The omen-teller felt the same as Gingerear - it was always a wonderful feeling to know that a Clanmate was doing fine, especially when that Clanmate was a loyal member and a true friend. Honeyteller enjoyed spending time with cats like Gingerear who were so easy to get along with and were just so easy to be around. In a way hanging around Gingerear was like being around Amberstep - comforting, relaxing, and peaceful. Though, there was a difference between the two she-cats. Gingerear was nothing of a romance. She was practically a sister, the kind of cat Honeyteller would go to when she felt like she needed to talk to a littermate. With Amberstep it was different, something there that went past the stage of feeling like a sibling. That feeling had never been there when it came to Amberstep, but instead there was something deeper. But right now wasn’t the time to dive into such thoughts and ideas. Right now it was about spending time with her friend - and about Amberstep, well, Honeyteller was sure to visit her soon. Hunting? It had been a while since Honeyteller had tried her paws at hunting; last time she went she had only come back with a puny bluebird. ”Before we know it the Clan will be flooding with prey,” the leader joked. She then flicked her tail in thought, wondering if she was really all that hungry. There was a slight hole in her stomach where prey could feel it up, but she wasn’t exactly starving or anything of the sorts. After a moment of debating she shrugged and sat down to make herself comfortable. ”I wouldn’t mind a bite or two.” Using her paw she nudged it right up to Gingerear. ”Take the first bite. You’re probably hungrier than I am.”
- - -
Ugh, boring, boring, boring, so boring. That was life in the healers’ den for Sagepaw. The young she-cat groaned, rolling in her nest as that was practically the only thing she could do, at least while one of the healers were watching. A sharp intake of breath signaled that she was still sore and rolling around brought pain shooting up her spine. Dumb, fox. If Amberstep hadn’t jumped out and distracted me I would have been ready. That was at least what the ginger tabby was telling herself. Deep down she knew that she couldn’t have been able to take that fox all on her own, but the rest of her was telling her that, yes, she would have been able to take down that stinky creature. Bored to death of staring at the ceiling in the healers’ den, Sagepaw finally rolled back to her paws. Stiffly she got to her paws, fluffing out her fur as if to hide her pain. Her tail lashed a few times as she steadied herself, amber eyes narrowing sharply. Finally, she felt at ease enough to start moving. Before she decided to make her get away, Sagepaw looked around to make sure no healer was there to see her. Satisfied that nobody was there, the tabby sprinted - more like limped - out of the den and into the fresh air of camp. Sagepaw took in a deep breath, relishing the fact that she was out of that damn healers’ den. Almost immediately her amber eyes caught sight of two tenderpaws - Darkpaw and Ravenpaw. The she-cat’s tail trembled with excitement at the sight of the two. Bounding over as best as she could, Sagepaw called out, ”Darkpaw! Ravenpaw!” Darkpaw was easier to get along with, but Sagepaw still liked to hang around with Ravenpaw even though he was a bit on the snappy side. Oh well, Sagepaw liked a challenge.

Gingerear gave a small mrrow of laughter at Honeyteller's moment about prey. "The protector in me is glad for those times, but the other half of me doesn't like the idea of wasted prey." Her words were light and mused, though they did hold truth. Gingerear wanted prey to prosper for the clan, but not too much. The thought of prey going to waste made the she-cat rather uncomfortable, and while it rarely happened, it was still possible. Gingerear was very minimal in her outlook on life, always taking just enough that was needed and never anymore. She knew that she could be a bit over the top about it, but she couldn't help it. It was always something she had lived by.
The ginger and white she-cat nodded to Honeyteller when she agreed. She settled herself down and twitched her whiskers. "Are you sure..?" She asked. Even though Honeyteller was her friend, she was still her leader above all. Gingerear felt that the she-cat was deserving of the utmost respect, no matter what the circumstance was.

