Yeah, I noticed that too while reading it. Despite the book being riddled with mistakes, if anything it did a pretty good job showing us just how ShadowClan works and how their culture is- in their best times and in their worst times. For me, the biggest surprise was how ruthless they really were- even when they werent under a bad leader. Raggedstar slaughtering his kittypet father in the middle of camp and no one batting an eyelid or verbally disapproving of him is literal proof. Sure, it was Raggedstar, who had his own problems, but how the clan reacted was shocking to say the least.
What stuck out to me the most was how ShadowClan treated each other. While for the most part they respected and even cared about each other, harsh or even insulting worlds flying around were not hard to come by- and after a while I could tell Yellowfang had just gotten used to it and never held a grudge for long- cause that's just ShadowClan culture. Someone yells at you? Either deal with it and ignore them or be nasty back- and then he on with patrols. Bullies were never dealt with by anyone.
I think that that's the main reason why Yellowfang was often so blinded by Raggedstar's abuse. Nearly half the clan or more had been abusive to her in some manner shape or form, and she probably just assumed that was normal clan behavior most of the time. And considering Foxheart had been pretty terrible to her most of her life, Raggedstar must have obviously seemed amazing compared to her.
What really speaks volumes about "ShadowClan's culture", is when Yellowfang tells Firestar that she missed "how ShadowClan used to be", and how Raggedstar was a powerful leader that, you guessed it, "made the clans fear us". It's the same story over and over again. ShadowClan start wanting the clans to be afraid of them- get a terrible leader- the clan is ruined and vows to not have a leader like that again, but then the next generations never learn that lesson and eventually want power and get another terrible leader. And I doubt ShadowClan will ever end that cycle unless they efficiently teach their youth better principles. The young can't change the past if their elders won't acknowledge how terrible the past was.

Im kind of confused is this a Yellowfang rant or Shadowclan post ? Still thought Shadowclan is very un-going with other clans. They are very baised of their culture and are very protective of themselves. They have a tough exterior that isn't broken easily.
It actually annoys me sometimes how much Shadowclan is not willing to cooperate with anyone because they think theyre ' too good '. Shadowclan is a clan of dark hearts , cold minds and strong personality.
I get that but they always search for power and defaince no matter the circumstances. Which has just become a small charecter trait.

I've always found ShadowClan culture to be the most interesting because of their resilience. They produce so many interesting characters, be most of the time in these times of crisis the silent majority comes to ThunderClan for help of some sort, which means we get to see more of them. I don't really see any problem with the idea of the other Clans fearing ShadowClan to some degree. If no one fears them, they'd get taken advantage of.

I suppose it depends on the time period. During Brokenstar's reign, there were a lot of cats that were against him, but were too afraid to say anything, but more cats supported Tigerstar than not, possibly because he was a leader for such a short time. Fear, although it shouldn't be necessary, usually is, especially in a society where it is commonplace to take someone's land or food through dueling like the warriors universe.

Omg at first I was so confused and thought you were referring to the lack of direction as her character arc/etc. but then after I read the thread like twice, I realized you literally meant her lack of direction. i thought it was funny (8
