BrownieJellyfish prompt:
I smiled at her, she smiled back.
I opened the door to my room and waited for the exclamation of surprise. All of my friends upon seeing my room for the first time did.
She didn't give one, she just furrowed her eyebrows, lines appearing on her forehead.
"Wait, is that a jellyfish in your room?"
I laughed, "yes."
"Oh."
"I know its weird, hahah, having a wall that's nothing but a large tank with jellyfish in it, but its there for a reason." I said it quickly, a loose smile on my face as I spoke.
"Reason?" She replied.
"Yea, its an interesting story if you want to hear it," I said as I walked into the room and sat down on my bed, beckoning her to follow.
She sat on the bed. "Please do."
So you know about..." I trailed off, unable to say his name. "M-my br-broth-er, ri-right?"
She nodded her head yes.
I took a deep breathe and continued, "well he was a marine biologist, he studied them, and whenever he - well, you know - he said one last thing to me. "Don't let them meet the same fate."
She raised an eyebrow, "can't they still die though?"
"They can be killed," I commended, "but because of the way they go through their phases they're practically immortal, that's what he was studying, trying to figure out their true life span and see what caused it to be so in hopes of achieving it for humans." I looked at her and she had that look on her face, the 'your brother was insane' look. Quickly I added, "silly, I know, but still cool just the same."
Her face relaxed and she nodded and smiled at me.
I smiled back, "I plan to get my degree and continue his work, I feel that's what he'd want me to do."
She smiled again, "that's a nice thought, but shouldn't you do what you want to do, not what he'd want you to do?"
"That's the thing," I said. "I want to do this."
"Okay, as long as you're happy doing it."
