yeah the switches between comedy and drama are...jarring at times, so I blend the line to make things more consistent and somewhat darker. Also it gives a bit more character depth, and of course I'm a sucker for that. It's why the comic relief characters become more serious than they are in the operas- I'm simply trying to blend the lines and make things a bit grittier. That sounds much cleaner and less all over the place as operas can tend to be XD I like darker themes, too. They make a rounder experience, and personally, I just hate the feel-good, sap fest in almost all stories :3 Making it one cohesive piece is probably challenging, but definitely worth it for the reader (me) and probably you as well
Sapfest stories don't really tend to work for me either so I try to implement actual consequences on things. There's never really a good ending to anything unlike in those feel good stories; there's just endings that people are content with. you can see how I darken things already: in the original Magic Flute the padlock punishment thing was kind of a quick visual gag, in Ensemble it becomes disturbing with the drill and everything. Leporello in the opera was the cowardly sidekick of the Don, who was mostly played for comedy despite having a few serious moments here and there- in my version he's a depressing cynic trapped in an obsession over the Don. It makes things more interesting and layered, I think

I remember on the old forums the longest thread I had was thirty pages. That was an rp thread, though. I'm surprised it went for that long, it had about four of us and it then dwindled down to me and one other person. Do any of these names ring a bell? Fuzzytail13 Gingerheart343 Stormlynx
On the old forums, I created tons of threads, and I don't think any of them lasted for a long time. Maybe until about 20 or 30. I tried to make a den before, and it only made about one page lol. I'm not sure. They look vaguely familiar. Maybe I saw them in the games or something. I had been gone for a year prior to the end of the forums, because they updated and deleted everything I once had, so I had no motivation anymore, but I decided to show up again for a few months (then it died, lol). I saw Tomo was co-creating these new forums, so I decided to leap over

@redheartofriverclan - Yeah, a good ending doesn't necessarily mean a happy ending. I love a story that ends with a character's death, or they turn villain, or something. I loved how you made that lock scene gruesome, because I honestly that you were gonna pull a gag. The lead up gave off that feeling—Papageno crying for mercy especially. Then I see that he has an actual lock drilled in his mouth, and I'm like, Holy StarClan. I would love to see a Leporello like that, because he could be such an interesting character. I remember wishing he had a bigger role in the Don's ending. It was like he disappeared! All he did was be there

the padlock also is a good character moment for the three ladies: they look nice, and their intentions seem noble, but there's something not quite right about them... yeah my Leporello is pretty different from the opera's- for one, where in the opera Leporello and the Don kind of played off as swapping the roles of buffoon and the straight man, Ensemble!Leporello is very clearly the straight man to Don Giovanni's madness. (This also makes him quieter and more reserved as a result) Also, Leporello's relationship with the Don is amped up a bit- it becomes pretty clear in Ensemble that Leporello was/still is in love with the Don, which of course makes every situation worse for the servant. The Don, being the Don, has figured out this little useful bit of information, and uses it to his gleeful will to manipulate Leporello into following his every whim. i honestly wish more people paid attention to Leporello because I find his role in the opera kind of fascinating- after all, you hear more about the Don from him than from the Don himself, and Leporello is the only character that accompanies the Don (besides the Commander, of course) in every version of the Don Juan legend since the very first one in 1616

@redheartofriverclan - It made three seemingly-goofy characters (with them wearing their feathers and how they speak about Tiger) into slightly these mad, vaguely homicidal, mostly sadistic creatures. I like the idea of Leporello being obsessed with the Don, because it makes sooo much sense. He knows everything about the Don, he follows him when he doesn't have to, goes to extreme lengths for him... It'll be interesting to see where their story goes~

honestly I love the concept of peppy happy characters that are actually sadists, I just find it fascinating (and incredibly fun to write). The Three Ladies are deeply loyal to their Queen and can't tolerate anything they perceive as lying- be it actual lying, or telling the truth... the idea of Leporello being in love with the Don for me was honestly one of those things that you can kind of see the first time you see it but upon several times going through it you begin to realize that it makes perfect sense. I mean why else would Leporello plead for his master to live and constantly go the extra mile for him when he's spent a good deal of his time complaining about the Don's various schemes and/or almost getting killed for said schemes mao

@redheartofriverclan - Me too. It makes them a little unstable, those you should watch out for.
Leporello is totally dedicated to the Don, lol. The way he's teeated, you'd think he hated the Don! And when he has to cover the Don's butt? I got to where you introduce him in the comic, and omg he's reaaaally touchy. Totally calm, quiet, then ask about his master and BAM! he's angry and possibly violent, lol. I like how it's not clear if the Don's actually dead, even if it says he's dead (not asking for spoilers) in the cast section (and I know he's dead from the opera). I'm interested in seeing more of Leporello, of course, and I'm definitely going to read some more~

I was just interested bc they were some of my old forum friends who I didn't know if they migrated or not. I'm kinda glad for these new forums, though, bc I was called iluvanimals456 on the old forums and really wanted to change my name (but there was that whole stupid process) so it was good coming here and getting to call myself Thunderfire.

EthanTheAnnus - I never had one OC for very long. For the last year of the WCF, I didn't even rp, I just played forum games and made different threads. I'm a little flaky, so I avoid rps that seem like they ask for active members ;u;

Please save them from death: Leporello's still pretty emotionally wrecked from having to watch the Don's death, of course, so he becomes rather volatile in Ensemble at times because the whole thing (which of course becomes even more gruesome in Ensemble because that's the kind of thing I like to do) was basically burned into the back of his retinas. He sometimes wonders if the Don got the better part of the bargain there. honestly I find Leporello one of the more interesting characters because he's so full of contradictions The Don is not alive. But he isn't quite dead either...

The Don is one of few cats in Ensemble whose backstory is never fully explained- he's one of the characters I want readers to draw their own conclusions to, because just as in the opera every character gives off more information about the Don than the Don does himself. Besides, I feel that if I really said anything I'd ruin that air of mystery he has. The only thing that's clear is what exactly he does- and for the relief of everyone the Don is explicitly not a hero (unlike how he was interpreted in the 19th century) because that idea's gross and full of bad implications to me

@redheartofriverclan - Really? Mystery does add a certain appeal. Yeah, I'm well aware of his "heroic deeds" Thank the stars that it's not that way anymore (although the ties to modern culture is evident).

Those three won't show up for a while. I haven't gotten to them either and I'm the one drawing everything honestly the only reason the flute can talk to Tamino now (if you believe she's real anyway and not a dream) was because all of Tamino's other mentor-like characters that show up were lacking in either the advice or the comforting department (for the most part) and given I needed someone to teach Tamino more things, the flute/Tigrissa came into play. Again, if you believe she's real and not a bizarre dream of Tamino's, because throughout Ensemble there will be enough evidence to support both ways

If she's real, she could be a vital piece to Tamino's journey. A character needs a good advisor.... if a talking flute that is possibly a dream counts x3
