(I got distracted watching My 600 Pound Life, sorry.)
Vervainkit watched as his sister received her apprentice name, her eyes glowing like newly minted coins. He cheered her name as loud as his little voice could handle, before it was his turn to step up to Pinestar.
He quivered a bit in fear, never before having been this close to the leader tom. He tried to mask the anxiety in his eyes, as Pinestar named Featherdawn his mentor. Afterwards, as his name was called to the skies, he let his shoulders sag in relief; it was over. For now, at least.
Last was Quailkit, who was apprenticed to Darkheart, which wasn't a surprise seeing as the little molly had her head in the medicine den since she could walk. Vervainkit didn't notice as Pinestar's voice shook, too wrapped up in his own worries to pay attention. He looked at his siblings and family with pride, unaware that everyone's attention was turning to the elderly leader tom.

"Good," Cedarstripe lied. "I haven't done much, just a border patrol." Despite the fact he felt he needed to keep the truth from her, he still appreciated her kindness, and a genuine smile crept onto his face. "Oh, ok then, cool" She gave a smile also while her glossy fur shone in the sun. " I will go get some more food for the fresh kill pile"she started to giggle. "See you later, bye" She started to lightly pace down the field. |

"I'm sure..." Pinestar trailed off, a coughing fit taking him over. "I'm sure you will all be..." Cough. "Be great.. great..." Cough. "You'll be great apprentices." More coughs. "MintClan needs cats like...." This final coughing fit wouldn't let up.

Lightingpaw blinked tilting her head to the side. She respected Pinestar and all but he looked like he was going to keel over and die any minute now.

Darkheart padded forward to touch noses with his new apprentice, a happy gleam in his eye. Blackdawn watched her brother proudly. Her head snapped back to Pinestar when he began coughing. Her green eyes clouded with dread. Darkheart jerked his head up and ran to his den quickly hoping to find something that would help the leader.

Lightingpaw wondered if she should give a little tour to the new apprentices. She figured she might as well since she would be a warrior soon enough. Which reminded her that she needed to get ready for her assessment. Not that she was worried or anything but she ought to be ready for anything.

The large tom happily looked at his new apprentice and touched noses with her. His heart swelled with pride as he wrapped his tail around his paws, " Congratulations Blossomki- I mean Blossompaw" He spoke quickly correcting his mistake. Boulderstrike had never mentored before, but surely with the knowledge he acquired through his years of being a warrior he was sure that by the time Blossompaw was about to become a warrior she would more than ready.
Tidepaw purred happily as she watched the new apprentices unite with their mentors. Her amber gaze flicked back up to Lonestar as his fit of coughs continued, 'Oh my..' She thought to herself a feeling of unease pooling in her belly.

Blossompaw beamed up at her mentor, thrilled to have gotten a tough warrior as her mentor. After all, to become the best, it helped to learn from the best. "Thanks, Boulderstrike," she mewed brightly. "I won't let you down." She was more than willing to put in the extra effort. As much as people tried to shield things from her, she knew the Clan had their problems. Watching Pinestar stumble back into his den, coughing feverishly, was enough of a hint that times were tough. She wanted to prove that she didn't need to be coddled, and she wanted to make MintClan strong, like in the stories Mosspelt always told.

Boulderstrike carefully watched as Lonestar hobbled back to his den, hoping that his fit of coughing would die down later. Drawing his attention back to the situation at hand he rose to his paws and grinned, "Well Blossompaw I assume you would like to celebrate with your kin in such a happy time" the tom meowed, "Or.. Perhaps you would like to train right off the bat?" He added with a small smile.

Blossompaw glanced at her father, who was lost in thought worrying about their leader. She turned back to Boulderstrike. "Training, definitely," she responded without hesitation. She was itching to see the outside of the camp, and to finally make a difference. But most of all she was dying to learn. Then maybe her parents would start to treat her more as an equal.
