"You could say that," Eamon agreed, sounding resigned and, once again, a little frustrated. Knowing that the man would likely pick up on it, he elaborated. "She doesn't really have much of a choice, and I don't either. She's from Earth. Kind of difficult for her to leave, don't you think?" He closed his eyes for a moment, swallowing the fresh wave of frustration that was surfacing at having to go through it again. He sighed, opening his eyes wide again.

Eamon inclined his head, gesturing to Phallon as if to back her answer. "There it is," he said. "As for whether or not I have a knack for it, I don't exactly think two counts as a pattern. But if that's what you want to call it, I guess I can't stop you." He shrugged. Seemingly, he didn't really care much either way.

Eamon was about to contradict her when he realised what she meant. He frowned but nodded. "Yes, of course. Wouldn't want to keep him waiting. It was good to see you again, have a nice day." If the man knew Joachim well enough to protest that he would never get impatient with them, he didn't want to stick around to hear it. If Phallon was uncomfortable, he trusted she had a good reason. He might know her, per se, but he knew humanity. Listening to their gut usually served you in the long run. So he turned, nodding a farewell as he went, taking the road that led away from where they really needed to go and towards Hatter's home again. As soon as they were out of earshot he turned to Phallon, eyebrows raised. "What was that?"

"Of course, have a good day," the man called after them. He watched them leave before returning to his house.
Phallon walked down the road with Eamon, resisting the urge to look back to see if the man was still there. At his question, she did turn to gaze up at him. "I don't know. He just seemed too... nosy, didn't you think. After all, no one else really cared to talk with us or find out who I was. Maybe I was just being paranoid," she said. It wasn't until now that she realized that maybe she had over reacted. After all, the man hadn't done anything wrong. "Sorry if I ruined the conversation for you."

"Maybe," Eamon agreed, though he didn't sound so sure. He had faith in human instinct, especially when it came to outsiders, but at the same time, he really didn't know if Phallon had any reason to be so uncomfortable. "But don't worry about it. We needed to get going anyway, you just hurried us along. Even if he wasn't doing anything wrong, we shouldn't have stayed for very long anyway."

"That one," Eamon said, pointing a finger over his shoulder. "But we're committed to going this way, so I guess we're going around." Even if he wasn't sure that the man had bad intentions, it would look weird if they turned back the way they'd come before they should have been able to even get to their destination. "It'll add like three minutes to the trip, it's not a big deal," he added, taking a turn at the split in the road where they could have turned down to head back to Hatter's.

Eamon, noting the way she was looking at the scenery, gave a faint smile. "Do you want a tour?" he asked, only half joking. He didn't know a lot about much, but he did know Wonderland like the back of his hand. Only natural, he supposed, after spending so much time in it. He wasn't sure if his knowledge extended to how to give a tour, though, because those didn't really exist here. Even if most people stayed where they were, they'd all been here long enough to know the area, too. There was never a need to show people around, really.

"You don't strike me as the tour guide type," Phallon mused, smiling slightly as her eyes traveled back to the boy. They were in a hurry, somewhat, and a tour would only take more time out of their schedule. However, she was only going to be here once, she guessed. shouldn't she try to see everything she could before leaving? "So long as it's not a bother and takes us too far out of the way, I don't see why a tour would hurt. That is, if you're up to it."

"I'm not," Eamon agreed with a nod. "And don't worry, I'm not making any detours for this," he added, taking another turn to walk along the edge of the village. "We don't have time for that." Honestly, he was pretty sure that even if he did explain where they were, it would be less of a tour and more of just spouting random facts about Wonderland as a whole. They were walking along roads, after all, there was very little of interest along them. Tours were more effective in towns, and they were only stopping in one of those for now.

Eamon nodded, but he didn't say anything for a while. He needed to figure out what he was going to say first. Finally, he started talking. It was nice to go on about nothing, he thought. He didn't need to think about what he was going to say next once he'd started telling a story because he knew them all so well. He started with a folktale about the hills they were going to cross to get to the town they'd be staying in, explaining how there was supposed to be a castle built into the ground on the highest peak but that it had never been found because the hills stretched so far nobody knew which peak stood tallest. He talked about the village they'd left, about the strange argument that had birthed it. He even talked about the woods on the other side of it and how it was slowly growing back towards the village and its buildings. They weren't practised words, but he knew them by heart anyway. He'd heard them so many times. He paused to answer questions wherever they cropped up but didn't stray from whatever story he was currently telling. That would just confuse him.

Once they hit the hills, the first sign that they were nearing the mountains, Eamon shifted his focus entirely to them. He told stories that took place on them, but also explained some of the history surrounding them. There were more stories that you might have expected, mostly because of how far this stretch of land went. It wasn't just one village creating myths and legends, it was many. Finally, after wrapping up a story most famous in Wonderland for being overly exaggerated in every retelling - not that it mattered, everyone knew the original - he held out a hand. "How's about one of those fruits you picked out?" he said, glancing over at her for what felt like the first time since he'd started talking. "We're about half-way, so now might be a good time to take a break."

Eamon inspected it for a moment, then nodded. "Yeah, this is fine," he said, biting into it a moment later. It looked like an apple and tasted like an apple, too, only it was a lot softer, like a peach. He hummed, content, looking over at the bag Phallon was carrying. "Did you find anything you recognised in there?" he asked before taking another bite of his fruit. He knew there was some overlap, quite a bit in fact. It was relatively easy to find something that was the same on both sides. There were some exceptions, of course, like the very fruit Eamon held in his hand or gooseberries, which he'd never managed to find here.

Eamon gave a small smile and nodded. "Yeah, there quite a few common foods you'd recognise here. I find something new I know every time I go back to your world." He didn't remember the first time he'd arrived on Earth, nor did he know if there had even been a first time, but he was pretty sure that whenever it was, seeing something familiar would have been a great relief.

Eamon shook his head. "No, it's real I'm afraid. Sorry." He didn't know what he was apologising for, really. It sounded right to say, so he had. "I mean, think about it. If it is a dream and you know it's a dream, you should be able to wake up, right? So either you're doubting yourself, and it didn't seem like that before, or it isn't a dream and you have some things to come to terms with."

Eamon simply shrugged. "Not coming to terms with it doesn't change anything," he said. "Do whatever you want to do about it, I couldn't care less, even if that does mean denying it a while longer. You're the one who has to deal with the consequences later so..." he trailed off, flicking a hand to the side. It didn't sound like he was trying to be mean, it sounded more like genuine advice. This was the advice he gave himself in every situation. Do what you want, deal with the consequences later. It made life a little more entertaining, he thought.

Eamon just shrugged, but the fact that she didn't sound too upset was enough for him to crack a smile. He wouldn't have been surprised if she'd taken it the wrong way, not that he'd have stepped down if she made it known that she had.

Joachim nodded slowly. "Ask specific questions, that's most likely to get you answers. And don't get offended if he doesn't believe whatever you have to say. He doesn't believe anyone, ever. He'll probably ignore me and focus on you, you'll be far more interesting to him than I so you'll have to guide the conversation. Try not to mention that, I promise he's just curious." As he went, he ticked the points off on his fingers. He was silent for a while, then hurriedly added, "oh, and don't eat any of the food he gives you. Don't drink anything, either."
