Good to see ya @redheartofriverclan I recently saw another opera, but they didn't do a very good job with it so I can't even remember what it was, lol the last one I saw was The Magic Flute back in January (I've seen it a few times). Good old fashioned nostalgic Masonic propaganda. one of the funny things about it is that it's advertised as family friendly, so people try to bring their 5 year old kids to the opera. The resulting scene of either the kid or the parents figuring out The Magic Flute is not exactly as family friendly as it's made out to be is fairly entertaining

The resulting scene of either the kid or the parents figuring out The Magic Flute is not exactly as family friendly as it's made out to be is fairly entertaining I missed The Magic Flute, unfortunately. Whenever I go, I go as a "chaperone" for the kids in my old high school choir. They don't go, I don't go, lol. The one I saw was last fallThe Magic Flute is always shown here around Christmas, so it was in January. It was freezing outside at the time Our very bizarre elementary school had a choir, and honest to god I only joined to go on the field trip because they said we were seeing the magic flute. They weren't wrong; however it was The Magic Flute But "For Kids" And Condensed Down to 45 Minutes And Lacks All The Good Parts And They're Trying To Be Hip and Cool And It Has A Budget of 5$ At Some Random Local High School. And then they forgot our buses so we had to sit in the theater for like another hour afterward anyway. After the field trip happened I realized it sucked and so I left choir. Even to this day I have to explain to people that the actual real deal is Not Like That Year after that it was The Barber Of Seville as the "for kids" 45 minute opera thing. I never went, but I figured how bad it was simply by reading over the program. Also the fact that they chose Barber Of Seville is problematic given that while it on its own is usually ok for kids, kids always want to know what happens next, and so they look it up and are introduced to the sequels, which are... well, they're something,

WOW. That's all I can say. I would hate that, honestly. It's like reading a bad, annotated Shakespeare or something. I can't imagine even trying to see a "for kids" version of anything, lol. I really want to see The Barber of Seville, because I loved Marriage of Figaro. It's actually playing this fall but I can't go because the choir I go with will be too busy to attend It's too expensive to go as an actual adult, lol

They're both really long though, especially the second one (which is basically a play by play of the entire pamphlet they gave us upon watching it). (it's basically the 4Kids dub of it now that I think about it) The Barber Of Seville is great, especially if you see it knowing what happens in Marriage- there's a whole aria where Figaro's mother is talking about how dumb men that try to marry younger women are and it becomes hilarious given what she tries to do in the sequel. It's very strange seeing the Count actually not be a jerk to everyone though, because you get used to seeing him as the selfish betrayer he is in literally everything else he appears in. honestly if there was a decent opera company with lower ticket prices it would be great. but at least we have YouTube and dvds and such even though it's not really the same

That's like saying the Soprano is not the lead, lol. I really wish opera could be available to us paupers, but the expense is totally worth it in the end. Seeing it live is really the only way to get the true experience. I had an opera CD with the song from Rigoletto, La Donna e Mobile, and listening was all about remembering the opera XD

@redheartofriverclan Ok, I read them, and I officially hate cartoon-adaptions of opera XD When I was a kid, I saw a lot of movies like that, where it was a fairytale-turned-cartoon deal, and those could be good. But I started watching a little of the horror they named The Magic Flute, and I just skipped around because I didn't want to actually watch it, and MAN. I also read your commentary XD Yeah, no way in the Underworld am I going to watch that fox-dung

yeah it's trash. I have never seen a good animated Magic Flute adaption to be honest, which is saying something given there are quite a few out there poor Papageno always gets the worst end of the stick when it comes to animated adaptions, even though he's pretty much the only reason anyone likes the magic flute besides the music lmao but yeah that trip was why I pulled myself deep into the idea of "adapting opera but with cats". I was doing it before then but that was the moment I decided I'd take it seriously. It was pure spite, and years later somehow I'm still going at it

@battlingfear - True, lol. I hope to someday go to French III or have a chance to speak it with someone (typing it on the forums with some people is not the same; I have online dictionaries to help if I'm not sure). Flashcards are a great way, but I'm too lazy to actually make them, haha. I should do that sometime
