Hollowpaw set to work on burying the water vole, and took a step back once she was finished. She scented the air again and turned her head, catching the scent of another water vole a bit further down the bank of the stream. She quickly dropped into her crouch and started stalking after it, making sure to stay upwind of her prey. Completely focused on her hunt, Hollowpaw hadn’t noticed how close to the water bank she had gotten. She paused again as she neared the vole, listening to its movements.
Hollowpaw pounced after the vole as it scrambled over some rocks and missed by a whisker. Letting out a hiss of frustration, she quickly tried to correct herself, but felt her paws slipping out from underneath her. Hollowpaw yelped as she fell into the stream, shocked from the sudden cold of the water and flailed as she tried to get back to her paws. Fear jolted through the blind apprentice when she couldn’t find any solid ground, and struggled to keep her head above the water. “H-help!” She gasped, coughing as some water got in her mouth.

“Hollowpaw!” Frostmoon gasped quickly, rushing into a run towards the stream. Scarletpaw was even faster, forgetting her own catch in turn of rushing towards the bank where Hollowpaw had fallen in, her voice high and panicked as she called for her friend.
Scarletpaw was just as ill-suited at swimming, and so her attempt to wade out to her were mediocre at best. Frostmoon quickly hissed for the apprentice to stay on the bank, as she lunged into the stream to help Hollowpaw up. Inwardly, she cursed at herself for bringing them out here. She should have considered this could happen!

Hollowpaw struggled to keep her head up, gasping as she felt her head suddenly go under and swallowed a large mouthful of the water. She sputtered and coughed when she came back up, trying to get her breath back again. She could barely hear Frostmoon or Scarletpaw over the sound of her own frantic heartbeat and flailing.

Willowsong's ears perked as she heard a scream of help, she frowned, calling Dawnpaw to her. "Something's wrong, leave the mouse Dawnpaw, let's go." she mewed urgently. Already running toward the yowling and splashing.
Stumppaw opened her mouth to speak only to be interrupted by far away yowling. "Did you hear that?" she asked, looking spooked.

Ghostscreech had turned his head at the sound of the yowling and frowned, “Yes. I did. Come on, let’s go check on the others.” He said, standing and heading towards the commotion at a brisk pace. Seems like this training session was going to be eventful as well.

Frostmoon quickly pushed herself towards Hollowpaw, reaching out to bury her jaws into the apprentice’s scruff. With all the strength she could muster, she started pulling the apprentice towards the shallower section of the bank. She called around Hollowpaw’s fur in her mouth. “Relax! It’s okay! I’ve got you!”
Scarletpaw rushed out as far as she could go, the water flowing at her belly as she cried out. “Hollowpaw! Hold on! I-it’s not that deep, you’re flailing too much!”
Dawnpaw quickly abandoned the mouse to rush after Willowsong, ears flattening as he swore he heard Hollowpaw just now.

Stumppaw raced after Ghostscreech, the young apprentice’s heart pounding as she thought of all the possible things that could have happened to her clanmates.
Willowsong skidded to a halt as she reached the bank of the river, gasping as she saw Frostmoon, Scarletpaw and Hollowpaw in the water. “Don’t you dare jump in too.” She said uncharacteristically sharp, looking at Dawnpaw. Willowsong waded a few tail-lengths into the water, “Frostmoon, try to come to me. I’ll help pull you in.”

Frostmoon glanced at up where Willowsong was, not taking a second to hesitate against the older she-cat’s offer. She began swimming towards Willowsong, breath coming in rough grunts as she held Hollowpaw’s head above the water as much as she could.
Scarletpaw gasped quickly. “Please, get her out!”

Hollowpaw jerked once in surprise when she felt Frostmoon grab her scruff before going limp and letting the warrior guide her back to shallows of the stream. She coughed up more stream water and took deep gasping breaths as she tried to regain some sense of where she was.
Ghostscreech hurried towards the stream and came to a stop not far from Willowsong and the others. “Is anyone hurt?” He asked, eyes taking in the situation. He moved to the water bank, wading in a bit to help if it was needed.

“I don’t think so! But Hollowpaw fell in on accident!” Scarletpaw called back quickly, not wanting her to be scolded for it. “She was hunting super well, but I think she slipped on the last lunge! It was an accident!” She urged, looking at the deputy with fierce yet worried eyes.
Frostmoon couldn’t meet the deputy’s eyes, opting to push down her guilt by making her way closer and closer to Willowsong.

Willowsong leaned as far as she could into the water without letting her paws leave the slippery bottom of the river. The currant lapping at her belly fur. She grabbed a hold of Hollowpaw, using all of her strength to try and pull both the apprentice and the other she-cat toward the shallow water.
Stumppaw watched, eyes wide. She had never been in the river before, she scampered over to Scarletpaw. "Was she in there for long?" she asked quietly.

