(Dawn and Vince ftw xD )
Jag followed obediently, trusting in his friend's knowledge of such things. He was surprised Vix had allies in this town; as a guard, Jag was used to being treated like an enemy. He did his best to remember Dawn's face- in a pinch, he might be able to rely on her for help. Maybe. "Are you ready?" Jag asked Vince as they slunk around the outside of the building. Ravage was in sight now- it appeared he was distracted, talking to another man and patting him on the shoulder.
(aka Finn ;D )

Ir had had just about enough of the dog. Selecting a nice-sized pebble from the roof next to her, she launched it squarely at the mutt, hitting him directly between the eyes. Cawing in triumph, she lifted her wings and soared to a higher vantage point, the roof of the tavern. She didn't want to risk the dog being able to climb, it would be an extra hassle she didn't need at the moment.

Jag nodded to express his understanding. He stood up straighter and tried to look triumphant, as if he had just disposed of his fox friend. He approached the rat. "Commander Ravage," he said, bowing low for effect. "I've done as you asked."
"Well it's about time!" Ravage answered, barely letting Jag finish his sentence. "What kind of guard takes all night to bury someone? Sheesh, they just let anyone in these days, don't they? I'm going to have to talk to the lower commanders about this." His tail lashed a few times before he added, "I have a new right-hand man. He is your superior and I expect you to treat him as such." He gestured to Finn. "This is..er, the name isn't important. What matters is that he's better than you'll ever be and you should respect him."
Jag was amused that he didn't even have to say anything to get Ravage distracted. He just went off talking on his own. The man standing next to Ravage didn't appear to be a brute like Ravage was. Perhaps he was just using Ravage for his own personal gain.
"..and for some reason all of the guards in this town are incompetent! It's like none of you have been to basic training.." Ravage was in a rambling fury.
Jag rested his hand on his sword non-threateningly. He tried to look casual, but he knew that any second now, his fox friend would jump Ravage and they would take him down together.

(Awesome idea! I'll wait for the perfect time to reveal it > ) Jag waited just a moment longer to signal the attack. He waited until Ravage turned to his lackey to bark an order at him, then Jag motioned for Vince to attack. Jag quickly unsheathed his sword.

(Good point, they were just having their entire conversation in the doorway of the tavern xD ) Fayne- "Okay!" He said with a swift nod. He followed Nikita to the side road, glad to be finally moving around. He never liked standing in one place for too long- he would always start to feel fidgety. He talked to Nikita on the way over. "Where I'm from, bird shifters are rare! Especially noble ones such as yourself! Sometimes we used to get crows on our farm, but they were never very tasty. I mean, real crows. Not shifter crows. Haha, that would taste terrible! I mean, uh, I wouldn't eat a shifter, even if they were a crow..." He decided to stop talking before he accidentally scared some people. ((My wifi is working now! I'm so happy I've missed rping this while I've been dealing with it.)) Nikita snorted and rolled her eyes. Her new companion was wasting no time demonstrating just how skilled he was at putting his foot in his mouth. "I don't take offense," she assured him as they wandered toward the less populated areas, passing fewer people as they continued. The word 'noble' had never been applied to her before, at least not in her earshot, and Nikita couldn't help the flare of pride she felt at Fayne's blatant admiration. It was all point of view; birds like herself marveled at shifters who could swim and those who could swim tended to look at the land creatures with special interest. There was no need to go telling Fayne that, though. Noble was a descriptor she could get used to. Finally, she found a secluded road that almost looked more like an alley and stopped walking.

(Yay wifi, finally! Lol, I just died at your first paragraph xD ) Fayne trotted along behind Nikita and nearly bumped into her when she stopped. He was so excited to see her wings that he was losing his mind in anticipation. "Here is good, right? Nobody's around!" He asked quickly. "Show me your wings!" He was jumping around so much that one would probably think he was a squirrel rather than a wolf.

"Patience, Fayne," Nikita teased.
Before beginning, she pulled off her leather boots so her talons wouldn't tear them and took a closed her eyes so she could better focus on her shift. She had never managed a full shift, but she took great pride in her half-shift.
The first part was easily the most uncomfortable. Her calves split in the middle to create another joint - these ones facing the opposite direction of her knees - while thinning at the same time. The skin there faded from her typical tanned legs to yellow, then grew rougher. As her feet began extending to form her large talons, the skin on her hands and wrists began to turn yellow and rough as well. Her nails did not grow as long on her hands, but they were still sharp enough to cause serious damage.
Only after she was steady on her feet did her golden-brown feathers begin to appear. Some sprouted from her head, mixing with her mop of short brown hair, while others sprouted along the sides of her face. The largest concentration of feathers was around her shoulder blades, which seemed to extend as the feathers grew more numerous. This portion of her shift was careful and coordinated so that her wings never grew faster than the feathers could cover them. She could have tried to claim that it was to protect the bare skin, but it was simply prettier in her opinion. Her wings grew and grew, jointing multiple times and spreading outwards until they finally stopped at nearly ten feet each. Finally, she opened her eyes and grinned.

