book awards and I think they had an animal category. With Old gent, the Norway Spruce, dang I have a hard time with that one. It got an award in "novelty/gift" catagory once but, it really has no specific category. On Amazon and another place I had to list keywords I used the keywords tree, Norway spruce, biography, and nature.

That Old Gent book sounds the most difficult, not gonna lie. XD How's the writing going? Its going well! Things are slowly coming to the head and the big scene that ends Book III and the "trilogy" Its not a true trilogy because between book II and Book III 3 years elapse while Book I flows right into Book II. But I call it one anyway because it all ties together. Yep OLD GENT is so hard to categorize. What genre is it? LOL nature? Well maybe LOL. It is about trees, but not on the general sense. I gave a copy to a good friend of ours, and she just loved it and said she'd never imagine crying over a Tree. Hehehe guess I have the gift. When she came to our place with her husband who is one of my usband's long time friends she pointed at two of the trees in the yard and gasped "OH my that is Young Dude and Young Gent!" As if she was meeting a star LOL I was happy that someone could love them like I do. But when listing it for sale or entering it in a writing or book contest OY, what genre is it??? Only the Tree Gods know! OH expect a package any day now!

IT CAME IN TODAY! I opened it up and had great difficulty lifting them! I can't wait to start reading them! Glad they arrived safe! Maybe I should have sent hardcover! For some reason the hardcovers are not as heavy as the soft cover!! Not sure why. I did have them wedged in the box with packing. A left over from my employ in a shipping dept! Do let me know what you think.

How odd! I wouldn't expect them to weigh less. But hey, I'm pleased! Big books means lots to read! And I will indeed let you know what I think!

I did not either LOL For example Book II --the HC weigh 2 lbs 6 oz and the soft 2 lbs 13 oz! Its not a huge difference but weird since the hc is only 4 pages less. The hc is 6x9 size while the soft is I think 7x9.5. Might be the format size that made the difference, but I'd imagine if I did the soft cover in the same size format it would be thicker! I hope you enjoy them.

No clue. That's so weird. I almost feel like it might have to do with something math-y, but I write. I don't do math. I hope so too! I sent a picture of them through my bookclub too, since I was amused by their weight. XD

Oh fun! That's always nice to hear! It usually means you'll have the time you need to tie up the plot!

Yeah, same here. Seems like all of the US is like that from what I hear from my extended relatives and friends.
In the mean time, since I'm still making up my packages to send to people, you included, did you want any of the New Blood fan art I could find or specific pieces?

I am hoping the new medication that is a combo of a malaria med and an antibiotic will be the treatment and stop the madness. As for the fan art, I will leave that up to you. Whatever you feel like doing is fine with me.

I'd love to. However, I think all my characters are tied up. But if you want to have a character go to the elder's den then my character and one of Bramblepath's characters is there.