Frostmoon allowed Willowsong to assist, and they soon could pull onto their paws on the bank below them. Frostmoon breathed deeply, nodding lightly. “Thank you… Hollowpaw, are you alright?”
Scarletpaw gave a breath of relief as Hollowpaw was brought in, though she addressed Stumppaw with a small snort. “Of course not! I ran over the second she fell in!… She’s my friend, after all. I just… can’t swim well…” She murmured.

“Yes, I’m sure it was just an accident.” Ghostscreech reassured Scarletpaw, motioning for her to get out of the water. He stood not far behind Willowsong, ready to move and help them bring Hollowpaw back to shore if they needed it.
Hollowpaw finally felt ground beneath her paws and tried to scramble back up, her paws slipping on the rocks as she finally regained her footing. The apprentice was still coughing up the last bit of water from her lungs and was shivering from the cold water and air.

Willowsong tried to help guide Hollowpaw back to the bank of the River, ready to help pull her up if needed. Her breaths came quick as she tried to slow down her heart rate and calm down
Stumppaw flattened her ears, “I didn’t mean it like that. I just wanted to know if you and Frostmoon were close by when it happened.”

Scarletpaw fluffed up her fur, but seemed to calm down, giving Stumppaw a light look. “Yeah, I know. Hmph… Sorry. I didn’t mean to snap, Stumppaw. It… yeah, we were close.” She looked back at Hollowpaw, wanting to run to her, but knowing the Warriors were surrounding her.

Hollowpaw scrambled up onto the river bank, her wet fur plastered to her body and her flanks heaving. “Th-thank you.” She rasped to the warriors in between coughing fits. Her entire body was shaking as she crawled away from the edge of the bank, wanting to never be near another stream again after that experience. It had been terrifying not having solid ground under her paws, and she wasn’t eager to feel that ever again. Embarrassment rushed through as once again, something she had done had disrupted the training session for everyone. Hollowpaw flattened her ears against her head, wishing she could just disappear already.
Ghostscreech looked over at Frostmoon to see if she needed any help getting out of the water, a worried look in his eyes for a brief moment, “Are you alright?” He asked her quietly, moving to stand next to her.

Willowsong scrambled up the bank, shaking out her wet fur. She looked away as Ghostscreech murmured softly to Frostmoon. Hurt coursing through her.

“It’s okay. That catch was great!” Scarletpaw quickly pushed through the Warriors as she pressed close to her friend. “Don’t even worry about it. We’ll get back to camp and warm up and finally get some sleep.” She promised, trying to console Hollowpaw’s embarrassment before she scowled sharply at Dawnpaw, Patchpaw, and Stumppaw. “And we’re not going to bring it up in the apprentice’s den or I’ll split all your whiskers until you have none left.” She snapped pointedly.
“I won’t.” Dawnpaw promised, worry in his eyes for Hollowpaw, glad she was okay.
Frostmoon looked at the deputy for a second, before her eyes fleeted to the side and she mewed evenly, steadying herself. “It was my fault. I was careless in picking a hunting location, and I turned my back for too long. Hollowpaw hunted brilliantly, but I should have kept her away from the bank. I…” She swallowed, swamped with guilt and defeat. “I don’t think I can continue my part of guiding the session. I should get Hollowpaw back to camp.” She admitted.

Ghostscreech jumped back up onto the bank, looking back at Frostmoon to make sure she didn’t need help getting back up, “It’s alright. I think we’ve all had enough for one day. Let’s gather up the prey we’ve caught and head back to camp.” He suggested to Willowsong, looking back at the other warrior.
“I just.. want to go home.” Hollowpaw muttered miserably, trying to stop herself from shivering. She pressed against Scarletpaw when she felt her friends familiar presence, grateful for her warmth.

Patchpaw watched with wide eyes. What in starclan? Could the apprentice not hear the bank that close to her.
Silentflare appeared a few moments after Hollowpaw was pulled from the river. “What’s going on?” He demanded. “Are you ok?” He asked his apprentice.

Ghostscreech looked up in surprise at Silentflare’s sudden appearance and turned to face the older warrior, “Hollowpaw fell in on accident. We were just about to head back and take her back to camp.” He said.
“I’m fine.” Hollowpaw said, breaking out into another coughing fit. Her throat was sore from all of the water and coughing already, and she couldn’t seem to get warm even with Scarletpaw pressed against her. “Can we just go already?” She rasped, getting to her paws shakily.

Frostmoon nearly bristled with guilt, imagining how distraught she’d be if it had been Patchpaw in the stream just now. She quickly padded past the deputy and Warrior, not able to look at anyone.
Scarletpaw pressed protectively to Hollowpaw, mewing evenly. “Yeah. I think we should go. All this crowding isn’t gonna help! Move it!” She snapped, not caring if she was speaking to older Warriors with such a sharp tone.