(Yeah, phones are the worst xD )
Ravage froze mid-sentence. Something wasn't quite right. He raised his tail, ready to attack. Except his tail didn't move. He wondered if it fell asleep or something. He checked over his shoulder and turned pale when he realized what had happened. Suddenly the shock of the injury had worn off, and the base of his tail felt like it was on fire, burning with pain. Ravage yowled with pain, shock, and anger. He looked up from his detached tail and saw a fox. THE fox. He was too dumb-stricken to do anything but stand there with his jaw open. Just then, Jag came up from behind and slammed the blunt end of his sword handle into the back of Ravage's head. Ravage fell to the ground, sending up a cloud of dust around him.

Jag- "Yeah, I thought he'd be tougher than that too. Guess even he isn't immune to surprise attacks. I suppose we'd either have to finish the job or tie up his tail so he doesn't bleed to death."
Ravage lay face-first on the dirt. He didn't pass out from the hit on his head- he refused to. He clenched his fists tighter and tighter. His evil red eye glinted as he smiled an evil, toothy smile. He began laughing. Louder, and louder. He raised himself off the ground with his arms, which were getting more muscular by the second. His chest grew wider and he grew claws on his increasingly giant hands. "You think I'm a fool?!" He said in a monstrous voice that was barely understandable. Now he was twice his original size. Horns grew from multiple parts of his body. "There's a reason I'm the head army commander of this country. It is because I am not a fool! In my youth, I made a deal with a necromancer and I became a mix of the most powerful races in the world!" He roared an earthshaking roar. "I am greatness. I am power. I...am....UNSTOPPABLE!"

Fayne gulped. He was a little bit squeamish and transforming into a bird form looked more uncomfortable than when he transformed into a wolf. Maybe even a little painful, with the feathers and all. Fayne preferred to stay in his half form, but he was always willing to go through the transformation if he had the chance to run fast. Before he knew it, Nikita was done with her transformation. "You're so beauti- I MEAN AWESOME. I said awesome." He ran around her in circles, picking up her wing and inspecting it.

Vincent took a step back at the sight of Ravage now, feeling disappointed in himself for not knowing to deal with the rat while he was still face down instead of waiting on what to do with him. However, because his tail was now missing, he couldn't use it as his main weapon against them, and his balance would be off without it. Plus, the bigger they are, the harder they fall. He gripped the hilt of his onyx black blade tighter in his paw, pulling his ears back a little and looking his enemy dead in the eye- without fear. He had once worked with Ravage, back when he was a guard, he knew the rat's weaknesses and where to hit him at.

XD ) Ravage had transformed into a hulking, monstrous creature. He had always known he could do it, but this was only his second time in this form. He felt bulky and unsteady. His tail would have grown much larger too, had it still been attached to him. He was going to have to find a new way to fight. "I'll show you all not to mess with Ravage!" He took a clumsy step forward. "Especially you, Fox." He added, looking Vince dead in the eye. "I'm going to enjoy this, just as much as I enjoyed destroying your old man!" He threw his head up in the air to laugh. "Now pathetic father and son will both die my my tail!" Ravage had momentarily forgotten he didn't have a tail anymore; he awkwardly fumbled around looking for it until he realized he was making a fool of himself. Instead, he threw out a clumsy paw in hopes of scratching someone.