It took a while for Amberstep to wake.
It was the morning, that was for sure, and the healer’s den was dark. No others were there, to her satisfaction, and although pain still roared through her body, she was thinking straight again. This only left the matter of how she would get out soon- hopefully out of camp so she could check the parts of the borders that no cat had been to in a few days.
She hissed softly as she got to her paws, nearly collapsing yet again but managing to stay strong. The Clan needed a healer that could tough through injuries to help them- and as she snuck out, that thought was paramount. It was her fate, her duty to the Clan and the Givers for her to do anything she could to assist. And then there was Honeyteller- the soft curl of warmth in her chest blossomed and a smile appeared on her face while she hid at the edges of camp, knowing how to properly conceal herself from the others.
Honeyteller was over there, with Gingerear- Amberstep nearly purred at the sight of her, content and ready to lead- but the dark ginger she-cat needed to leave. No others could stop her while she crept around the side of the camp, eyes alert for anyone. Icetail was near the entrance, and that was all she needed to worry about as she ignored the dying feeling on her sides, aches from her old scars and new wounds alike.
She could make it. Stalking past Icetail and out of the camp she went- and the only way she could be caught now was if Icetail caught her scent and went after her.
That wouldn’t happen. He looked too preoccupied with watching the camp. Right?

There was a part of Honeyteller that felt the same as Gingerear. If there was too much prey then some would possibly go to waste. Perhaps Honeyteller would speak to Icetail or Amberstep about telling their patrols to hunt only what is needed. Over hunting would ruin any chances of a heavy prey run for the seasons to come. That was something Honeyteller had to keep in mind the next time she had a chance to bring it up. When asking if she was sure, the omen-teller nodded in agreement. ”Of course. Go on,” she mewed, nodding once more. She was totally fine with Gingerear taking the first bite, or the first six bites if Gingerear wanted. Honeyteller was hungry enough for a bite or two and then she would be done for the morning. Honeyteller had never really been a big eater, but when it came to fish, well, that was a different story. The she-cat loved to eat fish when she had the chance.
- - -
Icetail wasn’t a good hunter like Cherrystorm. He wasn’t a good tracker like the ginger tomcat, either, but he sure could catch a scent that was near him and quite fresh. The white tomcat flicked his tail when a familiar scent - a scent that shouldn’t be near him right now - washed over him. Well, not wash over him, but he caught a whiff of it. Did any of the healers know about this? Of course not, or they would have already brought the refugee back to her temporary den. With a small grunt of half amusement, Icetail turned and stood to his paws. He cleared his throat loud enough for the culprit to hear. ”Amberstep.” He felt somewhat contradicting of himself. If he were in the she-cat’s paws then he would for sure be trying to get out of the healers’ den as fast as possible, but he knew if she went about and roamed as freely as she wanted then her wounds would only get worse. ”Care to explain to me why you’re outside?” His voice was firm yet level, a simple question that required a simple answer. Icetail would let Amberstep explain herself, but right after that he was going to bring her back to the healers’ den where she needed to stay.

When Honeyteller gave her the go ahead, Gingerear nodded and settled down beside the bird. While birds weren't necessarily her favorite piece of prey, she still liked the small avians. Squirrels were more her style. The thought of the musky taste of the small mammal brought a purr to her throat as she took a bite of the bird, rolling the feathers back onto the ground with her tongue. The ginger and white she-cat pushed the bird over to Honeyteller and swallowing, looked up at her. "Did you want to come hunting with me? You seemed interested when I mentioned it." The latter part of her statement was laced with amusement, an emotion that was sometimes hard to wriggle out from the normally serious she-cat.

There still wasn’t much hunger that Honeyteller was experiencing at the time. Breakfast had never been the she-cat’s favorite meal, and her body knew that. She was more of a supper kind of cat, always hungry after the events of the day had gone and went. That was typically when Honeyteller would sit down and tear into a meal. Even still, she would never pass up the chance to share a meal with her good friend. The mentioning of hunting made Honeyteller’s ears perk up. She felt the tip of her tail twitch. Hunting would prove to be interesting, and it would certainly keep her paws busy for the day. Prey would be out and about after the rains yesterday, especially birds. Now would be a good time to stock up on the winged creatures. ”I’d love to go hunting.” She wasn’t the best at hunting, never had been, but she did like to try it out every now and then. Her father had been an exceptional hunter when it came to mice, but he had been a healer before becoming omen-teller. Most of his skills had lay within the art of gathering herbs, but mice had to watch out for him. Though this conversation wasn’t about her father. Talk of her father could wait for another time.

