[ an Archie alternate universe roleplay ]
[ an Archie alternate universe roleplay ]
introduction
welcome to Riverdale, Wisconsin. think of a town with only a couple hundred inhabitants, one elementary, middle, and high school. it's got a certain charm to it, even though nothing ever changes and you've known everyone since birth. but that's okay--you've never wanted to leave, anyway. something about Riverdale makes you want to stay, despite its quaint stagnancy.
anyway. long live the blue and gold! go wildcats!
explanation
you must live under a rock if you don't know who Archie is. see? you automatically thought of the bright, smiling teenager who has comic misadventures with his gang of eccentric but lovable friends. (well, maybe you didn't, and in that case, you definitely live under a rock. get some sun sometime, my dude.) isn't that a fun concept--a bunch a' high school-aged kids, messin' around in a small town? now you can see why it was so obvious to me to make a group roleplay based off this, but in an alternate universe setting. the tweaks to the original universe are as follows:
1. this is a modern era setting. characters will have use of social media and television, though they might be a bit out of touch with celebrity news and such due to their relatively remote location.
2. characters only have to follow their respective Archie character's personality, not appearance or sexuality. so, in a way, this is a bit of a claim your character, but you get to determine everything else besides his/her/their persona.
okay, we good? sick. onto the fun stuff now!

locations
βΈ Riverdale High: your home for the next four years! it boasts a small population of roughly 400 kids, so you really get to know everybody. the school probably needs a new paint job, but it's alright.
Soccer/football field
The basketball court
The library
The student quad
βΈ Pop Tate's Choklit Shop: an iconic soda shop that serves malts and shakes that are to die for.
βΈ Pickens' Park: a lovely green park, with a statue of someone's great-great-great granddaddy, who was some Civil War hero, or something.
βΈ Debbie's: a diner that hasn't updated its interior since the 50's. its quaint decorations seem to make the food better, somehow.
βΈ Riverdale Mall: basically, a teeny-tiny collection of chain stores, with a couple fast food places inside. not too impressive, to most standards.
βΈ The beach: well, it's not an ocean beach--it's the shore of Lake Michigan. when the weather's nice, everybody's there.

setting
this roleplay will take place in Riverdale, Wisconsin, an idyllic, and perhaps a bit stereotyped, Midwestern town. think of devout churchgoers, very strong school spirit, staunch Republican adults, a middle class, not too glamorous lifestyle, and little exposure to the outside world. it's all good, though! there's barely any crime and lots of consistency, if that's what you're into. in Riverdale, you and your neighbors are all you got.
for the most part, the weather is somewhat temperate year round, but naturally, the summers tend to be warmer and the winters cooler.

characters & cliques
archie's gang
βΈ the town's favorite kids are in this group, lead by the wonderful Archie. star athleticism, outstanding academic ability, and exemplary character are requirements to get on their group chat. they're some of the most popular kids in school, but surprisingly, aren't hated by many.

reggie's gang
βΈthis is another of the two main groups you wish you could be in. second to only Archie's group, Reggie's is lacks the prestige and "everybody's favorites" image that Archie's has. but, it could be said that these guys have more fun. they (and by they, it's mostly Reggie) have stirred up some enemies, however.

the rest
βΈ you're just one of the normies if you're in this group, but who said that was a bad thing? you're at a comfortable distance from the two main groups to watch their drama unfold without getting caught up in it. but, if you take a side, you've always got your fellow "not quite good enoughs" waiting here for you.
