Yeah so I'm kinda back in my game-making mood and I figured I may as well bring this project back. It was mentioned on the old forums with a minimal amount of interest but I honestly feel as though my chances of getting real interest and possible collaboration are better on here than there.
I've always thought it would be super cool to have some kind of Warriors game, and I've passively worked on some but none that have ever gotten that far, either because I hit a wall or just got bored with the idea, or moved on to a different interest and forgot about it. But I'm yet again feeling hopeful that, if I can get some interest and possibly help, maybe I can actually finish a project.
That said, I have three ideas for the type of game it could be.
The first would be pretty simple, and mostly text-based. It would involve passively directing the cats and events in a Clan of your own make, not having an avatar of your own but instead mildly controlling the Clan as a whole. Time would pass and events would happen which might benefit or harm the Clan, and which you would have to have your cats respond to. Cats would be born, grow up, grow old, and die, and you would shape the generations of your Clan.
The second is a bit less dynamic than the first, but probably more interactive. It would be a more straightforward adventure type game, with a plot and possibly side quests, where you create and control your own character and play through the story of the Clan(s). As I'm a huge fan of allowing players to experience whichever Clan they want, this idea could really go a couple ways. Either there could be four shorter and separate plotlines, with each Clan essentially getting its own smaller game, or the overall plot which would be the same across all Clans, but witnessed from different perspectives based on the Clan you choose. Obviously, characters, objectives, and major events would be the same each time you played the game, unlike in my third idea.
The third and last idea is a bit of a hybrid between the first two, and would likely be the most complex to make. In this, there is no set overarching storyline but instead minor events which will either happen randomly or cause/result from previous events, leading to a different story each playthrough of the game. Characters in the Clans would be randomized at the beginning of the game, and their personalities, actions, and speech would be put together using different templates and fragments into a cohesive whole, rather than being entirely pre-scripted like in idea 2. In this idea, you would play through an entirely dynamic Clan that would be different on each playthrough, and could make your cat's story however you wanted. And when your cat's life is over, you can start a new game, or pick a newborn kit in the same game and continue the same storyline. Kind of like a Sims for cats, minus the building. The upside to this is that it could be the most dynamic and ever-changing version of the game. The downside is is that it would be a bit of a wild card: more difficult to make, and possibly not always functional. Events may not always make sense and it may not always be interesting.
Any thoughts on those ideas would be quite welcome.
As mentioned before, I would also be interested in collaborating with others to make this game. It would get a bit hectic to have multiple people actually putting the game itself together, so I'll handle that for the most part; however, art, music, story, and other such things I would love to get help for. Let me know if you're interested and we can talk more about the exact style of the game and how the program I'm using functions in regard to sprites and the like.
Even if you're not interested in helping out, any thoughts or support would be quite welcome. Interest fuels me, and I will remain interested in the project so long as others do as well. Thanks for reading! Any thoughts?