With Honeyteller not taking the bird, Gingerear couldn't help but realize the she-cat wasn't hungry. She had been friends with her for a while, so one might think that Gingerear would know these things about Honeyteller, but it managed to slip her mind. Deciding not to mention anything, the larger sized she-cat kept on eating, only stopping once she asked her question. Perking up when Honeyteller agreed, Gingerear twitched her whiskers. "Great!" She purred, taking another small bite of the bird. "Just a few more bites and we can be on our way." The bird was small and wouldn't take long to eat, thankfully. Gingerear was ready to start her day and a hunt with her good friend would be the perfect way to do it.

After a few moments of letting Gingerear take what she wanted, Honeyteller leaned over and took a petite bite of the avian. Quickly the omen-teller had swallowed the bite, her pink tongue now running over her jaws and nose to get rid of any lingering meat pieces or feathers. The she-cat purred softly as the meat filled her small hunger. That was all she needed for the morning. Now she was more than ready to get going as long as Gingerear was. Getting to her paws, Honeyteller stretched out her body to prepare herself for a hunting trip. She waited for her friend to finish eating, but as she began the wait, Honeyteller caught sound of something happening near the exit of camp. The she-cat turned, amber eyes narrowing in questioning. Something was going on. As omen-teller, Honeyteller needed to know what was going on in her camp. The ginger and white she-cat motioned with her tail that Gingerear could follow her if she pleased as she began to head to the exit of camp where, unknowingly to her right now, Icetail and Amberstep were.

Amberstep froze when she heard Icetail clear his throat, claws sinking into the ground while she felt the advancing demise of her freedom. She turned to face him and frowned, a defensive posture quickly falling into place. “I’m not staying in there,” she sighed softly. “Come on. Just let me go. I’m perfectly fine and I can do my duties just as well as you.” She gave a little bit of a groan, though, when she realized that there really was no escape. “Please, Icetail? I know Honeyteller wouldn’t like me being out here-“ who knew that even the thought of her crushing disappointment could make her waver- “and you don’t like it either, but I need to. You understand, right? I’ll go crazy in there, even if I could organize patrols.”

Taking the last bite of the bird, Gingerear swiped her tongue over her muzzle. Giving herself a quick lick on the chest as well, the she-cat stood up and followed after Honeyteller, ears pricked at the thought of what prey she would find on this trip out of camp. It was new-leaf, and that always meant that there was an abundance of prey to be caught and enjoyed. At the thought, Gingerear gave a small purr before it was cut off by Honeyteller's sudden change of mood.
Blinking in confusion, Gingerear followed after the she-cat, neck fur slightly bristled in instinct. If something negative was happening in camp, she needed to be prepared. Taking in a small smell of the air, the ginger and white she-cat blinked in confusion. The scent tasted of Amberstep, but it was fresh. Surely the she-cat wasn't ready to be out of the healers den, yet?

Amber eyes narrowed. The white tom let out a slow sigh, shaking his head as he looked down for a quick moment. Icetail could very well understand what was going through Amberstep’s mind, he would be in the same position as her. But Icetail wasn’t in her position right now. At this moment he had to stay level-headed and keep her in the camp. If she went out and got even more injured then the Clan would be down one elite. That wasn’t something that the Clan needed right now. Another drawn out sigh came from the white tomcat. Once more he shook his head. ”Amberstep, I wish I could let you out, but I can’t. Walk around in camp, that I can allow, but going outside camp isn’t a choice for you.” He didn’t want to be a downer, but he wasn’t going to risk Amberstep’s safety. She was strong, but she was injured. An injured cat was a vulnerable cat out in these parts.
”Icetail, Amberstep,” Honeyteller mewed, dipping her head in greeting as she padded up to the two felines. Her ginger tail flicked slowly back and forth, amber eyes shifting back from Icetail to Amberstep every few seconds. ”Shouldn’t you be in the healers’ den?” Honeyteller asked as she looked over to Amberstep. For a second her features changed into something like worry as she looked Amberstep over. How was she doing? How was she feeling? If she was up and moving then surely she was feeling alright, but she couldn’t be allowed to go outside of camp - Honeyteller remembered that conversation with Mothlight and Mistwatcher just yesterday. For a second she felt bad that Gingerear was being brought into this, but situations like this had to be dealt with.

