there's also the basic question: why did they need a freemasonry opera in the first place, and why did they not even put any effort into almost all of the characters hen every other Mozart opera out there has well layered, interesting characters how does it exist its like the florida of opera

Well, that was lucky. Still not fun, but it could have been so much worse. There is a lot of deer where I live so I've seen some pretty gritty accidents.

it took me a very long time to come up with Tamino's personality honestly he doesn't even have one in the opera, his personality is Hero Tenor(TM) and that's it now his personality is angry overachiever i think it's better yeah the Magic Flute is great live. As a kid it was what really got me into opera (that was probably mostly because of Papageno though lmao)

@redheartofriverclan - Omg, lol. Opera characters are so stereotypical, but I guess it was expected back then.So far, I love Tamino ^w^ He cracks me up. One of these days, I will see it, lol

I mean some opera characters (from Don Giovanni and Marriage of Figaro especially) were actually pretty huge in that they defied stereotypes for their time (the servants being better than their masters for example) but The Magic Flute...man is it something... i mean given Tamino basically is the Sun to Pamina's Moon. She is passive, quiet, melancholy, and sympathizes with others, so naturally Tamino is stubborn, easily angered, apathetic, and doesn't take crap from anyone. Of course, as things go on they begin to pick up traits from one another, but that's a while off from now so we don't have to worry about that just yet

@redheartofriverclan - Ohhh, ok. Having the charactes opposite extremes seems a bit risky, but I guess we are talking about Mozart here

prophet the entire Tamino and Pamina thing is kind of an opposites attract thing because Pamina needs to stop letting everyone lead her around whereas Tamino needs to cool his jets for once also because one of the overarching themes is that opposite views need to work differently but equally together for society to benefit- and of course, those political views are represented by the sun and the moon it's a better reason than "well because it HAS TO BE because they're a TENOR and a SOPRANO" even their designs purposely look opposite of one another

@riverheartofriverclan - I totally get that. The sun and moon have been used for that symbology since Confucius. Yin and Yang. Though it was originally to represent masculinity and femininity, respectively, and ironically that’s Tamino and Pamina XD I agree that it’s better than the usual tenor-soprano deal. What I’m trying to say, is that those themes are present for every story out there, and I’m not saying it’s good or bad. I personally think that most operas have storybook characters who are perfect for one another, or they’re opposite personalities. Where Tamino and Pamina come in is following the “opposite” mold, but more extreme (I realize this is partially thanks to you). When I say it’s risky, I say that because I’m thinking of the old days (of opera) and Mozart’s other operas

Sun and Moon in Ensemble represent the cats' two political ideals- the Sun is consistent and unwavering, so it represents a conservative opinion, the Moon is ever changing and so represents liberalism. In order for things to work well both sides must be able to cooperate and bounce ideas off of one another- this, however, has fallen out of favor with the feud between Sarastro and the Queen of the Night, which has basically thrown everything off course and everyone against one another as the two political extremes go at one another's throats. Balance is key is the main theme throughout everything- between Sun and Moon, Lion and Tiger (which again respectively represent Pamina and Tamino), Fire and Water, life and death, feline and feline. i think it's an important theme, especially now

@redheartofriverclan - That’s a really cool theme to play with. I think it’s definitely important right now, with all the controversy going on nonstop. Can’t trust media, can’t trust the internet. The battle between the two sides is good source material, because each side has their own arguments and beliefs, each thinking that themselves are right. With that in mind, you can really play with the reader, since that question will always be there: is the villain truly evil? Or, is the hero truly good? I always love a story that presents conflicts and shows a good argument for both sides, because the world isn’t black and white

It's also good because then it makes the villains have a reason- and of course there's villains on both sides of the spectrum. Because neither Tamino or Pamina are completely good- Tamino sometimes does more harm than good, and Pamina, well... I won't get into that to save spoilers. The characters aren't good bad, they're just there, but most of them deserve to be happy anyway even if they don't want to become protectors of the world or whatever. Most of the villains do have some sort of motive anyway- and it's a valid motive on its own, usually, but the villain is a villain because they took it too far. It kind of plays on the original Magic Flute's strong sense of people either being good or evil and there being no in between, because that isn't really how things work obviously. And of course, it lets me screw around with how characters are presented and who they really are in Ensemble- there isn't a single character that is presented as exactly who they are at first throughout the whole thing.

Oooh, I'm excited I'm really glad it won't be 'good' vs. 'evil' and that the characters show a faceted personality, unlike most stories.
It sounds like you have a good grasp on what you're doing and where this story is going, which I think is really awesome and organizational of you XD Btw, I wasn't lying when you said you inspired me to drudge up an old story from when I was 12 or 13. Unfortunately, I don't have the printed version anywhere, but I do remember it quite clearly
