Even if he had ever admitted it to her, she meant a lot to him. She had meant a lot to him even when Mothlight had a mate. There had been a time when he had been jealous of Mothlight’s mate, the tomcat that had stolen her heart, but he had seen how happy he had made her, how many smiles he had put on her face. Icetail wouldn’t have compromised the healer’s happiness just because he was jealous, so he accepted Mothlight and her mate. He was proud for them when they had their daughter. He was proud to see that Mothlight had a growing family. While the tortoiseshell had been busy with her own life, Icetail had tended to his. He worked hard, did what he could, was named an elite, and was now reaching the point to where all of his ideas and plots were coming together. It was when Mothlight’s made had died when Icetail pulled back from his duties a bit and centered himself around the she-cat once more. And ever since then he had continued with his objective - to be there for Mothlight even if she would see him as nothing more than a close friend. Even cats who were bitter and snappish could have a soft side.
A flood of warmth rushed over Icetail when Mothlight pressed her nose against his cheek. Out of a split-second reaction the tom leaned forward and gave the female a soft lick between the ears. After realizing what had happened he stepped back a pace, skin warming up underneath his pelt. Quickly he licked at his chest fur before glancing back up to his companion. ”It’s no problem. Now go get some rest, you’ve earned it.”
