synopsis In the frozen tundra there are four cats who are dancing on thin ice, whether they know it or not. And whenever a horrendous decision is made they all pay the price.
Fera was never known for her grace. She struggled to even walk straight and make her eyes focus, much less be able to survive on her own. She was born with Cerebellar Hypoplasia and it's ruining her life and her relationships in horrible ways that can't be fixed.
Dustin was born to serve. He had a purpose, a mission assigned to him by his mother. He had to take care of his sister. He never questioned it, but one day everything changed.
Juno was an outsider. She had always wanted a friend but was never bold enough to interact with anyone, and one day she found someone. She decided to do the unthinkable.
Andy was always keeping his calm. He never got impatient or agitated with anyone, not even his best friend. He would never hurt anyone, especially her. But one day he snapped.
The four struggle to do right but end up doing otherwise. Their tale is not a pretty one and they make certain decisions while forgetting that it's easy to freeze.

information on cerebellar hypoplasia Also known as โWobbly Cat Syndromeโ it is a neurological illness that affects a catโs coordination and motor skills. It is caused by underdevelopment in the cerebellum or trauma while in the womb. The most common factor of this happening is when the mother contracts Feline Panleukopenia Virus while pregnant. A cat with this illness will also experience head tremors where they will swing their head around trying to focus their eyes. This condition cannot worsen and cats with it still have a normal life expectancy.

prologue Eva sat on the edge of a starlight pool, looking down into it with a loving expression, reflected in it was two cats, a tortoiseshell she-cat thatโs pelt was lighter than herโs and a light brown tom, both had the same medium length fur and light green eyes as Eva. The pool was a light blue colored on where the image didnโt show, the water calm.
A long furred brown tabby she-cat approached the starlight pool and the image changed to show another long furred she-cat, this one night black with golden amber eyes, matching the tabbyโs. The water turned dark around the edges and began to churn. Eva looked up at the tabby, her tortoiseshell fur fluffing up to look longer than it was, her face clouded with a troubled expression, โJennelle.โ
The tabby, Jennelle, nodded her head, โhello Eva. Itโs been a while, sorry to appear on these terms. I fear a storm is coming and our kits are right in the middle of it and there is nothing we can do about it.โ
โI know; doesnโt make it any less horrendous and tragic,โ she replied. โI just wish I could warn them, send them a message.โ
โThat would not be wise, you know the rules,โ said a long furred black tom who came padding towards them, his vivid blue eyes piercing them with a pointed look.
โHero,โ Jennelle nodded at the tom.
โIโm aware of the rules, doesnโt mean I like them, and i doesnโt mean Iโll follow them.โ Eva's tone was harsh.
โDonโt-โ Jennelle started but got cut off.
โI know the risks, and Iโm willing to pay the price, itโs our kits, I canโt just stand by and do nothing, I have to do something.โ She almost snapped it at the other she-cat.
โPlease, donโt,โ Jennelle began to beg.
โDonโt waist your breath,โ came Hero. โSheโs made up her mind, you cannot stop her.โ
Jennelle looked from Eva, who had distress and determination and defiance written all over her face, to Heroโs blank stare with a concerned expression.
Hero turned to Eva, โdo as you please, Iโm not going to stop you because I know you better than that, but I wonโt support you either.โ
Eva nodded, โthank you, old friend.โ
Jennelle looked back down at the starlight pool, where there was now an image of a long-furred black and white tom, his eyes a spitting image of Heroโs.
โIโm sorry,โ whispered Jennelle.
โWe all are,โ came Hero, his voice flat.
Eva put her paw in the water and the image changed back to the two cats who had the same light green eyes. โHello my babies, Iโm coming for you,โ she whispered, and then she walked into the water until she disappeared.

chapter I The snow was coming down hard on the mid-winter night, the sky a dark-gray and black haze that could barely be seen through the white powder. Fera was crouched down in the large cave that was at the base of the mountain, watching as inches of snow piled up. Her brother, Dustin, suddenly appeared at the entrance, his light brown fur tangled with clumps of snow, his light green eyes sparkling with amusement. โWe got a wild one tonight,โ he said and Fera nodded her head in agreement. โLooks like we might be snowed in for a bit.โ โYes,โ she agreed. โWhereโs Andy?โ โDonโt know, he should be back soon though.โ After looking at the worried expression on his sisterโs face added, โdonโt worry, heโll be fine, he can handle himself.โ โI know,โ she replied. โDoesnโt stop me from worrying.โ She shook her head in a twitchy gesture before curling up into a ball and closing her eyes, signaling she was done with the conversation. โ