At the sound of Sagepaw's voice, Darkpaw turned around. "Sagepaw!" She exclaimed. Her gaze briefly traveled across the other she-cats form. After a run in with a fox, she would have expected more wounds on a tender-paw. "I'm glad you got out of there!" She continued on, a bit quieter than before. After all, she didn't want to be the one to get her den-mate in trouble for sneaking away from the den. "How are you? You look amazing for having a run in with fox!"
Ravenpaw glanced up when Sagepaw hurried over to them. At the sound of his name, his sides heaved in a sigh. Apparently, he hadn't retreated to the shadows fast enough not to be noticed. It always seemed Sagepaw caught him at the wrong moments. He grunted in response, tilting his head to observe her. Aside from Darkpaw, Sagepaw was probably one of the only other cats he could tolerate. Tolerate. Perhaps it was because she resembled Darkpaw in a way, and the two she-cats were friends. And, he was always grateful when another clan member could distract his littermate for even a few moments.
She mrrowed, batting at Sagepaw halfheartedly with a sheathed paw. "I wish you could come with us on the dawn patrol!" Or at least, she hoped they would be allowed to go on the dawn patrol. Casting a sly glance in Ravenpaw's direction, she continued in amusement. "And I am sure Ravenpaw would just looove if you could join us." She always teased the both of them about the relationship she had fantasized for the both of them. Sagepaw was good for Ravenpaw, she determined. And although she knew Ravenpaw most likely did not have feelings for the exuberant and head-strong she-cat, she always teased him relentlessly about it. And if she knew anything, Ravenpaw was starting to act a little more annoyed by these comments. Which was highly suspicious, as he tended to disregard such annoying comments or teasing.
Ravenpaw's head swung to face the both of them, and his ears flattened to the base of his neck. Hackles raising, he silently dared her to continue.

The sight of the dark pelted she-cat known as Darkpaw brought a purr against Sagepaw’s throat. Her slender tail quivered in excitement as she ran-limped toward the other she-cat. ”Hi, Darkpaw!” The young ginger tabby chirped, truly happy to see her friend. It felt like it had been ages since she had last seen the young tortoiseshell and her brother. Chest fur puffing out, Sagepaw tried her best to show off every little scratch she had gained from the fox; the worst wounds she made sure to show off even if they were mostly covered with poultices and cobwebs still. ”I’m glad I got out of there, too. That place is so boring,” she snorted, eyes rolling with disdain. ”I’m much better now that I’m out of there. What about you?” Sagepaw questioned, leaning forward to nudge Darkpaw with her head. After asking how Darkpaw was, Sagepaw turned her gaze to Ravenpaw. She smiled at the smoky black tom, chest puffing out even more as she eyed him. ”What? Pulling the silent treatment on me? Jealous of my new look?” Once again Sagepaw turned around to make sure Ravenpaw got a good look at the worst of her wounds despite being stiff and sore still. Maneuvering was a bit hard, and showing her wounds was hard as well considering where they were - right down her cheek to her shoulder and going along her haunches. When it came to the two siblings, Ravenpaw was always the hardest one to get to be fun. It was a challenge to Sagepaw to get him to open up and stop being such a thrill killer, but that’s what made it fun to hang around him. The young she-cat turned her attention back to Darkpaw when the tortoiseshell playfully batted at her ear. Sagepaw grumbled in amusement, reacting to her friend’s touch by lashing out and bobbing her on the head, but not without pain running down her shoulder blades. Without meaning to the tabby winced, hissing under her breath at the unwanted pain. The she-cat took a moment to recover and gain her breath back before replying to her friend. ”I’ll be able to go on patrols before you know it! In fact…” She looked to both Darkpaw and Ravenpaw, slipping in closer to the two to whisper, ”I had an idea.” Just then Darkpaw made the comment about Ravenpaw loving if Sagepaw could join. Even though she was used to such comments made by the other tenderpaw, Sagepaw felt her skin heat up for a second before she scoffed. ”Who wouldn’t love to go on patrol with me?” She rebounded with her feisty comment. A cat would have to be insane to not want to go on patrol with her, even Ravenpaw the grump himself.
