ok, i like them a lot. i like the boys, i like their music, and i like their sound. but, oh god, the fans. the fans are (mainly) horrible people.
within like the past month they've tried to trick the boys into believing someone killed themselves to try and get a guy to a spot at the front of the pit at the show he was going to. someone accused josh of a REALLY horrible crime just to gain attention. people have sent josh death threats for not letting tyler stay in his apartment when they were in la like what the heck it's HIS apartment?? also the way people act at shows is literally atrocious. the boys are treated like animals. like, literally, it's a complete madhouse.
one of the main reasons i've grown to dislike the fandom so much is because i had a horrible experience at a show too? okay, so i already feel faint like 95% of the time cause i have elevated blood pressure due to an anxiety disorder. so, i went to the venue, and it was really hot that night, so i bought like two bottles of water and brought them back. to the front of the area BEHIND the pit. i wasn't in the pit, but i was right above it, so i could see literally everything that was going on. i was there with my dad, two of my friends, and one of my friend's dads.
the two openers played; i was feeling pretty good. the boys came out and started playing. i was hype like most other people, and by now i'd chugged my two waters because it had to be 95 degrees. so, about halfway through the set i'm feeling faint. we were right next to one of the paths, which was also blocked up with people, so i stumbled back to the bathroom where i literally fell onto the sink because the room started spinning. did anyone in the bathroom help? nope. nope, i pushed myself back off the sink, tried not to throw up, and went out and bought a water. after standing in the back for a minute and not really feeling any better i decided to go back down and find my friends. i came to the spot where my friends were deeper in the crowd.
"excuse me" i said to the older woman in the fandom shirt standing there. she looked at me, didn't move, and turned back to the concert. "excuse me," i said again, and tried to get past her, which was when this little old she devil shoved me?? and i was like oh my god?? so, since she'd shoved first, i just kind of pushed past her and plowed through the crowd until i found my people again.
i stood there for about ten more minutes, beginning to feel progressively worse as the sounds got louder and louder and the lights flashed faster and faster. after that ten minutes passed, i promptly fainted for about ten seconds. my dad then decided it was time to go, but the crowd WOULDN'T LET US MOVE. we tried to push past (meanwhile i was barely even walking, more like flopping around as my dad dragged me), and when we finally broke through we just sort of left and i had to be half-dragged, half-slowly walked back to my car.
so, long story short, their concerts are kinda crap cause a lot of the fans are crap and i didn't enjoy myself all that much and it made me mad the end.

tbh I'm really glad that I don't live in a hot place because I literally could not survive 100 degrees Fahrenheit

I still like tøp, but I don't call myself a fan anymore, simply because I don't want to be associated with the absolutely awful following that they have. It's actually embarrassing.

Comments like that are to be expected, however tasteless and rude they may be. The thing that got me, mostly, was how the fanbase prided themselves in being (supposedly) really deep and cutting edge. Tøp's lyrics, while poetic, are really not that hard to explain. Especially in their newer songs. Tyler's whole "only a few people will understand this" number really annoys me. You're one of the most popular bands with teens today. You're not that profound.

And I'm pretty pretentious myself, so the level at which it's gotten is... for lack of a better word... cringe.

"I wish I wrote a different song no one's ever heard. I wish my mom would just admit she's sick of every word. Overplayed, overstayed, it was a smash hit. Funny how overplayed songs sound like crap. I was told our true fans don't like this song. But I hope they sing along. I hope they sing along."
They literally sang this in place of the lyrics at a concert lmao.

not that this has anything to do with the fandom, but: my one friend went to one of their concerts and fainted before they came on and missed the entire show because she had to go to the hospital

tbh, i've always found them to be really cringe-y, but their fanbase is.... wow
also, omg, that sounds terrible! i've fainted numerous times as well, and it's especially worse when it's in the heat (i fainted after riding a horse once lmao), so i can relate to that. i think that's one of the main reasons as to why i haven't been to a concert honestly.. once you start to feel dizzy/out of it, there isn't much you can do besides sit down, try to calm down, and drink some water or something. rip

like i feel bad that they think that but yikes i mean i guess i could understand where they're coming from in a way but that was just very immature and unnecessary imo plus I always hate the "real fan" thing with any band, and coming from the band itself is just very extra to me. again get over yourselves sry I'm really not trying to hate a band you like, I think their music is catchy and I see why people like them just stuff like that is v off-putting

I always feel the need to clarify that I like their music. I don't like them. I don't like the fans. I like the music. Tbh I feel you though on the whole fainting thing. I've done that twice at choir concerts (where I'm actually preforming, too!) and it's just awful especially if you're in an uncool crowd. The real fan thing is so annoying though because it's like "so I'm not a real fan if I don't know everything about the band members? why can't i be a real fan just for liking the music." true the fandom is so touchy i was talking to some girl next to me at their concert and i told her i don't know all the lyrics to one of their songs that's not even on an available album and she was like WHAT FAKE FAN