(Now I'm a bit concerned lol XD.)
At the sound of Ravage's words when he described the murder of his father, Vince froze with a look of wide eyes, lips parted in shock. He had almost become like a statue, his body wouldn't move while images of when he found his father in fatal condition and bleeding to death when he was a young child flashed back and forth in his head.
Flashback...
It was a chilly night, and the streets were quiet up until a frightened little voice rang out.
"Dad! Dad!", a young boy, an anthro fox cub, shouted as he ran toward a beaten form lying on the ground just a few feet away from him, getting closer as he did. The young fox knelt on his knees beside the form, almost frozen as he was unsure of what to do while looking for signs of life. He put his small paws on the form's shoulders and shook it with as much strength as he could muster. "Dad?...", the young fox said in a brittle voice, laced with the fear of a child.
"Vincent...Me lad...", came a voice from the form who was also an anthro fox that heaved with pain wracking his body from the severe wounds he had sustained in an ordeal unknown to the young fox who seemed to be his son. "Listen to me lad...Take this dagger, and keep it with you no matter what...", the older fox said, handing his son a dagger that shined in the glints of moonlight, crested with an aqua aura quartz in the middle of its hilt.
The young fox took it reluctantly and looked down at it, bigger than his small paws, and then back up at his father, who evidently was dying.
"But dad...! What about you?!", the young fox cried, ears drooping backward on instinct to his emotions.
"Don't cry laddie. As long as you have that dagger, and never forget me, I'll always be...Close to you. Remember what I taught ya...", the older fox said with a slight smile, but winced at a sharp pain that took his breath away before he could finish his last sentence, and he tried to continue even though he was losing strength fast. "Remember, those that disobey orders receive no mercy...But those that turn against their friends, receive no forgiveness...Do you understand me lad?", he asked, speaking weaker than he just was a moment ago.
The young fox hesitated as he took in the words, and nodded a couple times. Be he was denying the truth that he was losing his father before his eyes. "Please hang in there! I-I'll get help! I'll go find someone to help you!", the young fox said, and quickly began to get up to turn and run to find help, but he was grabbed by the ankle by his father's paw.
"No Vince!...I won't make it, I'm dying...", the older fox said, and as his words sank into his son, he could see tears well up in the young fox's eyes. "Don't cry for me...I'll see you again me lad, someday...", he smiled again, despite how much pain he was in. It was getting harder to breathe or keep his eyes open, and his grip on his son's leg began to loosen until he eventually let go, having no strength left.
"Please...Hang on...Hang on! I'm not going to let you die like Momma!", cried the little fox, as he turned back and knelt down again beside his father, paws on his father's chest and tears gliding through his fur from his eyes.
"Too late fer that, laddie...Don't ferget what I told ya...Don't ferget me, and don't ferget yer mother...We're always with you...And we'll be waiting for the day, we'll see you...Again...", the older fox said. "You...Are...Me son...And I love you, more than anythin' in this world...Remember that Vincent...Remember...Remember...", he added, letting out his last breath with the trailing words of his last sentence, and his head fell to the side, eyes closed for the final time, and he didn't move again.
"Dad...?", the little fox shook with sorrow and fear, but got no answer. "Dad?", he said again, and still no response. His father was gone, and he couldn't do anything about it. He looked down at the ground as he tried to hold back from crying, until he couldn't anymore and threw his head back, letting out a cry of anguish. He was alone, his father was all he had left and he just witnessed his death, now he had no-one. Alone without a friend, alone without a guardian, alone...
As the flashback came to an end in his mind, Vince came to the realization that Ravage was finally attacking, and didn't have time to react. What seemed like forever to him was only seconds in the real world, and before he know it he was sent backward as Ravage's claws slashed across his face knocking him back a couple fox lengths.

(Dang, your writing is truly fantastic! I'm crying! Poor Vince :'[ )
Jag jumped back and easily dodged the wildly thrown attack. He saw Vince out of the corner of his eye and he could tell Ravage's words affected him. Jag ran over to him. "Vix, you've gotta snap out of it!" He shouted, grabbing Vince by the shoulders and straightening him up. According to Ravage's words, Vix's father was dead, and Ravage was the murderer. Jag shook his head- this was all very confusing. He dodged another poorly aimed attack from the beast. Raising his sword, he sliced diagonally across Ravage's arm, leaving a long, deep scratch. This new version of Ravage might seem more powerful, but it was obvious that Ravage didn't know how to fight without his tail.

(Aww! I seem to find that I like the angsty things, and do best at writing sad scenes. Or so I've been told XD.)
Vince shook his head wildly as he tried to get his mind back together, and rubbed his paw over where Ravage got him, having two large gashes across his right cheek that stained his fur red. He seemed still stunned by what he was told from the rat, and watched as Jag, someone he didn't think would be as supportive of a friend to him as he was another enemy some time before, fight the monstrous Ravage alone while he stood there looking like a dimwit. His mind reeled, while he tried to focus, and his father's words repeated themselves in his ears. He looked up at Ravage again with a frown and a snarl slowly creeping onto his face. "No forgiveness...", he said in a quiet growl, picking up his sword and gripping it tightly in one paw, while drawing the dagger his father had given him that fateful night in the other. "No mercy!", he yelled in a snarl as he charged Ravage, running passed him and cutting at the rat's legs with his sword, and his feet with his dagger. If Ravage has nothing to support his massive weight, he won't be able to move around much, and it would give him and Jag the upper advantage.

(Haha, such drama!)
Jag blinked as a flash of red flew by. For a moment he thought he was bleeding, but then he realized it was just Vince, racing into the fray. Glad that his friend was by his side, he began fighting even more ferociously. Jag loved his father- and if this monster had killed him the way he'd killed Vince's father, Jag knew he'd be in a blind rage also. Vix was obviously in pain, which made Jag even more mad. He charged in with a fury of heavy blows, in the name of his friend.
Ravage completely ignored Jag, even though Jag was cutting him up with his sword. All of his anger was focused on the fox. "Both you and your father tried to make a fool out of me!" He screeched. "Now you will both die!"