Juno watched the long-furred black and white tom from above. He wasnโt the one she was interested in, but he was nice and patient, kind really from what she gathered of watching the three cats that lived in this frozen wasteland. He was trekking through the snow, his head hunched down into his shoulders to shield his eyes from the wind and snow. He was headed towards the cave the three called home. She wished she had a place to call home. She took a deep breath and thought to herself, this is the day, the day I change that. Then she began to run towards him, โhello? Hello? You there!โ Andy turned towards her, shock in his vivid blue eyes to see this long-furred she-cat whose pelt was a stark contrast against the snow. โWho may you be?โ His inquiry was polite, if not a bit skeptical on why there was a strange cat in his territory. โIโm Juno,โ she let out between heavy breaths. โI'm just passing through.โ โOh, dear,โ came Andy. โWell you mustn't stay out here in this storm, youโll catch your death, come with me, my friends and I Have a cave we live in not far from here, Iโm sure they shanโt mind if you stay with us until its raging dies down.โ Juno smiled at him, โthank you for being so kind.โ โOh! Pardon me, I forgot to introduce myself, Iโm Andy.โ He seemed almost embarrassed at his own forgetfulness. โNice to meet you, Andy.โ She dipped her head at him in gratitude. โCome along, dear, we need to hurry before we freeze.โ He then began to run towards the cave entrance and Juno followed.

Dustin startled awake at the sound of voices within the cave, there was Andyโs voice but another one as well, unfamiliar and feminine. He blinked the sleet out of his eyes, and got up stretching. He followed the sound of the voices towards the back of the cave where Andy seemed to be explaining about Feraโs illness. At least thatโs what they called it, but it was more so an impairment than anything. โHello?โ he said, as he rounded the corner to see Andyโs familiar black and white fur and a night black she-cat as well. โWho may you be?โ The she-cat turned to face him, her golden amber eyes dancing, โIโm Juno.โ She dipped her head in a greeting, โpleased to meet you, I assume you are Dustin, sorry if we woke you, we were trying to be quiet.โ He looked from her to Andy, a quisitive expression on his face, Andy started to explain, โI met her on the tundra, she would have caught her death out there, so I invited her to come with me to our humble, little cave.โ He gave a light-hearted apologetic look to Dustin and added, โhope you donโt mind.โ Dustin returned the light-hearted expression, โitโs no big deal, she can stay.โ He turned to her, โwelcome Juno, please, stay as long as you like.โ Juno purred with a timid happiness, โthank you, your hospitality is welcomed.โ โOf course,โ Dustin replied, dipping his head slightly. Andy then piped up and asked, โyou never did tell me what you were doing here on the tundra, may I know?โ Juno let out a laughing pur, โIโm just passing through, heading south to visit my mother, I come from further north, along the sea border, my mother moved south a while back but I stayed there. Mainly because I didnโt want to leave the familiarity of my home, but I decided it was time to let it go and move on.โ โThatโs sweet,โ came Fera, padding towards them, her eyes unfocused and moving in a rapid motion, unable to stay steady which in turn made her stride uncoordinated. โThat you care about your mother enough to leave.โ
Juno smiled, โyes, yes it is.โ โ
- - - - - โ
Andy let out a deep breath as he curled up into his nest, he had, as well as the others, given some of the feathers and moss to Juno to help make her comfortable. He watched her with lazy eyes, she gave him a friendly look, almost like a smile - if cats could smile. He returned it, before closing his eyes and entering sleep. He walked through the tundra, it was a unusually warm day, the sun hot on his dark back, making him wish he didnโt have long fur. The birds sand a song from the few trees that sat at the base of the mountain, in the distance he could hear the sound of the wolves howling, singing their song that his father loved dearly.
He padded along the worn path that had been made from many years of walking. Once he reached the stream, he stopped for a drink. He was about to lick the water surface, when the face of a seemingly familiar cat appeared reflected in the water where his reflection should be. He scrambled back and the cat that was reflected climbed out of the water, her pelt strangely dry.
He let out a cry of horror as the dark tortoiseshell she-cat with eyes all too familiar to him. Feraโs eyes. Dustinโs eyes.
โWho are you?โ He let out, his breath ragged with fear.
โThat does not matter,โ she replied, flicking her long furred tail back and forth. โWhat matters is the message I have for you.โ
โOh?โ He said.
โWhatever you do, donโt trust Juno, she is bad news,โ she said it in a rush.
โWho are you? How do I know I can trust you?โ He said it with a slight defensiveness, he liked Juno.
โI cannot say who I am, but I promise you, Juno is bad news.โ she looked at him, light green eyes burning intensely, as if she could will him to understand with sheer looks alone.
Andy shook his head, as if doing so could make her go away.
When he looked back up she was gone, leaving him in shock that it worked. -- โ

Good. Swamped in chapters, homework, and reading. Hmm... maybe not so great on second thought.
